UCT Alliance Limited broadband

Avoid using Adept telecom like the plague!

These guys are just dreadful. Arrogant and rude 'customer service', poor quality broadband, hap-hazzard billing, excessive charges - just awful.

My neighbors pay a tiny fraction of the amount Adept telecom charge me, and they see speeds in excess of 10 times greater with no spurious 'excessive use' charges... I really do feel like I have bee robbed by them.

UCT Alliance Limited Wholly unacceptable

I originally signed a contract with Fizz Telecom who were later bought our by Adept. At no time have I signed a contractfor my home telephone line rental with Adept.

I needed a phone and broadband packagae which Adept could not offer, so terminated my agreement with them to go to another supplier who could offer me the product I needed.

I asked Adept if they had a similar product and they said they did not, which left me with no alternative but to change.

I received a letter from Adept with a bill for £130 plus vat terminbation fees, with a red 'threat'of county court judgemernt if I didn't pay withing 7 days.

When I queried the fee with Adept, aying I had never signed a contract with them, that I thought the fee was excessive ( I offered to pay a fee, just not that high), and that the threat of a CCJ was offensive and the tone potentially frightening to people, they were extremely unhelpful and basically said rules are rules and that I would need to pay.

I have paid as I do not wish a CCJ especially at this time of a credit crunch, I would not want this to show on my credit files.

I think the fee is excessive and the company simply levy this to tie people in to them when they dpon't even offer a like for like product to their competitors - wholly unacceptable.

As a business customer with Adept Telecom for many years, I was unfortunately in a positsion where they could not provide the type of service my business required. I therefore needed to move my telecom provider. I was advised by Adept that there was only one day per year that I could leave them without financial penalty and I needed to have given notic three months prior to this date otherwise I was locked in to them for a further year. Dispite being with Adept for more than 8 years, and dispite speaking to them mostly each week, I was unaware of this small print. I contacted Offcom they advised that this type of contract was outlawed by them at the end of 2011, but they further advised that Adept were utilising a loophole in the legislation which allowd them to continue with this practice for business customers. The cost of moving only three of my telephone lines was calculated by them to be in excess of £4000. I had about 22 lines with them.

Adept are within the legislation, but this is small print and very shapr practice by them, it should be publicised to prevent the type of losses that we are now incurring, as we are with a telecom provider who cannot provide us with coverage, for a further 10 months. THe loss to our company is in theregion of £9, 000 in standing sharges over the 10 month period.

So beware if you are a business customer moving to Adept telecom !

I also signed up with Fizz many years ago who were then bought out by Adept. I have a business line with them and was out of contract so decided to move to a cheaper company. They tried to charge me £20 for not giving 30 days notice, so I gave them 30 days notice and didn't pay. I then received my final bill which had a "LEAVERS ADMIN CHARGE" of £25. I phoned them up, asked for an explanation and was told that all customers who leave must pay this charge and that it was in their T's & C's online. I made the point that just last week EON were fined 8 million for the same con and refused to pay. I will be putting in a complaint to the telecoms ombudsman and urge everyone to do the same. It is a free service. If we don't complain to the right place they will carry on getting away with it. We need to put a stop to these big time rip off merchants.

More or less the same experience I had. The lovely Duncan Hargreaves is one of the most arrogant ****holes I have ever talked to.
On the plus side they are useless at making watertight contracts so can usually be binned (best place for them!)

this company are awful and unprofessional - my father is 90 blind and disabled and was sales pitched int o an account with Fizz - i have recently moved back home to look after him after mum passed away and have been looking at bills. The have been charging my dad £8.50 monthly for 500 free minutes - hardly FREE. they have had him on a commercial business rate and he lives in a residential semi detached property. £3.75 for paper invoice when he is blind etc etc. I spoke with Duncan Hargreaves on Monday night for an hour and all he did was blame Fizz. He put me on hold to speak to the inept Manager Nicola Jakeman and he explained that the account would be looked at and on Thursday they would give me a resolution call with a rebate for over charges and a change of charges. Safe to say i didnt receive a call. I rang and spoke with Nicola who has low level Customer Service experience. She knew nothing of the call with Duncan - she knew nothing of her companies charges or call plans and told me to look on the Internet, she opposed and rejected all the offers that Duncan had made -. I have never been so appalled by such a company - i am fuming! They have taken total advantage of my dad.

I have had TWO bad experiences with the lovely Adept telecom. They are more adept at ducking, diving, threatening, lying and blackmail than they are at providing telecoms STAY AWAY!

I work for a telecoms company, verbal contracts are recorded and are legal but should not be deleted. I spoke to a elderly lady this week who was with Adept who had been sent the same termination letter requesting a full payment of £150 . She did pay it naively although she wasn't changing provider so adept were still her paper bill provider - they still provided her phone service. Since then which was three years ago according to her they have not contacted her and have automatically renewed her contract which is illegal. It used to be legal but since a couple of recent years ago off com changed it as a lot of companies were doing it. Because she has not verbally renewed it or signed anything they cannot legally charge her a termination fee. I changed her package and put her on a much cheaper legal tariff with a different company, so if or not they will contact her to charge her I don't know. If they do I told her to drag them through court. If this happens to anyone else who hasn't renewed it themselves remember it is not a bound contract! DO NOT PAY!

I received the same £130 bill after switching to an alternative provider and it's a mystery how they manage to make a £5 per month penalty "for the remainder of your contract term" add up to the same amount for everyone. Personally I think it's nothing but a con and any court would throw it out, but they rely on the fact that most people will just pay it. Well that's what I'm going to do. After the first year I'll still be better off financially with a different provider and I'm happy that my hard-earned will no longer be going to a bunch of crooks like Adept Telecom.

Adept have done the same thing with me.
I'm not going to pay as they have said it was a "verbal contract" that is recorded and deleted in 6 months. If this is the case in the verbal contract maybe they offered a new laptop or TV that they have no record of!

I would never go with adept again and urge people to stay away.

Dude, if you don't like it, go and sign up with Pulse Telecom. For $24.95/month you can make unlimited phone calls to India, Canada and USA (land line and cellular) and also to 16 European countries. All the calls are included in this plan.
I'm with Pulse Telecom and I'm satisfied.
