national college planners Don't pay them – you won't get promised services

I paid money for the services, which provided National College Planners. I wasted about $5, 000 and still heard some promises and blah-blah. The rep is really unprofessional guy and he told me only some crap. I already asked for refund, but he simply stopped to reply. I have no idea what measures to take now. I wonder if there are people, who have the same problems and what have you done in such situation, please post comments.

national college planners scam

This company, it's owner Jason Youngblood makes big promises of getting high school student into college at big price reductions regardless of parents income or students grades. After he takes your nearly $4, 00.00 you don't hear from him. He becomes very hard to reach, e-mails and calls to his office go unanswered and the parent is forced to again take control of trying to sort through the red tape of college entry which you paid him to do.

We had the same experience, perhaps not quite so negative. Jason helped with guidance and the applications/essays, but in the end we didn’t get into any of the schools he was recommending and got $0 financial aid. Just out $3k+ we paid him and acceptance to a state school that we could have managed on our own. Very disappointed and I told him as much.

In the initial meeting Jason requires parents and student to attend, and then requires personal private financial information be submitted even before you agree to work with him - what's to keep him from selling this financial information since he's also a financial planner? Never offered our student any encouragement; badgered him for not doing as told, rather than providing guidance, tips, screening tools, useful websites. When we asked to participate in the essay review he scolded us for daring to be involved yet his staff provided almost no assistance in content editing. Jason has constant turnover of young, pretty staff while he struts around in tight polo shirts reminding students he is a martial arts expert. Clearly the wrong profession when students need guidance, encouragement, direction, coaching, mentoring. Avoid this program completely. Watch out for his $39/month endless retainer on top of the $3000 up front cost.

He makes a lot of promises about having certain material to get a hold of little known scholarships. What I did in his office, I could have done at home and for a lot less money. My parents hired him because I'm the first child in our family to go to college and he promised to guide us through the whole application process and basically take all of the stress of it away. He takes your financial information and promises that he sends it to the colleges. To an extent he does, but as someone who is paid to submit paperwork for you, he doesn't do a very good job.
One of my colleges needed a paper copy my financial aid information submitted to them and he told us he would do it. He never did and as a result I did not get any sort of financial aid from the college. One of my friends who went to him had a similar experience. He didn't submit his financial aid either (and it was his top choice college might I add) and so the college didn't offer him any sort of financial aid. As a result, he can't go there.
Really, the most useful thing was that I got all of my essays edited. This was very useful, but there are ways to get them edited that are much cheaper. The girl who edited them was super nice and helpful though!
Overall, NCP was supposed to help me choose a good college fit, help me get scholarships and submit financial aid information. I did not find them very helpful for choosing a college, I could have done the scholarship stuff at home (the only scholarship site he had me use was fastweb) and he messed up my financial aid stuff for one of my colleges.
I would save your money, honestly. My parents are upset with the service he provided and so am I.

$4, 000?

You know, part of the experience of going to college is working through and navigating the application & admissions process. If a potential student can't do this, then maybe s/he is not ready for college. I just realized why the Freshmen who don't make it in their first year at the University do bad, it's because they did not actively participate in the application process. Their well meaning parents are still diapering them. Do your kid a favor, take him/her to the Military recruiter's office so they can grow up a bit and get their lives on track.
