America's Choice Readers Service Unjust billing

I was being billed by this company for $75+ dollars per month as a direct draft from my checking account. I don't know WHO or WHEN this alleged sign up occured to this service so I cancelled the draft from my account. I contacted them to ask them to please provide me proof that I had signed up for their service and all I have gotten back from them is a series of letters stating their intent to turn me over to a collections agency if I don't pay them $450 and more in fees. Each time I get a letter from them I put it in a file, then I draft a letter to them stating that if I owe them a dept I will surely pay it but I need some sort of proof that I actually signed up for their service in the first place. To date this has not occurec but I did get another letter from them in the mail today stating that they have now turned me over to a credit cand collections agency and the last line of their letter states "REST ASSURED YOU WILL BE INVOLVED IN A LEGAL PROCEEDING TO COLLECT THIS JUST DEBT." What kind of business is this? This is the most obsurd thing I have ever heard of.

I am warning anyone out there, if you have any contact with this business stay far away from them. I don't know how they got their hooks into me but apparently my credit is going to be affected by them if there is any merit to this letter.

I wanted to cancel my subscription with them because I was leaving the country I called several times and was given the run around. They keep sending me magazines and bills, and I had both my mother and sister call to cancel it because I was out of the country at this point. Beyond the fact that they kept hanging up on them, they have send me to a collection. I just want them to stop harassing me and for the bills to stop.

this company is an absolute scam. I've tried canceling. they offered to lower the payments and spread them out longer. after I told them no a million times they still said that I had an obligation to the magazine companies. blah blah BULLS***. even magazine companies allow customers to cancel subscriptions. to be able to cancel through the bank i have to call the company again and believe me I will be calling them monday. I am really to the point that I dont care if i get the $150 they've already charged back. I just want them to stop the charges. I've been sent one magazine since I started this and it wasn't even one of the 3 I was promised. yeah and those lovely add on services that they charge you extra for (without telling you that they're extra) try canceling if you can. those people are just as bad as the magazine idiots.

I was able to reach an agreement where I paid for the magazines they sent me and canceled the subscription after that point. I had reported them to the BBB and the State Attorney General for charging me more than I had signed up for. They had apparently threatened them with legal action unless they settled the matter with me. The settlement was $75, but I was happy to pay and just be done with it.

I tried to cancel subscription last year. They told me I can't cancel my subscription. That is outlandish. A customer can't cancel. I thought we had privileges and customers have rights. Where are my Consumer rights? Give me the law about scamming the American Publish. Unsuspecting innocent people are SCAMMED, just like Wall Street.

Did anyone have any success cancelling? I'm desperate! I want to cancel their ability to charge my card--but am afraid they will send my bill to a collection agency! I don't want to ruin my credit...but my oh my...over $900.00! We dont even receive all of the mags my husband ordered! If you've had any success, please share with us!
Thanks

I agree with all of you. I signed up accidentally. I just paid another magazine company $400 to cancel my package or whatever. Next thing I know this guy from United Readers calls me talking about I just want to verify the service you had. Me thinking okay maybe its for legal purposes got fooled into another package with this company. Mad as heck when I recieved a charge on my card I called the company and they said I signed up for 4years. WHAT!@! Why would I want to sign up for another magazine thing when I didn't want the first one. Then on top of that they only give you like 14days to cancel and I so happen to call only a month later. I plead and tried to cancel with them but they wont, so the magazines keep coming and the bills also. They call my cell phone and leave messages to call them back, but for what to pay the bill. Yea right!

ME TOO! I sent them 2 letters, and it said on the letter they sent us in the beginning that if at any time you feel unsatisfied with the service you could cancel by writing them a letter. And they too keep hanging up on me when I ask to cancel. I think I'm about to take it to court because the main reason i was canceling it was:

1) I didn't use the shopping spree because i lost that paper
2) They overcharged me 3 times, and they signed me up for other services i had not authorized, and i had to call my bank and get a regulation e-form for that, my bank called it fraud... i got my money back which was the good part.
3) i had to cancel my credit card because they kept taking money out of it when they shouldn't have

UGH! i also told them to stop harassing me with the bills or i would have my lawyer call them, so since you guys are in the same boat with me, I'll let you know what happens.

I too wanted to cancel but they would not let me. Also i am late for payments and they are overcharging me. I had a change of address. After i pay them i will never buy from them again. They promised a shopping spree which was junk and never gave me anything else after. It is very disappointing and i will report it if they do not give me a discount. They are more expensive than i thought.

I signed up through this company a year ago, i was supposed to recieve 6-8 different magazines for a few years and get a $1000 online shopping spree. The online shopping spree was a joke, the things you could buy i could buy everything in the catalog at walmart for %300 but each thing you wanted you would have to pay a big shipping and handling fee (FOR...
