Airtel CallHome / atrocious customer service or a scam?

I signed up for Airtel Call home lured by their offer of 7.9c a min with double the talk time for the signup and the first recharge till Jan 31. making it an effective rate of ~4c a min to call India from the US.

Alas, I should have believed in the adage 'If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is'. My credit card has been charged (the website is funky or maybe even clever: it gave errors when i signed up in terms of providing proof of signup, but evidently functioned well when it came to charging my credit card!!) and neither has my phone number been registered nor have I received any email acknowledging the signup. The only proof of my signing up is the charge on my credit card which was very prompt.

To add insult to injury, neither do they respond to email nor is their "24x7 Customer Care No. " [protected] working. Considering that they are a telecom company, the irony cannot be lost! Wondering if this is genuinely by Bharti which is a reputed telecom player in India or a scam perpetrated on us by someone!

    The site is very slow. Call center is not accessible. But the voice is great. I had to wait for the account details to reach me but the as the saying goes all is well ends well. Good competition to Reliance. We benefit anyway!!!

    I got the airtel calling card and it doesn't work.
    the site asks me for user id which i haven't created while registering..so where do i get a user id from
    i was charged on my credit card..
    their customer service doesn't work..nor their feedback window works..
    no reply yet from them..
    Hope its not a case of cheating and its just that they were not able to handle all the traffic..

    I have a similar bad experience with the Toll-free number and the customer care number. The sight is as good as dead . The response to Web complaint is nothing short of a gimmick.     Airtel CallHome is a real fraud. They are fooling customers by offering lucrative offers. Neither the Access Number nor the HelpLine number works. There is no response to customer care emails.
    Beware of this Bharti Airtel fraud.

    I was wary and more wary, but I decided to take a chance and put $25 into Airtel yesterday. Today I called and had a balance of $50, and two calls I made went through fine and clear. Its working!

    Airtel took $25 promptly and no activation despite 3 calls to them. airtel is bogus service. keep your money

    somebody called from airtel and requested me to register in airtel to call india.i did so.for the last two weeks i am trying to call i couldnt, i am complaining but no use, i couldnt login to my account.it is too bad.i will never use airtel in future or recomment nobody to use it.i am using reliance for the last two years, till now not even a little problem.

    Same is the case with Airtel Digital TV . Initially they call to customer to take the consent of the consumer in unlawful manner and then they try to present there new package.
    I was availing Airtel's Economy Package of 185/- plus taxes (Total 204/-)
    till 13 april 2010 . I received a call from there customer care that if you
    recharge our digital tv with Rs629/- for three month I will get some more
    channel in addition to my previous channels. No channel will be deleted.
    I made a fund transfer of Rs650/- to avail the offer. After sometime when
    I started my tv I come to know that my 6 to 10 favourate channels were not available. I again contacted helpline they asked me to make a top up for the same. what a fraud company!!

    I have taken 9996924470 from airtel 2 months back. Till that they have not activated the number even after submitting all the documents. lousy company lousy standards. no body should subscribe to its services.

    I have taken 9996924470 from airtel 2 months back. Till date they have not activated the number even after submitting all the documents at Kanhaiya chowk airtel office. The office maintains they have sent the documents to their central office, the central office says they have not received the docs. Very poor customer care, no body should subscribe to airtel services.

    A complaint with Airtel is pending since 19th July 2012 vide REF NO. 38553556 DATED 19TH JULY 2011‏ (no network coverage at home in Gurgaon).

    Shockingly despite more than 100 mails in last 13 months, Airtel has been ignoring my requests and have not made any efforts to resolve my problem because it costs them. However, they have been charging me monthly rental for my 7 mobile numbers.

    Their Customer Service, Nodal Office & Appleate officers are pathetic.

    Now have written to Manoj Kohli (manoj.kohli@bharti.com)‏ for help.

    I guest going to Consumer Court is best option now.

    One day a Sales man of Airtel walks upto me and says that "Do you have a Pan card number starting with Letter A" I replied yes and than he sells me a Postpaid plan of Airtel 249 monthly rental which he says its an Government plan for specific customers. In that plan he says the following call charges - 1000 Local Mins. free + 250 sms free+ 200 mb GPRS free+ Mumbai/Maharashtra/Goa/Gujurat roaming free. He also says that whenever i am in Gujurat or any of the above mentioned place, i call in Mumbai for free (i.e. my call charges would be deducted from the 1000 local mins. i have) Airtel to Airtel = free and Airtel to Other = 10p. He also told me that my bill amount would not exceed 249 rs. a month. HAHAHHAHA thats a joke because i have all the time my bill has exceeded 300. In 1st 8 days bill is generated of rs. 131.62 than 2nd bill is generated of Rs. 292.71. All this i paid in 1 month. than next bill comes of 315.52. i call up that person - he does'nt pick up. than all my bills are of 340 & 392 and what not. My mother is 57 years old where she uses this phone. I am absolutely sure she doesnt call more than 1000 mins a month. So there is no way my call charges should exceed. The funniest part is the customer service representative says that she has called Internationally... hahahahh an today There is this Number 8769665502 saying that he is an Advocate calling from Delhi to file a Legal complain for this. Let me tell you if I dont get any reply from you guys as soon as possible I will file a complain in Consumer Court. Please take necessary actions today.

    Below was my last communication on 7th November 2012 for which I have not received any reply yet. Today I have been receiving call from a number 8769665501, Ravi Sharma, introduced as an advocate from Delhi telling me on FIR and all legal proceedings if I dont make payment today itself.

    I have written numerous mails on the subject and explained to many people from your esteemed organisation.Please go through the below and confirm.
    1. I have not received either hard copy of invoice or soft copy through mail
    2. I have been told about 2, 900/- outstanding by people from your office
    3. I have also understood that the outstanding amount is high because of usage of GPRS (data usage)
    4. I had activated the number on 11th September and used till 11th October
    5. During 1st week of use I received messages from your office about limit over run
    6. Enquiring I understood that activation of GPRS was not having any pack attached
    7. I had requested to activate 99/-2GB pack from the date of activation of number i.e. 11th September
    8. But GPRS pack was activated on 25th September instead of 11th September in spite of my repeated request
    9. Invoice amount is high because of GPRS usage between 11th September and 25th September

    Please note, my account is part of xxxxxxxx corporate plan. I am very much need and dependent on this number. But I am not been able to use the same because of discrepancy.

    People from your office have been saying that I should not have used GPRS from day one. But I was unaware that pack was not attached from day one. On the other hand I had never asked for activating GPRS. Then GPRS should not have been activated from day one without my concern. I use a smart phone with Android OS which uses GPRS automatically.

    At end I request you once again to prepone GPRS pack activation date to 11th September and regenerate the invoice and send the same across to me for payment. I assure you that I will make payment immediately after receiving the amended invoice.

    I also got a call from the number 8769665502 and he said that he is some police station, for some pending bill of 2011 for tikona vendor. And that a case has been registered against for 35K fine. When i shouted on him he started fighting and disconnected i think these are hoax calls to make money out people who have defaulted on some bills or something like that. Please don't respond to such calls and complain about them.
