Elite Aircare Scam

I saw an add with offer of duct cleaning for $49. They claimed to be a licensed company and when called to schedule appointment...the secretary of course, to get clients was possessional. Two technician show up and get started with this big machine that i doubt did any suction...just made noise and blew air. And seems they secretly know how to control the gauge system on the machine to show the duct of a 8 yr new house is not working efficiently! So the lead tech comes and says the whole duct system is clogged up...we cannot proceed further and Full Deep cleaning $630 is required. If it was a professional company, they should have their offers, services, contract all legally on documents but NO! They don't even have a business address and their website is Fraud. I asked many times and (tech) said he would have all documents at the end of the job. They provide no estimates or quote and would not upfront tell the cost...were very misleading till you keep asking questions than you find out that each service is charged separately ..not included in the package he just talked about for so long. So, he starts persuasively telling all the health risks, mold etc, drawing diagrams on a sheet of paper, so persistent ...just pressure tactics to scare people and get them to agree to unnecessary work such as buying UV light system $600..which is useless after i did research online.
Honestly all they did was just vacuum the vents which i could have done. Sprayed some perfumed smoke...saying it sanitizes and kills all bacteria mold etc...and say that the smoke is leaking from ducts...so you need to seal those for $35 EACH ...which we can do ourselves with aluminum tape and silicone. they replaced a filter for $130 which we can buy and install for $50. Than they promise a warranty and service maintenance but their business is in ripping off other new customers, not serving the old ones...no profit there!

they received and "F by the better business bureau and have had many unresolved complaints

For verifying
contractors licensing board - www2.cslb.ca.gov

check out this site with article of the research conducted verifying this and 5 other fraud companies:
http://www.sacbee.com/2010/08/01/2926895/beware-of-air-duct-cleaning-offers.html

Bottom line...after I did much more research...THERE IS NO NEED TO HAVE DUCTS CLEANED UNLESS IF VERIFIED BY LAB ANALYSIS INDICATING MOLD. etc. ALSO, RESEARCH AND VERIFY THE LICENSE/ COMPANY AND GET 3 ESTIMATES from different co.

I think you're right about most of what you said. It seems that its hard to find good air duct cleaning companies with those coupons (I actually fell for one of those companies bulls#*T and ended up paying a lot of money..). However, I disagree about what you said as far as the need (or lack of need as you wrote) for having the ducts cleaned.
My doctor actually recommends having that service done about every 3 years. I actually felt a big difference with the air quality after I had my air ducts cleaned (but with a real company that provides a real service).
Just like with any service that you get, it is very important to check the BBB, Yelp etc... before you choose the company you're gonna use and learn from other people mistakes.
If you need a good company, so far I have used "Indoor Ideals" (A+ rated with BBB), "Fresh Environment" (also A rated), "911 Restoration" (rated A- and kind of expensive, but still do a good job). I used all three (I'm a property manager) and they all did a good job.

Elite Aircare FRAUD

I had Elite Aircare come to my home to perform duct cleaning. The technician "Nick" walked around the house and told me what they were going to do, he then had me write them a check (they wouldn’t accept credit card) He and the other tech then brought their equipment into the house and started to work. Nick spent most of his time smoking and trying to “up sell” me numerous items and services while the other tech supposedly cleaned the duct work. After about two hours, they said they were done, I pointed out that the dryer vent was still filthy and Nick responded that they don’t clean that (even though the ad stated free dryer vent cleaning) Nick did a lame attempt at vacuuming the dryer exhaust to appear that he had done something. I had other service providers coming and didn’t have time to fully inspect the work at that time. I did tell Nick that I wasn’t pleased with the work. After the other services left I looked inside a few of the ducts and they were still filthy. Elite Aircare didn’t do anything, apparently their service is all a fraud where they vacuum the registers and blow a perfumed smoke into the system and tell you it’s clean. The quarter inch of lint and dust still remained in the ducts. I called the office to complain and “Tim”, the manager, said they would have Nick return to redo the service. On that day, no one came. I called to complain again and they apologized once more and scheduled another appointment, between 9-11AM, again no one showed. I returned to work. At 5 PM that day, Nick called me and told me he was going to come to my house to do the work. I was flying out of town that evening and told him I wouldn’t be home. He tried to pressure his way to my house but I repeatedly told him that I wouldn’t be there. He told me I should schedule the appointments after 5 since he was busy. I told him, I didn’t schedule it, that is when his boss scheduled it. Apparently, they are more interested in finding new clients and scamming them rather than the satisfaction of existing customers. I took of two full days off work to be there and they didn’t show. I called to demand a refund but after numerous calls, the manager would not speak with me or return my calls. Elite Aircare claims to be Licensed, bonded and Insured – THEY ARE NOT – you can verify that on the Contractor State License Board website (WWW.CSLB.CA.GOV) they also claim to be supported by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) – THEY ARE NOT, they actually have an “F” rating. THEY ARE A FRAUDULENT SERVICE ONLY OUT TO RIP YOU OFF

I have a serious problem. The guys last week came to my house and changed air duct and insulation in attic. However, they did not complete the job, but have already charged my credit card for the service. Now when ever I call the office or cell phone number of the service technician, the call goes to voice mail. I have a broken duct and no one to fix. Who should I raise the complaint? Please help. Thanks

Same thing happened to me with a different company on those "coupons". I thought I'll be paying $65 and I ended up paying closer to $1300 and the duct weren't even cleaned.
I ended up calling a different company (I thing it was Indoor Ideas, or Indoor Ideals) and they did an excellent job. they charged more to begin with (I think it was about $120) and it took about 2 hours, but what can I say.. you really get what you pay for.
