Aspen Dental - Dentist and office rude and unethical

The worst experience imaginable. I’ve had several friends and family warn me about Aspen Dental, 4001 Denny Avenue, Pascagoula, MS, but nothing could have prepared me for the series of lies and corruption from the administrative staff to the dentist himself.

I checked in early with two admin assistants who were immediately cold, unprofessional, aggressive, aloof, and snide. I completed the paperwork, and provided two forms of very good insurance, despite the lies of one admin assistant who ineptly (and unethically) played lawyer and falsely advised me on what the law required. I almost left immediately as I sensed a scam, and in hindsight should have left right away.

Over the next 2 hours and 20 minutes (0950 to 1220), I was moved among four rooms, received in depth X-rays from a very sweet and professional dental assistant, but also received false and contradictory information from dental nurse and dentist. I was told several times that I was being assessed for the “type of cleaning” that would be best, and that I would be able to choose once all of the “prep work” was completed. After two hours of being moved around, I was treated to alternating sweet and aggressive staff, getting false and contradictory information on my insurance and the type of cleaning and the next steps and the condition of my teeth and the purpose of the equipment (etc) from several staff. Finally I got the hard up-sell scam from a third admin assistant and from the dentist himself. I was told that I had to choose the most expensive treatment, and that none of my insurance would cover anything.

As I left to the lobby, on my departure, the most aggressive admin assistant loudly stated that the gingivitis deep cleaning was “the only treatment that was legal to provide.” Again, unprofessional at best and malpractice at worst. This was the final step of the scam. The whole staff lied, bullied, and attempted to scare me into the most expensive treatment that coincidentally wasn’t covered by my insurance. The dentist even came to the lobby and aggressively confronted me, saying that the admin assistant “never said that.” A complete lie.

After 30 years of testifying in federal court, I know false legal advice and unethical behavior when I hear it. The more the dentist insisted, “you didn’t hear that,” the more the scam became obvious. The whole office was scared at being called out for the unprofessionalism, the lies, and the bullying. When the dentist realized that I knew what I heard, and knew it was a scam, he meekly said, “well three employees thought you were rude.” I’m sure they did. It’s hard to confront a liar and a bully without doing so clearly and directly. I’m sure they felt I was rude of me not to go along with the scam.

I escaped this scam, after wasting almost two and a half hours, and immediately went to another dentist (Bienville Dental Group). They were wonderful, professional, and honest. No scam, no lies, no bullying, no alternating sweet and aggressive treatment (common among scams). They were able to verify my MetLife dental insurance in less than 30 seconds (Aspen couldn’t verify it with more than 30 minutes “effort”). After some brief X-rays, I received the thorough and professional cleaning and checkup I had hoped to receive from the first.

What an ugly experience of lies and corruption at Aspen Dental. I can only be thankful that this scam, and the very rude and unprofessional dentist and staff didn’t trap me in their lies.

I have discussed this experience with several friends (more than 10) who are also dentists and dental hygienists working in Louisiana and California, and every one of them were shocked and apologetic, but not surprised. They have each heard of such experiences with Aspen Dental before. Additionally, I have reported this incident to the Dental Advisory Board, the Better Business Bureau, and have left reviews on several platforms.

Shame on Aspen Dental for bullying clients, especially the older clients, into paying exorbitant prices and lying to the patients they’re supposed to help.

Claimed loss: None

Desired outcome: Let others know so they don’t experience what I did. Hold Aspen Dental dentist accountable for the lies, the scam, the unethical legal advice, the bullying, and the rude aggressiveness.

Aspen Dental - Dental services

I am very dissatisfied as a patient with Aspen Dental of Pascagoula, MS located at 4001 Denny Ave. This is my own experience and my opinion, I have been a patient for many years, and I have had wonderful experiences until this past year. First, my most recent appointment took me several months to even get an appointment at the Pascagoula office due to their system crashing and weeks of appointments had to be rescheduled. My information was taken stating that in a few weeks someone would reach out to get me scheduled, after that I, myself repeatedly called, left messages and finally was able to set an appointment. I came into the office last week for my scheduled appointment for a whitening of which I took 3 hours of vacation off work because I was told that was the amount of time it would take to be completed. Once I arrived, I was informed that the bleach that came with the whitening treatment was missing Allegedly. (Which made no sense if each kit comes with its own substance, then I'm assuming the kits are tampered with or shared prior to patients receiving treatment). I was assured that the day before the hygienist and the Office Manager Allegedly and I say Alleged because she identifies as the AOM, as I would assume Office Manager had checked the kit the day before my appointment and everything appeared to be there, which an apology was offered but again that was unnecessary time missed from work. Then I was told I would be called because there was an issue running my Care credit information. I left a number for the office manager for providers so that they could speak to see where the problem was, and never received a call back. I called the office on yesterday was placed on hold and no one ever came to the phone, so I called back and asked if the AOM could call me to let me know what's going on. I called back a third time and finally spoke to her only to be told that there was a certain step that must be completed before I could be scheduled. Here I am still waiting, no call back but I was assured that they were working on my account. I am very frustrated, and I feel like customer satisfaction/customer commitment is not being honored. The moment they decided they were too busy to come to the phone, why not reach back out with a call or email to say they are working on the problem. Not to mention I have seen several emails only for those to be ignored. Nothing about this situation speaks professionalism nor Patient satisfaction. Just a phone call or little insight into what’s going on would not take 5 minutes to explain to a person. I am grateful because I was able to reach out to the Aspen Dental in Diberville, MS and on the first ring was able to assist me and listen to me. I spoke to a young lady by the name of Natalie who was very concerned and offered to help me as well as look into any issues that may cause a delay. In any position an individual should put themselves in the other person’s shoes. How would you feel if you were ignored? How would you feel if your calls went unanswered? How would you feel if you yourself been a product of the Medical/ Billing/ Insurance field and you understood and know the frustrations of dealing with Insurance, yet you also know that patient satisfaction and customer service comes first. Again, this review is strictly for the lack of service and treatment I received at the Pascagoula, Aspen Dental location located at 4001 Denny Avenue, Pascagoula, MS located across the street from KFC in Pascagoula.

Desired outcome: To be treated with respect as a patient and to be called back or kept up to date on what is going on

Aspen Dental - dental appointment

I am trying to have syrgery and need a dentist to sign my release so I went to aspen dental first of all they gave me a price and told me I had to do this or they would not sign my release. The price was 1588.00 for 4 groups of 4341 i - 7210, 1- 2331 and 1- 2392. I thought the price was high so I brought a dental plan and used the carrington care 500 series. I went back to the office the frist thing your manager dean did was tell me to canncell the carring care 500 series and and add the 174.00 to the price they gave me which was 819. Oo not including the 174.00 paid to dentalplan.com. I ask him how would that help me and he said we could do your dental work right now and it would be a little over a thousand. I told him I 'll just keep what I have and could I get and apponitment.in the mean time he called the carrington office and the conversation being on speaker phone I heard the lady verify everything I told him and that my plan went into affect fri 4/12/2019 I asked if I could get an appointment for monday and he just told me to show up monday morning. I called today to see when my appppointment was and did not have one so I asked dean on the phone why I was getting all this run around and he said i'm waiting for your plan to go in affect so I guess I would have just sit there all day who knows. I need to get this dental work done so could I use another office close by I would rather not deal with unprofessional people like you have in the pascagoula office. James curry [protected]

My full set of teeth is the worst I've ever had they told me that's the best they could do. They don't fit bite down back teeth comes up ! They loose there suction on top plate. Will fall out of my mouth. So poorly made. And I have to wait three more years to go to a real dentist for good teeth ! They wouldn't even adjust them when they hurt. I'll never go back to them in Port Huron, Mich. Worst place ever ! I ask for money back they said no ! They said they were made. And they are (are) good teeth. NOT !
