Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Charged for a service not completed, being charged again to come back out to complete the job

Becareful using them! We called them out 11/18/23 to clear a line. They came out charged us $477 and said it was all cleared out and should run well now. Within 24 hours (night of 11/18/23) we are still not draining right from the sink and they are going to charge us again to come out instead of honoring wjat we already paid for because they found some hygiene products and roots in the line.

I completely understand the discovery of those items makes it hard for you to provide a 67 day warranty but you should atleast honor your work! If the job was not completed the first time and problem presents right after leaving the job, that implies the original work was not complete satisfactory and is not due to our miss use right after leaving.

Please stand behind your work so customers can trust that the work we hire you for is going to be completed and not that we will be taken advantage of by having to recall you and be charged again.

Claimed loss: $477

Desired outcome: Job completed without changing us additional service fees. Stand behind your work, the job was not completed.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork benjamin franklin plumbing - only wanted to do the easy repair and overcharged

Just moved into a house with a tiny bathroom. The toilet wouldn't fill and I checked the flow valve...it wan't working. I made an appointment and waited 4 days while I filled the toilet by bucket from the tiny sink next to it. When the plumber arrived, I told him that the valve probably needs replacing and also since I swiveled the neck back and forth to fill the tank, the goose neck was loose and I needed it tightened. He turned of the water, popped off the small supply line to the toilet, scraped out the gunk, reconnected the line and it worked... all in about 10 minutes. Easy problem solved and I was grateful.
To reach the goose neck faucet and tighten it, he asked me if I would remove every thing under the sink. Which I did quickly. While doing this, we discovered a leak that was damaging my wood underneath. I said "Great, I have a plumber here to fix it." What came next is beyond my understanding. He got under there to check it out and came out of the bathroom with a video. He said that he couldn't get to leak and I would have to take care of it myself. I may be wrong but isn't that why you call a plumber in the first place. You could at least call your supervisor. He wouldn't even quote me a price. He convinced me I had to fix it myself so I just agreed. It was unbelievable! I live a mile away and the service charge was $39 ok ... no problem. To clean a 1" screen he said I owed another $125.00 and on top of that, I would have to call a plumber to fix the leak that was damaging my wood cabinet. He said I could leave a bowl I just put there for up to three months till I fixed it myself.
The next day, I drove down to BF Plumbing to ask for a refund or at least get my leak fixed, after all that's what they do, I thought. The supervisor had trouble hearing me so I'm not sure he understood everything but he said he would confront the tech. The next day he calls to say the kid said that I would fix the leak... which was an outright lie. I am 61 years old and told them I can't do it anymore. He wanted another $185.00 to fix an actual problem and I said forget it. So I'm filing this complaint to anyone who'll listen. I work 2 jobs and rarely complain and it isn't even about the money so much as how I was treated and lied to. I still need this fixed but I'm not paying full price.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork pricing overcharge/work not done!

Asked BF to come out and fix a leak in water line at meter, I dug a hole down to expose the pipe, BF said the 3/4 in pipe was leaking and capped it. Stated it was fixed! Cost $592.00 30 minutes later the whole filled up with water. BF stated they would not warranty work unless I paid $1000 for a pressure reducer (which I did not need) $77 to come out, $320 for repair and $155 with no explanation on invoice! I questioned this and BF said it was to dig down to pipe. They crooks they steal your money! Do yourself a favor and not use this company!

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork as a former employee as of today...

I was terminated by your folks at the not so lovely Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and One hour Heating today in Montrose Colorado, and now I can speak my mind about the Owners of these 2 businesses Abigail and Eli Power! The reason I am doing this now is because I do not feel threatened no longer by their abuse of power and I no longer have to worry about losing my job or any type of retaliation from these 2 individuals. I have never felt so threatened so scared, and so miserable in all my life. This place is a hostile work environment, with yelling, cussing, screaming, derogatory remarks, filthy talk, the filthy language, these people do not deserve to be business owners, and I would love the opportunity to talk to someone in regards to this... My name is Edward Jones Phone Number is [protected] or if I cant talk to someone I would love to know how to file a complaint on these people. Thank you

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork 5 welds to copper pipe and new outdoor no freeze spigot.

I had BFP (Benjamin Franklin Plumbing) arrive to look at my shut off water as an old inside spigot would not shut off after an outside spigot had broke, leaking water outside. I showed the worker the problem and he would not replace the old garden spigot with a similar alike one. He said "we don't do those anymore". He said they put in "no-freeze spigots". I showed where I wanted a ball valve to have an emergency shut offloading outside as that old spigot under the kitchen in the basement did not shut off or close completely. He was putting in long outdoor spigot and was banging my air conditioner with the copper pipe. (Had to add touch up paint so it does not rust) He only put in total of 3-4 feet of new pipe welded together with new outdoor spigot, new nipple, new ball valve and cost was atrocious $756.00. He claims on receipt he put in 8 feet and a 10% discount after I gave him a coupon even! He is a liar!(Even if brick was 1 foot thick he only had trouble pulling old pipe out of it since it was built in 1944). He actually struck a line through the discount area! He first told me $656.00 and somehow added $100.00 for HVAC caulk. I told him I had caulk and would do that myself. He did not really want to honor the coupon! I am never using BFP ever again for eternity. This last worker just wanted to upsell all work and told me "If you get more work done you can save more". I doubt that. Their "straightforward pricing" is a sick joke! They damage property that has nothing to do with the job and then lie about it and overcharge because "It was in the way". They think the air conditioning unit is going to grow legs and move on its own out of the way? So why didn't he use short outside valve and flex tubing to bend tube around the unit? Copper is a dinosaur and they know it so in their shrinking business model, as more people use shark bite and gator bite parts they overcharge! Next time I have to just go to store and get those parts myself and save $600 dollars.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Sum pump w grinder replacement

Our pump went out and called them. They were able to send someone out on a sunday. It looks like we need a new pump (Which we thought was the case). They said the could get one the next day and come out and fix it. My husband met them back at our house today (Monday) to get it replaced. The tech that came out told my husband that the part and repair would cost $5, 000.00. My husband looked up the "great pump" and saw he could buy it online for $1, 000. Ben franklin was charging a 100% mark up on the part. Then my husband said, "so the remainder of your fee is labor then, right"? The tech said yes and tried to make it sound like a very complicated procedure and would take him 3-4 hours. My husband then said, "so that means you are charging $600.00/hr?

We got a local company who will charge a total of $1700.00 for parts and labor.

Benjamin franklin in the niceville, fl area should be ashamed of themselves. We will highly not recommend you to everyone.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork They do not have the tools to do the job and certainly they do not stand behind their word.

Our whole house backed up and we had so we called a local plumber who snaked the line. Two weeks later it backed up again. We called another plumber who also snaked the line. Two weeks later it backed up again. The second plumber offered to come snake it again, which he did. He took more time and suspect a break in the line. He took pictures of where he thought the break was and suggested calling a plumber with a camera to come look at it. It ran for about two weeks again and backed up 2 days before New Years Eve with a house full of guests. I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing because they "guaranteed" a time and their work and had fully outfitted trucks. I was given a four hour window the next day between 10a-2p. At 2:15p I had not heard from them so I called. They apologized and said someone had called in sick but that a technician had been assigned and would call soon. Two hours later I had not heard so I called again. They seem genuinely surprised and put me on hold as they tried to reach the technician. They said he would call soon. Two more hours later I had not heard so I called again. They put me on hold again and a supervisor came on and said the technician was stuck on another job but would call soon. Two more hours later (now 8:15p) I had to call again. Each time I spoke with the scheduling person, I had to run through the whole story and what I needed done, which included needing camera service. This time a new supervisor came on and said they just spoke to the technician and he would call me right back, which he did 15 min later. However, he said his equipment was across town and asked if he could come first thing in the morning, which was 10a. I said only if he could come earlier, so I reluctantly agreed to 8a. A different person called at 8a and asked me to describe the issues, which I did for the fifth time. He thought there might be something wrong with the line and thought a camera might be needed but he did not have one. He offered to snake it for $200 plus a service charge of $79. I said that would be fine as I thought it would at least get us though the holiday and then he could come back and fix it right later. We set a time and then I asked if I should talk to him or the people at the main number I spoke with the day before about the service time guarantee. Once I said this, he refused to come out and do anything for me at all. After a few minutes, he said he had a busy day, gave me the name of another plumbing company and hung up. I called the main number and told them about the situation and they were upset. They said they would have a supervisor call me back and get me fixed ASAP. They never called back. I called Sun Plumbing and they came out same day, found a break in the line, patched to get thing flowing and then came back a few days later and fixed it right. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is a joke. They do not have the tools to do the job and certainly they do not stand behind their word. Very, very disappointing!

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Repair of kitchen sink/ BID SCAMMERS!

On Dec. 23, 2015, my kitchen sink fell down from my granite counter tops. I called them because their ad looked good and they said they could come right out. (I was having out of town gusts to arrive shortly). I explained the problem over the phone and they said they'd be there shortly. As soon as they got there they started on and on about how the problem was so big it would take hours and first they needed a granite guy for the sink. They called some granite places they said they used. Then they said granite people don't do emergencies and they could do a temporary fix of the sing and fix all the other problems for $2, 400. I said no. Well, long story short I got the job done plus a new garbage disposal put in for $754.00 total. I had paid them $64.14 for the estimate. Since it was all a scam, I have asked for that money back from corporate headquarters but, have not heard from them yet. NEVER CALL THEM FOR ANY REASON! This was an obvious scam.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Overpriced work, scare tactics

I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing because someone in my church recommended them. We had just bought a 60 year old house, and the previous owner went all DIY on the plumbing system. Our inspector couldn't find the crawl space access, so the plumbing never got inspected (but that's a different rant for a different place). Our washing machine was overflowing the drain, and we needed options for fixing it. When BFP showed up, the tech showed me his little cost booklet, assuring me it protects me by preventing overcharges on their part. He offered to let me remove all of the paneling off the entire wall to avoid his charge for cutting a hole, but I declined the offer. He cut a hole and inspected the problem, and told me my galvanized stand pipe needed to be replaced for over $900. I asked him about replacing the whole cast iron drainage system, and he quoted me $2548 for the whole job (WITH the Ben's Society 10% discount, which cost me $119). I went ahead and scheduled the job, since otherwise, he was going to charge me the $59 service fee, plus $189 for unsuccessfully snaking my stand pipe, plus whatever cost for him to cut a hole in the wall (again, that's all with the 10% discount). When he removed my drainage pipes, he showed me they were all clogged up with sewage, and praised himself for recommending they all get replaced (my idea...). This wouldn't have bothered me, except he and his helper both at different times made me feel like they thought I was some snotty-nosed kid who knows nothing about anything (He also spent significant time in my kitchen on the first visit, discussing recipes with my wife, when he should have been working. I get that they want to be friendly, but that was extreme in my opinion). While he and his helper were working in the crawl space, they noticed multiple pinhole leaks in my copper, and refused to turn the water back on until everything got replaced. To perform this work, they quoted me $7300 (WITH the 10% discount...). Without even waiting to see what I thought, they asked me if I'd be using financing to pay for it, and were talking about ripping out the copper that night to get a head start (would have left us without water for at least 3 days in a row). They wanted to install a water softener ($2300) because my city's "notoriously bad water" was "eating holes in the copper, " and they were using other scare tactics like telling me the SharkBite fittings were illegal. They also found slight mold in the crawl space, and wanted to recommend their buddies in mold remediation (I had an expert inspect the space, and he told me it wasn't nearly as bad as BFP made it sound). I told BFP I was going to get a second opinion, and they offered to ask their boss to give me a $200 discount... I called Blessing Plumbing and Heating. Their tech tested our water, confirmed it wasn't hard enough to require a water softener, replaced the worst section of copper as a temporary fix to immediately get our water back on ($300), and quoted me $2660 to replace all the copper with PEX. THEN he counted the $300 as a deposit against the $2660, essentially fixing our leak temporarily for free! I will never use Benjamin Franklin Plumbing ever again. Give me the small, family-run company over the franchises every time. I've learned my lesson.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Service & pricing

UPDATE!
I called in another plumber who FIXED my faucet! with no issues at all! For 150.00 an hour. Total came to 325.88 which I gladly paid. Be assured that I am reporting you to the BBB and to any licensing agency I can for the price gouging antics and false information practices you employ. I am also expecting a full refund as stated earlier.

I also HAD the replacement part! While George was polite and courteous your outrageous pricing was price gouging. I was told he would TRY to fix my faucet for 298.00 with no guarantee that he would be successful and that to replace the faucet with your “beautiful plumbers faucet” standard on every plumbing truck would cost 750.00.
I paid your fee of 69.95 plus tax but in retrospect I think I should have been told on the phone that this was a job this man could not complete. I would not have had him come if you had been clear that this would be an issue. You are a plumbing company and as such know what you can & cannot do. Your taking my call with full disclosure of the problem beforehand was a deceitful business practice.
I therefore expect a full refund to my American Express card immediately.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Overcharge

All the repair required was to cut out 9” of faulty pipe and two connectors to fix leak. I had dug the hole and exposed pipe and had all ready for repair which would have taken me 20 minutes and $6 in materials, but as I did not have the materials or the time to go to Lowes as I was catching a 6am flight the next morning I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and explained the job, the person I spoke to agreed there would be no call out charge I left a signed check with my son. I was ripped off as I was charged $430 for this repair (invoice 398198)

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork False Advertising

Toilet broke and I was desperate..asked the girl on phone if they were associated with another plumbing company ( who I was very dissatisfied with and had gone out of business) and she said no. I told her I wanted the cheapest toilet and had seen one in Home Depot for $99. She assured me they have one that cheap on the truck. 2 plumbers came and said they don't have any that cheap and it was a flat rate of $479 plus another $200 for a broken valve. They did NOT have any toilet on the truck and said they would be back in 20 mins...came back 2 hours later.(probably went to Home Depot and got the $99 one) My total bill came to $800, and after discount it was $734. I asked again about that other company and they said yes it was them. Had to have them come back because toilet wasn't flushing right. Confirmed between noon and 4pm. At 4:10 I called the office and he said they were just going to call me. They walked in at 4:20 (plumber wrote time on invoice) They were going to charge me a $49 service call, but said it was n/c because the chain for the flap should have been adjusted. Their website says if they don't get here on time, the company will pay $5.00 for each minute they're late. They now owe me $100. For 3 days I have been calling them and now they tell me they don't have to pay because there was no charge for that visit, and the $ would have been taken off the bill. I argued that their website says nothing about that and just payment for being late. The woman was VERY rude and said I had to talk to the manager, who of course was a very busy man and he would get back to me. Oh, by the way, the manager's email address is his name with the other company.com. I spoke to a plumber my friend used and he said he could have done the entire job for about $400 and said I probably would never see any money from them. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER!

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork They lie to you about the price

Ben Franklin is a good plumber, but beware. They will quote a price over the phone or internet or newspaper which sounds reasonable. But when the guy arrives at your home he adds on this service and that service and the price suddenly has doubled or tripled. If you balk and tell him to leave, you still owe the $50 service charge.

Toledo Ohio Ben Franklin Plumbing is way overpriced for services. I used them to install sump pumps with 3 year guarantee. When I had them come out for routine foundation tile cleaning, they tried to get me to sign up for their "Society Membership." This is nothing but inflated pricing and discounts on overcharged products and services. When I said "no" the guy got real curt with me and told me my sump pumps were not under warranty anymore because I used iron out in my crock. I was never informed of not to use this and that warranty work would be negated. This is their way of not living up to the deal and getting out of the future liabilty that they originally sold me on. The owner never called me to re-capture my business--like a real businessman should try to do. They are not consumer oriented...will spread word in my development NOT to use!

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Sales only, no technicians

This is the second time I allowed this company in my home, and it was the second mistake. The first time (same man both times, Field Supervisor (really a 'salesman' only), ) the first time he came because I had no choice; they were the plumbing side of the company we used to install our air conditioner and they had to come and do their part. But the salesman, Dan Chauvette, took it upon himself to come into my kitchen and start running test on my water (from kitchen faucet) and of course proceeded to tell me how dangerous my water is; perhaps it is, however, I do NOT appreciate the approach of being made to feel like I am some selfish person if I don't install their water purifying system, as I am doing such 'damage' to my children. I was very irritated after he left that time.

This time, this week (March 2012) our water heater stopped working. My husband called this company, and very specifically detailed our type of water heater- and that we wanted an actual technician that was familiar with this type water heater. They said sure no problem. They would be there between 2pm and 6pm. My husband even left work at 2 to be here so he could explain the issues with the water heater. Hours pass. Finally, around 5pm, not sure if we called or they called us, someone was coming, but they were an hour away..ok fine. Then my husband called back to verify that this tech coming was again, familiar with unit. they called back 30 minutes later and said oh, well they have a guy familiar with this unit but was on a job and it would be at least another hour.

At 8PM, they FINALLY show up (I couldn't believe it was the same guy). He walked in and looked at it for about, tops, five minutes. Comes back out and said it is fried--oh but hey, I happen to have one on the truck I can install, and then pulls out the stupid 'price guide' and quotes $3200 for a tankless water heater (we didn't have before, we had 50gallon/gas). I asked him (I asked him for the cheapest one they had also, which was just a few hundred cheaper) to explain how much the unit and Installation separate...NOPE; this is our guide. His attitude was condescending, and not the least bit sorry how we wasted half a day waiting, (had to keep children up until he left as well).

Today I had another company. He came out within the hour of call--He looked at unit (for OVER 30 MINUTES), couldn't find the number for manufact, went in his truck and looked it up; explain the control panel was not working, etc. An ACTUAL TECHNICIAN! He said I will go back to shop and call you back with quote to replace that part, and cost to replace entire unit. $300 for part, $1800 for new unit.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Outrageous pricing

Well first they took me on a Stenner Chlorinating pump. The pump was leaking and needed some repairs. I was told that those pumps are not serviceable and it would be $900 to replace it. Believed them unfortunately and had them put in a new one. Then my 80 gallon Wellmate started leaking a year later. Well the tech walked in said you have to replace it those aren't serviceable. I just asked for him to look to see if a fitting was the problem instead of the tank. Did a half-assed job to see if he could spot the leak. Then quotes me for a new one at $3500. Now my system altogether was right around that price so I knew there was a problem. Called up a local Well guy. Told me if the tank is leaking he would try to repair it or show me if the threads were cracked rendering it useless. This guy quoted me for a new tank installed $600. And plus he said the old Stenner pump is easily serviceable and could be fixed on site for a minimal charge. The pump if it had to be replaced again would only run around $300. Benjamin Franklin mark ups are ridiculous. I will never call these ###-bags, again. Fool me once...

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Repair of Gas Fireplace

Called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to repair a gas fireplace because they advertised that on their website and they are well know due to their TV ads. 1st discovered that the tech did not know much about gas fireplaces - second the pricing was outrageous. My wife took the day off to meet with the repairman and was pressured to sign an agreement. Tech first said he was sure there were spider webs in the gas line and he would have to take it apart to clean. He said it was extremely complicated and would cost $525 and since he was already there we owed him a major part of that charge. After "cleaning" (about 30 minutes) he claimed it was now most likely a bad gas valve and that he would have to get one and come back to install. This would be several hundred dollars for the part and another $525 service charge. So far we have paid over $500 and nothing has been done. To have them back would be close to $1500.00 for a simple replacement of a natural gas valve. I would avoid this company at all cost. Very over priced, not knowledgeable and uses a pressure scheme to get you to keep adding more cost. After this experience I looked up reviews and numerous similar complaints have been filed against this company nationally.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Sckon

I saw a TV Ad for Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and thought that is exactly what I need. The Ad says "any drain, any time for $76". I had a low maintenance, slow drain in the kitchen. They advertised $76, but the price quickly tripled when he walked in the door. He told he had to add a $49 service charge for coming to the house (like he could fix it otherwise). He had to add additional service charge because it was a difficult access job (it was a kitchen sink, not drain under house). I told him to forget it and he said I still owe him the $49 service charge for coming to my house to lie to me.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Overcharging, poor service

There was a leak in my basement on my Manobloc manifold system. The plumber came on Saturday morning and said it is the pipe fitting leaking and changed 2 foot of pipes from PVC to PEX and reused the copper fittings and charged $450. The leak got worse and they said they wanted to replace the manifold for another $985. I told them to leave after paying the $450. Called a few other plumbers to provide estimate and they all said the manifold system is known to have 10 years warranty so the part is free and labor is $200-$300. Benjamin Frankli plumbing in Indianapolis area is a scam and rip-off. They cause my leak to get worse, changed 2 pipes and charged $450 after 6 hours of doing nothing in my basement. Do not use them unless you have a lot of spare cash and patience to deal with ignorant plumbers...

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Over Priced

I had a minor leak. I called Benjamin Franklin. Upon the plumber arriving, I was immediately pitched on Benjamin Franklin Plumbing ‘s reasonable pricing. When I showed the plumber the minor leak, he informed me he could fix the leak in 15 minutes. Then, the plumber informed me the repairs would cost at least $370.00. What a scam.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing / Clockwork Overpriced plumbing repair

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing in NE Ohio is expensive and has a generic pricing structure that is meant to confuse the customer. Look for a reputable handyman. Most plumbing jobs require muscle, tools, and a year of experience. Don't pay too much.

Technician was given list of three things that needed to be done. Tech didn't know he turned water off outside. Drove back to warehouse to get special tool. Still didn't know water was off. Then, bent main pipe to kill water flow unnecessarily. We paid $150 more for the extra work that wasn't even needed. Next time, turn the water faucet on to determine if you were able to shut the water off outside ***! The hole is like 4 feet deep. Did you really not feel the handle turn.
