Coleman Allied Moving and Storage was contracted to pack and move all our personal and household goods from our North Florida home to their Jacksonville, Fl. warehouse on May 30, 2021. Everything was to be stored there until our new home was ready. During the time that our goods were stored in the Coleman's warehouse for several months, which happened to be during the Florida rainy season, there was a leak in the roof above our stored goods. During that time our furniture and other personal goods were water damaged.
We had a confirmed date to deliver our goods on September 30, 2021 just after we closed on our house on September 29, 2021. When they prepared to load the van they found that our furniture had suffered considerable water damage.
They said there would be a delay to inspect our goods and the damage would need extensive remediation. Coleman kept extending the possible ship date several times. We closed on our new house on September 29, 2021 and my wife, myself and a small dog had no place to stay but in a hotel. That ended up being 75 days before our personal and house goods that were deemed acceptable by Coleman's remediation team was finally delivered on December 15, 2021.
We were very fearful of mold coming into our new home. We visited the Jacksonville warehouse on two different occasions and it was clear that a lot of our furniture was water damaged beyond repair and not fit to ship. They did not know how long our goods had been wet or even how many times the water had leaked through the roof and to what extent that had on our clothes, tv's, art, mattresses, etc. Initially Coleman offered $5,000.00 to rent or buy furniture until our goods could be delivered. We did not accept for a number of reasons: 1.) At that time of year in SE Florida you could not rent short term furniture. We did not know how long we would need it. 2.) We could not rent kitchen items and to buy would be a waste because we figured all our kitchen goods would be recoverable. 3.). When we asked about renting mattresses they told me they would be used, not new. 4.) Covid was still going on and it made more problems. 5.) We feared that if we accepted the $5,000.00 offer that would make it very difficult to settle a claim in the future considering the scope of the potential claim.
Coleman's claim department ( Eagle Claims Service) later came back and said they would be willing to pay $875.00 for 75 nights in hotel and $420.00 for 75 days of meals for two people. If you break that down that is $11.67 per night in hotel and it would cover $2.80 cents per person, per day for meals.
Our itemized claim was submitted for $19,597.00 which was for damaged furniture and less that one-half our out of pocket expenses for hotel and food. I have receipts for everything.
For months we have tried to communicate with "Eagle Claim Service". We have sent emails, registered mail, texts, emails, and phone calls but they have been non responsive. They just ignore all correspondence. By the way we paid for storage and insurance while in Jacksonville warehouse and took the maximum amount of insurance they offered.
I hope something can be done to settle this claim but I know it will never be close to what we lost just on the financial side.
Country of complaint: United States
Desired outcome: I would like to have the Eagle Claims Department to open communication and pay our claim.
