We got 6 month old Siberian from Lori of 1 Above Siberian Cattery in 2018. He died the beginning of September 2019 of FIP related issues. I have been trying to contact her but as others have mentioned it's not easy to get in touch with her after a purchase. She does not accept any responsibility which is outrageous considering the only way FIP is an issue is through unhealthy Cattery practice. This was unfair on us and for our poor kitten. Stay away unless you want to play chances and spend a lot of money on medical expenses.

Does anyone know where Lori is now? Trying to figure out a way to shut her down, but the SPCA in Ulster County says she moved.

Leave Lori alone. People make mistakes! I lost three cats at the height of her cattery having issues with FIP. I now have two healthy 8 year old cats from her and one is a retired queen. Stop focusing on trying to cause pain for another person. Life is hard enough as it is!

I also have a now one year old from her. So far he's been health but the fear of FIP is always lingering. I found an awesome support group on Facebook for people who have purchased kittens from her. I wish I had found it beforehand. Owners of 1 Above Siberian Cats

I bought 2 Siberian kittens from Lori in November of 2016. Now they are both 4.5 years old. My cat Cooper started declining in March. He got thin, issues with his eye, and lethargic. He was also given a diagnosis of FIP vs Lymphoma. Needless to say I am heartbroken! For some reason tonight I started to google her and was shocked to see that this isn't a isolated situation! I would also like to mention that I had texted her in March, as well as left a voicemail. She never called me back. This is just so sad and very wrong!

Thank you all for your comments. You have saved me from potential heartbreak. I was just about to purchase 2 kittens from this cattery in a few days. I was very concerned about picking them up at a park and not her cattery so I could see them before hand. The potential for sudden passing from FIP after bonding is a devastating thought especially since I just lost my beloved furbaby to an aggressive cancer that took her very quickly. I cannot go through that again.

UGH. Adding on to the horrible FIP comments here. We also bought an adorable male kitten from 1 Above Siberian Cats or Siberian Cats of New York at the end of 2019 and the cat died after 1.5 years of FIP. Reading these reviews this breeder has a serious problem with FIP, and she should not be able to sell kittens until it is corrected. We're going to reach out to her shortly with the official diagnoses from Cornell of FIP, and if she is not responsive we will take her to small claims court to hold her accountable. We lost our family mascot and love of our 5 children's lives. I'm so mad now reading these comments. We were a little worried when she smelled like smoke and the kittens were dirty, but figured after a wash and some love life would go on. How wrong we were. We didn't know this could occur, or about FIP. Our cat's organs were all yellowed and horrible, filled with fluid, just a horrific situation. Benefit of the doubt, if her cattery got infected with feline coronavirus or FIP around 2018/2019, she should own up to the situation and make it right as best she can. That's her responsibility as a business owner, let alone her moral obligation.

We bought our Siberian from 1 Above Siberian Cattery in November 2019. When we got him he smelled like feces and Lori met us in a parking lot. Her hands were yellow from smoking and the six cats she had in her van seemed frightened. He was very skittish when we bought him home, but quickly settled.
He died two days ago and the vet confirmed yesterday he had FIP. Stomach full of fluid and organs riddled with pustules. I have 5 children who are devastated. I am devastated. We intend on contacting her to let her know, but based on these comments, she already does. I am sickened to know that she was aware this could happen. Our cat was the love of our lives, irreplaceable. Knowing this suffering could have been prevented is devastating. I am going to look into legal action, she should be arrested.

To add to this, he was a year and 9 months old. Completely healthy happy cat up until a week or so before he died suddenly.

I got my cat from here in december 2018 and i’m really concerned about her health. She has stomach problems, diarrhea, loose stool. I’ve taken her to the vet but so far we’ve given her antibiotics, and prescription food but nothing helps. I’m worried she has FIP cause of everyone else’s problems from 1 above. She’s 2 1/2 right now and I just don’t want anything to happen to her, if anyone has any info please let me know. :(

I would get her tested for FIP asap. If she has it, sadly there is no cure. I really hope for you she doesn't.

We brought a kitten from 1 Above Siberian Cattery in November 2019. Lori met us in a parking lot, reeked of cigarettes (fingers yellowed and hacking cough), with 6 terrified cats in the back of her beat up van. We bought our lovely kitten from her and he has been an absolute joy and love.

He died suddenly two days ago. Our vet confirmed yesterday once opening him up that it was from FIP; his body was filled with fluid and his organs riddled with pustules. I am furious to know that she knew this was an issue. Her cattery needs to be shut down. I will do my best to make this happen. PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM HER. The trauma she has cause me and my five children is unacceptable. He should have been with us for 15 years, seeing all our children off to college. The devastation this has cause is indescribable, he was a beloved part of our family.

I would never recommend this breeder. In retrospect, I felt more like I was rescuing a cat than adopting. One of them died within months with FIP and the other, while wonderful in so many ways, seems to have some lingering neurological issues - twitching, excessive licking.

I concur with the statements in the prior reviews about socialization and overbreeding. She also smokes a ton and the cats smelled like smoke for a while.

Even though the place was clearly bad, I found it almost impossible not to get cats from her because they were so delightful. Won't make that mistake again.

This is very scary. I purchased a kitten from her in 2018 and he is doing fine and has not had any major health issues. When I did go and pick him up there were about 20+ kittens in the room, which was very strange. Other breeders put me on a waiting list for months, so it did seem odd that so many kittens were available at once.

I wish I would of done my research before. I am looking to get 2 more Siberians. Does anyone have any recommendations of catterys in the northeast for Siberians?

I received a cat from her, really hoping he doesn't contract FIP. I really urge anyone to do their research well before moving forward with a cattery.

Another reason I would not suggest her is that she does an EXTREMELY poor job of socializing her kittens. Most breeders actually spend time with their kittens before the 8 week mark to socialize them to humans. She did not let me visit her cattery, even though it was very easy for us to come there (red flag 1). I have heard she keeps about 20/30 kittens but not in her house - in an attached shed. Our kitten was incredibly skittish, and would hiss at us especially with regards to food (red flag 2). This usually signifies that the kitten had to fight others for food. And when I researched afterwards, people found cases of FIP in her cats and now that I am visiting her website, I see that there are so many litters that occur pretty often (red flag 3). This isn't common of other good cattery's, they don't have that many litters in a year - which makes sense because it doesn't seem like its sustainable to breed and sell that many kittens, AND have enough man power to take care of / socialize that many kittens.

Other breeders have let me know that they are petitioning to have her cattery shut down. Please do NOT get a kitten from her!

We purchased a kitten from her December 2018 and at one year he just passed from FIP. He showed no real signs until his last day. I have done a lot of research on it and it is only passed from cat to cat, our kitten did not go outside as she stated and we would have done so anyway, and there are no other cats for him to have contracted it.
If a cattery has kittens that have contracted FIP then there are carriers in that cattery. While the fatal type is rare, most cats do handle the coronavirus, those that do is devastating. She should compensate us all, it is not fair practice to any of us that have done everything right. Our kittens contracted it in her cattery.
