Century Communities - New home construction

Hello, We've been trying to get someone to call us back about a situation... can you help? We've been dealing with Taylor Prell but she has told us she is in a very bad situation with her divorce, her kids, the cops being called on her last week and having to move in her personal life. She screamed at us yesterday when we told her we wanted to cancel and...

Century Communities - Unresolved warranty items

My warranty items have not been resolved. On the homeowner portal warranty items are listed as completed and they are not. Of the unresolved items, the major issue is with the HVAC system. I called and left a voicemail on 8/30/2023. Angela Green returned my call and gave promises over the phone for repairs and copies of work order history and the vent...

Century Communities Warranty issues

This is in regards to my new home in Los Banos CA. Ill start off with the purchase of my home which was a good experience, everyone was nice. Apart from that, within the first to second week of moving in which is almost a year from now, one of my bathtubs got a leak and is still leaking till this day. It was reported to the person in charge along with a board missing from my closet and a baseboard that is slanted in my other bathroom that we did not notice at inspection. My sprinkler system covers are falling off my ceiling. My patio door handle is hanging on by a thread, I have to use a bar to keep my door closed and from nobody getting in. My roof had a leak in the kitchen, which was the only thing that actually got fixed. My husband has called the person in charge numerous numerous times and has mentioned that they don’t work weekends. Me and my husband work and cannot be asking for days off to accommodate the workers. I see the workers on Saturdays numerous of times working on homes. They may think that these things are not important, but they are to us. They have to accommodate us. I have put work orders in for all of these things mentioned on May 30, 2023. We got an email around June 8th to call and make an appt. Well they are ignoring phone calls that are being made for an appt. One example, my husband called last week on a Mon. and did not get a response till Thurs of that week only to say they are on vacation. We are getting nothing but the run around. It has almost been a year since we moved in nothing but the ceiling has gotten fixed. We bought a brand new home that is literally falling apart. But still nothing has gotten fixed. Extremely frustrated and angry! Update: the warranty manager just let us know that because we submitted claims, he can know do nothing, the warranty office has to email him then make an appt. He is now the middle man! This is ridiculous. I have been calling the office to try to speak to someone. No one ever answers. I’ve left countless messages .At this point in time I will not recommend these homes to anyone. Buyers please beware; really look through your home before moving forward! This is the worst experience ever! And the worst warranty company ever, all these people care about is selling homes and making profit.

Century Communities Refusal to complete purchased home

We are very disappointed by the refusal of Century Communities to complete our home as it was presented in all advertising literature, websites, and the models. I believe it is quite reasonable to expect that in paying over $729,000 for a home, the front of the house would be finished, steps would be provided at large drop-offs, and a usable backyard would be present. This constitutes a misrepresentation on the part of Century Communities in my opinion.

•The plot was level at the time of contracting the house. Upon final inspection we find that the back yard is nothing but a ditch and virtually unusable. The yards could have been graded out and away from the housing without swales.

•Stopping the masonry facing 31"above ground level just looks stupid (the term used by visitors and neighbors). This is not a"minor variance". We were told we could hire the contractor and pay to have it finished ourselves. If that is so, why can't you?

•The front railing may meet code because there is a landing step, but it is not safe. Since you have to completely replace the front steps anyway, why not just add 2ft of railing when you do that?

•The back patio is 22 inches off the ground with no steps. How does that make sense to anyone? I realize Century Communities has done this to all the customers in this neighborhood but that does not make it right.

It appears that Century is out to cut corners wherever it can. This was evident early on when we saw the overpriced and cheaply made options and I had to spend $5000 the first week for additional insulation just to get the indoor temperature up to 70 degrees. It seems that everything changes after the customer provides a down payment, signs a contract and sells their previous home (as required by Century).

It should be noted that the neighbors I have spoken with all feel much the same as we do. The neighborhood reps are fine, but they are not allowed to make things right. No one would build their own house this way.

Desired outcome: Finish the work we paid for.

Century Communities Quality of construction bad

We cancelled our contract with Century Communities because the work was not good and they did not want to fix it before we bought it. Cracked tub/wall, cracked windows and 2x4 & 2x6 lumber cracked in half. This is pre dry wall inspection. We decided not to but more money towards a bad situation and cancelled the contract. What is upsetting is we had to give them our earnest money. Not a small amount of money.

Century Communities Warranty issues

we closed in September 2022. first in neighborhood. 5th new home and still this builder completely blew us away with poor workmanship, quality control and excuses. even though we were diligent in our pre orientation walk (punch list), we have now realized this builder does not honor nor care that they deliver an incomplete home. this is a community wide practice, not painting exterior garage doors, unfinished and filthy conditions and failure to complete punch list. we have filed warranty issues with no less than two different persons as directed. they do a great job of denying and shifting blame so that you have no recourse. we have emails to confirm these claims. Our carpets are stained, after we requested they cover them when installed prior to closing(6weeks late). the carpet was cleaned on the day of closing with resolve carpet cleaner only to return several days later.(glue from the installers carpet pad installation). our bathroom tub is cracked inside and out and am told "century has no way of holding installers responsible", our hvac system had several duct tubes unfastened and cooling the attic. sucking attic insulation into system and blowing out of vents days before closing. was assured that it was fixed and would receive a vent cleaning coupon to eliminate insulation particles, still blowing into home, to this day. our sales agent Lori and supervisor Eric have both confirmed this in writing and ultimately reneged. So i guess century has no quality control over their contractors. shifting blame . During construction phase we were continually e-mailing our sales agent Lori S, with problems. these were all ignored with the excuse "quality control will address them prior to closing", they were never addressed by the construction supervisors, of which they are on there 3rd new person, only to be handed to Mario then Brandon with absolutely negative results. these people have created a hostile environment in our community by vilifying us as difficult. Century claims they are one of the top 10 quality builders on there website, yet have failed to remedy our warranty claims and have insinuated that we created these issues. just yesterday we realized that the builder failed to install the pest control Taexx system and was once again told that oops!, not all homes get this system, even though both the models have this system and the current homes being built thru out the community have this system. yet another quality control of a complete home. Century has discriminated against us, as we had requested several upgrades, during the construction phases that would still make it possible, we were willing to pay for and were flat out denied. yet current home purchasers are being afforded these changes.

Desired outcome: century need to remove and replace the broken tub. replace the owners suite carpet(cleaning will not remove the glue, we have tried. century also needs to honor their duct cleaning coupon and reimburse us for the lack of the Taexx system.

Century Communities New Home Build

As they say -

You can have Good, Cheap, Fast; pick two. Well, with Century it is only one: cheap!

Contract states 6 months to build. It has been a year and the property is still not finished.

Three different times the builder had to move the closing with no communication because the build was not finished.

You are much better just buying a manufactured home than purchasing this garbage of a "house."

Desired outcome: At this point, I just want the property finished and never speak to this organization again.

Century Communities Century Communities

What's the purpose of having a warranty on your new home if no one comes to do any repairs. Century Communities waves the warranty on the house like it's a piece of gold. It's not worth the paper its on. In San Antonio their favorite line is " the warranty covers the home bumper to bumper". Make them show you the bumpers on the home you are buying. It has been less then 30 days and we've had 4 major issues. right now we are seating in a 85 degree home. waiting on the a/c to be fixed. The home they build seems to be build by unskilled people.

Desired outcome: I paid for a new home i would like it to be that. not a used home with new paint and sod.

I am with you I closed Dec. 2021 in Jan. 2022 discovered 2nd floor was sinking and it took them 7 mos. to even come and start to do anything. The very first thing they tried to do was blame me that i was watering to much, when I moved in my entire front yard on the left side was nothing but a big mud hole as well as the back yard. When I transfered the water into my name the water company asked me if I had sprinklers, I said yes she told me not to use them because I wasn't going to like the bill. I talked to one of my neighbors and they did not tell. him this, his first water bill was 800. They sent some yo yo out and he tried to tell me it was founation issue but anyone who has a brain in thier head knows it wasn't a settling issue because there was no issue on the 1st floor, ceils, walls or floor the whole problem is on the 2nd floor only. I live in this house with just me and 2 little dogs. So there isn't a issuse of lot of people in the house. They are still tring to fix the 2nd floor going ove a year and half later.

Century Communities Warranty work

I’ve submitted several warranty claims against my house to Century Communities starting at the beginning of 2022. They closed two out of 10 issues but nothing else. Outstanding Issues are:

1. Back yard doesn’t drain properly

2. Outside paint on caulking cracking. I contacted paint vendor and they said it wasn’t properly cured/painted

3. Interior cabinets poorly put together (gaps), peeling paint, gouges

4. Rusting around windows exterior

5. Back door sticks and window leaks

6. Exterior fireplace screen has a rip

7. Wood floors creaking

8. Exterior wood siding loose

I reported this to BBB. I will post this to every place possible.

Desired outcome: I want these problems fixed.

Century Communities Window Treatment Violation

I was issued a violation for window treatments that have been in the home since I purchased the home Nov. 2019. It is now 2021 and I am now being issued a violation. The home was purchased without blinds and I choose to put up curtains. The by laws states that the curtains must have a white or beige backing. Of the windows in the front of my home, 3 do not have a white or beige backing. My issues is that after a years and 2 months, you are now serving me with a violation and threatening to fine me if the violation is not rectified. How can Century Communities tell a homeowner what type of window treatment is acceptable?

Desired outcome: I want to keep my window treatments.

Century Communities warranty related work

During the build process and closing on our new home in Canton, GA we received outstanding service. However, now that we have gotten to the Warranty items no one seems to care what gets done or doesn't get done. You have contractors that could care less if your work gets done or not. The scheduling on Warranty items is a disaster from beginning to end. We were told to get our Warranty issues in by a certain date, which we did back in April, it is almost the end of July and we still don't have items done. This is beyond ridiculous! We made your Warranty folks aware that we were going to have a house full of guests from out of town for a birthday celebration and that we needed the inside painting done before they arrived, guess what we are still waiting. It was quite embarrassing to have my walls all covered with white patches and blue tape everywhere. It seems like Warranty work is the last thing on your contractors plate and therefore they take their sweet time in fixing anything, wait what am I saying they just don't flat show up when the appointment is scheduled for and don't call to let you know they are not coming.

The 2nd and very large issue to us is that during our walk through we did not notice how many broken stones there are on our front porch. And we didn't notice them until after the Warranty period was up. We couldn't believe that you would allow your contractors to put in these stones, they clearly knew they were bad but put them in anyway. This is not a real good advertisement for Century Communities, you can't even get your own contractors to do things right the first. It looks hideous and every person who walks up our sidewalk to the front door sees it and knows it is a crappy job. We've asked your Warranty department to give us the name of the contractor that put the stones in so that we could work something out with him to replace them and bill us, since we are past the Warranty period and your people have made it clear that we are beyond the Warranty period. Which we think is wrong...you should pay to fix this, not us, it was shoddy workmanship from the word go. But I guess if we have to pay, we'll have to pay. We have yet to be given name and number so we can work with the contractor to fix.

Your Warranty process/program is pretty much non-existed as far is we are concerned. You sell us a home and then disappear. We love our home but the Warranty part is sorely lacking in schedule integrity, etc. I'm hoping that after this compliant you will be a little more responsive and monitor your contractors and make sure they meet the schedules, we can't sit around all day for someone who doesn't call and doesn't come. We do have a life.

Century Communities false advertisement, fixing issues

We are a military family with special needs children. We sold our home in Washington state and drove to GA to close on our home at the end of November.

The purchase started out with false advertisement. They promised certain incentives if we prequalified through their preferred lender. Once prequalified within the same day, the incentives were no longer available and they would not honor them. Then agent pushed us off on another agent in a new community.

We spoke with the manager and she would not assist us. Whe then went with the home in the neighborhood we were pushed off to. We asked for all the included features, aerial views of the home, EVERYTHING pertaining to the home prior to purchasing. It's like the agents were taught to deter, avoid, deceive, false advertise etc.

We were told there would be a 12x12 patio and deck with the "bells & whistles". They assured us this home was the one for us. They said there was a small hill in the yard and we could extend past the black border. They ensured everything was on track for closing.

We continued to ask for different views of the home throughout the process, we'd get the same angels. They kept swift thing agents who were unfamiliar with the home, so the questions or request were unanswered. 3 days before scheduled closing, they canceled anything scheduled pertaining to our home the day before it was due ( while driving to ga). We were scheduled to closed Nov 29th.

We got in town Nov 27th. The home was not ready. After viewing the home, we realized the home was not only a safety hazard for our children, it was not what we expected. Not only were we not allowed to choose anything for the home, they did not tell us about the unsafe cliff/ravine in the backyard and hills they created (made worse) in the back and front of the home.

After speaking with the agents and same manager, they remained nonchalant and still refuse to fix the issues. What ever happened to satisfying the buyer? They'd rather walk away from a sell than fix the issues. The exterior design is hideous compared to the neighborhood scheme also.

They painted over water damage I. The bathroom ( have video footage). We were told that there would be all hardwood flooring down stairs, yet there's carpet in the family room as well. We are living in a hotel that is becoming expensive.

We've done every thing asked of us yet the company will not budget for us. We are pretty much homeless in limbo! You'd think they'd be sensitive to our needs.. No, even the build walked out while explaining our issues.

Must've not been important to him. Things to be fixed
1. The uneven hills and patchy grassin the front and back yard
2. The unsafe ravine/ cliff in back yard (w/o putting a fence through the middle our backyard)
3.Change the exterior brick color to a similar color to match neighborhood scheme.
4. Remove carpet in family room.
5.Add the 12x12 patio as promised by sales agent
6.Remove water damaged baseboards

IF THIS CANT BE DONE, FIND A HOME IN A LEVEL 3 OR BETTER NEIGHBOHOOD WITH THE SAME BELLS AND WHISTLES AS CURRENT HOME.SAME OR MORE SQFT ON A BASEMENT.

Century Communities warranty work for client

To whom it may concern,

I am submitting a complaint on behalf of my client. We closed on a home in Littleton Village, Colorado back on July 28th. When we had the final walk through, the gentleman who did the blue tape walk through with us earlier and guaranteed "the work would be completed on or before closing, and even if it wasn't completed by then, there was still the 30 days guarantee to complete work after closing" still has yet to be completed. It is now November 4th, 3 months after closing, and my client still has half of the initial items on this list yet to be addressed. She has gone this whole time without a functioning Master Bathroom, which is appalling. Whenever a subcontractor comes by, they state that your company will only pay them for 8 hours of work and there is clearly more work that needs to be done and cannot be completed in that time frame.

I am curious what you are doing about this as a company?

I am mainly writing because this is appalling to know that I have helped my client and she is miserable and unhappy with her purchase because she cannot even enjoy the home that she worked so hard for. I am amazed that there is a lack of genuine care and concern about these issues and why it is so hard to get the work that was guaranteed to be done finished? I would really appreciate some sense of urgency from your company seeing as we are ALL in a business to make our clients happy.

She and I would really just appreciate it if the work that is supposed to be completed be finished by your company as promised.

For your reference, my clients name is [removed] and the address is 644 E. Hinsdale Ave, Littleton CO 80122.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and with a resolution.

Sincerely,

Meghann Rybkowski

Century Communities unethical behavior/lies

Please see the email listed below. I think it says it all.

Good Evening,
That time frame doesn't work with either of our schedules. Please send all updates via email so here is a verifiable paper trail.
With that said, I would like to note that according to Mecklenberg public records the house failed the inspection as of today the 29th of August. This is the second verifiable failed inspection noted for framing. Per our conversation last week another inspection was ordered that had also failed but that record is not verified in public records. We have conveyed many times that we do not want any drywall installed until it passes both the county inspection and our own personal inspection. We have yet to order our inspection due to the delays with passing the county inspection. I am not sure why this keeps happening but I would think the needed repairs would be fixed the first time.
Another point I would like to stress is the lack of response in regards to the appraised value coming in lower than the purchase price. I have conveyed to all parties that this puts us in a financial situation where we would have to come up with an additional $6, 600.00. We do not have these funds available. I have asked all parties to absorb some of this to make the deal work. Michele stated to me more than once that she would bring it up to the closing coordinator and get back to us. Nobody has responded with any updates in regards to helping. I have no control over the value and feel it's very unfair that I am the only one expected to cover the whole shortage. We need to hear something in regards to this either good or bad because it affects the financing. If there is no help forth coming we would like to know if the original offer made by Mike McLendon to return our escrow deposit and cancel the deal is still available.
The numerous delays and miscommunications have resulted in additional living and moving expenses which has made it difficult to save any additional money for this transaction. When the contract was signed in January of 2017 we were told it would be a four to six months building time and now we are at September-nine months later and the house hasn't passed the inspection that is needed to have drywall installed. This leaves us with great uncertainty that the finishings will not be done in a timely manner or correctly. Which will cause more delays.
It seems like an endless circle of mistakes and delays. We would like that all parties be professional and take responsibility for their part. Accurate communication is key to any successful business transaction. Please let me know if I have been unclear. I look forward to hearing positive responses.

Century Communities warranty issues/buyers ignored

We bought our century home sept, 26, 2016. After purchasing the home, we were told to call the companies themselves (plumbers, electricians, etc.) for problems, and not the builder.
The home they built next to ours is only 9 feet away their sprinklers water our house and yard and the drainage is poor. Also, our sprinklers were placed outside our fence on the north side we were told "to water the grass" around the mailboxes.
When we complained to the sprinkler co., the man stated he needed approval to change the oversized heads between the houses, and would move the heads around the mailboxes only if century approved it. The foreman for century stated"all the houses are built the same & you are the only ones that complain" several calls & e-mails and 5 months later, nothing has been done. No response to our calls or e-mails last 2 months. Why do we have to water the part of the property that is not ours, & especially around the mailboxes? If someone falls? We do not want our brick discolored either with other's watering. The issue could be resolved if the sprinkler heads that are watering our house would be changed to a smaller size as suggested by the installer, and the line of sprinklers outside our property and around the mailboxes capped (7). I have e-mails but unable to forward at this time thank-you, mr.&mrs ms, [protected]

Century Communities construction

May 30th 2016 - austin texas - reagans overlook

If you are looking to purchase a century communities home in austin - stop now.

We decided to build a custom home and found a great cul de sac lot in september 2015. We went to their office selected our model, signed a contract and paid a deposit and were anxious to begin building our dream home. A home which was jointly designed by my wife and 17 year old which we hoped to move into as promised on july10th of this year, so she had a full year in her dream home before she went to college next year.

In october our century agent told us how lucky we were because century had increased base prices by 70k on all models and we had "gotten in right before the increase" - we had a contract with the correct price dated september 30th.in december we signed final placement of the plot plan and were told we are ready to build your home.

In february I asked when is the foundation going down we just invested more than $10, 000 to upgrade our existing home before we listed and wanted to see progress before listing. We were told at that time we needed to sign another contract which "removed the contingency for selling our home" we did so as we were anxious to get moving and were told "permits are being issued to begin our home" on february 20th.

In early march I drove thru the development to see 6 new foundations poured 3 on contract custom homes and 3 on spec homes, one of the spec houses was on the lot directly adjacent to ours, is 975 sq feet smaller than our house with awful upgrades and listed for completion on july 10th for $155, 000 above the final price detailed in our september contract.

At this point I was upset and asked to speak to a supervisor who did not return phone calls emails or meeting requests for 3 more weeks, so I asked for a meeting with the divisional vp, which I got, he apologized over and over and promised me he was going to make sure our home was build asap and that he had fired the supervisor in question. Well... All they did was move her to another austin development - lie #1.

He then referred us to the area vp who met with us apologized profusely and said his "sales team dropped the ball" then he asked to sign a final final contract which proved our home $47, 000 more than our september contract, we went crazy and upon review he said "his sales agent made a mistake" - lie #2

He did tell us beforehand that they had the permits in house and were ready to proceed - I just need to sign. I went to city hall directly from this meeting - no permits were issued let alone applied for 7 months after we put down money and signed a contract. 6 other homes 3 spec homes and 3 that went to contract in december were already underway... Why?

Because century made no mistakes - they simply delayed and delayed hoping we would get so frustrated that we just quit, so they could break the contract and resell the lot and house for a huge markup and keep our deposit because we went to contract before the price increases on the other spec houses and custom homes underway which had far better profit margins.

The customer does not come first at century, nor do their employees. All they care about is screwing their customers, building # quality overpriced spec houses so they can pay the debt service on the recent acquisition of jimmy jacobs.

Run away fast - straight to the drees builder.

Do not sign any contract - they have the right to terminate for any reason and keep your deposit - its in the lawyers hands now - but if I need to walk reagans overlook with a picket sign for the next year I will.

And I intend to tell every doctor lawyer and executive I know to run away from century builders

Century Communities don't live up to their warranty

We bought a brand new townhome from Century Communities in Thornton, CO in Jan. 2010. We had a similar incident with regard to our deposit as the previous person but we did eventually qualify for a loan but they (Kathy Ellis) was all for keeping our deposit. It seems to me that it is something they are very good at doing as the person who had wanted the home before us, did not qualify for a loan and his deposit was kept by Century Communities.

We received a letter from them regarding our 1 year warranty and we called them to report some problems we were having. The main one being a leak from the extractor fan in our second bathroom. The ceiling was soaked and had ripped. We had to stand a bucket under the extractor fan to cathch the water dripping down from the ceiling. Mike was sent out and took one look and said that it was a condensation problem.and there was nothing that could be done and he was prepared to repaint the ceiling. When I questioned this, I was told that this problem existed in a few more homes that they had built. We don't use this bathroom, so I am not sure how this problem can be a condensation problem. A roofer was sent out, he stood on the ground out the back and said that the roof looked fine and he was not prepared to get up on the roof because of the snow. As the snow melted, so did the dripping and leaking in the bathroom increase. I was given the email address of their so called Vice President of Warranty, Ken Rabel. I emailed this person 3 times and to date have had no reply.

If I have any advice for prospective buyers, it is stay away, look elsewhere for a home, there are many more homebuilders in this state.

In October our Century Agent told us how lucky we were because Century had increased base prices by 70K on all models and we had "gotten in right before the increase" - we had a contract with the correct price dated September 30th. In December we signed final placement of the plot plan and were told we are ready to build your home.
