AMC Theatres racial discrimination, social structure profiling, bad managment

my wife, 9 month old child and I entered the empty movie theater and sat in a secluded corner at 12pm to watch a movie before we ate. we wanted to beat the friday night crowd to watch new movies and did not want to bother anyone with our baby. only 4 couples came into the gigantic theater in downtown disney and out of all the open great middle seats for people a young couple comes and sits in front of us even though they saw we had a child with us. throughout the wait for the trailers to come on the couple was fine with my baby laughing while they were foundling and making out with each other. once the movie came on though, my baby made 4 suddle cries and the scrawny geeky guy tried acting tough in front of his girlfriend and rudely threatened us with, " shut your ###ing baby up and move or else", so i didn't hesitate to tell the guy that he can move and we are not moving for him, while my wife got up and walked out from being scared that the guy was going to attack her and the baby. after i yelled at the guy he ran to speak with the manager where my wife was going to and the whole time he was verbally attacking her saying that we didnt belong there and that we are stupid for bring a baby to the movie theater. once they got to the manager, my wife told the guy off and they both told their stories of what happened and the damn manager racially profiled my wife for being a mexican, socially profilling her as being a gangster or something and then after i arrive and say im an off duty police officer, she says she doenst want trouble and that she will call the cops and is asking us to leave with out a refund for telling the guy off and finally discriminating against families with babies by stating, " that we are not a family oriented business, we do not allow babies in the theaters and they are not welcomed, there is even a trailer saying to leave babies at home." after that i made the manager give me a refund, but i will never go to another AMC... so watch out for those fcuking racist, discriminating and profiling " professional business managers for that company...

This happened to us tonight. We took our kids to watch a KUNG FU PANDA II and were asked to leave because my 2 year old got excited and said "OH COOL!" AMC is NOT family friendly! My family and I will never go there again either!

AMC Theatres concession prices

I am a regular movie goer but will probably shop more. Recently my wife and I went to the local AMC Theater to see a movie. To our surprise, the cost of concessions has gone up again. That has occurred every two to three months for the last five years. For instance, five years ago the purchase of two small popcorns and two small Diet Cokes was $7 which was about $4 more than outside the theater and quite rediculous. Now those same two small popcorns and two small Diet Cokes cost $17 which is $14 more than outside theater prices which is totally unacceptable. We can go to a fairly good restaurant and have a meal for that price.

That's on top of the $10 each ticket price. For two people the total bill that night was $37 which is not anywhere close to competitive in the movie marketplace for this area and not competitive with other entertainments available. As a result we will not be attending AMC Theaters any longer and encourage other AMC customers to complain through this forum. AMC does not have a complaint or customer interface on their web site.

Jeff and all,

As Minnie06 stated, much of AMC's profit comes from the Concession stand. The economy has slowed and AMC is truly empathetic. We offer discounted box office prices before noon, senior discounts and student discounts in some locations, and limited time concession offers that can be found at http://www.amctheatres.com/Programs_and_Offers/Programs/Limited_Time_Offer/

New, expensive technologies in our field continue to grow, and in order to be the best at what we do, and offer the best possible film experience, AMC has made a commitment to invest in these technologies.

That said, AMC does appreciate the feedback. I truly hope you choose not to boycott AMC locations, so that we can continue to provide the best film experience in the industry
.. Thank you all.

AMC should be boycotted. The price of movies are over priced and the concession prices are beyond understandable. My wife and I used to go to the movies weekly. Yesterday we went and we were the only people in a just release movies. The lobby itself was basically empty and the parking lot was less than one fouth filled.

I now know that AMC stands for almighty money counts.
Boycott AMC and smile... they deserve empty seats.

Movie theaters charge so much for concessions because they make no money from ticket sales, it goes to the production companies. They need to make money somehow to pay for the electricity, projectors, seats, not to mention pay their employees. Eating at the concessions is not a mandatory prerequisite to see the movies, if the prices are to high then don't buy. They do have something called a kids pack that comes with a kids popcorn (pretty decent size for an adult too), a kids soda (looks like an actual small since their small looks like a medium or something), and a bag of candy all for $6.

Check again. In Springfield IL theaters, it was over $18 for a large popcorn and a drink. And their new twist, you can only get free refills on the large size!

The have bought out all Kerasotes theaters in this area, so there is no competition. But as I read in previous postings, the theaters are relatively empty. How can they continue to operate like this. I suppose on their movie production corp., but this is ridiculous. No movie is worth $38 for 2 people. I will wait until they come out on DVD.

Bought a large pocorn and refillable coke for $13 and $19 for 2 tickets =$32. thought for that price we'd see a second movie since the theatre was virtually empty. The girl asked for our ticket and said we could stay but we'd have to buy another ticket. The theatre was empty, I could see if there were even 1/2 full but come on. No more AMC for me, i'll give my money to other theatres

They sell quite possibly some of the cheapest made foods (pop, popcorn) at absolutely ridiculous prices. It makes me so angry that these companies do this out of greed. How much can two large pops and a large popcorn actually cost to produce? like a quarter? I mean I understand that they have to cover their overhead costs because that is just basic business but for that steep of a markup is, as far as I'm concerned, price gouging and should not be tolerated by anyone.

I agree. AMC is way beyond overpriced. How can you expect to charge so much for a bag of popcorn and some stale nachos?

AMC Theatres guest relations

On Wednesday 7/23/08,   at 7:10 p.m. I purchased a ticket for the 7:30 p.m. showing of the Dark Knight at the AMC Southfield Theatre.  Midway through the movie the alarm system sounded and patrons were informed to evacuate the building via the nearest exit.  The world conditions are very serious and dangerous and I did not stand around with the crowd to become a victim of some terrorist action.   I returned to the AMC Southfield, Mi. Theatre at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Thursday August 7, 2008, and went directly to the theatre service desk.  I spoke with two people at the service desk.  One was a white male name Dan and a white female, who did most of the talking.  I asked for her name and she stated "I don't have to give that information".  I explained to them that I was one of the moviegoers that evacuated the theatre on 7/23/08.  I requested a guest pass for the Dark Knight.  There were fewer than one hundred vehicles in the theatre parking lot.The female manager/superviosr told me that they would only honor tickets that were redeemed within two week of 7/23/08.  I told them that I was not aware of the time frame in which a ticket had to be redeemed.  I could not understand why my request could not be honored as the Dark Knight was still showing.  The supervisor/manager Dan said that I could have obtained my ticket by devious means.  They both refused to honor my request for a guest pass to an almost empty theatre.  I was insulted by their refusal and insults.  To make matters worse on Monday August 11, 2008, I contacted AMC Guest Service Corporate Hotline and made a verbal complaint.   The service representative took my complaint and advised me that someone from management would contact me.  That contact never happened.  On Monday August 18, 2008, I called the corporate gusest service again to inquire as to why no one made contact with me and was advised that someone from management would contact me.  As of August 23, 2008, no one from AMC Theatre has contacted me to resolve my concerns.
It appears that the only way I'll see the Dark Knight is to go to another theatre.  I doubt that I'll ever patronize AMC Theatres in the future.
I will follow up with a letter to the AMC Corporate Office.

Wow, you suck. Of course everybody blew you off, you waited too long. From what you said you didn't even offer a ticket stub as proof, just verbal. AMC has gladly given me a refund on my ticket in the past just because the remaining seats were terrible and I went immediatly for the refund. And come freakin on, terrorist attack. Terrorists have better things to do than attack a theater. Osama is not out to take you out while watching a movie. Atlanta is an airport hub, only feel anxious at the airport. Oh and fire alarms are post fact, if terrorist action goes down, you aren't going to become a victim, you are a victim before its gone off. Sounds you're the type that would be part of the stampeding mob that would crush people to death aren't you

The women's bathrooms were TOTALLY unacceptable. Stopped up toilets, multiple out of order stalls, no paper in over half of working stalls, not one clean toilet in the entire place. Sink area dirty as well, trash everywhere as well as overflowing from trash cans and at least one sink not working either. Best- very first stall one would use when you come...

With Gas in California at 4.50/gallon, why wouldn't the theater allow people--whatever their age to bring skateboards into the theater? (My son is allowed into our Catholic Church with his skateboard.) Why don't they provide a parking location for them as they do bicycles? As a parent of a responsible sixteen year old, whose transportation is a skateboard...

On Sunday, July 20, 2008 at approximately 12:30 pm, my wife and I purchased tickets to see the 2:45 pm viewing of "The Dark Knight". We have decided to wait upstairs in front of the auditorium it was playing in and sat down. There was no ushers present at all and people came and left the auditorium as they pleased. We didn't pay any mind to it because in...

I was an employee for AMC for over 6 years. I've seen so much during that time, I'm wondering where to start. But here goes... I'll start with health code violations. During the beginning of my employment there, I worked as a concessioner. While there, I witnessed the procedure for making hot dogs was, well, substandard. Although the first hot dogs of the...
