Belk company policy

I originally came to this site to complain about an associate at belk. The woman literally yelled across the store, "do you have a card with us?" I told her I thought I did and she asked if she could check. Originally, I was going to complain about her. But you know what? I read the other complaints against this company, and I am not complaining about that woman. That woman was desperate to keep her job. Instead, i'm complaining about this insane belk policy! I understand that belk makes a great deal of money from interest fees. But it seems the focus of the company has shifted from selling quality items and providing exceptional customer service to mediocre items and employees who's jobs depend on your credit. Ridiculous! Belk needs to get a clue. I'm cutting up my card and hope others will do the same.

Also, it would be nice if the company provided new flooring for all belk stores. I've never been into a belk store that didn't have carpet that was caked in chewing gum.

Shes just saying that she feels sorry for us at this job that we have to pray on peoples credit to keep our jobs and our pay. making a dash to beat the other sales ladies to a customer, they resort to desparate measures. i wouldnt want to support a company that focuses on greed forgeting the needs of the customer and employee. if they arent making corporate richer they get pay taken away hourly. Punishment for not forcing a customer to apply for credit in a horrible economy. Horrible place to work which is why theres such a high turn over of employees. we all wait for something better to come along and bolt for the doors.

When we gather for our morning huddles at this work place thats all we talk about is how many credit cards we opened. the sales team get cash rewards for you applying even if you are declined. theres no focus on a clean friendly affordable store. sales team gets money taken out of their checks if they are not selling as much or opening credits.

Belk treating emplyees bad

The management staff is no so mamagement staff they talk down to you and make you do work that they think they are better at doing so they have other people do the jobs that they dont want to do and have other people do the job that that other associates dont want to do and treat you like you are a no so good person and doing double work cause they dont know how to communicate with the associates and treats everyone like they dont know how to do there job and they look at the associates like a number you can get replaced and threating you when it comes to your job and you have to kiss managements behind and be in a "click" with the management to get the special treatment.

Belk amount owed

I was in the store on thursday and was going to purchase some items, was told that I could not purchase anything because I owed
$9.00 on my bill. Now I have been a good customer with belks and have paid my bill on time and most of the time have overpaid. I was very insulted and horrified that customer service was so cold and uncaring that I have now cut up the card and will never use
Belks again.

Belk returns

Wife purchases 4 pillows. I returned 2 as they were like using a beach ball. Having the original receipt, they claimed one of the pillows was not on that receipt. They did verify it had been purchased with my master card. (How?). They refunded me fifty cents on the dollar. Two things; the computer obviously had wrong bar code info and/or they are skimming the proceeds. I have forbid my wife from patronizing belk further. I am cutting up my belk credit card w/o telling them.

You are a freakin' idiot. How did they verify it? By entering your mastercard in the computer. You are returned exactly what you paid by the method you paid. Gone are the days that you could buy something for one price and get more back when you return it. But, if it makes you happy, keep looking for misery and drama...You received what you paid--thanks to Belk's updated system or the manager that looked up your purchase on the computer...

Belk fraud

Your website is the most difficult of any other sites I use to pay my bill on line. I couldn't remember my password, although I have it written down.
All your site would do is reset my id which I did not need to reset.

Most difficult to find your site to pay bill. I usually get your page to make purchases.

Belk belk complaint

Ok let me start out by saying that I had been working at belk for 4 years and they finally decide to get rid of me. Okay well I was glad anyways because really they was trying to get rid of me anyways just to be honest. Ok I get a final warning from being late are you serious for real. I dont understand because really we had a new manager come into the store after the old manager left or got fired or something. I think someone in the store got him fired because he really was doing his job towards the associates. If he got onto you that meant you were in trouble but I guess they didnt like that so they used things against him to get him fired. It is so disfunctional up there. Peope just dont know what is going on in that store. It is a bunch of women up there gossiping about what this person sales are and why they are at the register all the time. What they should have been doing was their job because if they were doing their job then they would not have to had worry about anything else anyone was doing in their department. They based it on all just one department because they shoe department got all the sales. I didnt think that was right. We finally got a new manager and it went downhill from there. It's like soon as she came things started to happen like people starting letters on me saying I was rude and etc but the names on the letter were people that didnt even exist so basically someone was trying to get rid of me and I hope they glad because they got their wish but god is above it all. I would never want anyone to lose their job because every side has a story. I was getting letter wrote on me every month and it really was unnecessary I mean people were being childish. I didnt understand at that time but I see everything clearly now. On another note, when you go and talk to the manager about certain things it is suppose to be confidential but then again why am I hearing about what happens about what I talked to her about. The manager is very close to certain associates in the store and I have reason to believe she was discussing what was being talked about in the office. One incident happened when another associate had to go into the manager's office and do something on the computer or take a conference call and she found out the pay raises and pay cuts on the manager's desk and she went and told everybody in the store how much we are going to make before we even knew how much we made yet. I dont think that was right at all and to top that other people in the other belk stores knew about how much we made also and they come back asking other people in the store saying what department is the money maker in the store. That was really foul and she should have lost her job for that because just because she isn't making that type of money that is her fault not mines. So much jealously was going on the store and they still hold a grudge because they wasn't making that type of money. I mean when you work hard for the kind of work you do you get rewarded. It was so much that goes on and I could not take it anymore. Favoritism in the store was not right, you suppose to treat everyone equal not take someone else's words and dislike that person. I mean every since that new girl came in the department that I was working in it was problems from then on. I was started to be called into the office about stupid stuff why am I not getting alone with people and I was saying what? I had been up there for 4 years and now a problem occur. I just didn't get it but I am glad because god has something better for me planned. People jut stand around talking like it is nothing and something should be done about that. One or two people do all the work in the department. I had recently received employee of the month for july but the manager didn't really say anything encouraging about me that she had seen or wrote, she read what other associates liked about me and why they felt like I should become the employee of the month. I can tell when people don't like me, I wasn't yesterday. Shge didn't like me from the start but she dealt with me because I was a fellow employee for that long. She came from another store and really to be honest when you become a store manager you suppose to know how to do everything not just a couple of things. I mean when you take on that position you become a professional person and that is not what she is. She is loud and talks to certain employees too much in her office. I believe sometimes people just go in there to just complain on other but they do not understand they are hurting people and it is not that serious. I have put up with a lot and I had got to the point where if I had a problem I kept it to myself because if I told her then nothing would had been done about it like for real and that is not the type of company that I would like to working for. I know every job has its days but then again when this stuff keeps happening then someone is not doing their job. People go on their break and stay late for about a 30 minutes or close to an hour and we only get an hour so you know management is not doing their job properly so they say they are. Something needs to be done and that is not right at all that certain people work hard and get no appreciation for it and people that half drag at stuff gets all the glory for things in the store. There is no I in team basically we didn't have a team up there and honestly I am glad I do not have to deal with that anymore being stressed out about the things that other peope have to pick up the slack for other associates that work so hard (Not). One incident that happened was last year when we had a leak in the stockroom and the tiles were leaking more in one place back there. It had mold on certain tiles and towels were back there, wet floor signs, mops back there. I mean we are supposed to be the associates you are suppose to look after our safety and all they cared about was us making our sales goal. It had a mildew smell when you walked into the store and that was ridiculous. Two of us decided to write osha so that they could get it fixed and they finally did but really they only repaired it not fix it.. The tiles then became wet again when iy heavily rained back there and we kept telling them about it and they kept holding it off. The smell had us gagging and plenty times we almost fell back there in the stockroom by the water on the floor had seeped through the towels and the towels began to have a smell on them. Now that was disgusting and buckets were back there filling up where tiles had leaked through. I took pictures of it and should have sent it to osha but I didn't because they said they were going to get it fixed. Management does noty care about anyone but themselves and they ought to be ashame of themselves but all they want is that money. Belk policy is that the customers are always right but what about the associates because we do have a choice, too and also we help make that store look the way it does. I just hope this touches someone heart after all the things I had to endure.

Belk unprofessional

Belk's in gulf coast town center... Very unprofessional employees and manager! Had sales on purses and employee was moving them to a lower discount/sale price. She told me "all these r moving to the $9.99 rack if u like any of them". They were very nice and I found one that I liked. I asked her "these r $9.99?" she said "yes but the ones on the floor here r $19.99". I found one of those for $19.99. Walked around for a few and employee (Lois) was showing me some others that were also $9.99. After I decided to get the 2 that I liked and went up to the register, the cashier rang them up at $29.99 and $19.99. I said no and explained what I was told and even went to show here where they were located w / the $9.99 sign. She took the sign down and said they sale didn't start til 2pm... It was 1 pm and still, that was the price listed. We finally got the manager and the manager told me "sorry, it's not $9.99 but 40% off". I told her that wasn't what I was told and she told me "take it for that or don't"! I have never had a business put items up w / a sale price and then doesn't honor that price! Instead of losing $10 they lost a $30 sale and a customer! I will never go back and neither will my friend that was w / me. How very unprofessional of "belk's"!

i work at one and the sales even confuse us when we are marking and lableing. I hate it. why not make things simple and easy for the customer. and you get 5 different responses when you ask someone a price or what the sale is. i have seen things go on sale for 9.99 then the next day its a doorbuster sale for 14.99. hike up the price and still call it a sale. im starting to see why most employees are leaving. when you loose customers you loose money, no money means no hours for us to work. Go to Khols or Ross, name brand for better price.

You are absolutely right. You would get a better and cheaper deal at a flea market, because the buyers only paid $3-$5 dollars for that purse.

Belk do as I say, not as I do.

As an employee at belk, I can safely say that nothing is ever good enough. So you get your sales and credit apps, great! Now you have to do more and more and more to maintain that to keep managers and regionals off your ###. The same can be said for sales. So your store/area does a great job and goes higher than your sales plan. You don't even get a thank you or great job it's, "great now do it again everyday. " so as the ceo's and regionals pad their pockets from all of your hard work and pay you minimum wage. So you have to do janitorial work, stock, merchandising, endless tasks, and customer service all while maintaining your sales per hour, your credit apps, r. C. C. , and take customer's s***. Then only to have your staus check/review to find out you are getting a pay-cut. Then realize this entire company is a crock of bulls*** and sucks your soul away. So if any of you belk employees out there feel the same way or would like to vent your endless frustrations, please feel free to comment.

I totally agree, the way this company treats their associates and is then transposed on to their customers. Then the execs sit behind their desks in their plush offices scratching their heads and asking, "Why has our R.C.C. score dropped so low?" Wait...I know the answer. You make them clean up customers ###, literally and figuratively. Then cut their pay and wonder, "Why is associate turn-over so high?" To all these questions there is a very simple answer...Respect. If you would increase associates pay and hire more associates, so associates don't have to do 3 jobs in 1 and foremost, treat them with dignity and respect. Then they would exceptionally nice to customers, no matter how rude they can be. Which, would increase sales and spread positivity about the whole company. Any other Belk associates have any comments on this subject?

To OUR FEES, this is a complaint page (guess thats why they called it Complaints Board) so everyone has a right to rave about their issues. in an economy like this its hard to get the job you really want and your stuck with what you can get until something better comes along. if i had read this page before appying i would have never worked for them. i just started a few days ago and its horrible. i did not know there was so much wrong with this company. They show lack of respect for their employees and take from paychecks if sales arent great. you cant play with peoples money like that when we have bills to pay. Thank goodness i have another job lined up. this is just something to fill the gap.

And, I take it, YOU have NOT made ANY effort to better your situation. You could look for a better job, but I don't think you will find one. I would bet a paycheck on the fact that you have looked half heartedly, if at all, and you could not find a better employer that is more willing to accomodate its employees, nor pay better. Or are YOU one of the many LAZY employees in todays world that just wants to complain because YOU cannot perform in todays market? MY ADVICE... Find Another Job, and a better employer, STOP ###. Or, What A Concept, Just DO YOUR JOB!

Executives in this company with genuine intentions are few and far between. It is sickening that these people can sit in front of someone and justify giving a hard working individual a HEALTHY pay CUT... the individual that is on the front lines, working hard for how long (doesn't matter) ... putting dollars in the register that only certain few reap benefits from at the end of the day, while "seasoned managers" (the certain few) sit in offices and talk s*** about everyone on payroll.
This company needs to get it together, take a hard look at itself, and ACT on a change! It starts from the top... I hope those walking stores in their suits hear some of these voices of the THOUSANDS of loyal, hard working employees that make this company those billions in revenue! Without your people, you have NOTHING! And you're losing the good ones one by one!

Belk their policy on late payment

I called the customer service department wedesday about 3:30 pm. Spoke to jackie I think because I spoke to two people that day. I was told that if I did not pay my bill which was $18.31 on time it would cost me $18.31 and maybe $1. Oo. That really made me upset, one this was the first time I was going to be late and I have been a customer since 1989. I told the person that I was talking to that you were thives, that is stealing money from people and closed my account. She said if you would payed your bill on time you would not have this problem, she was and is rude and she was a superviser, she needs to react to the customer which was me in a better way. The person that closed my account is the one i'm writing about. I think you would want to keep a person like myself by giving a grace period instead of losing her bussiness because of your ridicolus policy.

Belk denial of injuries at work resulting in denial of workers compensation benefits

I have been an employee of belk in savannah, ga for several years and injured my back while moving stock. I was unpacking boxes and could not stand back up because of the pain. A co-worker of mine was standing there and I made her aware of what was going on. She called the asm who wrote up the report and told me to go have it looked at. I went to the er and was then referred to the orthopedic doctors that are on our panel. After only a couple of visits, belk has decided that I faked the injury and my workers comp benefits were denied. I have been fighting this for almost a year and paying out of pocket for medical bills. The injury is in the back and is mostly soft tissue strain and also now severe sciatica. They are claiming that there is no way I could have received these injuries as a result of bending over unpacking boxes. If anyone has had similar experiences at belk or with risk enterprise management, the insurance carrier, please let me know.

Oh my gosh, you know I was hired as sales there I won't say what line, and they told me they were going to
bring me in the back way? Whatever that is, and I had worked for them before and it was fine. (another location) Well
I spoke to my atty and since they told me I couldn't make commission yet, even though my background check came back
fine, they told me that I wasn't in their system on payroll, so that being I wasn't in workman's comp. My atty told me Not
to go back until I was put in the system, I asked them when I would be in the system, and they said a week or so, I asked
them to call me when they got that added in, well they did Not, and I am NOT rehireable. I am glad though at least I can move on with my life.

Oh my goodness I wouldn't work for them even if someone gave me a million dollars, they are bullying company and
not nice at all. UNBELIEVABLE! Never ever had this issue, and I really don't care to shop there anymore either.

Belk floor worker in women's dept

My friend was trying on dresses this evening. The floor worker was concerned it was too late to do this because if would require her to put up items before she got off work. It was 8:30. When my friend went to purchase her items, the worker said she had to put up any unwanted items first before she could check her out.
My friend wen to the juniors dept to check out. The young cashier said she had already closed out her drawer and would not help her. However, a cashier named Stella was extremely polite and waited on my friend.
I wish Belks would go back to commission so customer service would be better.

Belk credit

As an employee of belk of concord, I have been hounded since day 1 about my performance in opening credit applications (The belk credit card) to my customers. I have been told it is a requirement of the job and I am to solicit credit to everyone. I understand that this is important, and I have done so. However, it is obviously out of my control whether or not people take me up on this offer. I do my best, but to my managers, it is never enough. Notwithstanding that in these hard economic times, folks are not interested in opening credit, I have been disciplined, harassed, brought into meetings and hounded on an almost daily basis about credit from my managers. Recently, and this is the nature of my complaint, management drew up on a chalkboard, every employees name in one of two categories they rudely labeled "zeroes" (Who haden't had a credit in a while) , and "heroes". I was appalled that I was a "zero" to a company I have worked hard for, for over a year. I am a full-time employee, and always work very hard. The interesting thing is, I heard that a customer who was waiting on line for gift wrapping, saw this board and complained to belk. A day or two later, management replaced "zeroes" with "almost heroes". Honestly, all I really am concerned is that at the time of my review, managers do not deny me a pay raise solely based on my credit performance, or worse, fire me. I always solicit credit to my customers, and I have gotten some applications along the way. Just not the 1 application for 19 hours worked that belk requires. Belk puts credit applications in their top priority, even above sales, attendance, hard work, or any other criteria. I believe the entire sales force at concord belk would be in agreement on that, and everyone was very turned off by the zero/hero nonsence of recent weeks. This store is like the titanic, going down in a big way. I hope I get another full-time, permanent job very soon. I've been looking for a year already. Management is very demeaning. As an aside, our store manager made me cry the way she was talking to me over the christmas season. She was upset that the merchandise was in disarray, and after I worked on straightening it for 2 hours, she got an attitude with me at closing time. I was very hurt, as I worked hard in my dept that evening to clean and staighten. The merchandise was too packed in there, and there was no room for all of it, it was impossible to get it looking good at that volume. Our store manager never lends a hand to help straighten anywhere in the store. She can't even operate the register, but asked me for help one time on the register. It's truly pathetic. She is the main reason our store is in bad shape, and the customers are unhappy. It trickles from the top down, and we have lost great salespeople due to her inability to treat people with any respect. I hope it makes some difference that I wrote this complaint. I have seen many customers extremely unhappy with our store, because either they cannot find someone to help them (We are severly understaffed) , or because the store is a mess (Again... Understaffed). I feel bad for the customers, because the store is a huge disappointment, yet belk wants to milk these people of every penny. Alot of the merchandise I sell comes back as returns, because frankly, it is junk. It is just falling apart. I even bought a pair of pants at my own store, for work, and before the day was up, both hems had opened up. I never even washed them. I returned them because I wasn't about to sew them, only to have the butt fall out next. I personally shop elsewhere, because if I want junk i'll go to walmart or goodwill, and at least pay a lot less. I hate working at belk. I used to like it for the first few months, but now I know better. I hate being treat worse than a little child. I've been in the work force for 18 years. I know a thing or two.

I agree. Belk is beyond horrible! You're set up to fail constantly so they can get rid of you! We even had an ASM fired for being gay! And Pentecostal associates can no longer wear skirts (even though their religion dictates it), and we're not even allowed to use the restroom unless we're off the clock! You know all those stories about Wal-Mart? Belk is 1, 000, 000 times worse! Christian company my hiney!

KUDOS to those brave souls that have endured the harassment, stress, demeaning, discriminatory practices at BELK. If you want your nerves shot on a daily basis, then this is the place for you! If you want to be mocked, ridiculed, brow beaten, worked to death, shown no respect, written up for untruthful complaints, then by all means work for Belk.
These people are in such a "bubble" they have no clue what so ever on how to manage, or treat people. I have been in the workforce for over 40 years, and by far this has been the absolute worse company to work for ever. Nothing better to do than chastise, undermine, their work force. DISCOURAGEMENT is front and foremost. Unparalleled discrimination in all forms to include RACIAL, PAY, DISABILITIES, and Harassment. If they are not gunning after you, they are attacking your peers, which in turn causes a hostile work environment. This company is ripe for a class action lawsuit. Anyone interested?

Update, I was fired from Belk, but truly they did me a favor. I have a better job now, I am being compensated very fairly for my work. I made more money per hour in just my 5-month probation period than I ever made at Belk in two years. I also recently received a good raise on top of that, with another raise expected in August. I never shop at Belk and I still carry a grudge and tell anyone who shops there about my experiences. I hate to feel this way, but that company treated me and all my co-workers unfairly in all aspects. It's too bad I didn't just leave sooner, but I have a child to provide for, and so that is why I was sticking it out as long as possible. I do everything for my child, so I didn't see the overall picture of how I was being abused there. I am thankful I found something better, good luck to anyone stuck in a bad job. There is always a way out, just never give up. Belk can implode for all I care.

I work at Belk's also everything you say is true. I make min wage and have been there 6 years. We are expected to do the job of three people and our carpet and walls are nasty . Our store manager treats you like a piece of crap unless you are one of his favorites. Pets don't have to do stock or work nights. They can hug the registor and hog all the sales and credits while we do their work.

Belk seasonal employee

I was a seasonal employee at belk and I have to say that this is one fly by night, slimeball operation if I have ever seen one. This is probably the worst company I have ever worked for in almost 20 years of working. I enjoyed the job itself and dealing with customers but the company is absolutely horrid and managements unprofessionalism is beyond the pale. My honesty was questioned multiple times because I was a new associate and they didnt know me well even though I never did anything dishonest or below board the entire time I worked there. Management would wait an entire month or more before they would address issues and then would talk to the store manager instead of getting with their employees about anything that needed to be addressed. Really, if its that old and nobody has said anything about it yet, dont bring it up at all. About 80 percent of the store would quit in a new york minute if they had other jobs and the store manager was clueless. I was called in by the manager to discuss my "disturbing behavior" which was the fact that I wouldnt tolerate associates being rude to me in front of customers, bellow across the store like rednecks whenever they were displeased, treat me or other associates like dirt whenever they felt like it and bad mouth other associates in earshot of the customers. Because I would explain to certain ###s that I had no desire to deal with that garbage at a part time seasonal job, they felt threatened by me and went to complain to management. Politely asking a rude associate to not argue with you in front of clientele is apparently disturbing behavior because after all, who should be arguing with a pacesetter that has been with the company for 17 years even if the woman is a rude ### that smarts off to customers and treats associates like dirt because they are seasonal. Seasonal and stupid both start with s but thats the only thing they have in common. Management would often threaten peoples jobs and talked down to associates about not getting enough credits or sales even though people were busting their humps there to get the sales and make the customers feel important. Mr belk couldnt get a clue on how to run a successful business if he was standing naked in the middle of a field full of horny clues with clue musk rubbed all over his body. Our store manager was a lot worse. He was a total tool and one of those howdy doody school boy types who has absolutely no clue how to run a retail business. And whats worse is belk requires that management have college degrees. Now thats real rich. I dont know what schools these idiots went to but apparently they all sucked.

Same at our store in VA. Employees are quiking left to right. no two weeks notice. I hear all the horror stories from those who have been there for so long. Im been there for a short time and am just now seeing what they where all talking about.

Belk cleaning

I like going to belk and love the stuff they have, but at christmas I went to the bathroom upstairs and I was shocked how nasty it was! I said somthing to one of the sales personal, and she said I know they are and how sorry she was, I said I am a housekeeper and have been for years, and for that type of store to look like that was unbelivable! And then I just went back in jan and looked at the shoes, and the carpet and the floors were so bad! I ask someone who worked there was there a big sale or something she said no I said the way the store looked it looks like it! The hole store over all looked so bad!

Bathrooms cleaned each morning and are immaculate. If the lovely ladies would stop ### all over the walls, everything would be O.K. As for the odor--it's a ### house. It's funny that the mens room stays O.K. Department stores are not required to provide restrooms (only restaurants are required). Stop taking laxatives and going to Belks. Women are pigs! ### into the toilet and put that paper into the toilet. Throw your paper towels into the trash can, Diva! Also, cleaning crews cannot make YOUR ### stop stinking...

I worked at Belk for 2 years, until just recently. In the Concord, NC store, the bathroom can be used by the public or employees. There is an employee bathroom upstairs, but it is far away. So often I would use the public one. There were many times where I walked right out, because the smell was overpowering. It was usually disgusting in there, in terms of feces all over the toilets seats, cracked floors around the toilets, and the general smell that often made me gag. Employees complained to salespeople all the time, Salespeople complained to management, but it did nothing. I swear they cleaned it once a day, if that. Even during the holidays. Awful and a health hazard. Belk should be ashamed of themselves. I've never smelled a worse bathroom anywhere, or seen such filth. I've seen gas station bathrooms more clean than Belk, by far. This company is beyond greedy, and will not allocate money to cleaning crews. The health department should go in there and inspect, if they can stand the smell. I've cleaned bathrooms daily when I worked in gas stations. I hope this company fails, because they've hurt many ex-employees and many people along the way, to reach their profit goals. They also brag about how charitable they are. It's all a farce. They treat people like ###.

Belk employee

I wanted to make a complaint and have customers' as well as any Belk employee aware of what happened to me. I am going to proceed to contact their HR regarding this.
I was offered a position at a certain store in Georiga, and I was so happy to get that job! Well, later on, I found out they had done no background check, and they couldn't process me into the system without the background check, Anyways, they just basically threw me on the floor to do alot of stock work, I didn't get a view of the store from anyone, I had no employee number, and the sales that I did sell, I had to give them
to someone else to ring on their number, all because they started me before the background check came back. I basically told them I would NOT start without one, also being that I had no background check (which everyone who works there has had) I couldn't even get short term or longterm disability if something had happened to me on the floor, doing all of the stock work. So I left them a voicemail and told them I wouldn't be back unless this was done, strangest thing, I haven't heard from them since. So if you do accept a job with them, please be careful, and make sure they have all of their ducks in a row before you step a foot on the sales floor. I will not be going back, and not working or shopping with them again. I also did Not want them coming back on me for anything, so I quit.

I have also worked at BELK for 3 years. This place is the biggest joke. They sit and coach you on the surveys about the managers performance. Like wth just let me answer how I want. Then there is a salaried asm and a sales associate dating and the store manager is doing everything in her power to cover it up. They underpay you and expect u to do the work of 10 ppl. All they care about is credit. The company is so cheap they make the associates use cash, check or a BELK card. They refuse to pay the fee for processing a debit or credit card other than their own. This place is a joke and if I had the option to leave I would. I stayed a little too long and now I'm stuck until I find a job with better pay.

I worked at BELK .this is my story:I have been with Belk going on 3 years, I enjoyed it at first, but then they are starting this ROC_THE_DOC thing so they lower my pay and then give me a HOURLY PAY INCREASE.when i first started it was 141 to 179, and NOW its 186..I work in the mens and kids dept. we can barley get sales thier so how can they do that to us...and to get credit its even harder.THEY ARE NOT TO FAIR...but if you work SHOES OR LADIES YOU GET AS MANY SALES AS YOU WANT THAT IS WERE EVERBODY GOES TO...NOT FAIR FOR US WHO HAS 2 DEPT. TO RUN...I hope this finds it way to someone who works for Belk in corp.office...they want you to do more but they dont want to pay you moreso BEWARE if you want a job at BELK they like to work you but not pay you.

I was hired at one of their florida stores and was also happy to get the job. However, their annual, i guess, charity sale, was going on from 530am to 10am. I had no formal training on the register and was bascially running the shoe department, on my first day, none the less, and had no help. When I went to the office to ask for help, and when i would be able to take lunch, i was yelled at by the store manager and told to "GET BACK ON THE SALES FLOOR AND OUT OF THE OFFICE AND NEVER LEAVE THE SALES FLOOR!" i AM A 44 year old professional woman who has never worked retail and have been in the healthcare setting for most of my career, but took a break because my mother recently died of Cancer. I thought i would love retail and i think i do, except for the fact that i will never set foot in Belk again, i am relaying this info to all of my friends that shop there. Everyone, including me, 10 people have cancelled their belk cards and will never shop there again. THe place has bugs, is nasty and would never compare to that of Dillards, Macy's, ect. This woman is in the wrong profession and shouldnt be allowed to be in customer service, Please, if you are thinking of working there, think again. It sucked! No training, they throw you to the wolves, ect. THe 2 assistant managers were very cordial and nice, however. THe one lady that is leaving this store told me to think really hard before i stay at this job. WEll, she proved that. I walked out. What an unprofessional experience. Please boycott this horrible place.

Belk online payment

I pay my bill in the store most of the time. At times it's necessary for me to pay online. Every time I do it's a real hassle to log on. My information never is right and I have it written down what I used last time. How can I use this information one time and the next time it's wrong? This time I logged on and an image showed up and I did not remember ever seeing it before. After reentering I got the same image. So I tried to continue to see if it would work and I got all these questions. I knew the answers to all but the last one and do not recall ever being asked this question before. I wasn't sure if I was in the right website.

Belk inventory

Went into belk's to my my son some swimming trunk and theywere doing inventory on a saturday july 17th. I mention to the lady that I wanted the swimming trunks but she told me that I could not purchase them right now because they were doing inventory.. I said " you are telling me that I can not buy those trunks " she said right now but you can wait till we are finish and purchase them.. When is it that the customer has to wait for them. I asked to speak to the mansger and she act like I was a bother and rudely called for him to talk to me. He made me mad and I walk out of the store//their lost not mine.. They did not get my money.. What happen to being polite to the customer? S williams

Belk very dirty store

I have shopped in this belk store for the last 15 years and have complained many times how dirty the carpeting is, and they keep telling me they are going to replace it. Well, 15 years and still filthy! I won't even try on clothing anymore cause the floors are so dirty ! Lots of stuff left in the dressing rooms too, with sales people standing around talking when they could be checking the rooms. Even if the store was vacuumed once in a while.In one dressing room I went back after 2 weeks and the same dirt and stuff on floor. I will stop shopping in your crystal river store.

just clueless people i dont get. this is a place to rant about an awful experience to give others a heads up then they are attacked by dumb comments like, shop somewhere else or get another job. duh, thats what these people did. found other places to work and the customers found better places to shop. but they came to a place to talk about it. to let others know what they was in for. If i had seen this site before i would have never applied to the place. but thats okay, i did my job, got paid and now im off to bigger and better. Every one deserves a clean place to work and shop but that seems like its to crazy of an idea to some people. you wouldnt like it if you had to work surrounded in dirt, dust, bugs, mold etc... you would complain or tell a manger or just sit in the filth and enjoy your lunch break with a side of roach.

apply for another job easy to say when you dont work in an area thats low on jobs and with the soldiers coming back its going to get harder. for one when you apply they tell you one thing but once you start working its a whole nother story. but any ways i got antoher job lined up and in the process. this is just a filler. i dont get why people are jumping on someones complaints. i just got a job at belk and i see what you mean. i do the shipments and there is no one designated to clean throughly. we were made to vaccum once before a corprate visit. im thinking, so the customers dont deserve a clean floor everyday but corprate that takes in all their money does. The floor look horrible. so much gum and food mushed in it. i spend most of my day trying to clean but the store is more focus on getting people to apply for credit cards. i worked retail all my life and feel like this is the worst store so far besides most kmarts that i have seen.

Belk management/store overall

My family and I were shopping here at our local belk store here in lexington. I am pretty sure this girl we came across was a member of management, she carried a phone on her side. I noticed she was texting someone with her personal cell phone out in the open and then took pictures of an item and from the looks of it she was sending that picture to someone. I think this is very very unprofessional especially for a member of the management team, you are supposed to be what your employees look up to. From my experience in the work force, I have never ever been allowed to carry my cell phone with me while working. We never received a hello or even have her to acknowledge us, her phone sure was her center of attention that day. While continuing to walk around the store, you could tell the employees were much unhappier than other times we had visited... I have no clue what is going on but things need to change, the store is messy and looks like a clearance store or a walmart shopping center, heck walmart looks better than this store does. Not a good shopping experience, I will not return. I have also canceled my belk charge as wel

It is just sad that now if we want to go shopping we have to take our business out of our county. I know it is hard taking on a position like that but they needed to make sure she knew what she was doing before offering her such a job.

Perhaps a member of the visual staff-required to send pictures of their completed work. OR, as we in a college town are subjected to--the retail merchandising students...If a Belks employee does not immediately approach you, stop hiding, and approach them. YOu are right, but dang--it's an understaffed world. However, , I am sure they would love to help you...Lighten' up...

I was hired into the belk store in Flowermound Texas. As a male I was expecting to work in a department that understood that and allowed me to work comfortably. I found out the next day they would like me to work in the "Today's Women" section and "Small childrens". I made several complaints to my manager, store manager, and H.R.( who were all Women) about the awkwardness of having to retrieve clothing from the women's fitting rooms to do my job. Having a relative that has worked for this particular location since it's grand opening in 2007, she can vouch that there has never been a male employee working in the Men's department. Not only do i feel demasculated by the all Women store staff members that surround me, i feel down right embarresed approaching women and their small children as a 23 year old. I think the store may be sexist.

She is a 'New' Manager and the Store Manager before her was very nice and friendly. Knew how to trent employees and was hard worker. Store has gone down hill and I will tell my friends to go elsewhere.

Belk injury from heavy lifting

I was working up to 33 hours a week, told that was full time hours> but got part time pay, and was lifting tons of clothing> hurt my self> the managers looked the other way! Never tried to get me help at all!

HR is a joke! They do nothing and they are just as afraid of management as the underlings.
We were given all this info when hired regarding blood contagiousness and instructed to go to mgmt and fill out paperwork if we were cut. Someone cut themselves on a fixture and when they tried to follow the correcet protocols they were snubbed by management. They were told that unless they needed to go to the emergency room not to bother them. When you try to follow the rules they treat you like you're the stupid one and you're being a crybaby or a nuisence. In any other environment whether it be construction, factory, office, medical, ect.. The right procedures are followed by the book and employees are taken care of. BTW... a customer had a nose bleed in the walkway and no one mopped it up for days. It just dried and sat there. We told custodial and it was never seen to and finally we told Management and they responded with "Well, why did'nt YOU do something about it! Because were sopposed to call janitorial and because we HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND that we know what to do when we come across Blood. It's not my job anyway. I refuse to risk my health and my families health for $9.3 hr.

This is against labor law. Try calling HR of your company, tell them you got hurt on the job and want them to file workmans comp. as your manager refuses to do that, this will be putting your manager in a lots of trouble for not following procedure of the federal labor law.
