Capital One avoid them

I have been living in Thailand for over 3 years. We came over here with an Orchard Bank credit card and told them we were moving here. After 2 weeks here, we tried to use the card and it was declined. Every single time we have tried to use it (over 30), it has been declined due to high security risk and we have to call so the transaction can go through. This is very inconvenient and the last time we tried, we called first and tried to pre-authorize the transaction we would be making in the next ten minutes and the rep said it would be fine. We used the card, declined again, and we called. They said we would have to wait an hour until the security department got in. That doesn't work when you are at a restaurant. This is absolutely the worst card I have ever had. I emailed customer service with this complaint and their response was to call Orchard Bank credit customer service, which I have done over 30 times. AVOID THIS CARD IF YOU PLAN ON USING IT OUTSIDE THE U.S. WORST INTERNATIONAL CARD EVER!

I've been a customer of Orchard mastercard for yrs.now.never late, good rating.Said I would receive periodic increases accordingly.Never got such.called to inquire & was told I'd have to "Pay"for any increases given to me.I established this card after a bankruptcy to build it up.it's doing anything but.and Now...If I close it it's held against me.The advice...

Capital One interest rate

We are behind in our capital one payments and we are financially struggling due to a recent job loss. We are trying to get capital one to lower our interest rate and they will have no part of it. They want us to make 9 payments before they will lower our interest payments and i have expressed to them that we cannot make the 9 payments at the current dollar amount. We are working with a financial consultant who said we should ask capital one to work with us but we are getting nowhere. The fact that we cannot make the minimum payments is hurting our credit rating. Is there anyway i can get them to work with us? Your help is appreciated.

Of course credit card companies only care about money. It's a business that lives off of debt.

I have been there and these banks have become heartless. Its all about the mighty dollar. Check your state laws about this matter and see what Capital One can do. It's a credit card that you probably don't need. See if you, or someone on your behalf, can negotiate a close to your account to stop the interest. I am not sure it's possible but it's a try. Stop using credit cards. If you can't outright buy it, you can't afford it. I now live on cash only. It teaches me to be more frugal and be financially wise. Comment before mine is another money hungry jerk. Ignore it. Move forward to straighten your life out and pray for help to make the best financial decisions you can.

If they say they aren't going to then there is nothing you can do. They do not have to help you. Have you been a long time customer? That can help at times. I'm sorry you're having a difficult time, but if Capital One won't budge you may be SOL.

Capital One harassment

In February of 2007, I purchase a vehicle from Capital One Auto Finance. My payments was due on the 25th of each month before my due date I would recieve Harassing phone calls two weeks prior to my due date for payment on this car. I was told be a repersentive that I was place on a call register for payment on this vehicle and that they didn't have a way to cancel me off this register. How its 2010 in my financing is not what it has been I talk to a repersentive in the repo dept and told them I would like to volunteer to return this vehicle to them I was told I could apply for the hardship program if the vehicle was 60 days late and that they would send me an application to apply. Since then I have recieved harassing phone calls at lease 3-4 times a day from the same dept that said they would help in this matter. This is very disturbing and annoying to have someone say that they will help and still have their dept continue to harass you in the precess. I feel that Capital One have a very unhealth business practice to the consumer in the matter of doing business with them and this practice sould stop.

I think with the eocomy the way it is today companies are taking full average of harassing consumer out of their purchases. I believe that the consumer have a right to be protected by companies who have bad business practices and should have someone to repersent the consumer against these companies. If they were made to appear in front of congress to answer these harassing phone calls then maybe the bad business practices would stop. All over the United States people are being harass by companies for their consumer products and theirs no one to stop the practices these companies oppose on their customer. They have a "Do not call" policy in place for soliciters, why not have one for the auto loan industry make sense. We as consumer should have protected rights against companies who used this type of practices.

i realy want to take a minute to let you kknow about rights----- you say is harrasment but is really not, reason why cuz under the fdcpa which is what prevent unfair practices there is a part that stated that creditors can contact a debtor one ime per day, reaguardless of calls, what is really important is the contact, if a creditor call you 10 or 11 times but only speak with ou once is under the law

Capital One calls 8-9 times a day

Dear Capital One, I have asked numorous times to quit calling me every day! I will not answer the phone! I have no job! Car, House-which was foreclosed on due to the death of my Husband. I dO NOT WORK! I have nothing! Not even a bank account! I am tired of being harrassed every day! and I'm tired of all the foreigners taking us Americans jobs! When you call I can't even understand You foreigners! So, don't call! You won't get any money out of me because I have none! I can't help the situation I am in! That was uncontolable! You don't care about the consumer at all! I will never get a loan thru you again in life!You have made me mad, angy, hostile and I'm not a hostile person! You have harrassed me for over a year! So, please give it a rest! You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip! Can u understand that? I am asking you again quit calling me---Peggy Palazzola! If, you do not quit calling me, I will take futher action even, if that means getting a Lawyer!

I'm sorry to hear that you are currently not on a job, I hope the situation solves soon. I previously worked in Collections in Capital One and have the reason why you keep receiving calls, but you will not like it... Capital One has an automatic dialer system in-place, it has a registry of all customers that are past due on their account, and only that; no notes of why the account is behind or that the customer is unable to pay the loan amount because of X reason... Just the phone numbers. The system dials your number and then connects an agent. Now the part of the jobs... I am American, born in Kansas, and the entire team that works in US soil for Capital One is American. However the pay per hour is too high here, so they outsource the rest of the customer service team to other countries. I worked in one of those centers in Central America and I have to say, every single member of that team was either native English speaker or had a perfect English speech. So the problem of communication has to be on your side. So no one is taking jobs to the Americans, we just charge too much for the job ;) BTW, you can always fill a C&D in a court so that Capital One can no longer contact you over the phone. But keep in mind that you still need to pay the car because you made the loan.

Capital One stealing my money

I canceled my merchant services account after 8 months because 2 credit card readers went bad.Refurbished machines..And I had to pay 4 new ones..I paid $800.00 for 2 defective machines ..then I wrote a letter canceling my account. I sent back equipment and was supposed to receive back the additional $400.00 dollars that was a deposit on the machines credited back into my account..still waiting on that !I have been charged $20.00 dollars every month since then (a year now) for my merchant services account that I canceled in writing. I left a couple of hundred in that account and quit using it was waiting for refund of deposit...Now that account went into over draft because of those charges and I recieved a $325.00 bill for them..Unreal... I have reported this to the attorney generals office ..Now i guess I wait...

Capital One unfair increase in membership fees

To Whom It May Concern: That holds or has a Capital One Credit of any kind

If anyone in this world has a Capital One credit card account either a Visa or a Master card account. I suggest you stop doing business with them and to close out all your credit card account or banking you are doing them. Because if you don’t you are going to be in for a major surprise and taken for your hard money you make. So everyone, be ready to get an all notification in your mail boxes. Where they will and are going to try to charge people twice for annual membership fees to hold an account with them, even though Capital One has already charged you their one time a yearly membership fee this year.

On October 1, 2010, I received a small letter in the mail from Capital One Credit Card Company. That on November 14, 2010 that they are going to be increasing all credit card account holders with a new Annual Membership fee to have an account with them. They are raising their membership fees from $39.00 dollars a year to $59.00 a year. When I called nicely and ask them about this letter. They stated that they had ever right to increase the Annual Membership fee without justifiable reasons, because the way the economy is and said that our U.S. government has passed a new law. Allowing all the major credit card companies to charge all their faithful and on time costumers. Two annual membership fees a year to keep an account with them.

When I called to speak to an account specialist they tried to give me all this song and dance and excuses to charge me twice for a yearly membership fee and even though they already charged me $39.00 in a membership fee in August of 2010. They told me that they where going to charge me a second Annual Membership Fee on November 14, 2010 of $59.00 dollars unless I opted out of this change and the letter said that if I opt out of this new change that then they would close my account and they would stop reporting to the credit agency’s of all my on time payments I made to them after I closed my account and declined these new changes. When I called on September 30, 2010, I asked them that being. I’m closing my visa credit card account with them. Because I disagreed with these new changes and felt that they had no right to double charge me or their faithful paying customers two membership fees in one year. Because this is unlawful and a very shady business practices, I asked them if they would also be willing to refund this year’s yearly membership fee. Being that my account with them is going to be closed. They told me that it was past the 30 days and would not. I told them the yearly fee only is to apply if the costumer choices to keep their card open. But, they still refused to refund my membership fee this year even though my credit card account is going to be closed on November 14, 2010. They refuse to credit back the yearly membership fee that they charged me in August 16, 2010 and told me that they where going to charge me still the $59.00 dollar in November. Card holder beware and stay clear of Capital One.

if i had balance of zero dollars. i wld close my account no questions asked. i have a balance so i am stuck with a fee i was not aware of when i agreed to sign for the card. hi capital one, CLEVER MUCH?

I have had a Capital One card for nearly 3 years. Small limit of only $300. They just started charging me a $3 monthly fee as well. I asked why and pretty much they stated they are doing that to everyone now b/c they have 24/7 customer service, great fraud protection, and there was something else that was stupid he said to make the fee look significant. Yeah whatever! Hardly not worth having. My interest rate is 5.9% which is why i still have it. After figuring up their monthly bullcrap it comes to 17.9%. They just put that extra in as a "small membership fee" so you won't feel like your getting dooped. So even if I spend nothing my interest rate is 12% lol. Plus I have their payment protection plan which is 10% of your balance. Seems the protection plan would fall under their "awesome" new monthly fee. Nope it's still extra! So their little plan is more than my interest rate all together, which is once again, (done mathematically) 12%. hilarious! Please keep in mind they just paid out a huge lawsuit that was filed against them b/c they wasn't paying out for their "payment protection plan" when people claimed it. So they are trying to compensate for their loss b/c they screwed people.

The customer rep basically told me they couldn't do anything and that even though I had a no annual fee agreement from the begining on two cards (A small one from college days) that the annual membership fee would be 120 for both. She said (from central america no less) that they would rather lose a customer and they coulnd't do anything with the fees.

All my other cards have no annual fee (citi, discover, direct merchants, target visa, etc) and have much lower rates anyway.

Stay away from Capital one, What's in your wallet? NOT capital one.

Capital One fraud

I have an upside down mortgage with capital one. I have tried for 2 years to be proactive and fix this. I have written letters, spoke to attorney's, called the bank upteen times, visited branches etc. Currently I hold a mortgage that is over $500, 000. I had a forensic audit done on my appraised used in 2007 to fund my loan. This appraisal was fraudulent. Square footage was made up. All comps were fraudulent etc... Capital one's underwriting department failed to flag this prior to funding the loan. I went to re-fiance my home and uncovered all this information which I had documented per forensic audit. Capital one refuses to work with me. They refuse to connect me with anyone at the bank other than a customer service representive to fix this issue. A national bank committed FRAUD and is getting away with it. How is this possible. Please HELP!

I called Captial one and was offered a zero percent balance transfer for 6 months, then it would be 4.99% fixed for the duration of the balance transfer. For two months I received zero % on the third month, I got hit witha 15.9% finance charge and when I called to find out why they tell me that deal was never available. They are now saying I have to pay 15.9% for the duration of the balance transfer. When I asked them to pull the recording of our conversation, they say they cannot do that. I then speak to Mike the Accounts specialist and he says the guys that offer the balance transfers are paid on commission so they might say anything to make the sell. Well now I am stuck with a 15.9% balance transfer. This is FRAUD

i currently have credit score of 707 points. and i had to open a credit card with no oversea usage charge and the capital one was the only one. so ive applied online and they said my credit was approved. and today ive received my credit card with a limit of $500. what?/ are you freakin kidding me? so ive called and talked to the customer service rep and he transfered me to the specialist and what she said was i was a high risk for them and that was the best they could do. credit score above 700 is a high risk? and if i was, then i shouldve got turned down when i filed in the application. i told her to fix this because this is not acceptable and she said there was nothing she can do so if i dont like it, close the account. so i did. now im left with heavy inquried ###ed up credit report. ###in scammers. thats all i can say

Capital One low interest rate credit card from capital one is a scam

Low Interest Rate Credit Card From Capital One is a Scam.

Avoid Capital One Secured Credit Card like the plague. Here's their corrupt procedure:

1) Tell you to send in $300 (or greater amount for higher limit).

2) Once they receive your money they send you a snail mail telling you they got your money and that they will be sending out a identity confirmation package. (Why not just send it to save time?)

3) A few weeks drip by, then you receive the snail mail identity package.

4) You have to fill out a form and go to the post office and show id, to confirm identity, then snail mail the form back to them.

5) They then send you out a notification that your identity has been confirmed and you will be receiving your pre-paid card shortly. (Again, why not just send the damn card.)

6) A few weeks later your card arrives.

The whole process takes close to 3 months, during which time they are earning millions in interest using your money combined with tens of thousands of other customers.

Once you spend the deposit amount, you'd think your balance would be $0, but no. They post your balance as (ex: $300) then when you charge say $21, the balance goes to say $321).

You then receive a statement stating your balance of $321, and showing a minimum payment of $21. So you pay the $21 and on your next statement see that they charged you say $5.01 in interest. So even though you made the minimum payment of $21, they charge you an over-limit fee of $29 because the INTEREST charges sent you over-limit. Now remember, this is a pre-paid credit card, so in reality you only actually owe them $5.01 in interest, but they ding you for $29 anyway.

So then you figure out they're a bunch of crooks, so decide to close the account. You make a final payment sufficient to cover all current charges and interest and a few days future interest, for good measure. You even record the conversation using Skype Recorder of their rep telling you that the account is closed and there will be no further charges posted. You assume that with your payment of $ 31.01 ($21 + $5.01 for interest + $5 for a few days interest, just in case), that your total statement balance of $326.01 will be paid out ($300 of credit coming from the $300 deposit you gave them when you opened the account).

But no. Capital One Pre-Paid Credit Card has more dirty tricks up their sleeve. They then continue to post charges to your account, then charge you the $29 overlimit fee and punch you in the face by telling you they won't close the account until your balance is paid off in full. i.e. Even thought they have $300 of your money, they want you to send them $300 + the $5.01 for the unauthorized charge, plus the $29 they illegally charged you on an account their rep. told you was closed when you called in to close it.

So they expect you to pay them $334.01 out of pocket to close the account, and then wait for them to send you back your deposit of $300. Capital One Pre-Paid Mastercard are a bunch of evil ### who should rot in hell forever for intentionally plotting how to maximize their thefts from people who are struggling to rebuild credit by using a pre-paid mastercard. Avoid Capital One Credit Cards like the plague.

My dealings with Capital One have been long and convoluted, so I won't bother going into great detail. I'll just say that once you pay that deposit, don't expect to ever see it again. They steal it, and when you try to get it back they give you the run around - probably intended to make you just give up. It works.

Moral of the story: This company is a scam. No matter how bad your credit, it just isn't worth it to do business with Capital One. There are better, far more affordable ways to rebuild your credit. Get a secured line of credit with your bank instead, for instance.

I moved to a new state. Figured I would get a secured card to build credit to buy a house. They took my money out of my bank account and sent card. All should be good. NOPE. They called my father to ask if he applied for a card. He said no and they flagged my card as fraud. I hadn't lived in parents house in 13 years and we both have the same first name. They didn't ask hime to verify birthdate or social or full name. So I cant get my money back or get credit. When I called they told me I have to apply for credit in my own information. DUH I did and was told they would refund my 49.00 it has been six months it took 24 hours to take the money but wont return it. CROOKS Maybe if they want to go back that far you might want to get the information correct. there are Many John's out there get middle name, birth date, and social tooo... BEWARE I now have fraud on my account and cant get it removed until Capital ONe removes it

I Sonewhat agree with Criminal. It has been two months since I paid my deposit and I have the card, however I am still waiting for the 4 digit pin. I have made a couple calls to their customer service dept. However everytime I call they say I should have gotten my pin in the mail and they will resend it. (Should have it in 4 business days). If it is going to take 4-6 weeks to mail out a pin number then tell me that. So the deal was put $75 down for a $300 secured card. So I sent the money, (2 months ago now) 6 weeks to get the card and I still am waiting for the pin. After the card arrives I get a bill for 59.00 This is a activation fee? Wow didnt see that coming. So i paid it. Now the painful wait for the pin that never seems to arrive. Im not saying they are crooks, but seriously does it actually take 2 months to get a letter? I can get a parcel from the southern states delivered in less then 2 weeks. Just be more honest and punctual Capitol one. Heres the funny part... While I am waiting, , , I went into my bank to get a new debit card and they informed me that I was pre-approved for a $5000 Visa. I will keep ya posted on how long they take for comparison.

CapitalOneIsCriminal obviously has no idea how secured credit cards work (or credit cards in general for that matter). For one, he obviously did not complete the deposit process in an intelligent way, because mine was direct deposited, and I had my card within a couple weeks max. The 'my balance should be zero' part...needs no further comment. Also, credit card companies CANNOT charge overlimit fees unless YOU PERSONALLY OPT IN to overlimit charges, allowing your card to accept charges over the credit limit, thus accepting the fee. Mine has been over the limit due to interest applied, and I've never seen a fee. I've had a $500 secured card with Capital One for over a year now, and it has indeed improved my credit greatly. In addition, I was approved for a $750 unsecured card with them less than 2 months after opening the secured account. That said...they are the ONLY credit card company I can think of that DOES NOT offer the option for the secured product to 'graduate' to an unsecured card. Had I chosen Bank of America instead of Capital one, I would have an unsecured card with them now, and have my deposit back. So because Capital one runs their company ### backwards and doesn't care to deepen their customer relationships, I am now forced to either leave that $500 in their possession to keep my account open, or close it, get the $500 back, and open another secured card with a company that will actually take my payment history and account management into consideration and eventually return the deposit without closing the card. In doing this, I will be closing my first credit card, negatively impacting my credit score...So while this guy's complaint was based on complete ignorance of what he was signing up for...Capital One is still far behind their competitors when it comes to this type of product...they could care less if I remained as a customer, built my credit, and began to do more business with them as my credit history and credit lines improve and increase. So I'll likely be taking my business to another company, and re-investing that $500 with a company like Bank of America where it can help me improve my credit without ultimately harming it when I am forced to either close the account, or leave the money with them so they can make interest off of it and me, to avoid the harm to my credit that closing the account would likely cause. So no, Capital One are not crooks...they just make run a poor, no, more like idiotic business model that has no focus on long term customer relationships.

I have an un-canadian (american) capital one secured card - and yes you secure it with a deposit, and your balance is what you charge onto the card.

You obviously did not understand how a secure card works. It is a regular credit card that you have provided secure funds for, and yes it is a long process, because you have poor or non-existent credit the Canadian government requires all credit providers to do an extra step to verify who you are. Capital One does not have branches in Canada so they have to partner with a federal agent (Canada Post) to make sure you are not a fraudsters (all banks do this with credit but their tellers do this so it is a bit faster and there are fewer errors). While you may dislike Capital One because they took a long time getting the card to you, other than that you can't blame Cap One for you not reading and understanding how to use a secure card. Over-limit fees and interest fees are clearly stated on the web site, Cap one also doesn't charge late fee's and will give you the occasional payment holiday so it looks like you made regular payments even if you missed one.

Capital One reports your good credit history every month unlike other cards that take their sweet time, Other secure cards won't bother looking at you without a $500 plus security deposit so you have to tie up more of your money. Capital One has a super simple web site that has dozens of tools to help you manage the card wisely and if you had taken the time to read it before racking it to the max and incurring over-limit fee's you might have improved your credit score enough by now. I have a $400 limit on my secure card and in less than a year I have gained 60 points and I am now hovering on the fine line of 'fair' and 'good'. That means in a few months i will qualify for an unsecured card and I can apply either at Cap One or get one from my bank and THEN I can cancel my secure card and get my funds back.

You are getting pre-paid cc and secured cc mixed up. On a pre-paid card you make a deposit say 300.00 . you charge 300.00 and your balance is 0. To use it again you need to make another deposit. On a secured cc you make a deposit of 300.00 secured on the cc. You charge 300.00 and your balance is 300.00, to make payments on. You owe 300.00. The 300.00 you put on the card is only security if you dont pay.

Capital One denial of access to my account

In the take over of Chevy Chase bank I was forced to be a Capital one customer.
Although I talked several hours with 5-8 representatives for several days the bank could not provide me an internet access to my account.
Till now I do not have such access, and I became a prisoner of Capital One bank.

Same story here. I use online banking services a lot, for bill payment, etc. A few weeks ago Capital One sent us a letter saying they were completing the takeover and that as a result on a certain date my login name would change (they provided the new one) and I should use the same password to access my info.

Well... I tried, and my login info was rejected. New one, old one, all caps, all lowercase, doesn't matter. After I tried a few times, the system DISABLED my online account. oookaaaay... There was an 800 number on the letter and an 800 number on the website. The one on the letter was an invalid number and the one on the website was an automated service that said they were closed after regular business hours and I should GO ONLINE BECAUSE THAT NEVER CLOSES. It would be funny if it weren't so horrible.

I can hardly wait to move my money. PNC here I come!

Capital One exstintion

I talked to capital one auto loan that I have a car loan through. I asked for a extinction they said I am eligible. They had me sign a paper which I did. They said I had to pay a 35 dollar fee. I said I would call back last week to pay which I did call back, the agent said don't worry about it. But then they took out my pymt. I talked a agent today sept 16th they said oh you didn't pay the fee, plus your not eligible. I am having surgeries is why I asked for help in the first place. Everytime I call they are Ruid I got hung up on by a supervisor today. I am so sick of the way I get treated by them. I wish somebody would call me that is over the supervisors that are over the agents.

Capital One poor service

Capital One has just taken over Chevy Chase Bank in the WDC area offically this Monday Sep 13, 2010. Being a former CCB customer, I have been experiencing nothing but problems this week. They include, missing acounts in my online profile, failure to close a matured CD, large balance requirements and service charges to two of my accounts without warning, and accounts frozen for no apparent reason. In addition I am also not able to use my ATM card which was supposed to be valid till I get the new Capital One card. Since Tuesday, I have been on the phone with various bank personnel as well as visiting the local branch all without success in resolving the issues. I've been told by the bank staff that I am not alone, that many CCB customers have been affected by similar problems. I have never seen a takeover that is this problematic and the worst is I don't know if there will be an end to it or if it's just the beginning of many more problems to come.

Capital One credit card billing

For the past two months Capital One has NOT sent us a billing statement on our credit cards...we've had these cards for several years and have never been late last month I caught it and paid by phone this month it got past me..and I didnt realize I had'nt paid until it was late...I don't know what's going on...I'm asking them to remove any negative statements from my accts if they don't I can live with out their Credit cards...anybody else experiencing this... not recieving your statements? Thanks

Capital One charges on my credit card

The protection play from capital, made two unauthorized charges on my credit card. I pay 10 dollars a month for that plan, and when I lost my job on 2009 then help me pay the penments till I got a new job it was arount 300 dollars but when I started pay my account again the charge me every single panny yhe had put on my account.

Capital One capital one auto finance

I have received numerous calls from Capital One Auto Finance since June, 2010 (I'm writing this August 4, 2010). They call my home beginning around 8:00 a.m. until late in the evening. They are looking for a person who I've never heard of and who does not live at my home. This person has the same last name as I do, which is a very common last name as common as Smith or Jones. I've told them several times that the person they are looking for does not live here so take my phone number off of their list. Of course, they continue to call! I've never had an account with Capital One or Capital One Auto Finance (and I never will)! What's ridiculous is that they're never going to get a dime from the person they're looking for because they're not calling him, they're calling me and they're certainly not going to get a dime from me! I'm taking photos of the calls as they come in and recording all of their messages so that when I have enough to prove harrassment, I'll turn all the info over to an Attorney. Keep the calls coming Capital One Auto Finance!

Capital One scam

I received a "congratulations for coming out of bankruptcy" offer from Capital One in the mail. Pre-approved, no fees, etc. I had not applied for any kind of credit card in 5 years, and thought, ok maybe this is a good time to get one and begin to establish payment history again. The day I activated the card I was told I had $300 for credit and/or cash - both of which were available immediately. I went to a movie and charged $16.o0. The next day I was making a purchase for which they'd only accept cash (ok...a new kitten), when I tried withdrawing $125.00 from the card, I was denied several times. So I called and was told that the card was suspended due to potential fradulent activity. How so? I used it once for a whopping $16.oo charge. Well...you're trying to withdraw cash and that's a red flag. It would've been nice if someone had told me that. So now in order to get the suspension removed, they want my driver's license, pay stubs, bank statement, proof of residence (copy of a bill). I told them this felt a lot like a scam - they give me a card w/o any proof of income, etc., and suspend it right after the first charge then demand all this information so they can turn around and screw me. The woman I talked to was a total ###. I told her that I'd just paid the balance - which included an annual fee that I was not supposed to be charged - if I was a fraud, why would I pay it? It's all explained in the letter, she said. What letter? I never received a letter. Oh, I'll fax it to you - so she put me on hold for 5 minutes and then said it'd be faxed in 5 business days (what a joke). So, I said, what if I choose not to send you this "proof" you want? We'll close your account. Meaning, I now have a negative mark on a credit report I am trying to fix. Extortion? This is so so so very wrong. The entire credit industry is a massive fraud - how can three frickin agencies who know nothing about a person collect random data used to slap a number on you that then determines if you can buy a house, or a car, or get a job., or what rate you'll pay for insurance (gotta love that - you are not extending me credit, and yet you use my credit to determine my rates). And god forbid if you try to correct any of the "data" they have on you. It is criminal and I wonder if anyone will ever put a stop to it. I'm going back to my cash existence.

Today I received a notice from Capital One stating that they are raising my APR from 4.40% to 29.4%. I have NEVER been late making a payment, and have always paid MORE than the minimum due when possible. Some way to treat their loyal customers. Why should people that are customers in good standing have to get stuck with a higher APR because Capital One are greedy ###? And plus the way that its send out, it almost looks like junk mail, and I am sure some people are not reading it and throwing it away. I called to cancel my card after receiving this ridiculous notice and did not speak to one person. All automated. Pretty bad when you gotta make that an option. I will NEVER get another capital one card again. I am done.

I have had an automobile loan with Capital one for several years. Since the beginning of the loan I have been trying to get my payment date changed from the 12th to the 20th. I am a teacher in the state of Oklahoma and get paid once a month. Capital one has refused to change the payment due date and as of today I owe over $500 in late fees.

I fell behind in my car payment and was contacted by Capital one in late June and was told that I had to pay $903.00 within 5 days or the automobile would be repossessed. I sent the payment and spoke with a hispanic sounding gentleman in the repossession department. I explained to him for the 100th time that I needed to get my payment due date changed to the 20th of the month. He told me that as long as I made a payment by the 12th of July they would defer my past due payment to the end of my loan which would bring my account current and he would change my due date at that time. I sent Capital One an online payment on June 12, 2010. I called today to find out about the deferment and was told by someone named Teresa that I could not have the deferment unless I sent another $458.00!

I have gone round and round with this company for years trying to get this whole mess straightened out. I have done exactly what they have asked me to do in regards to making up the required past due payment and the continue to renig on what they have told me they would do as far as getting the payment due date changed. I am at my wits end and if this doesn't get resolved to my complete satisfaction by the 25th of July I will have no choice but to take action against the company.

You are absolutely correct. I worked in the loan industry in the early 80's. At that time we would take a credit application, call the employer, run the credit, talk, (yes talk) to the applicant regarding any late payments, etc. Loans were done in person (really) and character mattered. Then suddenly we had a new boss (I worked at a Credit Union), anyway, this new boss was really big on this new way of telling if a person would pay back their loan; and golly gee, it was this thing called FICO. I wouldn't use it, I somehow felt the "old" way was better. Try to understand what was the problem if something stood out on the credit report. People got to know their banker. It's how business was done.

This new thing back in the 80's, this Number thing, well it was the FICO. You got points for how long you were on the job, own/rent, got more points if MC over Visa. I never could understand that one. In fact I often said it reduced to a very impersonal way of doing business and not giving people a chance. Nonsense! I was told.

Today the only thing that matters is your FICO score and life be damned. Here is the funny part. A few years ago a poor FICO score was something like 450/500, that was poor. Good was somewhere around 500/600. Well, here's the funny part, today, poor is somewhere around 550/600.

I've said for years it is designed to keep the middle class down. Life happens. I can't count the times that if I had used this new thing FICO back when I did loans; well most likely half the people wouldn't have gotten a loan. Yet all loans were paid on time (thank you payroll deduction), but even those who had left employment, still mailed their payments in on time.

What sense does it make to stick someone with a higher interest rate because they had some bad luck? So their FICO score is bad. Which given how that number seems to change with the tides; YOU may have a good FICO today, but tomorrow...you can't be to sure.

You can look at the whole picture when it's a real person doing the looking. Not some computer, spiting out numbers.

Does this FICO score system need to be fixed? Yes. Is it designed to keep the middle class down? I believe so. The system can be fixed. There is nothing wrong with using the FICO score as a tool; as one part of the picture. To help confirm what the "person to person", reviewing the credit application and looking at the credit history line by line. Do that, take the score into consideration, talk with the client and bam! You can make a very good decision. I knew I never had a loan go bad! Never.

I don't agree with Capital One's process that you're mentioning, but perhaps this information will be useful to you:

When you apply for the one, Capital One evaluates your credit and makes judgment on whether or nor to extend credit to you. When you get the card, your transactions are monitored. Red flags are raised when patterns of activity suggest potential account fraud or identity theft. If someone does manage to steal your identity, they won't try and establish an excellent history on your behalf, they will try and max out any credit available to them, so if the monitoring program considers the transaction suspicious the card would become locked down. No-one you would have spoken to when activating or applying for the card would have foreknowledge of you having to go through the process. The only way they will release the hold on the card is by you verifying the information supplied on your original credit application. The people you speak to on the phone have no capability to release the hold and if they attempt to do so they face disciplinary procedures and potential termination.

There is only one team that actually reviews the documents sent in and you cannot speak to them over the phone, as they are not customer facing. They simply review the imaged documents and remove suspensions or send letters explaining what information is missing. It's an inconvenient process from start to finish. I would rather see Capital One ask for these documents prior to opening accounts but the manpower required to do that would be immense and it would slow down an already slow application process. The process does prevent fraud and so it is not entirely a waste but the implementation does leave something to be desired.

If you had spoken to someone using the number on the back of your card and pressed zero, you would have better understood your change in terms. That one sounds like a default rate increase. You only get a default rate vs a regular apr if your are past due 2 times in 12 months. If that was just a default rate increase as I suspect it is, then you had nothing to worry about. You would have kept your low apr and only gone to the higher one if you defaulted on your card (past due 2 times in 12 months). If you have already opted out, typically that is non reversible. In the future, if you get a letter like that, before you get upset call the regular customer service line and someone will explain it in truthful, correct and easy launguage that makes the change easier to understand. If you want to opt out after that, fine, but atleast you made the decision to opt out logically vs emotionally.

Capital One ruined my credit

Capital One auto has ruined my credit! I have tried tooth and nail to protect my credit to the best of my ability with all my accounts. As of now I have not been late with anything for over 7 years, so I have relatively good credit. I refinanced my loan with Capital One Auto in early 2008; I went a few days past my due date.

I called Capital One and they wanted to charge me a convenience fee of $15 for paying over the phone. I opted out and decided to go online because the represented told it was free of charge. I went through this entire process to get registered into the online system and sent my payment online. It comes to my attention the next month invoice shows I owe 2 months. I immediately called Capital One to resolve this misunderstanding. Apparently the information I put into the system was incorrect therefore the payment never went through and now I am late 30 Days. I spoke with supervisor and several other representatives they all pretty much gave me the same spiel that it was not a bank error. This was 2 years ago; I have tried diligently to dispute this item with the bureaus but to no avail. Capital One insist the item was correct and they I am 30 days late.

About 2 years later they come up with another late! Ok I have to admit for the last year I have fallen behind on my payments but I have never exceeded more than 30days, because at this point my credit would not be affected. I applied for forbearance for my July's payment, which I sent in mid July. They have confirmation of receiving it their form plus the $35 Dollar processing fee, but the application is apparently is still pending. I got a texted on August 2, 2010 please call Capital One, so I immediately did. The representative said that my request was still pending and I am now late 32 Days! I was irate to say the least and she said I will have my manager call you tomorrow. I called back and got the run around... Finally, a supervisor called me back and apparently the forbearance is curtsey and the fact remains that I am effectively 32 Days late... Well I still process your forbearance but I can not remove the 30 Day late on your credit because it is not a bank failure!

I think this company is full of! $%&^ and they are ###. I feel they purposely ruined my credit so that I remain their client. Preventing me from seeking credit elsewhere!

Capital One rude customer service

Capital One needs help training their customer service representatives! My husband and I are consolidating credit card accounts. We each elected to close one personal credit card each. I chose my Capital One card because it has the highest interest rate although it is my most seasoned account; mainly because they refused to lower the rate to beat the other two cards I currently hold. Upon paying off the entire balance and calling to request the account be closed, I was given quite the sales pitch about this being a bad idea. The kid basically gave me a lecture on banking. I interrupted him, nicely, to let him know the decision had already been made and I already understood the principles of closing seasoned accounts and still wanted to close this account. He then rattled off the policies about closing accounts and hung up on me. After being a card holder for 8 years and always paying each bill on time, I still got the boot in the butt on the way out the door. What's in my wallet? A credit card from the nice folks at my local Credit Union. Screw Capital One.

In an attempt to use Capital One miles rewards I contacted Capital One prior to making my airline purchase. I was delightfully surprised and exited when the customer service representative checked my mileage availability and advised that I have more than enough miles to make the purchase. After the purchase appeared on my credit card, I contacted Capital One to redeem my miles. At that point the customer service representative told me I don’t have enough miles for that purchase. With my attempt to get information on who gave me the wrong advise I was transferred to a supervisor named Careth. She bluntly told me that maybe I heard what I wanted to hear when I was originally calling before my purchase. No wonder Capital One has such bad customer service rep. Needless to say I will be closing my accounts with Capital One.

Capital One online banking

I do mostly online banking for bill payment. on 07/13/2010 I posted 4 bills . I got the confirmation as i always
get. but next bill I was surprised to see the late fee on those bill that I sent . I rushed to my bank to solve the issue.
they couldn't help me...just apologized ...that's all..
I think this free checking bank it crap... I should take my business elsewhere...

Capital One email scam

I have gotten a lot of spam e-mail in my life, and I understand this is part of having e-mail. But it seems that Orchard Bank Credit Card has found a way to send e-mails from a ton of different servers, so no matter how many you "unsuscribe" from they just keep coming! I personally have "unsuscribed" approximately 5 times, and I just got two more today! It's driving me insane because I want to find the person to yell at but it's such a large company I don't even know where to start! Can I add that this is credit card spam and I am in the middle of a bankruptcy.

What I don't understand is why there isn't a way to report the companies that participate in this repetitive spam, i.e. Orchard Bank, University of Phoenix, and any other company that uses some spammer to distribute their spam. They know it is wrong when they sign up with these spammers. I personally will NEVER do business with any company that sends me spam. Orchard Bank and some of these other companies should be fined. Hit them in the pocket book since that is the only language they understand.

I am a tech for my local library with a degree in information technology. I tell you from a professional standpoint to never click "unsubscribe" on spam emails. Your e-mail address has likely been redistributed each time you click "unsubscribe." Just mark as spam and let your inbox learn. Eventually all your spam will go only to your spam folder and you'll never have to see it again.
