Chegg Would not work out rental extension

I ordered books for the Spring semester knowing I would also need the same books for the summer semester. When I received an email at the end of the semester stating, "If you want to extend your rental period, do nothing, and we will charge you the extension fee after 06-01-2012." Unfortunately, I thought this was telling me I could easily extend my rental fee for the next semester. The thought never crossed my mind that this email was strictly to extend the due date, especially for the amount they were charging. Why would I ever want to extend the due date? I always send my books back on time so to extend a due date was never something I even considered. So, when I was charged the 22.12 for one text and the 23.66 for the other text I thought I was set for the Summer semester. I was wrong, this morning my account was charged right at 300 for both books with the option to send the books back within 4 days from the date on the email and then I would get a refund. Yes, it was my mistake to assume the statement on the email meant something entirely different than the way I read it and I should have gone directly to the sight and not put my trust in an email from a reputable site. Anyway, I thought surely there would be no problem with this misunderstanding so I contacted customer service. They said they could do nothing and I would have to send the books back for a refund and re-order the books if I still needed them. I have been a customer for over 2 years and both of my children will be in college for the next 4 to 6 years. I have told countless people about Cheggs and have never had a problem until I actually needed them to help me. I asked them to simply allow me to extend my rental of the books which is exactly what I thought I was doing to begin with and then refund me the difference. I am shocked that they could not or would not do this type of service for a customer that has been using them for over 2 years. The school my children are attending now offer the option to rent books. Since I was a loyal customer with Cheggs, I never used this option. Starting this Fall, I will no longer use Cheggs but try the rental option with the school.

I, Anita Jackson, am writing to you because I was tolded by my log-in that I am not a human being. So, I have been able to use my books. The Complete Medical Scribe book that I have rented twice, and Health Unit Coordinator. The book # is GMIZOQCS expire 11-20-22.

I have been trying to contact Chegg by every avenue. Only to get customer service after a few days/or weeks. Just now I was able to get access to my account, then we got disconnected. I tried to log back in and was told again that I couldn't get access. This is a bad game of cat and mouse. Now, they want me to pay to extend my book that I can't use.

I don't think I should pay for this type of service. I am my own follow up person. So, I am writing to tell you that I will be giving them a -1000 points for their service. My e-mail address is Ajackson1427@outlook.com. I need to complete my studies. If I can't get any help, I will be forced to rent from someone else. Thank you, for taking time to read this request.

I understand there was some confusion over the email messaging regarding the extension period after the first charge. After the aforementioned messaging, the email also states the charges, the extension length, and the new due date. We understand that our due date reminders are aligned with other really big and busy dates so when we're contacted, we're more than happy to help accommodate any extension of your rentals as a courtesy to give you more quality time with your books. Moreover, you could have also kept the books after you were charged the purchase price, and returned them after you were done with your summer term for the full refund as well. I also am having this problem as well. I currently have TWO charges on my checking account $152 and $373! These are substantial amounts. I haven't used Chegg in nine months. I do want an explanation and depending on the reason and outcome I will never use Chegg again!

Chegg Very Poor Buyback Service

I sold a book to Chegg.com and UPS confirmed it was delivered on 12/28. On 1/4 Chegg's website said the book was still "in transit" so I contacted Chegg to which they said it was in processing and they would make a note on my account. On 1/6 the book was still "in transit" I contacted them again and they had no answer for why it had taken over a week for them to process the book and send me a check. The C/S representative was helpful though (I thought) and told me she would send a check and I would receive a confirmation email. By 1/9 I still hadn't received a confirmation email and the book I sold to Chegg was no long even on my account (on Chegg.com)! Fearing my book had gotten lost in their already sloppy process I contacted them for a third time. This time they told me a check was in process... still... and said that they couldn't resend a confirmation email for the check nor could re-post my book sale to my online account. Finally two business weeks later on 1/20 I received my check for the full amount. Though I got my money in the end, I sold another book to a similar site and received my money two weeks before Chegg.com. And what kind of business models enables a buyback to go from "in transit" (though they had it for over a week) to being deleted off an account before I received my check or even a confirmation of a check? I will not be using Chegg.com again and will be happy to tell others about my experience.

Chegg Rip off

CHEGG IS A RIPP OFF...THEY CHARGED ME $400 FOR BOOKS THAT WERE SENT BACK 3 DAYS AFTER THE 15 DAY GRACE AND I WAS TOLD THE CHARGES WOULD BE REVERSED BY ONE PERSON THEN WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT BY THE SUPERVISOR EVEN THOUGH MY DAUGHTER HAD WHAT MOST WOULD CALL EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES AND WAS NOT ABLE TO SEND THE BOOKS BACK ON TIME. WE CALLED TO TELL THEM THE SITUATION ON THE 22ND (1 DAY AFTER THE CHARGE) AND NO GRACE WAS GIVEN...HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE...WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN...

Chegg What In The Hell Just Happened?

So basically, I ordered three books from Chegg. They were supposed to arrive within 4 days. I am now at day 6. I received 1 book today. NOW LET ME BE CLEAR, I ORDERED THIS BOOK FROM CHEGG. But I recieved this book with an Amazon.com box and packing slip. The book has an invoice in it that contains a price I did not pay from a company I did not order from. So naturally, I logged into Chegg to see if they just do this sometimes (transfer books from other companies). Apparantly they do, but not from Amazon.com. Then I checked my order status'...Needless to say, Chegg claims I only ordered 1 book...a different one from the one I received. But guess what? I was charged for all three books. SO I ONLY HAVE ONE BOOK, FROM THE WRONG COMPANY, WITH THE WRONG PRICE, AND I WAS CHARGED FOR THREE. Someone explain what the hell just happened because quite honestly I'm too confused to make excuses for what could have gone on.

Chegg Undelivered Books

Where are my books? I made an order on Suday August 7, 2011 and I still have not recived them. According to chegg, the books were delivered and UPS's delivery proof states that they were left with "Customer Lady" at 1:07 pm on August 10, 2011. The problem is that I don't know who the customer lady is - I live alone. Where are my books CHEGG?

If you still haven't located "Customer Lady, " just contact Chegg and they will send you another while they take care of tracking the first one. Just be sure to double check that your shipping address is correct.

Chegg Terrible Customer Service

A year ago I returned a book to Chegg that I had actually bought from another vendor. I realized this as soon as the shipment went out, so called Chegg customer service to ask that the book be returned to me. I spoke to three customer service reps (and I use the term loosely), who said that they would look into it. The book was never returned, nor did I receive credit. I let this go because how much time can one spend on repeat calls to the same company? I was willing to let it go, but I just received two emails from Chegg telling me that two other books, which I should not have returned to them were going to be considered as donations because I did not contact them within 30 days of receiving them. Here's the thing: I screwed up on that. Frankly I didn't realize that they had been Chegg purchases rather than rentals. However, why didn't Chegg email me about my error immediately, letting me know that I had the option of having the books returned? They waited five months before alerting me that I could have requested a return within 30 days of sending the books to them. But here's the thing: When I did alert them about a book, nothing was done to return the book or offer me credit. So I called Chegg. My customer service rep told me that there was nothing that could be done because too much time had passed. After a dissatisfying 10 minutes with him, I asked to speak to a supervisor. When "Jerry" came on, he told me that he could give me credit for the two books because they had waited so long to alert me. Just as I was asking about credit for the original book I had called about (which Chegg has had the opportunity to rent out twice), the line disconnected. I called back and of course could not get back to "Jerry." My new customer service rep went to her supervisor fairly quickly, came back on the line to tell me about crediting my account, but somehow we were disconnected when I asked about my original book. I had given her my name and phone number, but I have not received a call from her. Frankly I'm fine with not receiving the Chegg credit because I will never rent another book from them. You shouldn't either.

Chegg Left at the front door. HA!

I ordered some text books from chegg.com and paid for expedited shipping. Well that was on the 13th today is the 18th and still no books. According to them they were left at the front door. Just a problem with that. I was at home all day long and was actually outside at the time they claim to have left my textbooks at the door. And I guess the other issue i have with that is that why wouldn't you knock on the door first? And all they can do is say sorry and contact the merchant while my hundred dollar books float around on some brown truck are where ever they are because I tell ya they were not delivered. Plus i have two dogs that would have went crazy if someone was in the driveway lead along the porch.

Chegg Poor Service

I am never ordering from Chegg again. They never sent me a book that I ordered, two weeks later I notified them, all they did was give me back my money. They did nothing to make it right. I went 2 weeks in class without the book. AND! Most places will send you a reminder email that your books are due. NOT CHEGG! They charged me over 30.00 for an extention fee! Holy SHIZ! You think they could give me a break, I have given them lots of money over the years. I found a website called textbookrentals.com and they give you a FREE 15 day grace period after your books are due. They also send you a packet to easily send your books back, no printing out anything. I'm not trying to advirtise for anyone, but when you compare them, Chegg is unholy.

Chegg misleading

WARNING! Do not ever rent from chegg.com. I rented from them plenty of times but will never do so ever again. I rented a book from them and needed it for a few more weeks. They sent me an email stating that they will automatically extend my rental for 15 days. On day 16 they charged me 180.00 for the book without even consulting with me prior to. They never stated that after the 15 days that would happen leaving one to assume that every 15 days you simply get charged another 17.00. WRONG! After calling customer service they said they cannont refund my money and all I could do was sell it back for 30.00! This is ridiculous! I asked to speak with a manager and was told Id receive a call back in1-3 business days. They do not know the concept of a having a true relationship or buliding rapport with their consumers. If I do not get reimbursed I will NEVER EVER do business with them again and ensure everyone understands why.

i rented 4 books from chegg.com
i was not finished with them so they charged me another late fee of $20 for an extra 15 days which was fine. i did'int have a chance until the 15th day to return my books and thought they would charge me another $20 but this time they charged me $150 to purchase the books I called the company the lady who i spoked to really did'int have any idea how to help me and she basically said there is nothing we can do but you can sell your books back. worst case scenario i said fine but how much would they give me. she walked me through this and i found out that the books that i spent around $250 for they said they would give me $8.00 for all four books. i asked to speak to a manager and she said he has to call me back i am Still waiting on this phone call.i am completely dissatisfied. hopefully the better business bureau can help.CAQ

Seems you didn't return the book by the due date? They do offer extensions that you could have purchased and not just wait to be charged. Seems to me you were not responsible enough. I return my books by the due date and never had a fee charged. Lesson learned then... be more responsible.

Chegg Payment for Books

Please spare yourself the indigestion and heartache by not using Chegg.com for any services relating to textbooks. You'll be sorely disappointed if you do. The entire business seems to run amuck, noone knows who's in charge, and their customer service is abosolutely atrocious.
I sold 3 textbooks to them (mailed all three in 1 package) and I received payment for only one textbook...after 3 weeks. That didn't bother me much, but when i didn't I didn't receive payment for the other two textbooks (nor anything relating to them receiving the books), I began to inquire further. I made 7 phone inquiries, 2 IM messages, and 2 emails on several different occasions. Finally, someone was able to tell me where my books (and money) were at. Hmm...now what kind of customer service is that?

Needless to say, I went to another company, and was generally pleased with their services. Lastly, it took Chegg.com 2 months to finally send me payment for my other two books (NOTE: I received 3 forms of payments for 1 shipment of books...1 check and 2 debit cards...now how efficient is that? Not!) Use them if you dare...but I'd rather give my books away than to trust them again.

Chegg Misleading advertising

Be careful ordering with chegg.com
I needed to extend a book because the semester ends after the due date (a trap).
When I was ordering, the site said the book is automatically extended if your semester ends past the due date. What they don't say is there's an extension fee of $12 or more depending on the book & the length of extension. After adding the extension fee, it's almost the same cost as buying the book used somewhere.

Problems with customer service could mean they are tired from getting so many complaints.

I wish I Googled for reviews on chegg before renting. There are many negative & a few positive ones. The first one that pops up is at campusgrotto.com & seems to be an ad instead of a real customer review. Ask yourself why a company would need to do something like that.

Chegg does not offer good shipping, unless you order your textbooks about a month ahead of time, which isn't always possible. When my daughter tried to order a textbook she was given a shipping time of over two weeks - almost three with no expediting options at all. The customer service technician was no help at all and really knew nothing about shipping nor would ask anyone above her. It was bizarre. The college bookstore was able to expedite for us but it was quite a bit more expensive for the book as they didn't have any used copies left and we had to go new. Chegg gives no shipping info on their website at all and you have no idea how they ship. They need to work on this. They also need to educate their customer service representatives.

I sent Chegg.com two textbooks in early December. I was told on the website that I would be receiving a refund around $70. My husband mistakenly sent the books via USPS instead of UPS. I called a few days later to see if this was going to be a problem. The man on the phone told me it would not be, but they we may not be able to be reimbursed for the shipping costs. I said that was fine and asked about the status of our order. He told me they had received the books and would be sending me an email within a couple days to explain different methods of obtaining my payment. I never received an email.

A couple weeks go by and I call again to ask about my payment. This time the man tells me the computer has no record of receiving anything and if someone had told me before they must've "Been looking at the wrong screen". I have a really hard time believing this since the man told me the names of the books I sent in! I was told a supervisor would look into the issue and call me back.

The next day I received a call saying they never received my book and if I have a problem I should contact USPS, because Chegg never received my books AFTER THEY ADMITTED TO ME THE FIRST TIME THAT THEY DID!

They are theives. I'm a young mother in college with an autistic child and Chegg has stolen from me and there is nothing I can do. I cannot prove that they received the books and they are claiming they did not have a recorded conversation from where the first sales person admitted to receiving the books. My hands are tied and I am out $70.

Shortly after writing this compliant, I filed one with the BBB. The contact then between us then became solely in the form of emails back and forth through the BBB. Chegg initially responded by saying they would be happy to work through this with me, but were still denying ever receiving my textbooks. I responded back and asked why then a Chegg representative admitted to me over the phone they had received them and from there contact was halted. They never responded and the dispute is still unsettled with the BBB after 9 months.

I rented books during the spring semester '09-'10. I received my books without any problems. However, I sold two books at the end of the semester and opted for a credit. When I decided to rent books for the winter semester I could not find the credit. I was told my books were not logged in. After three months? Are you kidding me? I told them I would not support their company any longer and I would do my best to steer college students away from them. I don't have the books, money, or credit to put toward new books that I need.

Hey really? I had a problem with them and they were able to fix the issue for me so quickly. The lady who fixing my account has called me right on time each time she said so.. Chegg Service is terrible

I rented one book from Chegg.com in August 2009. It is now September and I still haven't received the book. I chatted online with customer service reps and the first one was helpful, he refunded shipping and promised it would be shipped via one day air. Aprox two days due to time of day. Well, I didn't recieve my book like promised so I chatted with another rep. She is terrible. She doesn't respond to me. Tells me there is no tracking information available and tells me that a supervisor has taken care of my order. Doesn't apoligize or anything. I spoke with her supervisor and he tells me that he is going to overnight it so that I get it the next day. I didn't recieve until monday the following week. They did refund my money, but they still wanted the book back. DO NOT RENT FROM CHEGG.COM THEY ARE NOT TRUST WORTHY. Spend the few extra dollars from amazon or textbookrus or something. It's worth it. You will get it on time.

I am very disappointed at chegg. I pay my money for homework help and many of the questions are not there. Many solutions are incorrect as well. There are also comments on the questions that clearly show that the questions have mistakes in them, but chegg does not do anything to change it. I am very disappointed in chegg's Maintenance.

Agreed.

When I first rented from Chegg I received my order a week later than it should have arrived. I received no refund and little sympathy from their CSR. However, much of the blame in this case lied upon UPS as I recall even telling Chegg's CSR that they should switch to a more reliable, perhaps non-union, shipping provider.

I did just order a book though for my Summer class... Unhappy. I placed the order over the weekend and with the summer class being so quick I opted for the 2nd Day Air believing to have it no later than Wednesday as even estimated by Chegg. Monday rolls around and my order hadn't shipped. It didn't ship until Tuesday. Entirely unacceptable. Whether I upgraded my shipping or not my order should've been sent on the first business day following after the time my order had been placed. This time I wanted a refund as the blame lies solely upon Chegg and their CSR refused stating they do not issue shipping refunds until after the estimated arrival date passes and the order was not delivered. Sounds fair so I can't argue despite the fact UPS themselves estimate the arrival a day later.

So the next day I contact CSR again and am promised a refund. Assuming that goes through I am satisfied though it does bother me that Chegg doesn't make their CSR more accessible and provide email.

My one complaint though with Chegg beyond all this: Returns. Chegg promises no-hassle, free, full refund returns when looking at their site for the first time. However, that is not true. The original shipping cost is not refunded (reasonable) but then they also deduct $5 from your refund (unreasonable). I'm going to be contacting their CSR yet again to ask about this and then dispute with my American Express as their site makes no mention of this $5 deduction from the refund pointblank, only when searching through their "Help" is this mentioned and well, who really has the time to go looking?

Very unhappy with Chegg. Nice website, great idea but their false advertising and slow-to-ship employees/policy/(Who or what ever is to blame) destroys everything they could be.

Won't be ordering from them again. Rather pay for a new book then deal.

You know what? You lie still. You posted this 126 days ago. You claim that your team has set the bar much higher than before. It is now the year of 2010 and you still provide horrible customer service. That "bar" you've set must have been really ###ing low in the first place. It must have been deep underground before. Because you've ripped me off, I am $100+ short in my bank account and yet three of your agents claim that chegg has never taken the money away.

You've called me a liar and my bank a liar. I hope justice keeps up with you. I hope you get what you deserve coming. You will be hearing from the police soon, and you'll be hearing from my lawyer soon. And for what? 100 measly dollars.

Without being able to look at your order, it looks like there might have been some reason why we had to issue your refund: the book wasn't actually available with one day shipping, the book being ordered was an International Version rather than a North American version... clearly, something went very wrong and communication with you was handled poorly, and obviously you should have never been promised something we couldn't deliver..

If you can include information you used when placing the order, we can look into the matter and see why this was mishandled and see what we can do to make things right. We care about each of our customers and want to be an asset in their academic careers, and we're don't want to see you slip through the cracks if there's some way we can reach out which would better represent our company and mission.

Chegg Charged Sales Tax

I have used Chegg in the past and have had no issues. I live in Delaware, one of the 5 US states where sales tax is not changed. I order 3 books this Fall 09 semester and after checkout I noticed I was changed $2.12 for sales tax. I called the customer service number and after being placed on hold three times for about ten minutes total I was told they were refunding the $2.12. If you live on one of the sales tax free states make sure you call to get your money back!

chegg.com quoted me that my almost new textbook is worth $16.92 so I printed out their prepaid postage and shipped them my book! Now they email me that the book was received and are only willing to send me a check for $12.72! chegg.com is doing a Fraudulent Practice!

Chegg Horrible Customer Service

Chegg.com used false advertising to induced me to click on their site in the first place. The low price of book rental stated in their Google ad was false-- the lowest price on Chegg.com was $73.47 and NOT the $22.56 advertised.

When I clicked for live customer service, the answers were absolutely stupid and horrible. It is like an automated system that does not comprehend English. AND, in order to contact their customer service via email you must first establish an account with chegg. Forget that. I'm posting my complaint here and sending this link to their "press room" ([protected]@chegg.com). What an utter joke of a company.

Im new to college and already having problems. Cheggs tells me in 8 days I need to return their books. Ok.
But why does it say I have PAYED FOR THEM AND THAT THEY ARE MINE? MINE TO KEEP? I tried customer service and got crap cant even enter the chat. Go to Ups.com and print off a ship free slip cant do that so Im going to get charged anyway. Cant find one of the slips for the book AND THE BOXES! For God's sake. I jsut printed off everything in the return section If I didnt have one of the slips to the books at least Id be screwed because unlike all other websites, you cant find their return address anywhere I am deleting my account screw it. I Had to find another box to ship the crap in and I gurantee that Im going to get ### for it. I am on the verge of starting a god damned riot. Its bad enough colleges like to do crap that you don't even need and try to enroll you in insurance and crap like that to get every dime out of you. This site doesn''t tell you what anything is and I will never order form here again. I GURANTEE THAT. I should have just bought the crap upfront!

I rented a book from Chegg and now I'm trying to get on the site so I can return it because I have to print it from the internet, and the site wont open. it keeps telling me the link is broken... Is there any other way to get a hold of this site cause I have nothing and I dont want to end up getting charged for the book.

Chegg.com is horrible. Their information listed is FALSE. They mislead you. Their customer service is HORRIBLE. I reached them three times for a problem I was having with confusing and incorrect information on their listings, to no avail. They still have no addressed this problem, after weeks and weeks of notifying them.

Avoid Chegg.com at all costs. It's not worth having shaky shipping, unreliable service, and HORRIBLE customer service. I would never, ever, ever pay Chegg.com anything again, EVER.

Chegg Never refunded my money!

I placed an order on August 29, 2008. Most of my books arrived in a timely fashion, but a book for a class that I had dropped took over two weeks to arrive. I sent the book back the day after I received it, which was September 19th. I was told that my refund would take a few weeks to process, so I waited until November 9th to contact them. I did not receive a response, so I contacted them again on November 19th. November 20th, I received an email saying my refund has been processed, and should be reflected on my credit card account in 3-4 business days. My statement indicated I never received the refund. I contacted Chegg again on December 23rd, and was told that they never processed the refund, and that they would have to mail a check, which they planned to mail on Monday December 29th. I contacted them again on January 5th, and now they say it will take a few weeks. I have no job, and I really need the $60. They have been unapologetic, and nobody seems to care. I have been late on my car payment, and I was $50 short. Now I have $40 in late fees, which I would not have incurred if Chegg had processed my return two months ago, when the said they would.

All you need to do is contact one of the Chegg Student Advocates and they would be able to give you account information about your refund status. Refunds are automatically given for orders that have been returned within the refund window of 21 days from when the order was placed. even if it's a few days after the refund window, they're really helpful!

I was referred to this servise, but am contacting the Better business bereau because i rented the books, then returned them in a timely fashion. My $200 refunded was NEVER credited to my account! It has been over two months and am STILL chasing my refund, the are FALSE ADVERTISERS and take your FULL money and do not return a credit hoping you will not notice! BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!
