We purchased a German Shepherd puppy from this breeder in June, 2015. Our puppy, who is a member of our family and we love completely, has been diagnosed with perianal fistulas, which is an autoimmune hereditary disease. This disease almost exclusively affects German Shepherds and will require expensive care to keep my dog healthy for the rest of his life. With steroids and a special (very expensive) diet, my dog can be a normal, happy dog. When I contacted the breeder to see if this disease was something covered under their health guarantee, he told me it was, so I'm more than welcome to give him back my dog to be destroyed and he'll give me a new puppy. I asked for a refund, minus any expenses they paid (shots, CKC registration, etc) and was informed they only destroy and replace dogs, never give cash refunds. I told him that was very unethical and he called me a scam artist. I have bred dogs before and have never hesitated to give my customers a full refund if their dog had hereditary health issues. Destroying and replacing dogs because they're not perfect is completely unethical and heartless and I sincerely hope this post will prevent other people from buying from this breeder. I can only blame myself for not reviewing their health guarantee policy before purchasing from them but I definitely won't make that mistake again.

As an honest review from a customer of Ultimate Shepard Ent. I would like to say It’s been a pleasure working with these folks. Everything up until receiving our dog they’ve been extremely kind sending us updates and being able to visit our pup. Although i don’t know the full circumstances of others who have posted in here GSDs do require attention and lots of positive reinforcement, working and training. It’s not a part time thing owning a GSD it’s a full time thing and I’ve provided my Shepard I recently purchased with activities spaced out throughout the week that will fulfill his working drive. He has an amazing balanced raw diet that includes multiple different proteins. He’s a smart, healthy pup and a great addition to my family.

I have my boy from Alpha pack the previous name, I have read every review before posting. These dogs are working dogs to the absolute bone . These dogs are meant for firm strong individuals many of these comments I can tell they wanted a show line class of German shepherd etc.

my boy taz . his grandpa was a Edmonton police dog , is a beautiful soul . he will protect his pack no matter what but if you know what you are doing and direct these dogs energy positively socialize etc, then you have a priceless dog for life . my final statements are this , to anyone saying poor comments towards these dogs shame on you . you didn't research what a real German shepherd and the work involved is. these dogs are no joke but structure love and commitment to their advancement in training will give you a dog like no other , my boy taz is trained in scent detection, building clearing wouldn't allow any threat with in a hundred yards of his pack . do research before you buy dogs, people especially before you talk poorly about hyper activity and going after peopl etc , that is poor socialization and exposure .

and all the idiots talking about your dog chasing the tail , this is literally a google search away, they are under stimulated if they are nibbling on tails or legs or have a allergic problem with their food . if your dog got docked a tail because you got a working line dog meant for protecting and serving a purpose , then you put in a [censored] effort and then the dog pays for it . its pathetic . in 2023 this info is so readily available and these dogs pay the price of your incompetency

We have a dog personally from the new name ultimate shepherds limited. He’s born november 28/21, gorgeous sable colour, my only complaint as a male german shepherd i would have expected slightly larger but i also didn’t neuter yet not for breeding plans but there is tons of studies out now about neutering early and negative joint effects. And those studies also point out to early neutering causes dogs to grow larger so i don’t know how much that may have played to affect. And also i will sau im not trying to descredit the bad reviews as reading them and owning one of their dogs does bring me concern, i can just only speak on my personal experience and Jasper has been wonderful

I have no idea what the full story with everybody in this thread and their dogs -- so much depends on how the dogs are handled, and maybe some of these dogs are genetically messed up. I don't know.

I'm just saying my experience with my dog. We purchased her from the breeder near Barrhead, AB. Our dog has very high drive, as advertised. She has been reactive to other dogs and cats, as is common in high-drive working GSD's. But other than those natural behaviours, our dog is confident, relaxed, obedient, and basically fantastic and ideal. I have also managed to curb her reactivity and help her respond to situations in a balanced way. It is typical for high-drive working dogs to be dominant, energetic and require intensive and focused handling.

We also by chance met one of the siblings of our dog by chance. This dog was also very healthy, happy and balanced, and actually was less intense than our dog. So that's my experience.

I’m deeply saddened to read these reviews. I came on here looking to see if I was going crazy and looks like it is a breeder issue. We bought our dog from them in aug 2020 - he is soooo absolutely gorgeous and agile - truly athletic. He is a goofball and so wonderful with the kids. He is also extremely aggressive with other dogs and goes for the juggular almost immediately. We are very cautious around others for this reason and while we have done extensive training with him, he is still quite aggressive on walks. He does the tail spinning as well, and has recently become so anxious that he cowers from me when I go give him food and pees all over the place out of fear. This recent anxiety with me just started, but it is definitely concerning bc today he showed his teeth to me, and then ran away. He is extremely loved and cared for. Extremely. He is the best dog but this is very weird. Mental illness.

When you don’t like your kid any more you just take them back to the hospital and get a new one? You shouldn’t even own a dog if that’s how you deal with it.

We have the exact problems with the spinning and tail mutilation. It’s been 4 expensive and heart breaking years. The breeder offered us a new dog. But after reading and hearing of SEVERAL others that have purchased from this breeder .. and all the similar problems they’re having... I do not doubt this is a breeder issue. We even flew our dog back to him from BC... and after 3 weeks of trying to “work with him” he called it a neurological issue and suggested we euthanize. We instead flew him back home to us and he never once followed up. Big Graze F from us too. Please do not buy from Alphapack

Hey furmama, I kinda figured there would be some other people with similar problems. I'm hoping to bounce some ideas off of you.

We are considering docking indys tail, as it is always bleeding, infected and wet. It becomes a real problem in winter as it freezes in the cold. What worries me is thqt he uses his tail as a safety blanket, and I feel like he might go crazy with out it. Have you thought about doing this?

What steps do you take to calm your dog down?

For indy, lots of exercise and a daily dose of fluoxetine do a decent job for the most part. There are still days where he spins and bites his tail really bad. We give him trazadone for those days.

The dog aggression has become a real problem for us. Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.

We should almost start a Facebook group to get the word out, as the breeder deletes negative comments on his page.

My heart BREAKS for you. We got our pup when my oldest was 18 months so they can grow up together. It was ok for the first almost-year but we were first time dog owners and didn’t know how to recognize his anxiety when it first started around 6 months. But we consulted with so many people and vets and tried all kinds of things for the last 3 years!

We docked our dogs tail in January. He still spins when he’s in a new place or if anyone new approaches him. He just can’t catch his tail now. We started him on CBD which keeps him more relaxed at home but we cannot get him to a vet without fully drugging him. And all groomers have quit on us... even fully drugged ...
he goes for his (non-existing) tail.

This week out of no where he started scratching his neck. He’s scratched it RAW. We started a bunch of expensive antibiotics and anti itch to help him... but between that or licking his paws now non-stop... it’s just not fair to him. So we’ve decided to help him cross the rainbow bridge soon. We literally tried everything under the sun. The one thing we’ve always loved about him.. is how he loves our kids and he has 0% aggression. I’m NOT suggested you euthanize. Cuz all avenues can definitely be tried if you’re willing!

The breeder started sending me pictures of his “happy and healthy” dogs and siblings of our dog when I told him what’s going on... but that could easily be google images or other random dogs ... how would I know. He claims this is the first dog he’s had issues with. Such a lie.

We would love to connect with you. Find me on Facebook! Davina sangha-jamal
Lots to discuss But let me know if you don’t have fb. (We were hoping you would write back).

P.s. the issue here for all readers: it’s not about replacing the dog or getting a refund. It’s awful to intentionally breed a creature with major defects ...that you love, only to see it suffer.

I had bought a German shepherd in 2018 from this breeder (Alphapack K9 in Barrhead). He is an all black German shepherd. 2 months in he started spinning and biting his tail non stop. This would go on for 22 hours a day. Our dog has since been on fluoxetine and trazadone to help with this condition. It is an extremely pricy medication to keep our dog on, but it is the only thing that works.

We had brought this issue up to the breeder by facebook / phone. He would delete all our comments off his facebook page and take a long time to respond by phone. I am confident he was trying to hide the issue, as he did not want to deter new potential buyers. He also refused to let us talk to other buyers from the same litter. We were just trying to look for help and advice. The breeder refused a refund, stating he will give us a new dog and put our current dog down. We did not find this acceptable, so we ended up keeping the dog with anxiety problems. However, the breeder did give us a second dog at no cost.

The second dog we received from this breeder developed severe aggression towards other dogs. It has become unmanageable. We are at a loss as to where to go from here. We have tried everything. There is a 3rd dog on our property that has been bitten multiple times by the two dogs from Alphapack K9). We have gone to multiple vets, trainers, and behavioralist. Seperation anxiety is a huge problem between the two dogs. On a postive note, the two dogs we recieved from Alphapack K9 get along very well.

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS BREEDER. These dogs have become unaffordable, as the cost of; medication, training, vet bills, and items destroyed has gone through the roof. If anyone that has bought from this breeder has more input, please post on this site. I will keep an eye out for new posts.

We have purchased and referred many clients to alpha pack. Their dogs have been confident and easily trainable. If the breeder has provided you with a second dog from a totally different blood line and you are having major behaviour problems, it may not be a breeder issue as much as a handler issue. German shepherds require an experienced owner and lots of stimulation and supervision.

Fake news. Wouldn't be surprised if you're the breeder himself...

I'm wondering how many people really have issues with this breeder, as he deletes negative comments from his social media 🤔

Yes this definitely sounds like it’s posted by the breeder. Very very familiar tone and statements...

We purchased our pup three years ago. She was beautiful and good to us but excessively aggressive. Attacked numerous people, sending two to hospital with serious injuries. We paid a fortune for trainers etc to help. Sadly had to rehome as one more attack and she would be euthanised. She went to out trainer who still has issues. Contacted breeder and received absolutely no response whatsoever

Joanna,

I am sorry to hear this. A dog becomes a part of your family and it is extremely hard to make that decision. We are still holding on to our dogs and trying every thing in our power to make it work

There are more and more victims coming forward. I had talked to the breeder today he had blocked me and called me crazy for telling my story on this forum. I believe we need to get our stories told, and hopefully the trolls of the internet will understand we have done everything possible to give these troubled dogs a good life.

Thank you for updating that. I see on that fb page a post the breeder made about “a lady” looking for reviews of the business but breeder claims he doesn’t know how to do that. I hope said lady finds this page. “Ultimate shepherd enterprise” to try and lose the negative reviews from his former business name.

I was the one that submitted this complaint. This website won't let me remove it so I would like to say that after many discussions, the breeder has agreed to amend his policy so that dogs that have illnesses that are not fatal can stay with their owner and the owner will just get a refund. It's a much more ethical policy and I'm glad they agreed to change it.
