County Car Rental Country Car is a scam, charging extra for made-up damages, stay away

We rented a car for 2 weeks, took good care of it, washed and vacuumed it before returning it. Their agent inspected the car, took the keys, did not provide any paperwork to note the car’s condition, with or without any damage. A week later, we received a charge for $993 on our credit card for a scuff mark on the bumper.

Country Car’s letter to us was so full of bogus, stating they “hand washed the car within an hour, found the damage and took pictures.” The ground around the car was perfectly dry. (Ireland isn’t Mexico). We spoke with ACE, the parent company, and Visa. Both were sympathetic and sided with us, but have not been able to provide resolution.

We followed the process, washed the car, returned on time, and still got charged. The return agent has no authority to determine the car’s condition and accept it back. The return process for Country Car is not like the US. Their car lot is the back of the Clarion Hotel near the Dublin airport, which is convenient.

But it does not have any facilities, (ie) an onsite car wash, regular attendant, etc. They have to drive the cars to a local gas station to refuel and wash. We feel Country Car is a scam, charging extra for made-up damages, stay away.

County Car Rental Poor service!

Several weeks after my wife dropped off a car rented from County Car Rental our American Express was charged for $1200 for damages. When the car was rented several areas were noted on the rental agreement showing damages that had occurred prior to the rent agreement.

Upon returning the car to the airport there was no one at the County Car Rental area, and in talking to other people in the area she found that was the norm rather than the exception.

Time came where she had to leave to catch a flight, so she left the keys and a copy of the rental agreement showing the damages on the counter.

After many complaints including conversations with Alison Kurnish, and fleet administrator Suresh Kumar, explaining to them that the repair bill sent to us included repairs for the damages that were already on the car at rental time, no relief was given to the charge.

We fell that this is a scam and you should stay as far away from County Car Rental as possible when traveling in Ireland.

FRAUD IN THE INDUCEMENT - I rented a car on-line from the US in Virginia. On the reservation form, I declined insurance, and was given a total rate of approx. $199 for the rental period. I checked with my car insurer in Virginia and was told that I was covered under that policy while in Ireland. Thus, when making the reservation, I checked the box indicating that I had declined insurance coverage. NO INFORMATION WAS GIVEN REGARDING A REQUIREMENT FOR SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE WHEN I RESERVED THE VEHICLE. I have double checked this on the reservation form, and I can present it if requested. I reserved the car based upon a materially false statement on pricing. On the morning of August 20, 2017 -- when I arrived in Dublin -- upon attempting to rent the car, I was informed that I MUST purchase insurance, and that the true price for the period rental was approx. $370.

EXTORTION AND ABUSIVE CONDUCT -- Representatives of County Car Rentals were abusive and threatened to refuse rental because of my inquiries and refusal to pay the extra amount. Ultimately, because there were no other vehicles available at other rental agencies, I was forced to accept terms that were never mentioned upon original reservation.

UNSAFE VEHICLES -- I was given a vehicle with a golf-ball sized bubble in the left front tire sidewall - a potentially lethal condition. Upon further complaint, I was given another vehicle.

The entire experience was miserable taking nearly 5 hours to simply leave the Dublin Airport.

This was all in striking contrast to an otherwise wonderful vacation

I confirm that experience. I paid about 500 € for nothing.
