AAMCO Transmissions attempted scam

Was having problems with my 2008 Chrysler 300C (transmission slippage). Took to AAMCO in Waretown. Technician took it for test drive - came back and stated I had some "serious" transmission problems and quoted a price of $895 JUST TO DISASSEMBLE the transmission to find out what the "problems" were. He even did a "computer" check (?) which told him there was a "serious" problem.

Took vehicle to dealer (since I felt it may be covered under warranty - although it was a "used" vehicle purchased within one year and with only 9K miles at time of purchase - vehicle had 51K miles at time of transmission "problem". RESULTS: It cost a total of $150 to replace a seal that had become loose - causing trasnmission fluid to leak.

THIS COULD HAVE AND SHOULD HAVE been easily diagnosed by AAMCO as a "reputable" transmission specialist.

AAMCO Transmissions extremely poor service/ rip off

Our vehicle, a 1994 BMW 740iL has been in the Renton, WA AAMCO Repair shop since Wednesday, April 29th. We brought it in due to the Trans Program light coming on and it going into Limp mode. It drove into the shop just fine, no light, no limp mode, just needing to know why it did this.

When we spoke with the service manager, Rick at Renton AAMCO, he said this is common and we see it all the time. We asked if they have experience working on BMW’s and he indicated that they had.

That afternoon, because of the diagnostic codes Rick at Renton AAMCO got from the computer, he called us to authorize a charge of $1100 (approx) to remove the transmission to further inspect it and diagnose. He indicated that it could be a worse case scenario requiring a transmission rebuild of approximately $2400. After cringing over the thought of $2400, we authorized the $1100 and hoped for the best!

Two days later, on Friday, May 1st Rick at Renton AAMCO contacted us with the news that they need to get into the Valve Body and that we need a total rebuild – at a revised new cost of Approx $3700. They will need to order the parts from BMW and it would take 3 days.

This is where the dilemma really starts. Because, your car is torn apart in the shop. What choice are you left with but to keep moving forward… How do you know that is really what is required and this is the best option? Beyond the hope and trust being laid out – is the HUGE cost.

Rick said that some electrical devises internally were fried. Before approving the next steps, we asked the usual questions… isn’t there any other option? How about sourcing parts elsewhere? Buying another rebuilt already? He said he would see what he could do to save us some money, but you will just love this car again when we are through with it. – Loving the car was never a question that he needed to address. Based on this, they are ordering the parts. We asked that they provide us all the old parts that are being replaced. This said, the car should be completed and ready for pick up on the Wednesday, May 6th.

May 6th, no call received from AAMCO. May 7th, no call received from AAMCO.

Friday morning, May 8th, I called Rick at Renton AAMCO, for the status. He said, “Oh sorry I was going to call but I was just slammed, they are working on it now. It should be ready by the end of the day today, or at the latest tomorrow. I will call you.”

Friday afternoon – COB, no call. Saturday, May 9th, again NO CALL FROM AAMCO!

Monday, May 11th, in the afternoon, I called Rick at the Renton AAMCO once again! What is up with my car? His dumbfounded reply was all I needed to realize that I can no longer trust the hands that are working on my car!

He said, “Oh sorry I didn’t call. I was out of the office on Friday”, I said, I talked to you on Friday and you said the car would be done on Friday or Saturday, He said, “was that Friday, Oh I was out on Saturday – Sorry, (sidebar comment – DUH!) I always return my calls at 4:00 p.m. and I have been slammed and got sidetracked.”

He put me on hold, checked with the technician and indicated that they were working on the car and realized that they didn’t receive a bearing in the order from BMW. They had to order it on Saturday and it will be here today. He then said that he will call me once it arrives so that I will know it is here and all is OK.

He did not call me back that afternoon as he indicated that he would.

He did not call me the next day. I had to call him Tuesday afternoon, May 12th for the status. Again, he said “they are working on it now and it will be done by tomorrow – noon. OK

Finally, after the increased costs, after not having my vehicle, depending on rides from others, losing our upcoming vacation because we can’t afford it after the huge increase in repairs costs over the initial estimate that pulled us into the Renton AAMCO shop to begin with, we will get our car back – Finally.

Wednesday, May 13th our car should be done by noon! Yeah right. We received a telephone message on our home number (not our cell numbers that all our other communication has been done on); indicating that he was calling about the status of our car and to provide us an update, not that is was done and ready for pick up!

Thursday, May 14th 8:45 a.m. - I called Rick at Renton AAMCO again. What now? He said that the Transmission was back in the car and they were resetting the codes. It will be done by noon today. I asked, will you call me? Yes.

Thursday, May 14th 4:55 p.m. – I called Rick at Renton AAMCO again. Rick was not available. We spoke to Rock. He said they were test driving the car today and they want to do a “cold start check” tomorrow before the tech releases it. Rock will personally call us in the morning. And, we asked again, to have all the old parts saved for us. Rock said – Sure no problem. And I’ll even throw in a couple of extra? Ha Ha Ha.

I asked if Rick is just out of the office today, will he be in tomorrow or what? He said they had to make a move and that is why the general manager is in today. I asked then to speak to the GM, he said I was talking to him. I then indicated that I am over the top frustrated with this entire situation. The lack of communication and the type of condescending statements used by Rick at Renton AAMCO makes me wonder how they could be in business. Rock said in reply, that they don’t usually tell their customers such things, but this is why they had to make a change and we are not the only customer having complaints. Again, I reiterated my high level of frustration and indicated to him that I had several pages of notes documenting our communications, or lack thereof, and that it is time to contact the corporate office. Rock, said that he would personally see what he could do to discourage us from doing so, and that when we come in tomorrow to pick up our car, we would talk about it in person.

Friday, May 15th Rock, the GM at Renton AAMCO called mid morning stating that they are having shifting issues when test driving and will call again later after they get that worked out. We asked if they have to pull the Transmission again, Rock said it might just be a coding issue.

Rock called again at 5:55 to let us know that they were having communication issues between the computer and the shift solenoid? The electronics are telling it to shift, but it is not responding. It shifts fine manually. The Tech will be in again tomorrow to work on it more and they will let us know what is next.

Saturday, May 16th 12:45 p.m. I called Rock for the newest status. Rock was on the phone – I spoke with a tech. He said that yesterday they refreshed the ECM, but the transmission was not responding. Maybe it is a wire pinched or something that they may have caused. All is fine when you are driving but then the Trans program light pops on and it goes into limp mode.

**This is exactly what it was doing when we brought it into the shop to begin with!

I asked then, does that mean that the computer is what was wrong all along, and that you rebuilt the transmission without it needing to be rebuilt? He said no, “that all the items shown on the inspection sheet when it came in have been fixed”. The only thing we came in for was the Trans Program light coming on and it going into limp mode and it appears that that is not fixed.

The tech said that they have ordered a “Bomb Tool” that provides readings on the screen for each unit. It should tell them exactly wire by wire, where the problem resides. The tool is coming in on Monday (May 18th) and they can tell me then what is next.

I asked to hold so I could speak with Rock. I asked Rock the same thing I asked the tech – did you rebuild the transmission when it wasn’t the problem to begin with? Rock said the ECM can fail the TCM. The Transmission can be broke by the ECM. Diagnostics show a broken transmission. The transmission would not have been rebuilt if it did not need to be rebuilt. “We are not getting a $5000 markup on this car…why would we ruin our own working reputation and have my crew working for free. We are way too far into this to be making any money on it”.

Rock said “What we have are electronics talking to mechanical units and being dealt with by humans. We have to work through it to get to what is really wrong. We want to get it back to you as quickly as possible. We don’t work this hard to come back around to get to a big oops. It had a broken transmission and it has a second issue.”

I said that we would like to dispute the charges that have been placed on our credit card. You are using our money for work that has obviously not been completed and that we have nothing to show for. AAMCO ran our card on April 30th for the initial diagnostics approval and May 1st for an unconfirmed work estimate, with a grand total for both of $4160.42

Rock said that if it would make me feel better that he would credit our card until we have completion, but that the credit wouldn’t even go through until Monday anyhow, and they hope to have the car completed by then. That he just asked us to wait it out until Monday and see what ever information this new tool provides. If they can’t get us our car in a condition that is completed and warranty-able that he would credit our account on Monday – I give you my word.

I reminded Rock of the distrust that has developed over the course of this “lack of repair” and that his word is not good enough at this point. Since the 6th of the month, we have been constantly told that our car would be completed and will be “done tomorrow by noon” followed up by never receiving a call to tell us one way or the other. We just keep being put off. I can not be put off any longer. I am so frustrated and worse yet I feel my hands are tied. Do they even know what they are doing?

I said yes – we will wait until Monday. So here we are… continually still waiting!

AAMCO Transmissions fraud

Charged $2, 898.34 to rebuilt the transmission that they guarrantied was the problem. I did not get more than 2 miles from their shop before the car had the same problem. They found the alternator and battery was not putting out the right voltage and replaced both. That fixed the problem. I had told them at the time I brought the car in that the radio was coming in and out and that the battery light was also. That I din't know if it was related to the transmission or a seperate problem. They charged me $575.06 for the alternator and battery. They knew I was from out of town and had the expence of 2 extra nights in hotels and food. Both my companion and I lost 2 extra days of work as well. A long deserved weekend of rest and recreation turned into a nightmare for no reason other than greed thanks to Aamco's manager.Shame ! shame ! shame ! on St. Augustine's Aamco.

AAMCO Transmissions left my transmission 2 quarts low

I took my 2002 Explorer to AAMCO for a transmission fluid change on 2-18-09. Soon afterward, I found the transmission would disengage on a hard stop. I took the car back on 4-22-09 to check on what the problem may be, and AAMCO Customer Service Manager David Migdol told me to come back later in the afternoon. As my free time is extremely limited, I took the car to another certified repair shop, and they found the transmission fluid to be 2 quarts low! How can that be? My car does not leak a drop of anything. After paying $48.64 for the solution to the problem (the car runs great now) I went back to Mr. Migdol, and I was practically accused of lying. He told me he would give me an unspecified discount on some other service, but I do not trust AAMCO to do a proper job anymore. What is my recourse for reimbursement of the $48.64 spent on repairing my car correctly? Who knows what damage was done to my transmission after driving two months with low fluid. I am quite upset and disappointed.

I took my car in for an oil change, and they called to tell me there was 4 different things wrong with the car. Took to another mechanic and found out it was not so. There was oil all over under the hood. Not even sure if they even changed the oil.

Personally I think $46.00 and change is a cheap lesson and by the way did you at least learn how to check your fluid? As it would have cost you less than $6.oo to add the two quarts yourself...The more you learn ...the less you get screwed :)

AAMCO Transmissions rip off

On February 10, 2009 at 1:45 PM I brought my 1989 Nissan Pickup into AAMCO Transmissions for an estimate to fix the 3rd gear sticking. Firestone had inspected the vehicle earlier and determined that the transmission had a "synchro problem" but could not give an estimate as they do not repair transmissions. I thought this might be a fix within $100.

The AAMCO representative (Rob) informed me he could perform a free estimate, but I would have to leave truck with him. I explained the diagnosis from Firestone but he would not give me ANY idea of the repair cost involved. If he had said it would cost $2000, I would have said I must wait since I don't have the money.

He called Enterprise car rental and said they would pick me up in 10 minutes. Working as an independent contractor, I called my client to let them know I would be a few minutes late for our 2:30 PM appointment. After 40 minutes I told Rob I would just come back another time. Instead, he said he called Hertz and they would be there in 5 minutes (another delay tactic). At 2:45 PM a car from Enterprise arrived and the manager told me he told Rob that they were short handed and that it would take at least 30 minutes to pick me up. Clearly, they or Rob were lying. Since I was delayed so long from this deceit, it appears I will probably lose my work income (I now need to pay for this)!

After leaving the truck at AAMCO, Rob called me and said the repair would cost $650 in total labor of which $395 was to take the transmission apart to diagnose. What happened to my free estimate? Now my truck was torn apart and I was held hostage. Electing NOT to repair the truck would still mean I have to pay $400 just to get it back with NO repair! Then he said the parts will cost $1313 so the total with tax is $2072. I asked Rob if I could just get a rebuilt transmission put in for less money, but said it would cost more (which was a lie). I found a complete rebuilt transmission I could have bought on the internet with a 12 month warranty for $550 which would have reduced my cost dramatically which is how I learned Rob lied to me! Before leaving AAMCO Rob told me the transmission work they did only had a 90 day warranty. So I was lied to so they could charge me even more! When I explained I don't have $2000 dollars he offered to extend credit for the repair.

My truck was now torn apart, I have no transportation for work, and I am held hostage by AAMCO. I reluctantly agreed to get the truck fixed as inexpensively as possible. Rob said the truck would be ready Friday morning. By late Friday morning I called Rob and he said they were still working on it. I called twice more that afternoon with the same reply. Finally Rob says the truck would be ready Saturday morning at 10 AM (2-14-09). By 10:30 AM Saturday, I decided to drive to AAMCO to see what was going on. The rental had to be returned before noon so I would not be charged for a whole weekend versus the already extra fourth day.

Rob then said the Master Cylinder (which looked to be new) was bad and had to be replaced. The Master Cylinder had been replaced within the last year so this seemed very odd. I asked for the part but did not receive it. When I was presented with the bill (now for even more money!), I gave him a coupon I received from AAMCO.com for $100 off any rebuilt transmission. I had called AAMCO and was told that any AAMCO shop would honor the coupon. Rob said he had "already given me an $81 discount, " but he would extend a $19 credit on any future service. I said that would not be very useful since it was unlikely I would ever be back. He refused to honor the coupon from AAMCO at all.

After driving home in my truck that reeked of grease and oil, I also discovered grease on the car seat cover, steering wheel, gearshift, and floorboards. I took the truck for a test drive on Sunday 2-15-09 and have learned that I now have no turn signals and a whining sound when the transmission is in neutral. and the 1st and 2nd gears stick so bad that I was practically hit in traffic when I was in an intersection and the transmission would not engage.

In conclusion, I was originally lied to so I would not leave AAMCO and now my work, I have been forced into a repair I cannot afford, given credit I cannot pay, required to keep (and pay for) a rental car longer than I was originally told, refused a discount provided by AAMCO and was left with a filthy truck interior with no turn signals and a broken transmission! Since I was trapped into fixing the truck without a choice, I would like to officially claim my 3 day right of rescission as outlined by the Federal Trade Commission, cancel any credit extended, return what has been done and get my money back. But, I have learned the owner refuses to acknowledge any requests I have made in this matter.

After this, I would not recommend AAMCO to anyone except my worst enemy.

Aamco 5911 Chimney Rock Road
Houston, Texas 77081

Around the middle of July we took our Buick Enclave into Aamco for two lights that were on. One light was a traction control and the other was the C/E light. We left the vehicle. They called back and had a laundry list of different things that had nothing to do with the original complaints. They said the transmission was bad, brakes, cooling system, catalyst system and rear wheel sensor. None of those complaints were present before dropping the vehicle off. Definitely the transmission was not jumping or missing. They said they were going to charge around $3000 for everything. I said that my wife and I would discuss some things and would call back. When we called back they increased the price to over $4000. I decided that we would not get the work completed so we would come pick the car up. Ron Smith stated that they already ordered the transmission from out of town so we could not come pick it up because they already paid for the transmission and they would loose money. "Go figure." It didn't make sense. My wife stated to let them fix car since we were out of town due to our son's injuries. We returned to Texas and paid for the repairs hoping all was well. Found the inside of the car was very dirty, running very loud and jerking while driving. We told manager at Aamco about the problems. He advised that the car is under warranty, drive it for a while and they would repair any problems.

On 08/08/18, one week later we returned car and told them the car was still running very loud and still jerking while driving. In addition the steering was hard and it would shift hard when put into reverse. They advised there were other problems having nothing to do with the previous repairs.

Took it to the dealership they had advised the power steering pump vein was scorched. Apparently, when Aamco worked on it they had burnt the lines to the power steering pump. Dealership also said the motor mounts were grounding out, new catylitic converter but down sprout cracked and leaking exhaust fumes where the new catylitic converter is connected. We were advised to return problems back to Aamco for corrections since we spent so much money with them. Returned car back to Aamco. Ron Smith and Beal, advised that they were not going to fix anything. It was not their problem. They talked to us real nasty and like we were second class citizens. We spent a lot of money and the only thing we wanted was our car fixed and to treated with dignity.

I advise anyone to never take your car to this Aamco at 5911 Chimney Rock Road, Houston, Texas 77081. They will trick you. Speak nicely, price changes upwards, hold your car hostage and will not stand behind their work. They are not trustworthy. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Your car will come in with minor problems and leave with major problems. Please, please, please do not take your car to this shop. I beg you!

My check engine light came on and I took it to aamco for the diagnostics test, to see what it was. I left it there for 5 hours, after making an appointment for first thing in the morning. When I went to pick it up, they said it was an O2 sensor, would not put which one it was on the invoice, and explained that it would be $220 + tax. I decided to take it for a second opinion, just to make sure. It turned out that there was a hose disconnected and nothing wrong with the O2 sensor! I would have never known and would have paid all that money for something that was not wrong. Great to know there are other honest companies out there.

I had my car toed to them and had the radiator replaced and they couldn't get it started again after that and didn't know why. The toeing was supposed to be free because it was within the 15 miles radius, but it wasn't. They charged 60 for it and wouldn't take that off the bill. Then they try and fix the trans because it was leaking and left all sorts of mess in the trans afterwards. I took it there 12/18/08 and it took them till 12/23/08 to fix the car all the while with horrible communication skills. 9, 000 miles later my trans almost blew if I didn't catch it and take out all the substance that was left in it. I.E. gasket pieces cloggin the filter and metal shavings. By the way, the gasket for the filter was put on BACKWARDS! That is the only reason it lasted so long though... is all I can figure and so... thanks for messing that up?!? All I had done was the radiator to be replaced and trans flush/filter/refill... all costed $500! Needless to say, these guys are a joke in accordance to professionalism and work ethics. DO NOT GO HERE

This is UNBELIEVABLE.

I purchased the 3 year warranty after getting my transmission fixed on my Pontiac G6 at Aamco in Jacksonville at 8721 Atlantic Blvd.

Only 9 months later, my transmission broke down again and I went back to Aamco to get it redone. They DIDN'T HONOR THE WARRANTY and REFUSED TO FIX MY TRANSMISSION. They claimed that the parts were faulty and that they are not responsible for the quality of 3rd party suppliers.

After arguing with them back and forth for hours and hours, they continued to refuse to honor my warranty. I had spent $800 on this 3YR extended warranty and they STILL REFUSED TO HONOR MY WARRANTY.

I ended up taking my car to another transmission shop and had to pay over $2500 to get it redone.

I took my 95 F-150 in because I was told by my regular mechanic that 2nd gear was going bad. Matt the employee told me after they done there test that I needed to repair all of the transmission. I advised him I had no money and bad credit. He said no problem if your credit doesnt go thru we can in house you for the credit. He said it would be around $800 to $1000 no more. I said no big deal. So like an idiot I let him talk me into signing the paper work. After a while he called and said credit declined if I had a co-signed. I asked my brother which has great credit. He sienged for me. Matt told me that it would cost $2459.00 now to fix. I paid no attention to it. My brother was declined due to his pay check was enough to pay his bills and not mine if i defaulted. So then I told Matt to quit messing with it and put it together well lo and behold now it cost me $350 to put back together and it has to be cash no credit card nor check. After a while I get a call from GM Ken he said he will lower my bill to $1600. on a fleet discount. My boss finally said get my truck and go to his mechanic of choice. Oh by the way I was told it would take a day long to put my transmission back together and it would probably not run. When I took it in there running just finr except the 2nd shift. Dont go to this place its a RIPPPPPPPPPPP OFFFFFFFFFFFFFF...

I had taken my car to Aamco to have the transmission replaced in July. They gave me a quote that seemed a little high and I couldn’t afford it at the time, so I bought a transmission with a 101 day warranty and took it to them to install. They told me it would take about a week till they could get around to it.

I was fine with that except I called everyday and they kept telling me it would be done tomorrow. After a week and a half, the guy tells me that transmission wouldn’t work, because it was $1, 100 and a 30 day warranty but they wouldn’t put it in writing.

I drove it for 5 days and then it started making all these noises. I took it back to them and they said the trans. was fine but it needed an axle and a bunch of other parts. Bill $600. By the way, the I was dealing with previously was fired or quit or something. Drove the car for a week and the trans. Left me stranded 2 hours away from home.

Had a tow it to Aamco. They said there was no warranty on any of the previous work and were going to charge $450 just to look at it. I argued with the guy for about an hour and didn’t get anywhere. I had a tow truck come and get the car. Ended up paying $1700 and was without a car for 2 months.

Took vehicle in transmission gone 6/1/11. Did a complete rebuild for $2495.00. Picked up car 6/17/11 Didn't get 10 miles up I95 and transmission went bad again. Yesterday 7/10/11 transmission blew seal and was so hot it set vehicle on fire. Had to call fire department. Service was totally worthless. Now have to pay to rebuild transmission again and repair fire damage. Call me [protected]. Of course I was stuck on the highway in the middle of a long distance trip and didn't have the advantage of being able to ask for referrals and wasn't familiar with any other transmission businesses in the area. My encouragement is that you don't go to Aamco and especially this one in Titusville. They don't seem to be very good at repairing transmissions.

I contacted AAMCO transmissions because they advertised free diagnostic test. I had my towed in for the test and had to decline the service due to limited funds. I informed the person that performed the test that I was declining the service and will have the tow truck pick up my vehicle the following day.The following day I arrived at the shop before the tow truck driver arrived but I did not inspect my vehicle because I did not think that I needed to. When the tow truck arrived this is when I saw my vehicle in the back behind the gate with the hood open and I brought it to the attention of one of the employees. He said that the tow truck driver could close it. I thought to myself why was it the job of the driver to close the hood and not the employee. The driver closed the hood and proceeded to load my vehicle onto the flat bed. Once we arrived at my home and the driver unloaded the vehicle I noticed that the driver's window was down and wanted to roll it up before it rains. I got inside my vehicle and could not believe that my vehicle was not returned to its original condition but parts and wires were all of over the place. I contacted the shop and spoke with the person that performed the test to let him know that I cannot roll up my window because parts and wires were all over the place which prevented my vehicle from turning on. He said that they got really busy and that he will send someone to my home. I waited 3 hours before I called the shop again and spoke with the same person and he said that they were really busy and he will send someone shortly. This time someone did arrive 30 minutes later to place the wire and parts that were on my seat and floor back in position. Also, I asked for a vehicle repair quote but received a multi-point inspection with illegible writing on it and two costs. The clerk or secretary that was at the desk asked the person that did the diagnostic test what was the results of the test and he told her that the fuse planed was bad. At that point she wrote it on the sheet and circled the repair costs.

AAMCO Transmissions transmissions

It took 37 days to fix my transmission! Vehicle was under warranty from another local transmission shop that went out of business. Had to pay over $900 to get my truck back after 37 days and I supposedly was getting a good deal! Would not supply a rental vehicle and was full of new and original excuses!

AAMCO Transmissions ripoff

I dropped my car off on November 28th. They said they would call me with what was wrong. On Dec 5th they called and the torque converter needed replaced. I asked if they were going to replace it with a new one they said yes. I asked them to fix the e-brake. They replaced the caliper in the rear.

I was charged $437.03 on 12/10/08 and picked up the car. I found out they installed a rebuilt torque converter. One week later the ebrake was not working. I stopped there and they dislodged the stuck ebrake. They said to call back after the New Year because they were swamped. I called twice in January they said to call back because they were swamped. I also told them my transmission was having issues again. I called on 2/4/09 they said to come in the next day. I went there, and they said they didn’t have anything until a week later.

From the day AFTER I dropped my car off the 2 guys I spoke to every time were extremely rude, short and mean. They would tell me different things every time I called. It felt like I was being treated that way due to the 2 men being racist. The day I picked up the car, 12/10, I asked what time do you close, he said 3:15pm. When I got there I asked why did you tell me you close at 3:15? He said you must have spoken to someone else. I don’t know why he said that.

My car still has ebrake issues, $529.26 repair at the dealership and there is transmission fluid leaking in the rear $243.56 repair at the dealer.

I have called Aamco customer care 2 times now and left messages.

I have called the warrant company to tell them what they did, I am waiting to hear back.

I am looking to be reimbursed for my cost at Aamco, because of the cost I incurred at the dealership.

Never take your car to this aamco. i had just replaced my evap control valve solenoid at a diiferent auto shops. after the light came back on two times, i decided i wanted a second opinion so i dicided to take it to aamca by me. they confirmed that the engine was tight to the same problem i had just replaced which was a lie. they charged me double of what it first cost me to replace. i felt like i no other choice because i wanted this problem to go away so i asked them go ahead with the repair. i even down down and paid the full amt in full the day after. i came to find out that they did not even know what they were doing. there was no parts; none professional; however, went i went to get my car back, i was charged for labor that was never done and we had to even get the cops involved in order for me to get back my car. this was one horrifying story i wouldn't want anyone else experiencing.

AAMCO Transmissions fraud and cheating

December 15, 2008 I drove my 2002 PT Cruiser to Aamco at 8 am to get a second opinion on fixing a leak in my Transmission. At approximately 4:30 p.m. I contacted Jim the service rep he stated at that time that a cell was leaking and all parts and labor would cost $800.00, and they would give me a 3 year warranty and it would take one day to fix. This was verbal and I did not get this in writing, but I gave him the ok over the phone to do the work.

December 16, 2008 after not hearing a word all day I called AMMCO and spoke to Jim at approximately 4 pm to find out how long it would take to finish my car. At that time I was informed by Jim that the Torque Converter needed to be replaced and that would cost an additional $1, 500.00 for a total of $2, 300.00. I told him no that was being ripped off and told him stop what ever they had done and I would come pick my car up. He told me I would have to pay them $800.00 for the labor that spent taking my transmission apart. I informed Jim at that time that is was very strange because I had taken my car to another transmission shop prior to AAMCO and they told me it was a broken Differential. I had wanted to get my vehicle fixed by a company that is nationwide. Had I know that AMMCO is just a bunch of crooks I would have had the first company fix my vehicle. I just wanted my car back and am really upset with AMMCO. They are the biggest rip-offs. They are refusing to give me my car back until I pay them $800.00 for doing nothing. I just wanted my car back, and take it to the first shop that I had look at it. If they tell me that it looks like someone broke the torque converter I am going to press charges against AMMCO, because the first shop never mentioned anything about a torque converter. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but they gave Aamco until January 1, 2009 to respond to the complaint.

On 12/22/08, I contacted the Aamco president Joseph Foster regarding getting my car back, and I told Mr. Foster what had transpired regarding Jim quoting me $800.00 for a cell rebuilt including parts and labor, then once the transmission plate was removed the price triple, so I had told Jim not to touch my car. Mr. Foster was unreasonable and started screaming at me. Stating I approved the work. I told him I had only approved the cell to be fix because that is what Jim told me I was wrong. Mr. Foster said once they got the transmission apart then they discovered the torgue converter was bad. I told him that I wanted my car back the way it is. Mr. Foster said the transmission is out of the car and will not be put back in until I pay them $800.00. I informed him at that time I will be contacting the Attorney General. Mr. Foster said go ahead neither the BBB, or the AG will do anything.

After 3 weeks and no results from the BBB my dad went ahead and went into the Northglenn Aamco shop to tell them 'you really deceived my daughter and have her over a barrel', but the owner convince my dad to rebuild the transmission, so on January 6, 2009 we picked my vehicle up and my dad pay Aamco $1, 900. for a 'so-called rebuilt transmission, with a one year warrenty'.

The within 5 minutes of driving the vehicle off the lot the car started shimmying and making a low pitched squealing noise. I took the car to two other shops (free of charge) and both told me that the upper and lower engine strut mounts are broken, but they could not prove that Aamco broke them, or that they were broken on purpose. Also the steerling is squealing, but I know that Aamco will claim they had nothing to do with anything.

I took the car back to Aamco today January 12, 2009 and was told by the personnel that they got my $1, 900.00 and to never bring my vehicle back to Aamco again (go figure - so called warrenty). What did I expect - 'THIEFS'.

AAMCO Transmissions do not take your car here!

Bringing my car into this AAMCO was the worst experience with any business that I have ever had. I spoke withthe owner Vijay last week and told him my situation. My speedometer stopped working and the day it stopped working I noticed my check engine light would go on about ten minutes into driving and shut off everytime I turned the car off. AAMCO advertisment states that they will check and diagnose the "check engine light for free promotion." After speaking with Vjay many times on whn to bring the car in I took a day off and brought it in. I called about two hours before to make sure he remembered me and taht it was still ok to bring in my vehicle. His exact words were that I could bring it in and they would look at it for 45 minutes and if they couldn't figure it out they would call me and I could make the descision to move forward or take my car back free of charge. He stated that I shouldn't go spend a bunch of money somewhere when they would check t free of charge. I was satisfied and arranged a ride, and a rental car. I was just relieved to have someone look at it at this point.
I arrived at AAMCO at 1:30 pm and was behind a couple that was getting their car. After they were done I was greeted by the manager. He stated that Vijay wasn't there and "what did I need?" I stated that Vijay told me to come in to get the engine light checked and that I could get whatever work done here once it is diagnosed if i chose to do so. He laughed about me taking teh day off and said "its almost 2pm, what are you talking about?" I was immediately turned off by Steve's attitude and I already knew I did not want to do business with this guy. He then calls Vijay asking him if this was true about doing a free engine light check.
He slammed the phone on the reciever and said "ok I will look at it for 15 minutes and you better believe I will be calling you to start charging you almost immediately. Your car is a dinosaur and its old man!" I was so repulsed and insulted that I said "this was obviously a bait and switch to get me in here and I am leaving now." He then kept telling me to stop looking for freebies and to get a new car if I didn't like it. I let him get the best of me and I told him that he was a jerk and I have never been talked to in this manner. I then walked ou and got into my car. Steve followed me out yelling that I need a new car and threatened to "beat my ###, " if I complained. He then yelled some racial slurrs that don't apply to me whatsoever. I am Italian and Irish and he was calling me a "stupid mexican!" I don't know who you have ruuning your stores but this guy is a huge liability. I have contacted the BBB as well as my family attorney. The racial slurrs and the intimidation was all over me being invited in to take advantage of a national advertisment. I understand that there are restrictions and limitations to prmotions but this cost me a day off of work, a rental car, humiliation and being intimidated? I know I have an old car. I get in it everyday and drive it. I don't need to be ridiculed about driving a "dinosaur." I would NEVER take my car to these crooks

Oh Boy... what can be said about this review? Although it seems pretty one-sided, I'll bet there's more to this story.
What can we learn here? I guess running around town looking for free things such as actual diagnosis, not just a
"check", anyone with a scanner can tell you a code, but what if the code is vague such as "running lean/rich", that tells you little
or nothing about the problem and you really get to spend time finding the problem. Nobody does free diagnosis, and nobody
works for free either.
Another thing... If you go somewhere expecting to get your car back that day, it's best to come early. Don't expect the world to
just drop everything because you need to go to work or need your car back. If it has a problem, plan to be without, so if it takes
longer, it's not going to be an inconvenience. Sometimes I'm just baffled by what people expect, no forethought what-so-ever
and the first to run to the internet and complain, while showing you why in their lengthy review that the situation was bound to go
south simply because the lack of forethought from the reviewer

AAMCO Transmissions awful company

Just like all the other cases with AAMCO, they fixed my transmission before and when my car went bad for the same issue, they towed my car for free and then went ahead and repaired it without my consent, knowing that I couldn't afford it. They are abusive and request personal information and try to get money for everything! I did not authorize anything and I am ready to put a big complaint. Any other victim around?

AAMCO Transmissions fraud and cheating

On 2/22/08, I had the transmission rebuilt in my 1998 Ford Windstar at AAMCO of Nashville, TN. On 5/5/08, I also purchased an extended 3 year, 36000 mile warranty. On 7/21/08, I moved to Dillsburg, PA. Around the end of September 2008, I noticed the transmission was leaking fluid, so, I brought it to AAMCO of Camp Hill on 9/29/08. I had stated that the transmission was leaking, and there was also a clunking noise on occasion, coming from the front suspension, when I would drive the vehicle. On 10/2/08, I received a call from Arthur, the manager, stating that the leak was a faulty front transmission seal and the transmission had to be removed to perform this repair. He also stated that the clunking noise was coming from worn drive axles and sway bar links. I explained that drive axles had been replaced previously some 25, 000 miles ago and couldn't understand how they were faulty again? Arthur assured me that the aforementioned items were the cause of the clunking noise, so I authorized him to replace them. He also said there would be no labor charge to install the new drive axles, since they had to be removed in order to remove the transmission. What he didn't tell me was that when he purchased the parts from Advance Auto, he marked the price of them up 300% when he sold them to me. I personally went to Advance Auto to confirm this. I picked the vehicle up on 10/6/08 and paid $530.79 in cash for the items not covered under AAMCO's warranty. I contacted AAMCO of Camp Hill a few days later and told them that I still heard the exact same clunking noise from the front suspension, so obviously the axles and sway bar links were not the cause of the noise. I asked for a full refund, but was refused and was told to bring the vehicle back in to be further looked at on 10/14/08, which I did so. The mechanic checked the front suspension again and now told me that I needed ball joints with control arms and radius arm bushings. The owner, Shawn Lilley worked out a verbal deal with me that since they made an error on their diagnosis, they would install these additional parts, if I purchased them (and I did) and there would be no additional labor charge to me.

I had also noticed that the mechanic had bent the body on the bottom of my vehicle on both sides near the front wheels when he improperly placed it on the hydraulic lift. I made an appointment to bring the vehicle back to AAMCO on 10/16/08 to have the work performed and decided that I would discuss the body damage with Shawn the owner at that time as well. On 10/16/08, at about 9:30am I received a telephone call from Arthur telling me not to bring the vehicle back in to have the additional repairs made, because he claimed he owned me nothing and had fixed the initial problems. I explained that this was untrue and that the owner, Shawn, had worked out a deal with me. He told me Shawn shouldn't have done that. After a few unpleasant conversations with Arthur during the course of that day, he said he would get back to me and discuss it again with Shawn. On 10/17/08 Arthur called me again and told me that he now felt he owed me something and would call me back later that day. He never did.

On 10/19/08, I took my vehicle to Firestone in Mechanicsburg and they did a thorough inspection of the vehicle and charged me $21.19. I was told that besides the additional parts that were needed, it also needs a right front strut bearing, which is what is causing the clunking noise and that the exhaust gasket behind the catalytic converter is leaking, that Arthur told me he had also fixed as a favor. I personally also checked the old drive axles returned to me that were supposedly faulty and found absolutely nothing wrong with them. On 10/20/08, I obtained a body shop repair estimate from Dellinger's Auto Body in Mechanicsburg for the damage done by AAMCO to the underside of my vehicle and the cost to repair the damage is $710.87 total.

I then dropped a copy of the Firestone diagnosis, body shop estimate and pictures of the body damage off to AAMCO of Camp Hill. The owner, Shawn, hid in the back and left me to deal with his mechanic, who had caused the body damage and outright denied it, even though I witnessed him cause it personally and told him so. I then purchased the additional parts needed to correctly repair the vehicle and it will be repaired at GOODYEAR of Camp Hill on 10/23/08.

My mother dropped off my 1997 mini van that I let her borrow for an estimate to get an estimate because the inspection failed. The mini van has over 160, 000 miles on it and the book value is probably around $800. Instead of giving an estimate they decided to do the work on it (the guy claims she gave the go-ahead over the phone, which she did not) they worked on it and is now trying to charge $600 for the work! We (I) never authorized any work! I'm not sure if we have a leg to stand on because they will hold the vehicle hostage.

I agree, do not take your car here, this place is a complete rip off.

AAMCO Transmissions scam and cheating

I took my car into Aamco transmission with a check engine light on and my transmission would get stuck in 2nd gear (auto trans) Chrysler calls it limp mode for diagnostic and repair. I told them to check all harnesses (picktails) and sensors because this is a common effect in the model of car (Chrysler 300M 1999). I was given the run around and more and more charges and finally told my transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of 3000.00 dollars. I was out of town and ok'd the repair. I picked up my car supposedly repaired with a new transmission and all the fixings, only to find the problem I had previously before the replacement of my transmission and loss of 3000.00 dollars still persist. I returned my car told them the same thing is still happening. They kept my car for over a week, Jason called me 3 times, first he said they are checking all the connections and electronics, second call he said they couldn't find anything so he needs to drop the transmission and check the inside, 3rd call was a over a week later where he said they couldn't find anything wrong and the car wouldn't fault again so pick up the car and wait for it to fault again. When picking up my car he stated they didn't do anything but drive my car everyday to see if anything happened and nothing did, meanwhile I am without my much needed car. I believe they misdiagnosed my car and really don't have the proper personnel to fix my car, my complain is to get my money back and repaired by professionals who know what they are doing. There is so much more to this story but little time to write. My car is still not running properly and even though they replaced my transmission not only do I have the same fault happening again, my transmission is shifting very badly and very rough riding. I mentioned this to Jason and he said he agrees the transmission is shifting rough but he refused to repair or replace.

I took my car in for new transmission seals, and a flush. After I had left, they called me stating that I was in need of a thermostat also. I knew the cost of the seals was 225.00, He explained to me that the thermostat was only 18.00 and because the transmission would be out, it would be an easy fix. I asked what the total would be, and he said 265.00 I asked again, "That's the total, right?" A half hour before I was to pick my car up, they called and told me that my price was 498.00. Bait and switch is one thing. 6 months later, My transmission started leaking again. I posted a rant on Yelp, and they offered to take a look at it for me. Knowing what I had already gone through once, I decided not to accept. It has been just over a year, And guess what needs to be replaced. My thermostat. So I called them to ask what warranty they have on thermostats, And the reply was 90 day's. So I should pay 265.00 every year for a new thermostat, and 225.00 every six months for seals? I don't think so. AAMCO Rancho Cordova, Ca.

Sorry to hear about your experience... But the good thing is they didn't get your money... I also went to one near my house some years back to have them look at my car.. They said I needed a transmission... But I said to my self that is way to high in price.. I will look around.. And I am glad I did.. It was something minor that was needed to be done. And I was so happy that, that place didn't get my business... Every time I pass there I can smile and say to myself you didn't sucker me.. It's hard to find a good place to go to and keep your business there because in my option they all take from your pocket.

AAMCO Transmissions aamco rip off over $1200 spend for &new clutch& that does not even work.

Called Aamco on Valencia because they offered free towing and they specialized in clutch and transmission repairs. They quoted me around $800 total for parts and labor.

Later that evening I had the Jeep towed to Aamco and they said they would begin working on it on Saturday August 9th.

Saturday August 9th 2008

I called Aamco and asked what they had found out. They informed me that the slave cylinder was out, they needed to replace the clutch, the pressure plate, and the bearings. They informed me the labor would be $490 and the total cost would be $1200. This was a lot of money and more than I had originally been quoted but I agreed as they were the experts and I wanted my jeep to run smoothly as it had done in the past. They said it would be complete by the end of Monday August 11th.

Monday August 11th

I called Aamco towards the end of the day to ask when it would be ready and I was informed it would take longer than expected and would be ready on Tuesday August 12th.

Tuesday August 12th 2008

I received a call from Aamco around 10:00am and they informed me that the Jeep was complete and was running smoothly and driving great. I was pleased although it had taken slightly longer than I was told I was excited to get it back and have it functioning properly. I informed them I would be coming in around 12:00pm to pick it up on my lunch hour. Julio informed me that the line from the Master Cylinder to the Slave cylinder was not a jeep part and was a temporary part but it still worked fine. He suggested that in the future I get it replaced in the future but for now it would be working fine. He said the part was on back order to 6-8 weeks from Chrysler/Jeep.

I picked the jeep up was handed the keys, I paid checked the receipt and everything I had been quoted was on the receipt and correct. I went to the jeep started it and drove away. I was pleased with the results. From Aamco to my work was about a ten-mile drive. Once I got on the highway I started to feel difficulty shifting gears, and I heard a grinding noise. I didnt think much of it as I thought the parts were probably settling.

Driving home from work which is a 25 mile drive was when I really started to question whether the jeep had been repaired properly as it was almost impossible to change the gears. At the traffic lights I could not get the jeep into 1st gear and when I arrived home my hand was red and painful from trying to shift gears.

Wednesday August 13th 2008

I drove to work in the morning and experienced the same issues I had before so when I arrived at work I called Aamco and explained what was going on and they informed me that the clutch line probably had air bubbles in it and I would need to be bled. They asked me to bring it in and I said I could not take any time off work and it was not drivable. After many times trying to convince Aamco they decided to tow it free of charge to Valencia from my work.

Later in the day I received a call from Aamco saying that after it had been bled, it shifted great, and was driving fine. I was a little bit weary of this considering the problems I had experienced but when I went to pick it up it shifted perfectly and drove nicely.

I had been driving the jeep to and from work for around a week and then everything started acting up again. It started by grinding slightly when I changed gears, then it became stiff to change gears and eventually it became grinded loudly and was almost impossible to get into gear at traffic lights. The main issue I had was when driving on the freeway when I would try to change gears it would be a very loud grinding noise and impossible to get into gear so I would just have to coast along until it finally popped into gear. Along with the danger of traveling at a fast speed and then coasting and having traffic zoom around you at high speed. It also caused my hand and arm a great deal of pain trying to shift gears.

Friday August 29th 2008

I was planning to take the Jeep on my lunch hour to get it sorted today; however, on the way to work the clutch went out completely. The pedal had no pressure and was just floppy and it was 100% impossible to get the jeep into gear. I had to start the jeep in first gear and drive home in first gear; thankfully I was only around 3 miles from my home. I called Aamco to explain what had happened and they blamed me. They said they told me from the start that the line from the master cylinder was bad and the jeep should not be driven. I argued back saying that the line was mentioned to me but why did they call me and tell me it was ready and working perfectly. I told them they needed to fix the problem and basically they refused, they blamed me, and said there was nothing they could do because the part was on back order for 6-8 weeks. I decided to then call around to try and find this part myself even though I am no car expert and didnt even have a clue what I was asking for. Several places I called were confused with what I was asking for because I had no means of explaining it. I called Chrysler/Jeep and asked if they had any of the lines and if I could possible get one sooner that 6-8 weeks and they informed me that they did not even manufacture this part any longer. This angered me so much that Aamco would lie just so they could install a new clutch system for $1200 knowing it would not even work.

For the next week I had to get rides to and from work; which was extremely difficult, wasted so much gas, caused me to be late to work, and upset me in general. I kept calling around and I found a company called Hose Power who could make a new line for me this was great news; however, I did not know the location for this line on my jeep so I needed Aamco to remove it for me. The only problem being I had no means of getting the jeep to them

Aamco refused to have my Jeep towed to their location so it sat on my driveway immobilized for this whole week. Eventually I had to get my insurance company to arrange to have it towed to Aamco and lose out on my one free towing they offer per year. What if something serious happens now when I am driving somewhere? Well I had to get it towed to Aamco so I did and they agreed to remove the part. By this time I had missed so much time of work I could not miss any more days so I had to have my mother drive to Aamco to pick up the part. They towed my car to Aamco at 9:00am on Tuesday Sept 9th and said the part only took 15 minutes to remove. My mother called them and they said she can follow the tow truck and wait 15 minutes and they would have it ready. She was unable to do this so she asked them to remove it and she would be there at 11:00am to pick the part up. My mother arrived late at 12:00pm and asked for the part and they said they did not have it out. She asked them to remove it so she could take it to Hose Power. They said they could not because there were other people ahead of her. That was completely crazy considering all we had been trough and the jeep had been sitting at their lot all day. My mother informed them that they had to get it done ASAP as she had to be at Hose Power and they agreed, took out the part and gave it to her.

She took the part to Hose Power to show them what was wrong with it and they agreed they could make it. It only took them around an hour and then she picked it up and took it back to Aamco. Once she arrived at Aamco they said it would take 2 hours to install it and to bleed the clutch so she left.

After around two hours they installed the part and called to say it was leaking still and the part was not correct. This was not Aamcos fault but Hose Powers fault so I do not blame Aamco for this.

On Wednesday September 10th I took the hose back to Hose Power and they said they knew it wouldnt work cause this piece inside one of the ends of the hose was missing (why they even replaced the hose or charged me $50 I will never know). They told me of some places who might carry the end that was missing a piece. I called around and one Jeep specialty store had a brand new factory jeep hose. I was so excited, my Jeep finally would be fixed and work because I had had a whole new clutch system put in and now I would have a new line.

On Thursday September 11th I purchased the brand new line and took it to Aamco at 12:00pm. They said that the piece was correct and it would work perfectly. I asked when it would be complete and they said it should take two hours to install it and bleed the clutch line, but give them till 4:00pm. At 4:00pm I called to check if it was done and they said they had not even started on it. I questioned this and they informed me that there were other people ahead of us. How they could have put other customers ahead baffles me considering everything we went through, all the waiting around, all the lies. I just thought they would at least make an effort to try and make the customer happy at the end.

On Friday September 12th I called Aamco at 10:00am and they said it was done, working fine, shifting fine and was perfect. I was ecstatic and finally felt closure after all I had been through I was willing to put it all behind me and have me jeep working perfectly. I picked it up at 12:30pm on my lunch hour and drove it. It did work good. For around five minutes. Then it started grinding lightly, sticking when shifting, the clutch pedal seemed loose and temperamental. On the freeway back to work it had stuck badly and did a very loud grinding noise and shook my hand badly causing sever pain. I also had several cars and trucks have to slam their brakes on and swerve to avoid colliding with me. Once of the freeway and shaken badly the jeep then proceeded to stall at every traffic light because it did not recognize the clutch was engaged when I came to stop. It was impossible to get into first gear and second, third and so forth. I am now typing this sitting at work because I am infuriated and wondering how I am going to get home from work and enjoy my weekend.

AAMCO Transmissions awful company

I took my car to Aamco for a transmission repair. I signed an agreement for $995 to have them remove, inspect the problem, and re-install the transmission (Minus parts required to correct the problem). When Steve the General Manager called me with the results, he wanted $4000 to correct a first gear synchronization problem. There was no relief for the list of parts that he stated needed to be replaced to correct the problem. I paid to have the transmission put back in the car with no repairs. Aamco is in the transmission business, this was not the first transmission they have seen with a similar problem. Had they told me up front they were going to charge me three times the market value for the replacement parts, I would not have let them touch my car.

Boy, sometimes you can't follow the logic scheme with some people. Anonymous, you take the day off of work and show up at almost 2:00pm? What if you wanted the vehicle repaired? Then what? Still have to diagnose, order parts, wait for their arrival, repair and then test drive... all by 5:00pm! Sometimes people just aren't being realistic. Frankly, I don't mind if people look for freebies, but remember, if someone is going to do you a favor, be respectful of their time.
I also notice that Jonas is an ex-employee huh? Most likely a fired one. When you fail for your next employer you can go on the net and bad-mouth them too.
The worst company in the U.S.? I disagree. How many other companies give you a warranty that's backed in every state, with warranty options to fit your budget? These are things you won't get from any local garage. Look around you'll see.
Sometimes I can't help but wonder when I read some reviews, They seem to have an underlying theme to most of them. Some people are so upset with their own financial situations that the internet is the only way they can vent. Why is it that countless happy customers get their vehicles repaired with out a hitch all have one thing in common, they can afford it. But if it's the opposite, they're getting ripped off.
One thing Mr.Larry Engels at the top of the page never mentions is what type of vehicle he drives. Probably an expensive import... Well Larry, if you drive an expensive import, I'm sorry, parts are expensive too...
In the future, leave a name and city where you are from "anonymous" that way you can be contacted and possibly get your issues resolved.

AAMCO Transmissions scam and cheating

AAMCO has just plain LIED and CHEATED us twice. We were foolish enough to give them the benefit of the doubt the second time. We took our car in the first time to get a tune up they sent us to another AAMCO claiming they couldn't do the tune up at that time but had a specialist at another address. The next place they sent us to after we said again, we need a TUNEUP... they looked at the car and said because their diagnostic machine was not working that had to take the car apart to check it and then when they took all morning to do that..they told my husband HE needed a tune-up... what? A TUNEUP?... HELLO we told them that before they took it apart so they charged for the taking it apart and we never got a tuneup. I guess we are foolish for forgiving them and we took our car later to get the AC looked at and freon added. It was kinda working but off and on they said there was no leaks but that they added Freon and did a A/C Dye and said it should be working now... AFTER spending $309.39 we took it home and nothing appeared much different, it had the same problems... so we asked them to check it again after a few days... they said bring it in now. We waited another long day for them to tell us our A/C had to be rebuilt it wouldn't last long and had major problems but that the filled it back up with freon. We took it home and immediately noticed the A/C only blew warm air. I called TONY back up and asked what exactly did you do for me? If my A/C was in bad condition why didn't you tell me that the first time we brought it in instead of charging us for a... non-fix. He said that he did put freon in. We took it to another PHX local mexican guy who had a reputation for doing good work on A/c... he checked the car said yeah nothing is wrong with your a/c fan, no leaks but just no freon... WELL... AAMCO WHERE IS THE BLASTED FREON YOU MADE US PAY 350.00 for.?..We took it home from the nice honest mexican mechanic and it worked... All we wanted was a TUNE-up and Freon and AAMCO SCREWED US OVER... We will no longer affiliate with anybody of your AAMCO Company... Tony seemed nice... but obviously lied through the skin of his scaly teeth.

I bought a 1967 Ford Mustang that did not have the original engine or transmission. It was modified for racing then made street legal. I was having trouble with the dipstick tube leaking. I had to keep putting transmission fluid in the vehicle every third or fourth day. I noticed that the seal around the dipstick tube was not seating properly so I contacted Aamco to see about getting a new one. They happily agreed to help me out. What a nightmare that has been.

I dropped my car off with them to fix and since I was dropping it off i asked for an estimate on a shifter close to original as possible. I also asked them to check over the transmission. When they contacted me, I was told that I needed to have my transmission rebuild. I agreed to have them do it because they do advertise as being transmission specialists.

We talked about price, and I was given an estimate of around $800.00. I asked about getting another transmission put in. a used one. I was told that it would be less expensive and a better way to go with rebuilding because I wouldn't know what I was getting with a used one. I told them to rebuild it.

The car has a Hurst Promatic shifter in it but I did not have Aamco do any work replacing that. The estimate was too high. During the work on the transmission I was told by them that a few things were not hooked up and that they couldn't be. My reverse lights, detent cable and neutral safety switch were not connected because whoever put that transmission in butchered it. They said they may be able to hook those things up but I would need to get another shifter and it would have to be modified for them to do the work. I did not want another shifter.

When all was said and done I paid $1339.24 for a dipstick tube and rebuild transmission. I picked the car up and from the moment I drove it off the lot it didn't feel right to me. The shifter was not hooked up right and I had to go down twice to get it into reverse. When I'd be in low gear popping it up into drive it would go straight to neutral. When on the highway doing 55-60 the car would whine like it needed to go into a higher gear. I was afraid that I'd blow it up.

The car also had trouble starting. I'd have to play with the ignition turning the key on and off until the starter would engage and crank over. the car was not and did not perform like that before they worked on it. I noticed that my shifter cable was not hooked up right and two bolts where the transmission gets connected to the engine were just hanging in there. They weren't evened tightened at all.

I went back there a week later because they asked me to bring it in for a weekly check up. I informed them of all of the problems and concerns I had. They knew it was not the original transmission. The person whom i dealt with was Pam. She went out to start it but it would not start. I had to start it. I mentioned that it started fine until you touched it. I told her that my starter is misaligned. Well she did not take the blame for that and said that it was nothing they did. well yes it is because you have to remove the starter to get the transmission out.

She took it for a drive and said it ran fine. I totally disagree with her. I mentioned about the way it shifted and again it was 'nothing they did'. That was all blamed on the shifter itself. Well that shifter was working properly before they touched it. I was very dissatisfied with their work. I did not get adequate responses to my requests and no fault was taken by them. She said that I could leave the car with them and they'd look over it. I refused. I did not trust them because it was worse than before and because they refused responsibility for my problems.

I took it to another shop to have it checked out. What they told me surprised me. I was informed that Aamco should not have touched that transmission. It was not designed for that car or engine. The transmission is designed for fuel injected engines and mine is not fuel injected. They also stated that Aamco should have refused to work on it based on everything that was disconnected. The transmission was too big for that car. They are to be transmission specialists so they should have refused to work on it unless I was getting another transmission put in it.

I really do believe that they were just trying to take someone for money and that someone was me. I have been pursuing a refund of some type for the past few months but to no avail. They are cold, heartless people. I contacted their customer service hotline to file a complaint and demanded a refund. They are a franchise store and a refund is a long shot. To make a long story short and to the point no refund was given.

I next contacted the Better Business Bureau about this and in the letter I received. no refund yet again. I am not going away and I hope Aamco understands this. They ripped me off by performing work on a transmission that they should have refused to work on. I had a 12 month warranty on it which states that its covered the transmission and defective workmanship. The whole job was defective because of how it ran and shifted and started after it left there. Oh, but I forgot... it was nothing they did.

Since then I have had a used transmission put in it costing less than their nothing work. I am getting another shifter installed which was also three times cheaper than what they quoted. I just wish they would fess up to a bad job they did and return my money. I am looking for a full refund, but would be happy with a partial one. If this goes on longer I may file for suing over stress and hardship issues. The other garage who replaced my transmission also said that they'd help me in any way to get my money back. There is more that I'd like to say about them but I don't want to write those words so I'll end. Whoever reads this DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO ANY AAMCO. They suck!

Stay Far Away from Aamco !!!

Aamco lied to us. My 2006 Malibu was not shifting into 3rd gear. I stopped there because I thought it was an emergency and went to the nearest transmission place. I left and I think the manager's name is Sean in Jacksonville. he called me and told me that the base pay is 1200 dollars and that my wheel bearing on the left side was bad and that would be about 300 dollars. He said the cost will be around 14 to 18 hundred dollars. And asked me if it was okay to work on it and I said yes. When I went there a couple days later to get my phone charger out of the car, he said the total will be 2600 dollars. I said you quoted me a price of 14 to 1800 dollars. And then he took me to show me all the parts that he had to put in there and what was worn out. But he never showed me my own parts out of the car. He only showed me the new parts. Which he might as well put a whole transmission in there. which are 600 dollars if you buy them on line. So I kept asking him what the 1200 dollars was for. I never really got an answer. He showed me his computer and all the parts and how much they costed but not what the base pay covered. I understand 400 dollars for labor. and if he charged 400 and 400 that would only be 800 in labor out of the 1200 dollar base pay. Stay far away from Aamco.

I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THIS COMPLAINT.I HAVE MY OWN COMPLAINT, I ALSO WAS RIPPED OFF BY AAMCO.BUT NOT AS BAD AS OTHERS. I ASKED FOR THE SEAL ON MY TRANSFER CASE TO BE REPLACED.I KNEW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT.IT SHOULD HAVE COST $300.00 OR LESS MY PHONE QUOTE WAS JUST THAT.THATS WHY I TOOK MY TRUCK TO AAMCO.AFTER I LEFT MY TRUCK I GOT A PHONE CALL THE PRICE WENT UP TO $780.00.I DISAGREED WITH THE PRICE .BUT GEORGE CONVINCED ME IT WAS RIGHT I WAS AT WORK SO I REALLY COULDNT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT TILL MY LUNCH.I CALLED SEVERAL AAMCO SHOPS AND A FEW MOM &POP SHOPS THEY ALL QUOTED $300.00 AT THE MOST $500.00.SO I CALLED AND DISAGREED WITH THE PRICE.MY RESPONSE WAS IM GOING TO CALL THOSE SHOPS TO SEE WHY THEIR QUOTES WERE SO LOW.HE CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THEY HADNT SEEN THE VEHICLE THAT THEY WERE JUST GIVING A ROUGH ESTIMATE.THEN HE GAVE ME SUPPOSEDLY A BREAK ON THE LABOR ABOUT $80.00.I WANTED TO TAKE MY TRUCK SOMEWHERE ELSE BUT I WAS INFORMED THEY HAD MY TRUCK APART. I CONTINUED TO CALL ABOUT THE PRICE I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG.WHEN MY TRUCK WAS READY I CALLED AGAIN STILL DISAGREEING WITH THE PRICE THEN I WAS INFORMED THAT GEORGE HADNT EXPLAINED HIMSELF CLEARLY HE THEN TOLD ME THEY COMPLETELY RESEALED MY TRANSFER CASE.HE TOID ME THIS WAS NEEDED BECAUSE I LIVE IN THE HILLS AND HE DIDNT WANT IT RETURNED LEAKING AND HE WOULD HAVE TO FIX IT FOR FREE WHAT A CROOK THEY ENDED UP CHEATING ME OUT OF $400.00. THATS ALOT OF MONEY FOR ME.IT TOOK ALL OF MY SAVINGS.I DOUBT THEY EVEN DID WHAT THEY CLAIMED TO.IS THERE.I SURE LEARNED AN EXPENSIVE LESSON.WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO SCAM THE PUBLIC AND GET BY WITH IT.

You two are both ridiculous. Why would you take on shops word over another. Did the shop who waid AAMCO did wrong offer you a price to fix it? Were they a transmisison shop? You have no leg to stand on trying to get your mmoney back or take them to court. If they rebuilt your transmission for less than 1500.00, that is cheap.
And as for the person who says they would not give you the code...if you know what is wrong with your car, why do you take it to a shop?

AAMCO Transmissions terrible experience

I went to Aamco figuring that of all the little shops I hadn't heard of, when it came to my car, I would go to a REPUTABLE place. I went to Aamco to have some coolant lines replaced. I had a temporary fitting of rubber hose fitted into a flared brass fitting when I went in. I needed it replaced w/ a new line OR to have some new lines bent into shape and installed. This is not at all difficult for a Professional Transmission shop to do.

They said that they could not order these lines anymore, but that they could be bent and installed from new lines. That was perfectly acceptable so I authorized the work, to the tune of $200.00. They kept my car for a couple days even, saying they had a lot of other vehicles to work on as well, and that of course it took time to fix my coolant lines properly. After about a week or so of having my car back, it leaked. I took it back.

This time I was told that because my car was older, and very dirty underneath, they were gonna do a thorough check to see if it was in fact THEIR work leaking. They got back to me w/ a veritable laundry list of leaks my car had developed, now to the tune of $1500.00, but their work HAD IN FACT BEEN LEAKING. So they said they would fix their work and that I should get the rest fixed as soon as possible.

My car kept leaking, but it wasn't all just oil as they had led on, it was Tranny Fluid. I could tell by the puddle that was still fresh daily under the spot where I park, in the same spot as before I went in the first time to have it fixed, under the coolant lines.

This is now a few months later. I had my dad check my car out, he was a Licensed Mechanic at one time, and I just don't have $1500 bucks lying around for me to throw at my car all the time. My dad jacked up the car and had me and my husband crawl under to see as well... There where it had been all the time was the same piece of rubber hose that Aamco had been paid to replace w/ new coolant line. He called Aamco and asked why they did it. The manager cussed him (my dad) out and said he should have just fixed the car for me himself! I did end up getting my dad to fix the leak, it cost all of $10.00 and a couple hours labor.

Aamco's Consumer Relations #, an 800 #, said they'd get back to me, but have not done so. I called and asked for a refund from the shop I went to. The manager got VERY RUDE and said I had MISUNDERSTOOD what it meant to replace the coolant line. I said if I didn't get a refund my next call was to the Bureau of Automotive Repair and that I would tell EVERYONE what happened there, here I am telling you... Don't go to Aamco!

Called and was told that a repair of my transmission would be between [protected] which included the 900.00 diagnostics. The price depended on if we wanted a 12, 24 or 36 month warranty. Made appointment for 8am Saturday. Was told that the diagnostics and repair would take 3 days. Contacted them on Tuesday morning and was told that they just started working on it. Called them in the afternoon and was told that the repair would cost 2100.00 and that was only the 12 month warranty. They know that once you have to pay them 900.00 you won't take it somewhere else and have to pay an additional [protected] to do the repair. I feel this is a bait and switch deal. The only reason I went with them was because they are a nationwide company. You expect this type of shady deal from a back yard mechanic not a national company. I am just sick because the truck isn't worth 2100.00 and now I can't afford to take it somewhere else and I can't pay my mortgage because I have to pay them an additional 300.00 I had not budgeted for.

Car was brought to the shop because it made a loud bang around the transmission area then quit running. After waiting over a week and a bill of $2102.99 my 18 year old daughter still does not have a car to drive. She picked the car up drove a couple miles and the car did the exact same thing leaving her stranded in traffic. It did the same thing several more times as we tried to get it home. She will have to continue renting or borrowing a car until the real problem with her car can be determined and repaired. Obviously the mechanics at this shop did not check the cars operation very well.

I feel she was ripped off bad.

AAMCO Transmissions Rip off

I just took my car to aamco in salisbury on friday april 4, 2008. After talking with sheila and get a good price to rebuilt my mazda 626 1998 transmission. On monday april 7, 2008 she called me to asked me to go by the office to discusse the transmission problem.
After she gives me a price of 1700. She said that the car will be ready by wednesday april 9, 2008. But on monday afternoon she called me back to said that the battery of the car was dead and they need to get one, but I refused and asked them to wait until I bring my own. So on tuesday april 12, 2008 they called me to see that they have the transmission off the car, they told me that they will have to charged me another 900 to the bill. So we was so mad about the pricing game that we refused to paid 2500 to rebuild a transmission that was supposed to be 1700, this lady started talking so much that my fiance told her that he will give me the difference, but he wanted the car ready asap.
On friday april 11, 2008 they calles us to pick up the car, but for our surprise the car don't take reverse, so we went inside and asked sheila and the mechanic to see the car and refused to take the car because they do not fix it, sheila and the mechanic told us that the car will be ok after we drive it couple times, the gear get stock because was parked for long time, but after we started talking and telling them the the car was parked for 3 weeks and the car isn't ok, they told me if I do not take the car they will charge me 50.00 per day. Sheila and the mechanic told me to drive the car and if any problem I have warranty for 12 months and the will take care of me. But after my fiance started screaming and asking questions they receive the car back on saturday april 12, 2008
Now they promise to give me the car in good conditions and the transmission work done. But today april 4, 2008 I called aamco and talked to sheila, she started asking stupid questions about if I got in to a water spot or if the car was in contact with water, because the mechanic said that the transmission fluid have water, I asked what that have to do with me, you see the car, you know the car wasn't able to be drive in reverse, I called you to tell you that the car still doing the samething 2 hours after I get the car, and I will not move my car until been repaired properly, after a long talk, I told her that my car transmission better be prepared because I paid before they have the repair performed if they did it. The told me that all the noise the transmission was doing was because the car needs 2 motor mount and a transmission mount. They ask for us to paid for it, but I decide to go to other place and buy the parts myself and they install them. We asked him to save all parts because we want it. Now the said that they will call me tomorrow tuesday to tell me what is going on with the transmission, my fiance asked for the money back and to forget about the repairs, because she and the mechanic was telling us so many lies that he do not want to deal with the anymore, shela told ivan my fiance that if he wants the car back he have to paid the 450 for them taking out the transmission, because they do not work for free, o god we got so mad, we paid them 2500 for them to rebuild our transmission and they do not do the job.

What I can do to get my money back or my car repairs done, I have 4 disable children and I need the car for transportation of my children to school and doctors appointments, 2500 was a 4 years of savings and a loan from my fiance

Can you help me

AAMCO Transmissions they stole my car and lied!

They gave me a bs estimate then tried to scam me out of $3500 in work that they said was done but the mechanic said had not yet started, they finished two weeks late then said it might not work, they finished at $700 over the estimate and only after a complaint to the BBB. Then they called us two weeks after the time agreed upon, and leaves us nasty messages on our voice mail and e-mail! Now he says to come get it but it sounds awful and is not guaranteed to work after putting in a brand new transmission... what?

AAMCO Transmissions I was scammed at aamco!

AAMCO charged me $100 to do a transmission fluid flush and I found out that they didn't do the work! After watching a YOUTUBE video of a News program's special report on Jiffy Lube scams and how they don't do the work that you pay for, I was very skeptical when i went to have my transmission fluid flushed. Before I brought it in I removed a small amount of transmission fluid for comparison. I dropped the car off for servicing and then picked it up when it was done. When I got home I took another sample of transmission fluid from the car and compared it to the old fluid, as well as a sample of new fluid directly from the bottle. Both samples from my car were identical and it was obvious that they didn't touch my car! I went back to the store the next day and confronted the owner, he persisted that the fluid was flushed and that he saw it being done. I told him i wanted a refund and he refunded my money right away. The fact that he was so quick to return my money makes me think that he realized he was caught and wanted to avoid being exposed any further.

I just found out that my truck that the mechanics were inspecting was used to take other customers home who had dropped off their cars. What the heck would have happened if they wrecked?

"What the heck would have happened if they wrecked?" The fabric of time and space would have ruptured and all life on Earth would have ceased to exist. Or every thing would go on as if nothing happened.

Join the "I've been ripped off by AAMCO club. They rebuilt the transmission in my Isuzu Trooper and it sounded terrible from the minute we drove it off the AAMCO property. They kept assuring us that nothing was wrong. Finally out of frustration, we took it to a dealer for a diagnostic and they told us the transmission was full of metal. At that point AAMCO, in Fredericksburg, VA, did the work again. Once again the transmission sounded broke from the second we drove off the lot. We kept taking it back to AAMCO, and they would drive it around and say, "We don't hear anything, but don't worry, if something does happen we'll take care of you." After months of this routine, we went back to the dealer and once again, they said the transmission needed rebuilding. However, at this point the original AAMCO repair is out of warranty and the AAMCO dealership told us to pound sand. Furthermore, the individual who told us the transmission was fine and that he would "take care of us" if it wasn't, has retired to New Mexico and the current management refuses to contact him or give us his phone number.

I guess there is a reason AAMCO only wanted to charge 1/2 of what the dealership wanted for the original repair.

I worked for AAMCO for years and never once ripped off a customer. A flush is such an easy job and I cannot imagine the center risking their reputation over a measly hunskie. It is well within the realm of possibility that the fluid could look the same after the flush was completed. The flush uses pressurization that can easily loosen particles that were not previously loosened which would in effect, cause the new fluid to immediately become discolored. AAMCO goes out of its way to protect its name. You cannot imagine what you must go through to obtain a franchise.

There are situations that when your transmission has high milage and you do a flush it can get dirty again due to clutches, internal parts moving and releasing some old fluid inside. I find it very hard to believe that AAMCO would want to just charge you $100 and not do the work. They have done a great job for me in the past and have a good reputation. If I was the owner I would have not given you back your money. Sounds like he just wanted to get rid of a troublesome customer.
