in June of 2019 my son, Robert, and I contacted Mr. Bachman's office regarding refinancing our mortgage. misleading/lying about fees
My spouse and I recently tried to secure a refinance from Amerifund in New York City. They told us that there would be no lock-in fee and claimed that we needed to give them a 1% "deposit, " to get the process started. We asked several times to make sure in writing that this was not an additional fee, but were reassured that it was a 'deposit.' Well, it turns out, it IS an additional fee and now we are trying to get it back. It is much more difficult to get money back even if companies have lied to you about what they are doing. Trust me - stay away from Amerifund and beware of all refinance/mortgage lenders. Do not pay any upfront "deposits." Deposits are not even legal it turns out - but "fees" are.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
But when most people hear the word "fee", they think it's something you pay that you don't get back. So our loan officer tried to explain that the fee works like a deposit -- you pay it, then you get it back. Unfortunately, this created more confusion instead of less.
In the end, we refunded her lock in fee, even though she didn't close. We're sorry for the distress she experienced. We have very few complaints, which is pretty good, considering we've been in business almost 10 years and have done hundreds of millions of dollars worth of loans in the tri-state area. We get a lot of referrals, and many people are happy with our service.

The company is full of lies, starting with its CEO Alan Bachman. I received a commitment letter for my mortgage, they requested a payment of $3500.00, which I sent. My check was cashed the next day then I was notified I would have to re-apply for a new mortgage of lesser amount. I have requested my application fee back and as of today, I have not received it. Now that I have the Attorney Generals office investing the company I will get some results. Do yourself a favor and dont ever do business with this company.
