Active Network sneaky membership signup

When you use reserve America to make reservations at a South Carolina state park this fee shows up about a month later. This is the second time that this has happened so I was very careful in reviewing the pages when I made the reservation online. The people at reserve America said they would refund the 64.95 charge and they did last time. They said that the screen are Clear that you are subscribing to their service but they ARE NOT!. It appears they are just trying to steal from people who aren't paying attention, not while making the reservations, but when they are charged for this "service"

Four months ago I signed up to enter a the Big Sur International Marathon. Today I received a notice, the first notice from this company, that my premium was being renewed for a year membership for $64.95. They have my card on file. They did not provide their phone number on the notice.
As a policy, I never sign up for anything that has a free trial. I did not sign up for this.
The customer service person, who read a long script about the benefits and freebies before answering my question, said that I had signed up by clicking a button on the site when I signed up for the race.
The button is apparently at the end of the form and I suspect most people do not realize that they are signing up for this. I surely did not.
While they are clever enough to grab my credit card information, apparently they are not adept enough to provide a confirmation statement to the purchaser. Hmmmm. This smells a lot like fraud. I will inform BSIM of this.

Active Network fraudulent charge

I found a random $64.95 charge on my credit card statement the other day that came from Active Network (ACT*ACTIVE-NETWORK). I believe this company coordinates a road race that I attended, but the charge for that particular race already had already completed. I then received an email about this $64.95 charge saying it was for the Active Network membership, which I NEVER purchased, nor authorized anyone to purchase on my behalf. After doing some internet research, I noticed that my fellow consumers had filed such a complaint, so I know I am not the only one who this company is deceitfully charging. Like such consumers, I completely agree that this company should face stiff legal actions for attempting to deceive their consumers. This is completely inexcusable.

This is the 2nd year in a row I am being charged for a membership that I did not sign up for. Last year I had the charge removed, but I feel this is more damaging to your reputation than anything else. As a user from both a runner and a web admin/promoter for a large local race, I can tell you It is a not a good way to get/retain customers.

Hello -

I just saw a charge on my VISA for $69.95 for Active.com registration. I never signed up to join Active.com. Please refund me the amount.

I have signed up for races who use Active.com, but I never joined for $69.95. What's up?

My phone number is [protected] for further information.

Thanks in advance -

Active Network unknown credit card charges

Act Active-Network is NOT worth doing business with. We have a group of 10 -12 people who do 20 or more races a year and will never register through this company again. They underhandedly charge your account for $64 for some membership. The way the company goes about this is very short sighted. So instead of having 10-12 people doing 20 races a year, they would rather swindle you out of $64. Just very unfortunate that companies operate this way and from reading all the reviews, it is a wonder why they are still in business.

Signed up for trial membership. No indication of permant sign up. I cancelled as soon as i was charged. And now they wont reverse charge. This company provide no service and will not refund me. I had to cancel my card and force a fraud dispute.

They did the same thing to my wife several years ago. How long will this company keep going on with this scam.

Ran the Disney half in 2011 and princess in 2012, did sigh up for active. Thought I went through the proper process to leave the service. In the last four months I found out that they were billing me on two different credit cards for at least two years. Did get them removed from one card so far but it was a longer than expected process involving the merchant and credit card company. Just discovered the second card. Very difficult company to leave.

For the second time in a row, I discovered the ACT-Active Network charge. I did not sign up for their free trial either time. They easily reimbursed me, but what if I didn't notice? Why has this happened twice? I swear I have not clicked on any free trials EVER!

I just received my bank statement, and I have a purchase from ACT-Active Network based out of California. The charge is for $64.95. Not only did I NOT make this purchase, but they caused me to overdraft my account.

Active Network - unauthorized / stolen card number purchase

Active network provides online registration software to a variety of organizations including: the color run, disney, spartan, and local parks and recreations departments. Active Network credit card charges slammed

$64.95 charges showed up and I have NEVER agreed to sign up for their service. I was very careful when I used the website to register for a sports event, and as always, I declined their offer to join the club. Regardless, a year later I get an annual fee charged to my credit card. I can't log in to the website, and complaints to their customer service department are frustrating. I shouldn't have to deal with this due to their mistake, I just disputed the charge through Visa.

They bury the OPT-IN during your registration. Apparently somewhere buried in the text, you agree that they can store and charge your credit card an additional $64.95. call [protected] to cancel or get charge reversed. They count on you not noticing or going to the trouble of reversing the charge.

Active Network won't provide refund for paid event

Toro Loco Challenge in Southern California was cancelled but the money collected by active.com for the event was not returned and they are saying that I should go to my credit card company to get my money back. If you have experienced the same response from active.com, please post a response here so there is common location where those of us who have lost money can see if there is any recourse

Active Network sneaky membership activation

I registered my son for a 5K Race. Somewhere along the way in order to do so I needed to register with Active Advantage. Presumably somewhere along the way in doing so I signed up for a "trial membership". After one month, my credit card was billed for a full year membership to Active Advantage at $64.95. I was sent an email to tell me this, but the information about your trial membership converting to a full year membership is down in the bottom of an email that simply looks like a monthly newsletter type mailing. I just figured it was a newsletter I was being sent due to having signed my son up for a race using their registration platform. I deleted the email and didn't realize the charge had occurred. I think this is a pretty slimy, underhanded way to get memberships. I only became aware that it had happened after my husband saw our credit card bill and asked me about the charge. I'll be calling today to cancel my membership. Two thumbs down.

Active Network scam/fraud

I too was signed up for Active.com without my consent. Why does the government allow this company to handle the reservations for our state parks anyway? If I hadn't seen the email form Active.com right away and emailed them right away to cancel the subscription that I hadn't even signed up for I would be getting charged every year! If you only have one choice for reserving a camp site then you should not be subjected to this kind of scam! Also, their booking system is unfair. If you don't have the fasted computer then you don't have a chance of ever reserving a camp site in some of the more popular locations that you have to reserve 6 months in advance. With their stupid 2 day cancellation policy they people who do get the reservation only have to cancel within 2 days! Who has time to plan a trip if the place you want to go is only available 2 days in advance! RESERVE AMERICA SUCKS! Please do something about this stupid company.

Active Network cancel membership

This company seems like a HOAX. I signed up for a race and had to sign up thru Active Advantage in order to pay for it. I have been trying to call to cancel this "membership" for 3 weeks. No one answers the phone, andIi'm willing to wait a long time too. I have sent an email to them and I recieve and automated bounce back email. I STRONGLY urge anyone NOT to 'sign' up with them.

Hi there,

We’re sorry to hear about your concerns regarding the ACTIVE Advantage membership program. ACTIVE Advantage is offered to event registrants as a way to save on events, gear, and travel. It is an optional membership so registrants are not required to join. If you tried calling us at [protected] (Mon-Fri, 7am - 5pm PT) I apologize for any delayed response. Active Network scam

To register for the 2013 Publix Marathon, I had to use the website Active.com. At the end of the registration, they offer an opportunity to get rebates on future purchases through the site. No where does it say that if you click on the link, you are registering for a $60/ year service, to be billed after a 30 day free trial. Later, in an email I received from them, I am told that I registered for this free trial and subsequent subscription. I go to the website to cancel the subscription. Rather than provide a link, I have to call and/or email them. I chose to call and sat on hold for 13 minutes. These people are shady. I tried to complain internally to an ombudsmen, but they told me that they had no such person who takes complaints.

Active Network hidden charge

Was sent an email email Friday at 7 pm saying, "Your trial is coming to an end and your membership will be extended for 12 months at $59.95." When I looked into canceling online, I found out that I had to either email or phone--their phone lines are only answered M-F 7am-5pm!

Neither the email nor the website offer easy ways to cancel a membership. I took the only option offered: emailing to their email address. I received an automated response saying that the company would get back to me in 48 hours.

Within hours, my credit card was charged. Like others, I did not (to my knowledge) sign up for auto-renewal, but must have been duped into it while signing up for a race.

They give such short notice (the email) combined with no ability for recourse prior to the bill hitting. They intentional obfuscate the ability to cancel one's membership on line. Their training plans are elementary at best! I am better at setting my own training schedule.

All of this leads me to think that this company is not an honest, reputable company. I will dispute the charge. I will report to anyone and everyone that I can what has happened. I am thinking of how to get the word out to as many people as possible? Runner's World--do they know about this? What about the event organizers that use this online service for signing up for events?

Active Network unexpected charges on credit card

I signed up for the Chug and Run and paid my $45 entry fee with my credit card. Then, about a month and a half later I got hit for $59.99 on that same card by active.com. It's some type of "membership" that gives you discounts on things that active people do. Whatever. I called them. They said they would refund the money.

I have a charge on my credit card for 64.95 that I never signed up for, after reading complaints it may be due to signing up for a race. Now I need to go back to see if I've been paying for this monthly. My son is a Jr. and has been taking classes and test for the ACT and silly me thought that was the charge. Cancel this NOW and I feel I should be refunded for your false charges which were NEVER used. Fran Brocato

Active Network sleazy practices, opt-out charges

Active.com uses deceptive opt-out tactics to rip people off. My wife fell victim to these ### when signing up our 9 year old for youth soccer at the local rec center. We ONLY wanted to sign up for soccer and never intended to become Active Advantage members. Missing their opt out almost cost us $60 extra and I expect that their business model is based on less diligent people than us just missing the notification. We will no longer participate in any activities that require the use of Active.com to register and we will proactively inform people about them from now on.

The company did reverse the charges but I am still mad that they wasted our time and did this in such a deceptive manner. I intend to lodge a complaint with the state AG also as I firmly believe we as consumers need to stand up and fight this kind of crap if we don't want to be perpetual victims.

Active Network charge to my account

I signed up for a race on active.com and they went ahead and charged my account $59.95 for an "active membership" without my consent. They are very sneaky and put it in small print and the bottom of the page so you pass right by it. They leave it clicked so if you don't see it, you pay it. This is sneaky and not very honest. I will never sign up for a race through Active.com ever again. Hundreds of people complain on the internet about this charge and much more going up to $300!

Active Network active.com

Be very careful when registering for anything using active.com I signed up for a local community event and had to use active.com to sign up and then come to find out they also enrolled me in an annual subscription service with no notice for $59.95. I was never asked for permission and never got notice that I was signing up for their subscription. I happened to be going through my spam mail and noticed something that said membership renewal and had a look only to find out they were billing me for a year of service that I did not sign up for or want. Active.com's website has a lot of information on cancelling these renewals so it appears they know they are scamming people, but when I said to customer service that this felt like a scam, they had quite the script for what to say. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

I just posted on the Facebook wall at Active.com asking if they were aware that there was some misunderstanding from families struggling with grief from cancer. Many of our walks are devoted to a family member who is struggling and we are raising funds for a cure. These walks for the cure are now coordinated through active, farmed out over the years. It is easy to miss the fine print or cleverly paced email notice, due to being preoccupied with grief or fighting the disease. Just signing up for a loved ones walk will get you accidentally dinged once a month from Active with a big monthly fee. When all you are trying to do is join family for a member's memory walk to raise money for a cure.

Active Network registration charges

I also was billed for an Active.com membership without being asked. I consider myself very careful about these types of "temporary memberships that automatically bill after a 30-day "free" trial. I was billed for 2 years and never received confirmation emails or billing permission emails. I did receive an email when my credit card was about to expire, however, and that is when I realized that I was being billed. I signed up for 2 races through this site and got a $2 discount apparently so Active.com would not refund me any money. Ethically sketchy at best. My personal boycott is on.

I was charged for registration, as was a friend, 30 days after signing up for a race. We definitely did not sign up for active advantage membership. This is a scam that needs to hit the papers. It's unfortunate that so many races use active.com to facilitate registration.

Active Network active advantage trial membership scam

Lotta complaints here regarding Active Advantage! I think it is important all Event Organizers and Sponsors of Events are made aware of this scam. You can bet I never received any promised discounts on any events. I am also ensuring BBB knows about this scam. I am hoping all who have been scammed - and there are many of us, please take the time and effort to report to BBB and to all who can either get Active.com off the map or maybe elicit an apology and refund to all, for their ill conceived way to deprive many for a nothing service, and return to the business of providing registration of events and not scamming. Fat chance!
As for me, I'm a mail-in registration type until or unless there is another provider for online registration. dlm
