AuPairCare Steals your program fee.

I used AuPairCare for the first time to hire an in-country aupair who was in a rematch status with the previous family. After 4 months with us and 2 months before ending her 1st year, the aupair decided to quit the program and apply for a tourist visa through a lawyer and stay in the US with her US boyfriend. We had an amicable relationship with the aupair and left in good terms. We informed Aupaircare about the change, had an exit interview done, but the company is refusing to give us back all of the unused monies we paid.

They would ONLY credit the full refund if the host family, contracts another one of their aupairs. Yet, the company did not have any available aupairs for the duration. Yet, they refused to give us back all the money we paid them until April 28, 2023 and penalize the host family and keep a part of the refund, even thought, it was the aupair that voluntarily changed her status, and Aupaircare did NOT have any other available aupairs for the duration involved.

ALSO, we paid a placement fee of $350 in addition to the program fee, even though, we had met/contacted the aupair outside of their companie's website in another website/online forum, yet we still had to pay a placement fee and NOW it is not at least partially refunded in their refund calculation.

Also, according to their contract, if you have an aupair for more then 6 months and they leaves the program for any reason, you lose the remaining program fees you paid Aupaircare. I WOULDN'T HIRE THIS COMPANY AGAIN.. Also, according to their contract, you waive your legal rights, and you can only go to arbitration with them if you have an issue with their program, fees, etc.

AuPairCare aupair care

My wife and I have had similar experiences as many of you that have posted here. We have had AuPair Care for 13 months, and needless to say we have ended our relationship. We had 4 inexperienced and immature young women with only one of them even interested in bonding with our children. Additionally, after trying to quit the program, we find that they will not refund any of our money and wish to extend us $2000 in credit for future AuPair girls. This is a racket! They keep you in the program with the hope of getting an average nanny that you could pay for in the US. After Room and Board, paying the fees, paying for plane tickets, training, their school stipend, and providing them with transportation (usually with your vehicle), and their weekly pay, you pay over $25k.
For a nanny in the US, your looking at $15-20/hr ( in usual areas), 35hr/wk x 15$/hr x 52 wk= $27, 300. Personally, I'd rather pay someone who wants to be there to take care of the child for the same price and not have to deal with another child in the house.

AuPairCare does not care about welfare of children

My husband brought over an AuPair from Brazil with this service. She has told my children she is their 2nd mommy and he has allowed it. The worst part is that he is now in a relationship with her. She stays overnights alone with my children, which is clearly stated is not allowed in the rules they have on their website. She sleeps in his bed, confusing my children. She takes vacations often to get breaks away from the children. I have reported this to the agency and they have done nothing. Her "job" here as an Au Pair, or the visa she is here on is no longer valid as she is now considered a mail order... they refuse to look into to this issue and are allowing her to stay. It is confusing to the children as they think they have a replacement mommy. The Au Pair's mother comes to visit and tells the kids to call her grandma. This is unacceptable, and a horror story that you would never think would happen to you in real life, like a lifetime movie come to life. She also is lazy and sits on her phone all day long. She is more concerned about getting his money, vacations and social time than anything. I do NOT recommend this service as they seem to be only concerned about the money they are getting, and not the childrens welfare.

AuPairCare The Au Pair Scam

Our niece was placed in an Au Pair home in Portland Oregon under very false pretenses. She signed up for 4 normal children assuming they belonged to to host mother. Turned out there were actually 4 young children whom were all foster children and 2 had some mental problems. In addition to one of the children being violent the host "mother" was very mean and degraded our niece in front of the children which further hurt the relationship and her ability to keep control of them. The niece was asked among other things to drive the children around without legally required child protection available for all of them and expected to take the ones with issues to frequent therapy sessions while hauling the others along on the trips. In addition to a number of other issues, the local Au Pair coordinator told our niece she was not allowed to tell anyone about the problems, continue working way beyond the agreed upon hours and that she should just live with it. And when we attempted to talk to the coordinator she basically told us it was none of our business. It degraded to the point where the girl could not tolerate anymore and we bought her a ticket back to Mexico. The host mother, was just raking in the cash from the Oregon Department of Human Services and abusing the system with AU Pair Care's help. And it was pretty obvious that Au Pair Care also was only concerned with the cash they get from the host family. And Au Pair knew about the situation prior to the placing as previous Au Pairs had experienced the same issues.

GREAT SCAM!

AuPairCare Poor service and ripping off money

Au Pair Care is the number one biggest fraud. The State Department needs to step in along with DYFS. APC is replacing Au Pairs, that are clearly endangering the welfare of children to unsuspecting families.
I have had several Au Pairs that have clearly put my children in harms way. They have all been or at least attempted to be re-placed. APC deems the program as a "Cultural Experience" and the welfare of the children is not the primary concern.
I have withdrawn from the program. In retaliation APC has ripped me off of thousands of dollars. They have a contract that MUST be signed in the beginning that basically allows them to dock you of any monies they see fit. But when an Au Pair runs up your phone bill or crashes your car. They shun any responsibility. They do not pre-screen thoroughly. References are not checked.
Au Pair Care is money hungry and that is the bottom line. I strongly do not recommend them, unless you want your children injured or worse and your pocket drained.

I am sorry you had the same experience. At least in our case we are "only" losing about $500. We've had two au pairs from them and both put our kids in dangerous situations. The first was especially bad and had to be sent home the second we have worked around but I still worry and now she is upset because I don't let her take the kids out but I explained it stresses me out that she has not always been responsible (leaving a 6 month old unattended in a public place while taking a 3 year old to the bathroom or forgetting a 5 year old at the bus stop or opening second floor windows all the way and letting my kids in the room it goes on and on). It kind of feels like I have a 4th kid to watch sometimes.

AuPairCare Au Pair Care- No screening & Not Healthy for Families

Au Pair Care does not screen their girls well.

Our family struggled with finding the correct au pair and thus used the
matching experts offered by the service to ensure we were assessing the candidates appropriately. The following 4 au pairs came through our home over the course of 16 month:

Au Pair 1: Left our daughter (11 months at the time) beside a boiling pot of water on the counter and then unattended sleeping on the couch, while she went to the basement to chat on the phone. We had her removed in 48 hours

Au Pair 2: Stayed 1 month and then decided she wanted to work with older children & have a car at her disposal (despite knowing our daughter was 1 at the time and that we did not have an extra car for her prior to her arrival)

Au Pair 3: stayed 11 months and was wonderful

Au Pair 4: Decided she cannot work Saturdays, despite knowing that alternate Saturdays were essential for her to care for my daughter since I work alternate Saturdays, prior to her arrival. She also thought she would bring our daughter to church with her on Saturdays, but realized our 2 year 2 month old daughter was too active for church.(never mind asking me if I was OK with her bringing my daughter to services, that were nonetheless, different then our own religious affiliation). She stayed with us 3 weeks.

After discussing the above with au pair care, I asked au pair care to seriously consider the angst and disruption to our household and stability to our daughter this has caused. They responded that they take great care in screening and stuck us with multiple thousands of dollars of fees (over $3000) for our au pair #4 that stayed 3 weeks! (not to mention 2 of those 3 weeks overlapped with the previous au pair, so that au pair 4 could be trained)

Overall an awful experience in the realm of childcare and I advise everyone to stay away and find a healthier alternative.

We previously had great experiences and we switched to au pair care and au pair #1 would only sit on her butt and not do anything even outside or in public with my 2 year old. It was not safe. I got blamed. au pair #2 we've been working with but there have been many safety issues through the year so that I have had to make many accommodations. We also had issues with her texting on the job and running up a huge phone bill. Every time there is an issue the coordinator doesn't fix it and blames me. I would never recommend them! We had two very positive experiences with another agency. This has been nothing but stress.

AuPairCare Bad service

I'm now an aupair in the USA, and I went thru the aupair care agency because they told me how good they are and that you get support thru your whole year!
Everything worked out well untill I actually started to have problems with the family, I tried to call the local area director, but she NEVER pick up her phone and it takes up to 2 weeks untill she finally calls back!
And on the coffee meetings she always talk bad about other aupairs and tell everybody about diffrednt aupairs and their problems!
She have called me maybe 2times for the check up calls, she is so lazy and as soon somebody needs help she just turn her backs on them because she is so lazy! why do more work then you have to ?

And now to my final problem I decided to exctend for another 12 months, I got my application approved and I got all my papers and I started to interviewing, until they just cut me off !
I didn't hear anything about it from the agency, I heard it from my host mom !
My host mom told me that the agency called them but they didn't call me, I've been trying to e-mail them I e-mailed 5 different people that workes for the agency and didn't get any respond what so ever !
And the reason ? because of rumors about me and that I've been doing stuff I'm not allowed to when it was all about a missunderstanding between my host dad and me!
He called the agency and told them I was doing a bad job . . .
They trusted him and cut me off !
Without telling me, and I heard it from my hoost mom.
The otherside, my current hostfamily is allowed to get a new aupair even tho they've been buying alcohol to underage aupairs, but they didn't get kicked out !
I drank a few times as an underage but never got in any problems what so ever and they cut me out !
and speaking of my area director ! she have an x-aupair living in her house on a traveling visa! not a working visa wich is illegal !
Seriously this agency is just crap !
I would never recomend it to anybody, not the aupairs and not the hostfamilies, because when you need help they just turn their backs on you and try to ignore you !

I now got a returning flight request for my homeflight, dind't get a call got an e-mail
I aksed them again why the family gets another aupair but I don't et a new family, no respond!
And now she responded in the e-mail i sent her and she said she need my return flight information,
and I have to pay the late fee of 100dollars evwn tho I paid the extention fee of 250 dollar !
SEriously I have give up all hope of this bad agency, this year was suppose to be a good year that I could enjoy
But it has been my worst experience ever !
The only good thing is that I bonded really good with the kids I care for I love them to death and they are like my siblings.

NEVER SIGN UP WITH AUPAIR CARE, BECAUSE THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, JUST THE MONEY !

I'm shocked that an au pair, someone who is trusted with caring for children, would think that it's ok to drink underage (which is a violation of the law in the U.S.) because she didn't get caught. And she is shocked and suprised that the au pair agency, AuPairCare dismissed her?! She is really out of touch! AuPairCare made the right decision and I applaud them for it!

AuPairCare Bad Service

I am an aupair that want to extend for a year, my DS2019 was approved. Due to circumstances I decided to extend with a new family and preferably in the Greater Chicago area. According to my aupairroom advice I can do it and Aupaircare will do the best they can to place me in a specific area. I received one family from that area, but they never came back to me or phone as they said they would. I received a few others, but all from far away. Needless to say I told them that I prefer to go to Chicago. But time was getting closer (you get 5 weeks) and with the half way looming I contacted customercare at Aupaircare. I got an email telling no one in Chicago will have me. So I phoned (at leat now I have a name) and she told me she blocked my profile to HF's in the rest of the country but cannot finf anybody in my preferred area. On this new I asked why she did not contacted me < but she told me that I must either match within the next 10 days or go home. Hust like that. I said that I am willing to match in another part of the USA as they do not have any families in the Greater Chicago area. THat was on the 12 January. I ask to please find me another family. This was the last communication I received. Nothing more. I am in this country, my hands are tied down as I do not have access to their host family list. I am start advertising privately now and see if I can find a family. I just want to say I completed my first year successfully, I had no complaints from my family and I do not have anything on a bad record. I am fighting a loosing battle. The service to the aupairs are absolutely shocking.

I actually worked with this au pair to help her find a match for her second year with AuPairCare. This au pair had many good families inquiring about her but she was more interested in being near her sister in Chicago than finding a good family match for her extension year as an au pair.

Many AuPairCare representatives explained to her that this program is designed for people who are here to experience cultural exchange and childcare, it was important that she be committed to these things if she was choosing to stay on a second year. Of course she can choose to limit herself to one area but this makes the chances of finding a match much smaller. Unfortunately, she had her heart set on being near her sister more that making a match and spending a second year as an au pair wherever that may have taken her.

Au pair agencies are here to connect host families and au pairs that are like minded in their childcare and cultural exchange mission, we are not a travel agency. It is unfortunate that this au pair who did a good job in her first program year lost sight of this and has lost the opportunity to have a second.

AuPairCare imcompetent au pair

We hired an au pair through an agency. When the girl got here she was a disaster, didn't know how to change a diaper, etc. We called immediately to complain and hired other babysitters to train her, but found out quickly she wasn't going to be competent. We were told we had to keep her for 2 weeks so we did and hired other babysitters. We still had to pay her and finally got frustrated and fired her.
I was told I would get a complete refund, but am only getting about 1/2 of my money back. The company is rude when I call and I'm getting nowhere fast. They actually replaced her even though I had safety concerns about her.

I am a current, soon to be past Host family. AuPair Care is wonderful when they are trying to sell themselves. Once I matched with my first AP, I quickly found out that they really don't want to be bothered with you once they have your money. I was fortunate that my first AP was very good with my children. We had some issues which were minor, thank God. Whenever I asked the coordinator for advice I felt like I was getting rushed off the phone. She was supposed to call both myself and the AP monthly and it wasn't until they sent me a survey and I answered honestly that I haven't heard from her in months that I started getting the monthly "let me rush you off the phone call", hey at least they called, right? Check the box crap. I wasn't so lucky the second time around. My new AP was not a good match for my family. It took less than a week to figure that out. Parents, ALWAYS go with your gut. Anyway, we contacted the coordinator and got the "give it a month, it takes time to adjust" line. I told her that I would give it a week to show some improvement. The end of her first full week we had a family meeting and we expressed our concerns. The AP swore to us that she was very happy with us. That same night she posted on facebook that she didn't like this and it wasn't what she had expected! She also added that she would stay long enough to sightsee and shop then she was leaving. She didnt care about the contract. Ok. That helped us with our decision. We contacted the coordinator who was out of town and said to contact the alternate. I left messages for hte alternate who was not at all interested in returning my calls because it was a weekend. Let me also add that Monday was a holiday. So I contacted another area coordinator who answered the phone because I said it was an emergency. I basically wanted to know what to do if thigs went sour after we notified the AP that we were terminating the match. She I must admit was at least helpful. My coordinator just kept feeding me the "give it time" crap. She also lost interested when I told her that I would not remain with AuPairCare. I would be requesting a refund. Luckily I only paid the deposit. I immediately called my credit card company and put a merchant freeze for AuPairCare on my card so they can't charge any additional fees. After the first 30 days they charge the first installment. I also faxed over a letter requested a refund to the CA office and my coordinator. now I sit and wait. I would also like to add that my first AP shared with me that they never checked her references. Very interesting. I have no doubt that most of these young ladies are wonderful. Unfortunaltely some are not and since the agency does such a poor job of checking, if you are the one that happens to match with one, good luck. They are not helpful.

Au Pair Care has an A+ rating from the BBB and is closely regulated by the US Dept. of State. Host Families sign a detailed contract in regards to the placement fees and refund policies and are allowed a replacement au pair within the first 6 months if the original au pair is not a good fit. It is the host families responsibility to interview and choose the au pair based on their personal needs. All au pairs have some childcare experience in their native country, but this will vary. Some might be teachers where others might have just done babysitting or volunteering with children. An au pair expects to become part of the family as she is a young person away in another country.

We have the very same story. Our au pair came to us with no childcare experience at all. Was almost scared of my 3 year old, and treated him terribly. She only cared about sneaking into bars and meeting boys. Spent the whole day on the internet and would leave the house a mess. I spent 3 weeks trying to turn her around but she was a disaster. Actually told me my life was "boring" after the first day of watching the babies. The LLC told me she was not a typical au pair and must have slipped through. Said they would re-evaluate her closely before rematching her. But then they rematched her in 2 days to a poor unassuming family in Philly. The agency refuses to refund us anything. I hired a real nanny and finally can go to work with peace of mind. The extra money is worth every cent knowing someone is actually watching my kids instead of playing on the internet all day. My husband is a lawyer who owns a small firm. We are putting together a complaint with the state of PA if they continue to refuse any refund. But if anyone has any suggestions as to easier ways to get some money back please feel free to contact me.

AuPairCare - Horrendous Business Practices

Let me start by stating that it is important to note that an au pair is NOT a nanny - I discovered this the hard way. Also, I will assume my experience is an anomaly. Unfortunately, I was sold a bag of goods by the local Philadelphia Director, who told me everything that I needed to hear relative to my childcare needs after a disappointing experience with a...
