Associated Community Services company closed

My sister, Kimberly Pillar, worked for this company until they closed. She cannot reach anybody in HR or anybody else to obtain a letter explaining that the company closed and she is no longer employed. She needs that information for job hunting purposes. She also has a 401(K) with the company and the provider states that they need a letter stating that they can release information or access the money in the account.

Associated Community Services unethical behavior

This lady calls me this morning asking for money telling me they are sending an envelope she was not answering my questions as I have a family member right now who stopped their chemo as it was making them too ill and not working they made the conscience decision to stop this lady did NOT give a rip she continued talking over me and I asked for information about their organization. I am going to report them to BBB and ask to be removed from their list I dont know how or who or why they called me it is absolutely appalling they are bothering me and not concerned for my family or my situation they just want my pocketbook I hope that woman sleeps well at night treating people like that way she treated me Lord knows I wouldn't. Associated Community Services Telemarketing comp.

I get calls from them sometimes twice a week and have asked them to not call me anymore but they continue to call and when I tell them that I would not donate to them they hang up the phone before I get to tell them is there anything you can do to get them to stop. I am also registered with the federal do not call list. They are very rude to people because when you start to ask them a question they hang up and they call back the next day and say that the call was dropped. Thank you Richard

Associated Community Services Foundation for American Veterans

1) Donations go to this service and are then sent to a 501c19, go ahead, ask them. Review the status if you want - it's because they can't operate as a 501c3 due to the strict regs. Check out other organizations to give money to vets - think charities for towns, issues, legislation.

DO YOU WISH TO STOP SHAM CHARITIES FROM CALLING YOUR HOME?

Take five minutes to say "we're the operating reception office for an LLC/Corporation". They can't accept these donations.

Want to make it true? Shell out the $50 or so bucks to create an SMLLC in your state. After five or so calls saying you're an LLC, no more fake donation calls.

Associated Community Services Raising Money for Vets

I was suspicious at how smooth the delivery of this message was. There was little effort to help me understand who they were and what they were doing for Vets. It was too smooth and I became suspicious. They wanted me to give my credit card information over the phone, which I never do when I am cold called. It's sad if this is not particularly a legitimate fundraiser for vets. Very frustrating to receive this kind of call and feel like I cannot trust these people.

Associated Community Services Calls for donations to Foundation for American Veterans

12/31/15 I received a phone call from "Steve" at [protected] asking me to donate to Foundation for American Veterans. When I told him I wasn't interested and to take me off their call list he said "NO". I then attempted to ask him a question and he hung up on me. Then I googled this company and learned they give only 30-40% of the money they raise to the veterans. As a veteran, I am appalled at this and will never give them any money. Doesn't sound like a "non-profit" company to me.

Associated Community Services Harrassing phone calls

I am permanently disabled, and thus do not have any extra funds with which to contribute. I have asked many times whenever they call that I do not have any monies to give them, yet they keep calling. The latest incident took place on 11/18/15. When the man called, I attempted to tell him I could not help, yet he kept pushing me and pushing me to donate. Finally I am in a full-blown anxiety attack, and he rudely hangs up the phone. I do not deserve this kind of treatment from anyone, especially over my own telephone! I have tried many times to have them remove my name from their list, but to no avail. Can you please help me?

Associated Community Services Telemarketing

Associated Community Services (ACS) is a telemarketing firm based in Southfield, Michigan which reportedly filed for bankruptcy & owes more than $15 million in unpaid taxes to the IRS and more than $1 million in unpaid state tax. ACS is owned & operated by Robert W. Burland, Jr. and Richard T. Cole. ACS has been cited by the Michigan Atty General as being in violation of numerous laws and ACS retains up to 90% of funds received for telemarketing services on behalf numerous charities, including the Foundation for American Veterans. ACS badgers it’s victims repeatedly at all hours with high pressure tactics. The owners are con artists and should be held account for their activities. I worked for Associated Community Services for 3 years. It was the worst experience of my life. First of all, ACS is basically a dope house. The managers, trainer's and CSR's buy and sell drugs on a day to day basis. The company is a joke and they only give 20% to the charity they are calling on behalf of. Associated Community Services Beware

Beware of this company -- the place is a real sweatshop
They don't tell you doing the interview -- they have two sets of policies those they tell you about and have in their company guidelines and the unwritten, unspoken real rules -- that are enforced like a slave ship. They do not want you to take breaks, lunch hour or bathroom breaks. If you do they have one of their trainers watch and monitor you. They monitor each call. When you go into the office -- it is 95% minority - substantially minority female -- if you take breaks, a lunch break or go to the bathroom -- they dock your pay and will reduce your hourly from $12 to $ 8 at their discretion. This is the most evident experience at viewing of the exploitation of minorities in a jim crow - exploitative environment I have ever witnessed. They basically exploit old people by call and badgering them to give with emotional suggestive dialog -- they treat their workers like slaves -- the managers are hostile and vile -- this is the lowest form of human exploitation - you watch a room filed with people who can't even have a cell phone on -- women with kids or elderly parents are forced to decide between keeping contact with their family in case of emergency or having their wages docked. This is like some weird cult --beware of this place -- I had a manager lock me in a room because I wouldn't sign a form -- I had to call 911 to get out of the place -- BEWARE OF THIS PLACE THEY ARE VERY UNETHICAL

I agree with you. Associated Community Services is the most unprofessional organization. They only promote minorities. They dock your pay and suspend you if you take more than 7 minutes per hour off the phones, to go to the bathroom etc. It is a hostile work environment, the mail trainers sexually harass and make sexually suggestive comments to female employees. Only 20 percent of what you donate goes to the charity, the rest goes into Dick Coles pocket, the owner. Employees are treated like slaves in a boiler room.

Associated Community Services Repeated calls to my home after being told NOT to call

I had the most unprofessional telemarketing fund raiser repeatedly ignore my questions and my requests to be removed from their call list. I explicitly told him "Do NOT call my home anymore", "Remove my telephone number from your call list". He would not acknowledge what I said and would not respond when I asked him a question. When I asked what company he was calling from he would not answer me. I then insisted that he tell me the name and the address so that I could lodge a complaint with the Attorney General's office. He finally said "hold on", threw the phone on the desk and left it there for approximately 2 minutes while he searched for the information.

I am so tired of being bothered by AC Services. During the year they have called me for a number of"fund raisers". After being bothered so many times I sent each one of them a donation. I have told them repeatedly to take my name and number off their list because I have no money and I don't want them to bother me again. Last week they called me 3 times a day. I chose not to answer. Tonight, I answered. The person who was on the other end of the line was so rude. He started talking real fast and wouldn't let me speak. When I had to try to interrupt him, he got very nasty and hung up.
How can we get these people to stop calling?

ACS direct phone number: [protected]. A live receptionist answers the phone. Tell her to take your number off their list, AND out of their auto-dialers. Following is information I found that was MOST helpful:
This is a scam tele fundraiser for it would seem multiple charities that are questionable themselves. However, in most states they MUST start their pitch by saying:
"Hello, my name is (full name of fundraiser registered with the SOS or AG) and I am a paid fundraiser with (full name of fundraising company registered with AG or SOS) and I am calling "on behalf" of (full name of charity registered with AG or SOS)

If they do not do this and they claim to be members of the group they are raising money for then they are committing fraud against the donor. It is considered in some States to be "Obtaining Money By False Pretenses" and in others it is considered "Theft By Deception" and still other States considered it to be "Larceny". But no matter what you call it it is stealing from the Donor. In some cases when they get caught they are fined as much as 40 grand per call. I read our States Charitable Solicitation's Act and it looks like very few of these companies are raising money according to the Law's of our State and I will bet that if you read your States Charitable Solicitation Act you will find the same to be true.

When they claim to be a member of the group they are raising money for, as this company is doing, it is damaging all other charities that do not use so called "Professional Fundraiser's" to raise money. They all know this but they continue to steal from "us" the donating public. Fundraiser's like this must be put out of business as they lie to the donor and they do this because some of these so called fundraisers get to keep as much as 99% of the money they collect and they use that money to call us over and over again to ask us for more money that they can use to call us over and over again. If you want to give money to charity then the best way is to hang up on the tele fundraiser committing fraud and search out the charity yourself.

This company seems to be calling for Police Fire and Veteran's groups as well as medical and children's groups. All of which are wasting the bulk of your donation on fundraising and administrative costs like salary's for the charity officials. They are the people whose information took out the United States Navy Veterans Association that stole 99.6 million in donations last year. They were also behind the demise of Civic Development Group out of NJ and the FTC's Operation False Charity in 2009 Nationwide based on their book "The Fraud Happen's In The First 8 Word's" which was sent out to all AG's and SOS's. They say they have contacts with the AG's, SOS's, DHS, FTC, DOJ, FCC and Secret Service across the Country and their tips have been used in some of the largest Charity Fraud investigation's Nationwide as well as other Countries. You can also find their book called "What The Fundraiser's Say" at a link on their site. They say they are a Church Group and they say this is the Mission of this Church to protect donations going to Police Fire Veteran Medical and Children's Charities. That book is a real eye opener made up of comments by the people calling you. After reading it, I will sure never make a donation over the phone again to any group that use so called "Professional Fundraiser's" that operate outside of the law and use illegal techniques to steal money from little sick kids or cops or firefighters or anyone else who really needs it.

Anyway, the long and short of it is, GIVE DIRECTLY AND CUT OUT MIDDLEMAN COMPANIES THAT CALL YOU!

Oh btw, THE DO NOT CALL LIST DOES APPLY to Professional Fundraiser's. Now if the charity actually picked up the phone and called then, yes, they are exempt from the DNC, but that is not what is happening here with this caller. This caller is Corporations for Character out of Murry Utah calling on behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police and the FTC just sued them for 26.4 billion dollars worth of DNC violations. That is 16 million violations at 16 thousand dollars each.

The FOP is a good group for the most part but they need to do their own fundraising instead of contracting a company like this one to raise money. So, if you want to help the cops or the FOP, dont do it over the phone and send your check right to your local lodge. They get every dollar of it that way, instead of some telemarketer taking 85% or more of every dollar.

FTC Charges Utah Operation with Deceptive and Abusive Telemarketing
Defendants Allegedly Made 16 Million Calls to Numbers on the Do Not Call Registry; Misrepresented How Funds Would Be Used
At the request of the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice today filed a complaint that charges three Utah-based firms and their owner with waging deceptive and illegal telemarketing campaigns pitching movies and soliciting for donations, including calls to more than 16 million phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry.

The FTC charged that the companies and their owner, Forrest S. Baker III, committed multiple violations of the FTC Act and the Telemarketing Sales Rule, and deceived customers about where the proceeds from their purchases and their donations would go.

According to the FTC’s complaint, Baker controls a group of Utah-based companies that produce and market films and DVDs and solicit charitable contributions from consumers nationwide, including Feature Films for Families, Inc., Corporations for Character, L.C., and Family Films of Utah.

The complaint states that in 2008 and 2009 the defendants conducted a nationwide calling campaign under the name “Kids First, ” in which they offered to send two complimentary DVDs and requested feedback on whether the movies should be included on a list of recommended movies. However, the defendants did not disclose that consumers who agreed to participate would later receive calls pitching DVDs produced by the defendants.

Moreover, the defendants’ telemarketers allegedly told consumers that “all of the proceeds of this fundraiser will help us finish up creating this recommended viewing list to help parents and grandparents, like us, with a list we can trust.” In fact, the organization responsible for the Kids First recommended viewing list, the Coalition for Quality Children’s Media, did not receive all the proceeds. The complaint alleges that the defendants received at least 93 percent of the DVD sales proceeds.

The FTC also alleges that, between 2009 and 2010, the defendants conducted fundraising campaigns for organizations with names related to fraternal orders of police (FOPs) and firefighters. The defendants receive most of the donations raised by these campaigns, and the organizations retain only 15 to 33 percent.

The Commission alleges that, in order to persuade donors to give money, the defendants made multiple false and misleading misrepresentations about the nature or purpose of the organizations for which the defendants requested donations, the way in which charitable contributions will be used, and the percentage or amount of any charitable contribution that will go to an organization. For example, the complaint alleges that the defendants falsely represented to donors that administrative costs are a “very minimal amount” and that contributions were used or would be used for safety-related officer training, bulletproof vests, or financial assistance to victims when, in fact, the organization for which the defendants were soliciting did not fund these activities, or used only an incidental amount of the contributions for such activities.

The FTC’s complaint also alleges that the defendants have repeatedly called numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry in their telemarketing campaigns. In calls made under the name Kids First, the FTC alleges, the defendants made more than five million calls to consumers whose numbers were on the Registry. The complaint further charges that, since June 2007, the defendants have made approximately nine million additional illegal telemarketing calls to phone numbers that are on the Do Not Call Registry to sell Feature Films for Families DVDs.

The FTC alleges that in another calling campaign in 2009, the defendants called consumers to urge them to buy tickets to see “The Velveteen Rabbit, ” a film produced by Baker and released in theaters before going to DVD. The FTC complaint alleges that the defendants’ telemarketers made no effort to avoid calling consumers on the Do Not Call Registry. During this two-week campaign, the defendants called more than two-and-a-half-million consumers whose numbers were on the Do Not Call Registry.

In addition, the complaint charges that the defendants violated the Telemarketing Sales Rule by:

calling consumers who have previously asked that the defendants stop calling them;
failing to provide the name of the telemarketer or seller making the call to Caller ID devices and, instead, providing names such as “CUSTOMER SVC, ” “FAMILY VALUE CB” or “VELVETEEN”;
failing to orally identify the seller, the purpose of the call, and the nature of the goods or services when making telemarketing calls; and
abandoning calls to consumers by failing to connect consumers to live representatives when they answer the phone. In many cases, such abandoned calls lead to the recipients listening to “dead air” when they answer the call.
The Commission vote referring the complaint to the Department of Justice was 5-0. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District for the Northern District of Florida. It names as defendants Feature Films for Families, Inc.; Corporations for Character, L.C.; Family Films of Utah, Inc.; and Forrest Sandusky Baker III, individually and as an owner and principal of Feature Films for Families, Inc., Corporations for Character, L.C., and Family Films of Utah, Inc.

The complaint, filed by the Department of Justice at the request of the FTC, seeks a court order to permanently bar the defendants from violating the FTC Act and the Telemarketing Sales Rule, as well as civil penalties, and disgorgement of their ill-gotten gains.

After 3 separate times - via 3 separate calls - telling ACS to take my phone number and contact information out of their system, ACS has continued to call my home, this morning at 7:46am! I have it on my caller ID. I am going to file a formal complaint now with the Attorney General's office. I have had my phone ring all day, approximately every 2 hours starting early in the morning throughout the day, into the evening. This is harassment, bordering on stalking. I am ill, insomnia being one of my medical conditions, and if I am finally blessed enough to be able to doze off, the phone rings and interrupts me with a ripoff solicitation - after which I can not get back to sleep. This intrusion from ACS is causing me unbearable stress and making me more ill, which I explained to their callers, to no avail. I encourage everyone to remember however, that is it not the callers fault. They are probably making minimum wage, younger, and fearfully following orders, happy to have a job in this economy. However, ACS, who donates only 20-30% of their donations to the causes they are calling about, must be making millions. Fight the company back, not the callers, in every way you can. Contact your Attorney General's office asap. There is power in numbers. I'm awake now - they have just awakened the sleeping giant.

I have called this number and I get a recording to leave a message, which I have done, no call backs, we keep getting the calls. We are sick and tired of these calls and want them stopped.
