I originally signed up for a paralegal course through Meditec in August of 2006. Due to health problems, I never completed the course. However, I had to pay for the course, anyway, since I took out a loan for it. I currently pay approximately $300.00 a month on that loan.

Fast forward to now. The collection agency that handled my original loan with Meditec now is demanding $1900.00 for a course I allegedly signed up for last November through Meditec. I NEVER signed up for any course. In fact, I was attending college at another school at the time. And there is no way I would take more courses with Meditec-not after the way they handled our first business transaction. So now I have to prove I didn't sign up for a course with Meditec. I almost believe that Meditec is trying to pad its coffers by falsifying enrollment documents to make it look as if people are signing up for their courses.

Stay away, FAR AWAY, from Meditec. Their courses are sub-par and they will try to bleed you dry for money.

Im with Tawny marie. i spoke to a Meditec consultant and he was absolutley rude and unprofessional. He went on to say that medical transcriptionists dont need certifications (i knew this by the way) and that the externship was 3 months. He claimed thats all the experience that i would need but i know thats a LIE. see heres the thing, most transcription jobs require at least 3 yrs of experience so a fuc*ing 3 month externship is [censored]. how can you find a job striaght out of graduation with just 3 months of experience? explain that *ish* secret [censored] recruiters SMH.

I think the problem people are having with you TawnyMarie is your erroneous blanket statement that schools don't offer certification. That is not true. Also checked out your other comments on the board, and see you trolled a review without offering anything constructive. Knocking someone's use of English is foolish at best, especially when yours isn't perfect, makes you look ike an ###. Funnier yet you have to use spellcheck... Your ad hominem attacks are predictable seeing you were caught and called out as an idiot.

@ Tawny Marie - Your argument is without merit and benefirt of the facts. MD's aren't looking for med transcript jobs which require little education. Poor argument. You have shown you know nothing about certification, and schools and employment. Casca and Brenda* are right on the money. I have received certifications from a few schools myself. Licensing is a different matter from certification and where you might be confused Tawny. You should stick to posting on complaints you actually know something about as those of us that do can clearly see that you don't have a clue. You can get certifications from taking all online classes from the comfort of your home these days without ever entering an actual classroom.

Brenda seems to have a slight obsession with my posts. Who is the troll now? It is turning me on...I was aware of the spelling error however the spell check feature did not catch the error since roll is an actual word. Also, you can't edit posts after they have been posted. You and Paul can go back to sucking my big toe especially since you have no clue about the medical industry. Check with a prospective employer? You obviously have no clue as to how many billing/coding/transcription programs exist. Certification and having those competencies proves something to an employer more so than where you recieved your education. I would take a board certified MD who graduated from a state university any day over some Ivy level graduate who can't pass the boards. Looking forward to seeing you on the next forum Brenda. Your an excellent example as to what trolling is really about.

It's obvious Casca has no clue as to what kind of certifications are needed for most of those industries. Schools DONT provide certification. They provide the education/knowledge necessary for you to apply with an appropriate agency to sit for an exam that THEN certifies you (if you pass). The appropriate action would be to check with THOSE agencies and see how Meditec's graduates did on the exams if that information is available. I don't work for Meditec but, work in the medical industry in an admin roll which includes billing, coding, transcription, and practice mgmt. Just the fact that Meditec is willing to include the fee for some of the certification exams in some of their tuition plans shows me they feel pretty good about your odds of passing after going through their program...Otherwise they would have complaints through the roof. Sounds like Casca needs to find another board to troll around on.

And so MEDITEC stooges continue their irrelevant arguments. It doesn’t matter how many bad employees came from wherever. The jobs these people are seeking require certification. If employers do not recognize a certification from MEDITEC (no matter what the reason is) there is no reason whatsoever to pay for a certification from them. You will find out if you talk to prospective employers. The way MEDITEC operates, the way their “representatives” post on this blog, indicates scam-MLM. If it is not a scam-MLM then you wouldn’t be misdirecting arguments, or have a problem with my encouraging people to check with prospective employers before committing to MEDITEC. If you hired employees at your previous job, and where their credentials came from had nothing to do with the hiring process, then you did not hire for jobs that required an education, or certification. Don’t put up your previous experience at Burger King here as reference.

I hired new employees at my previous job and where they were educated at had nothing to do with the hiring process. You can have a university grad come and slack at their job or have a technical college grad come in and excel. It depends on the person and how well they perform at the job and their drive to keep it. Casca, exactly what information can you not find on the website? I inquired about Legal Transcription and found out the course details, is there something else I was supposed to be looking for? And why are you on here responding to this girls experience with Meditec if you only have input on their website and their employees. You keep saying that they are "steering people away from checking in with prospective employers" when a person above clearly stated that no degree or certification guarantees employment. It goes back to what I mentioned above, the person has to be a qualified candidate who can convince the employer they will fufill their duties. And if your last paragraph was even remotely true, I know there would be plently of complaints against this school.

Your continued misdirection, including a totally inaccurate definition for MLM, shows that you and Angie are both stooges for this company, and it must be a scam. Certainly some people might be able to obtain employment after getting certified by them. I am quite capable of perusing their entire website, which does not give you all the needed information on their program. Instead it requires contact with a “representative” that can fill you in using “I am just like you”, and “I am your friend” techniques, common with scam sales. Their website is about as informative as an infomercial for a new technique to earn money from home, that tells you nothing, but lets you know how successful you will be once you order their easy training package.

You continuously attempt to steer people away from the simple argument that they should check with prospective employers before speaking to any of the representatives of this program. If they have been successfully certifying people for 17 years, they will be well known among employers.

MLMs do not all require purchase of sales materials. Programs such as this require no costly sales materials. Their “representatives” are all participants in the program, however for some reason are not earning a living from the job the certification was supposed to give them, instead trying to make money getting others to sign up for the training. And, they are doing out of the goodness in their heart, even though getting you certified will ensue in greater competition for them getting a job.

I agree with educationrocks!

On another note:
Meditec's website is very user friendly and sound evident. In case you missed the navigation button about requesting more info, its there in black and white.

It's actually not a MLM at all. MLM requires people to pay for their own supplies and focuses on team recruitment over actual sales. This structure is a direct sales program and program reps are paid through the company, not a team leader (which is what a MLM does). They are actually contractual employees.

Your reply does not explain their MLM style of marketing their training, or their not making every detail of the program easy to view on their website. Address the issues I identified instead of giving the canned response. Everyone knows the government often poorly researches programs it is willing to support and even many programs totally run by the government especially social service programs have been found to be wasteful and even completely corrupt. Identifying the government support instead of addressing the issue of how they market their program only increases suspicion.

Like I said above, go to some of the employers you might seek to find jobs with based on certification from this school. If they recognize and respect their certifications they will let you know that yes, they would be willing to hire you if they have a position available and you have obtained certification through them.

Everyone,
When you attend any school, its important that you do the research needed in order to be fully content with attending your school of choice. Its up to each state, employer and school if they are willing to accept your certification from Meditec. It states in the Department of Educations Website that any certification and or degree does not warrant a employment opportunity let alone grant the right of acceptance upon first notice of educational completion. Meditec is up to par with other schools related to certifications and training. Meditec is MyCAA funded, accredited with The State of Utah, and is much more affordable than going to a Junior College and University alike. MyCAA is DOD funded and if you feel that this school is not to your liking, take it up with The Department of Defense. They are the responsible party for allowing excellent schools such as Meditec assist with portable career training programs that meet the needs of today's job market. I encourage you to educate and familiarize yourself with the websites listed below. It will alleviate any negativity you may have with Meditec!

Before applying for any training from an agency like this, check with local businesses that you might go to for a job after completing the training and see what they say. Find out if they would hire someone with the certification from this agency. Find out if they have had any experience with employees that completed this training (positive or negative). From what I have seen, the “agents” posting ads for this company want you to contact them as “advisors” to sign up for the training, and also seek to recruit others to become “advisors”. This smells of MLM. There is really no reason for a chain of recruiters for online training that has been operating for 17+ years. The entire process of learning about the program and filling out any required applications should be easy to accomplish online through the company’s homepage meditec.com. If their ability to present online training is good, they should certainly be able to develop a website tutorial that completely explains the program, your options, and walks you through signing up. If they are really a long established company with excellent results, local businesses will be anxious to hire persons certified through the agency and will tell you so.

I'm enrolled through Meditec and I'm also a recruiter and all I have to say is this is the because experience ever! You are told if you don't complete program you are responsible for getting an extension and if not you pay back the money. Doesn't sound like a scan to me! That's all schools of you finish or follow through you are responsible for paying back the money!:-)

Good Luck with coding/billing program...

Meditec's courses are not subpar. I went through their Medical Transcription training and then into their internship and was working right after graduation. I was so impressed w/ Meditec that I am now working through their coding/billing program to further my skill set. My down payment was only $200 and my monthly payments for MT were only $60 a month. I did enroll during a special where I got a $500 discount off the regular pricing. Whenever I had a question, I found the staff helpful. I researched quite a bit before choosing the school I went with, and Meditec has been in business over 40 years.

To be honest, it sounds to me like you started a program and didn't have the wearwithal to complete it and dropped out and then did not want to pay for it. Enrollments do not work like that. To be referred into collections means that you must have defaulted on your loan. Also, if the collection agency had your information incorrect, it seems to me that a simple call to the Meditec office would have cleared that up for you. Lastly, if you dropped out of the program, and never entered the paralegal field what makes you an expert on deciding what is and is not good paralegal training? I think you are just upset with yourself for dropping out and then still having to pay.

You signed up for a course, including obtaining a student loan. Did you believe you wouldn't have to pay it for whatever reason? You were referred for collection as it appears you didn't pay. Maybe, you could explain that.
The agency perhaps had the dates wrong. Accounts are never referred without very solid foundation and documentation.
Did you try to work it out with the company? With 3 BBB complaints in 15 years, the company reputation is peerless.
Would suggest strongly you contact the company rather than post this drivel in a public place.
