Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Excessive horns and traffic question Rose Hill, KS

I moved to Rose Hill KS in October of 2021. I live 3 blocks north of the tracks. Can you tell me on average how many trains pass through each day. It seems like one every 15 minutes.

My issue is with excessive and inconsistent horn blowing. Some of these guys are laying on the horn over 10 seconds at a time. The noise is deafening. Even inside my own house.

The noise is so loud I have to pause everything I’m doing until the train passes. . I have heard of quiet zones. I love Rose Hill, but noise and the train traffic make it miserable to live here.

Desired outcome: I would like to have a quiet zone in Rose Hill. What steps do I need to take? Is there a way to notify the horn blasters to chill out?. Why do we have railroad crossing arms and lights and the horn blasts on top of it?

If I ever find out where one of the horn honking “engineers” of this company lives, I will sit in front of that home and honk my horn day and night while the “engineer” is trying to sleep just to make karma happen. It’s time to play dirty pool!

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Excessive noise

We live on Cabrillo Ave. in Torrance, CA. Near our home there is a BNSF railroad track crossing. Every night around 12:00 for the last few years we have train engineers that, while traveling through our neighborhood operate the train horn in a very inconsiderate way. They blast the horn repeatedly more than the 4 times required prior to each crossing. Our neighbors and us have complained numerous times just to see our voices ignored. We agree that it is vital to safety to warn traffic at all railroad crossings; however this excessive noise often wakes up a lot of neighbors around midnight when this is happening; and this includes families that have babies sleeping at the time.

Desired outcome: Instruct your engineers working in the area to be moire considerate to the community.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Train horn

The midnight train engineer, that travels through Torrance every day around midnight, deliberately blows its loud horn excessively and continuously as he approaches the intersection of Cabrillo Ave. this is intentional and obnoxious. I know they are required to blow it 10+ times prior to each intersection, but this guy blows is about ten of more times before each. This wakes up babies that are asleep at homes near the tracks and adults that work early shifts.

Desired outcome: Address the problem with thias engineer and ckorrect it

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Truck Driver

A driver in a BN pickup truck, WA license plate B09674Y was driving very dangerously this afternoon. The truck was heading west on Washington SR14 at about 4:45 PM on Wednesday, January 19 2022. The truck was travelling at excessive speed and the driver was tailgating and making erratic lane changes without signaling. This took place while it was getting dark and it was raining.

Desired outcome: Just thought you should know.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Excessive horn noise

I live in Mount Vernon, WA. In previous years I've used a white noise maker to block the noise of the train at night. The horns have now got so loud and are blown so frequently that the white noise maker now fails to block the train noise. As expected this is especially bad on a clear night. Between 1 and 5 am the horns and number of trains seems excessive. On some trains the horn blows the entire length of the town, It is impossible to get a full nights sleep.

Can the use of the horn be reduced? Short blasts with a lower decibel horn would enable the residents to get a better night sleep

Desired outcome: Go back to previous horn volumes with shorter blasts.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Horns

Way too heavy on the horns! Do we really have to jack the horn like something is in there way? I think not! Figure it out because I have osha and local authorities looking into the problem. If the engineer had a bad day so be it but don't take it out on the people that pay his salary! I'll make sure this is figured out trust me. I have a company coming out to do a decibel test.

I live out in the boonies where there is very little traffic during the day (trains blow a few short horn bursts at a rarely used crossing) and NO traffic at 2 or 3 in the morning when they blow their horn in long loud blasts for about 5 minutes. WHY!

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Assistant Foreman Mike in Skykomish Wa. deliberately blocking me access to my property with heavy equipment.

To Whom It May Concern:

The Assistant Foreman by the name of Mike in Skykomish WA. has been deliberately not allowing me access to the back of my property at 141 Dean ST. Skykomish Washington 98288 for no apparent reason by intentionally parking two front end loaders on my property line, 1 Case 950H and 1 Case 966M. I have nicely asked your employee on two different occasions when he has been using the equipment if he could leave me some room to get my truck in to off load building materials but, Mike just parks the loaders closer together claiming he has the right to not give me access since it is BNSF property. In which it is a BNSF right away but is under the town of Skykomish's jurisdiction since the towns water line runs through where the loaders have been parked. One other concerns beside your despiteful employee on a power trip, is that he has two pieces of equipment that weigh 45, 000 lbs each parked on top of the towns waterline that is only 24 inches max under ground. I have done nothing wrong to be singled out like this. There are two cabins past my house that use the same right away that I have been denied that do not get blocked in by Mike.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] Unnecessary and excessive train horn at 3:30-5 am through bellingham wa

Numerous times over the past month and repeated at approximately 3:30 am this morning [protected]), the NORTHBOUND freight train travelling into and through Bellingham WA, has had excessive and unwarranted train whistle activity!

This begins upon coming into Bellingham at this early AM hour, first at the Fairhaven Station, followed by every subsequent intersection through town.

At this early hour, with minimal traffice, there is NO need to lay on the horn for solid and lengthy Horn Calls! There is no, or very minimal traffic!

To lay the horn on solid, versus short duration toots, is rediculous and I feel excessive and perhaps even vendictive by the conductor!

Why NOT wake up this town a bit! So here you go, lay on the HORN.

The train goes through Bellingham often and regularly throughout the day. It is ONLY at this early morning hour, repeatedly that this occurs.

PLEASE, if somone can help, without pissing the conductor off further and he gets even more vindictive.

Thank you

Jon Brown

I second this, the train horns are excessive in the Fairhaven/ Downtown area. They are much less obnoxious during the day than they are at night. It really doesn't make sense since traffic is practically nonexistent at night. Also, they really need to do something about the screeching on the turns. I've heard of measures that are supposed to mitigate this noise. The most common measure is lubricating the tracks in the areas where the rail squeal is excessive.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] unsatisfactory rail bed repairs, edmond, ok 08/2019

Dear BNSF:

BNSF or its subcontractors recently repaired the rail bed at W 15 St. in Edmond, OK 73013/73034 at the RR crossing west of Boulevard.

The repairs included a concrete/steel bed (which is satisfactory) and asphalt road repairs (woefully unsatisfactory) on 15th St. in both directions, in all four lanes, west of Broadway at the rail crossing.

The asphalt paving patches done as part or the recent rail bed repairs are unacceptably rough/uneven at the posted 40mph speed limit. Even at 10-15 mph the bumps are unacceptable. I have observed vehicles bottoming out and work trucks and trailers nearly bouncing their equipment out the backs of the vehicles.

The roughness damages vehicles (suspensions and catalytic converters) and jars occupants.

Please redo the asphalt paving as soon as possible. Thousands drive this route daily.

Thank you for listening.

Sincerely
Dr. Edward Holmes
814 Pine Oak Drive
Edmond, OK 73034

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] excessive horn blowing in erie, illinois

Add a Comment
I have read your compliance on horn blowing for your engineers.

Would it be possible for your engineers to re-read them.
There are only four crossings in town within 1/2 mile give or take and this morning at 5:45am 9/23/2019 the engineer deemed it necessary to lay on the horn from one end of town to the other!
What's the deal?
As they go through the middle of town, especially when they know most people are sleeping, they excessively "lay on the horn" for extended periods of time! This occurs at all hours but they are really good at it between the hours of 12: am - 6am.
It is NOT in the accordance to your standards of " 2 short, 1 longer " horn blow for sure!

It is discourteous to those throughout the town.

Please help us as this is getting rather OLD!

Thank you,

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] horn & frequency

The trains horn is way louder and longer than normal, shaking my very insides. And too many trips on top of it all. What in the heck is going on? I have been here for a lot of years, and it has not been this loud, & frequent. Please turn it down and lighten up the duration of the blowing. This kind of over the top blowing is not necessary in this location. Someone is either doing this intentionally or made a command decision not thinking this through.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] railroad crossing condition

I was riding my road bicycle Saturday August 17, 2019 and went down CR319 in Alvarado. This took me across BNSF RR crossing at Baker Rd on CR319 Alvarado TX 76009. The crossing is in such bad shape that it busted my rear wheel. Luckily I am experienced enough that I carried my front tire over it or it probably would have flipped me. Carbon wheels are $1200 a set, so I am extremely upset that because of the condition of the crossing caused this damage to my wheel.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] too many trains and horns

I am complaining about all the noise we endure through out the work day. The trains blow their horns way too often and too loud. We must have 50 trains go by our business daily. We cannot communicate with each other in our shop, and or our clients either in person and on the phone. I would like a compensation for all the disturbing noise we have to hear all day, everyday.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] speeding train

Tuesday, June 18, 2019.
El Paso, Texas. Intersection of Doniphan Rd. @ Redd Rd. Just witnessed, and wouldn't be the first time, a south bound (into the city) train running incredibly fast in a residential area. I don't have a radar gun but that thing was MOVING. I estimate it to be in the 55-60 mph zone, and the speed limit for vehicles running parallel on Doniphan is 45mph.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] schedule

On Highway 199/Henderson St. just outside of downtown Ft. Worth, there is sometimes a train around 5:30 when everyone is trying to get home. Yesterday, 6/12/19, I waited almost 20 minutes for the train to clear. I can only imagine how far back the traffic was stopped. Most likely all the way through downtown.

Can the schedule be rearranged to avoid rush hour...whether it be morning or night?

Thank you,

Stephanie Carroll

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] trains idling for days on end! trains parked in residential neighborhoods with hazmat loads.

We live in Galesburg, IL. Unfortunately when we bought our house the realtor and previous homeowner failed to mention that trains sit out here in our backyard and idle for days! There has to be something that can be done about this! It's like some kind of Chinese Torture! That constant rumbling and rattling of our windows and everything on the walls. It's ridiculous! They are only a mile or two from the rail yard, why don't they sit out there and idle! Also we have noticed that there are trains parked out here with hazmat placards on them. That surely isn't even legal for them to do that. Especially when the train is unoccupied. Truck drivers aren't allowed to park hazmat loads in residential neighborhoods so why is this ok for a train that is several cars long to sit in a residential neighborhood with a whole string of cars with hazmat placards on them. This is ridiculous when we have a huge rail yard here in our town for them to sit and idle all they want! I hope something gets done about this . It is just plain torture! Very inconsiderate to the people in our neighborhood and I'm sure you could care less but I wanted to let you know that there are people that really do live here!

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] parked trains blocking main road

There is a tarred road in Ruthton that crosses over tracks. It is the main access road between two towns and is used often during the week for school staff, buses, and families to travel to and from school. It is very frequent that there is a train parked on the tracks blocking that access road, sometimes for days on end. This is potentially deadly as the only other access road to the school and town for someone traveling on the county road between the towns, is a gravel road. This gravel road does not have train track arms or lights. On this past Tuesday, 2/12/19, I had to take that gravel road and it got stuck on the tracks. We tried to get the car off the tracks and were unable to do so. We had to abort mission and the car was hit by a train going into the town from the other direction. The car landed about 100 yards further out. Had the paved road not been blocked by another train, this would have never happened. On the very next day, the paved road/intersection was blocked again. The train had been parked there for hours. This has to stop. Stop blocking that intersection. Stop forcing people to have to make an unsafe choice when a clear path is and should be available. Frankly, you ought to do the right thing and replace the car.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe [BNSF] excessive train horn blowing

BNSF Train #7116 came by my house on Monday, 2/4/19 at 1:40pm Central time. The train was blowing its horn excessively and long before reaching the area close to the intersection of T.C. Jester and 34th Street in Houston, TX.
This is not (yet) a quiet zone, however, all residents would like for BNSF to restrict excessive train horn blowing from it's employees.
Thank you
