2006 Corvette Coupe Z51 / Squealing noise when apply the brakes
I purchased a 2006 Z51 corvette in Dec. 2005. When I purchased the car it was for a recreational vehicle. I only drive the car on weekend and on vacations. I have less then 10,000 miles on the car at this time.
My problem is the following:
After I purchased the vehicle I noticed a squealing noise when I would apply the brakes. When I called the dealer regarding this noise they told me it was normal for that type of brakes, high performance. Being a 1st time owner of a vette I took their word for it. The noise has since got worse so I took it to a Chevrolet dealer and they informed me that there is a bulletin out from Chevrolet regarding the breaks. It states that the types of brakes I have on my vette were put on 2005 & 2006 and because of the squealing they upgraded the 2007 Z51 brakes. The service department told me the only thing they could do is service the brakes by using Silicone Brake Lubricant, ACDelco P/N 89021537 which is the instructions from the bulletin. They serviced my car on Friday June 22 and by Sat. morning June 23 they were squealing again. When I called the dealer this morning June 25, 2007 to inform them the breaks were squealing again the service writer I have been dealing with just said he wasn't surprised. The dealer also states that the only way to fix the problem completely is to replace the brakes ($700.00 - $750.00) and that this cost would be my responsibility. The dealer gave me a number to call and discuss with Chevrolet [protected]. I was in contact with Erica San Juan & Thalia Maldonado on 6/21/07-6/22/07 and with Joan Francis and Kim Thomas on 6/25/07. They all told me that it was my problem and that the upgrade would not be covered by Chevrolet. I asked to be put in contact with the local GM representative and they told me there wasn't one, which I know is not true.
I feel that if the problem was recognized after the brakes were installed on 2005 & 2006 model corvettes and the upgrade was made in 2007 to correct the problem, they should upgrade the 2005 & 2006 in order to correct the problem just like they did for 2007.
I would appreciate any help in the manner or any advice on how to proceed. As a consumer I can not understand buying a vehicle for $60,000.00 and having to drive it with squealing brakes.
