The Salvation Army USA Terrible customer experience.

My mother was shopping at our local salvation army and she took a soap container she accidentally pushed the top and the container leaked old soap into her eye. The damage was not severe but she had a very irritated eye. What gets me is that the manager and the staff of the location waited around 15 minutes to offer her any form of medical attention and at one point the manager got very hostile with my mother and was yelling at her because she didn't speak proper English it wasn't until I got there that she had calmed down. I demand satisfaction my mother has always shopped there and never had any problems with the people there they either need to be trained or someone needs to be terminated.

Desired outcome: I would appreciate if the manager there would get more training on dealing with situations like this and to actually check donated containers because it could be worse next time.

The Salvation Army USA Funds for rental assistance are not distributed fairly…possibly not distributed at all

Fort Lauderdale, FL Salvation Army do not accept rental assistance applications unless you have a phone. They do not accept people in person, online, or fax. I suspect they purposely switch off the phone when people are calling on Tuesday’s to apply for assistance. Why is that it’s only 1 day out of the week dedicated to help people with rent? Why over the phone only? If a person can’t afford rent, obviously their cell phone is switched off too. Fort Lauderdale Salvation Army needs to be investigated. They are not allocating donated funds as they should be! Someone is stealing there! Oh! Can contact Fort Lauderdale via any webpage, Facebook or email. It’s actually blocked

Desired outcome: Provide people with paper and online applications. Not phone calls. Stop disconnecting phone line. Stop having 1 day for applications, applications should be available any time any day.

The Salvation Army USA Salvation army shelter

Location- 4320 E. Trent Avenue

Spokane, WA 99212

My fiance and I have been staying at this location and it is the WORST shelter experience we have ever had, from theft to drugs to staff playing favoritism!

They force us to use outside showers that obviously have not been cleaned, porta pottys that have cigarette burn holes, needles, missing toilet seats and no toilet paper! ( we were told to buy our own).

And now staff have restricted everyone from being able to charge our phones at the provided areas due to individuals "camping out" all day, so instead of addressing those individuals, they punish everyone.

The health department has even come by and this place FAILED the check!

They need to get people in here that actually care and aren't just here for the pay check.

All of this had been told to corporate and the head in charge, we were told if we don't like it to get out.

Desired outcome: They need to fix these issues asap or they will be shut down

The Salvation Army USA Hostile aggressive cashier

Friday 07/07/2023

Time 11:20

Clerk 07 No.55277

Location: Endicott NY

It was a beautiful sunny day in Endicott NY as I pulled my truck in front of your building to drop off fresh doughnuts to your staff. I was greeted with a warm smiling young lady with glasses who graciously accepted the doughnuts & told me she would put them in the break room for the team members. I noticed an antique barometer

I wanted to purchase. I asked the cashier Cherly how much the item was? she snarled with a "I ain't sure". So I politely asked her if she could check the price She then asked if "I got Enough to pay for it anyway? Insinuatebthat I couldn't afford the item she explained was worth $500. I was so excited when she told me it was $75. Luckily I had $2000 cash in my money clip that day so I handed her $75 and proceeded to take the item to my truck to place in the back seat next to all the doughnuts I was delivering for the day. When I came back in with the written tag she began to become hostile and told me & I didn't giver her enough money. And" dont be waIking around this neighborhood like that" I was confused by her behavior & comment accusing me of steeling the item she wrote up for $75. I asked her to please ring in the item so I could pay the $6 sales tax. I gave her the additional money and walked out feeling horrible and disrespected. When I left the store my friend Norah called me and told me that Cherly then proceeded to tell the staff that I attempted to steel from your location. I currently work with local police authorities, and state officials to ensure the safety of our local community. I was doing a delivery saw a beautiful piece of furniture and purchased it for a great price. It's sad that I was treated so badly by that lady who's image & hygiene was very poor like her attitude, customer service & communication skills. The Supervisor Mary called me and apologized for her employee behavior & thanked me for the doughnuts. I won't come back to donate nor support this location with employees like Cheryl on register.

Desired outcome: Corrective Action

The Salvation Army USA Employee was extremely rude

I was shopping at the store in the women’s clothing section. There was already an item of clothing on the floor in the place i was. Normally, i would even pick that up to help out employees but my hands were full and i’d had a very long day. I heard obvious throat clearing from the checkout area and a worker was staring pointedly at me. I turned away since she said nothing and she commented loudly to a coworker that “she even looked right at me.” I assume this was about wanting me to pick up clothing i had not dropped for her. I am 99% sure it had already been on the floor, but even if it had not, that still is extremely rude. As someone who used to work in clothing retail, that is never something i would do even if the person had done it -especially if their hands are full.

There were at least 4 employees milling around the checkout area so it was not particularly busy or messy. I was so disgusted by the level of rudeness that i set down the items i planned to buy and walked out. I will not be returning to the Saginaw, MI Salvation Army Store.

Desired outcome: Talk to your employees about keeping their attitudes in check. Being openly rude is not okay no matter what they think happened

The Salvation Army USA Staff

Hi, My name is Pamela Cravens. I have picked up food products for my son Kevin Cravens and his son Tevin for a few years now. Yesterday on 5/23/2023 I went to my local Salvation Army center at 1330 Hudson Street, Helena Montana. There was a different employee at the desk that I have never been service by before. She asked what she could do. I handed her my son's driver license and said that I was picking up food for my son. Immediately I received attitude from this woman. She said "No, you can't pick up for him. He needs to come in". I said that I had been picking up for him for over a year. Later I thought and I should have said 3 years. She said that is not how it's done. She asked why do you pick up for him. I told her that he has a special needs child. The child will not go into facilities that he doesn't know. I told her that if she looks in the signature book she will see that I always sign it. She said we don't allow you to sign for him. I didn't say that I sign for him. I sign my name, but with the way she was acting I didn't even say anything about it. As she is being very unfriendly (hateful) during our conversation she is clicking away on the computer. She then tells me that he has already picked up. I said No, he doesn't even know where to pick up. The she says that he picked up today. I said No he didn't. I believe that in her clicking away, not knowing what she was doing she entered a pickup for 5/23/23. It is difficult for people to come to a center for food. There is no reason for an employee to make us feel like she made me feel. I asked for the driver license back and lost my temper and said F# as I was walking away and I should not have. What I should have said is that you obviously don't know what you are doing so I will come back another day when you are not here. I don't know that I will. My grandson is on SS disability and my son is disable without income. I help them as much as I can. I guess I will need to help them more. I didn't want to send this message to the local Salvation Army because I didn't want them to sweep it under the carpet. I wanted someone else to know about it. If you are interested in discussing this my cell is [protected]. Thanks for your time. Pamela Cravens.

Desired outcome: This employee to take a class of how to connect with clients

The Salvation Army USA Joanne GonzalezStaff

My name is Charlie Padilla-Hindes and hopefully I'm still a resident till [protected] when I first came into the program I was told it was 3 mos and now it's 2. What makes me so curious is why are there still residents there that were there already there when I got submitted. I'm disabled and condemned to a cane the rest of my life so how does that work? Ms. Gonzalez, who I'm told is the residents' caseworker! How does that work that in my two mo duration she's never consulted with me. She claims that she posted memos, but the staff never informs. I got a part-time job, told a staff member and she's never consulted back. Another thing I'm having difficulty understanding is all residents must leave by 9:00 a.M. And still some or more than some stay back. Those are the healthy, normal ones too. I'm disabled with a cane and suffered head trauma, but yet I'm the bad guy! Talk about people with weak character and altered judgement. The good thing is this supposed caseworker gave me one more week but was hoping till the end of month so can get my place, I've been looking everyday but nothing yet so please if this matter can get some immediate attention ID sure would appreciate it. Plus! Do all residents have legal documents? And how does that work where a resident can leave for like a week and come back, I'm curious because was never told of this process if so wouldn't be here. Thank you.

Desired outcome: Investigation.

The Salvation Army USA 4 piece canister set

I purchased a 4 piece canister set from the salvation army on 823 E Auburn Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48307. The manager who rung up my order placed my canister sets in the box without wrapping them in newspaper, when I arrived home to clean my canister set I noticed a crack that wasn't there before. The very next day I went to return them with my receipt and the same manager reused to return my items because of the return policy. But I informed him that it may had been his fault for not wrapping the items before placing them in the box. He still refused to return my items and he proceeded to argue with me infront of customers he was very unprofessional.

Desired outcome: I would like an apology and my money returned or store credit

The Salvation Army USA A small child's rubber balls price tag was missing and the store wouldn't sell it to me because of store policy.

I was shopping in my local Salvation Army store (East Tawas Mi), with my daughter and 2-year-old grandson. The cashier just rang up my purchase of clothing for my grandson and other items. My grandson was holding a small colorful rubber ball. This was the last item to ring up and when my daughter looked at the ball, she said there was no tag on it. I am aware of the store policy if there is no tag it has to be processed and then can be sold. This was a small rubber ball probably priced at 99 cents. The cashier then told me the policy and I understood this to be true. However, I feel this situation should have been handled with some of God's grace. My poor little grandson cried when my daughter had to take it out of his little hands. I offered to pay two dollars for the ball, I would've paid five dollars for the ball even. I don't understand why this cashier couldn't show grace and ring it up under the current processing color for the dollar amount it would be priced at. This was such a small item and I had to choke back my own tears. I felt so bad. I understand the store policies. I used to work at Goodwill as a store supervisor and I worked at Salvation army downstate as an assistant manager. The cashier told the customer before us in line that she could get this one item at 15 % off (some swing set item) even though she wasn't' supposed to do it and when the lady donated her items after to not accept the coupon. So obviously she doesn't mind bending the rules a tiny bit. I shop at this location all the time and spend so much money there and I donate so many items. Why couldn't she just ring up the ball for my grandson? It was only a dollar or two. It broke my heart to hear him cry and the ball was the perfect size for him. My daughter was visiting, and we love to shop in the store. I feel this employee a keyholder I believe, could have let me purchase the ball for the current processing color and showed us some of God's love and grace. Every time I think about my grandson having the ball taken away makes me cry. 4/26/23 at 11:28am at the east Tawas family store.

Desired outcome: I would hope small exceptions to the policy could be made when the item is so small and by a case-by-case basis. My name is Catherine Compton, [protected]@yahoo.com

The Salvation Army USA Prices at Salvation Army Thrift Store. In Sheridan Wyoming.

Hello, I live in Sheridan Wyoming. One of our thrift shops in town is the Salvation Army. This store is charging brand new prices for items. I go to these stores, because I am on a fixed income. This is what I can afford. They are selling items such as jeans at $30.00, and up. A shirt with a TJ MAX. Tag still on it. That price for that store was $25.00 Salvation Army price. $25.00. A wedding dress.$250.00. People can't pay their prices. On their sign out side says "All Target items 10% off." I thought a second hand stores prices are not suppose to be like this.A church thrift store should not have $30.00 pair of jeans. I thrift store should not have chairs that are $50.00. Before a renovation was done to the store the prices on items were much better I could get a pair of jeans for $5.00 to $10.00. Yeah that's a little high, but it was better than $30.00.

Desired outcome: I would like to see a change in their prices. I was told they look up their prices online.

The Salvation Army USA Purchased a recliner infested with bed bugs!

We purchased a used recliner from The Salvation Army in Edgewood, NM in November, 2021. We started seeing bedbugs on it, and getting bitten, immediately afterwards. When we alerted the manager at The Salvation Army store, he thanked us for letting him know, said he was sorry, and that items are supposed to be checked and cleaned in the warehouse. Nothing more.

Since that time, we have had to visit dermatologists for the bites and have a very expensive two-part treatment by an exterminator. That also required us to tear our home apart, bag all clothing, bedding and other soft items in airtight plastic bags, empty all drawers, and isolate ourselves and our elderly housecat for several hours at a time. We are still afraid to put things back in fear there are still stragglers and maybe even unhatched eggs in our house.

It is a complete NIGHTMARE!

Desired outcome: Reimbursement for bedbug treatment @ $400.00, money back for the chair @ $32.00, and damages.

The Salvation Army USA Fake bracelet advertised as 18k gold

I bought an 18K gold bracelet in a Salvation Army auction that ended up being fake, and they refused to take it back because I found out when the bracelet started discoloring and a few months had gone by. They refused to honor the refund because the time for returning the item had expired. But I see this as a fraudulent transaction, and the refund should be honored.

Desired outcome: I want them to take the item back and give me a refund.

The Salvation Army USA Employee assistance

Good afternoon,

My name is Erin and I am a social worker in Denton, TX. I'm writing because I've heard complaints of employees creating a horrible living environment at the Salvation army shelter. Clients will tell me that employees are extremely rude, cuss at them, and are not cooperative on providing referrals. I understand this is a stressful working environment and there are some clients that have higher needs than others, but this should not lead to verbal harrassement. Clients tell me if they make a complaint, they live in fear of losing their spot at the shelter. Removal from the shelter should never happen because a client tries to advocate for themselves.

Desired outcome: More training or leave time for employees so that this does not happen. Being homeless already costs people so much, staying at a shelter should not discourage them from seeking help.

The Salvation Army USA New manager taking all new merchandise

I was informed by a former employee of the store that the workers are allowed to take home whatever they would like for free out of the donations and when they are taking new donations out to the floor. The new manager that came from Fresno is always taking whatever she wants to her car out the workers door. Im not the only one that has seen her pass by rushing with merchandise to her car. I used to find tons of clothes there but recently there has been nothing due do everyone taking things. It doesn’t seem fair to the people who actually buy clothing there

Desired outcome: Stop the manager having first pick and taking things for free

The Salvation Army USA Chronic shoplifting in Georgia stores because of backpacks, etc.

It seems like every time I visit the Duluth Georgia store I see someone shoplifting. Why in the world would you allow backpacks and large bags in the store? I asked a manager, and she said that the corporate office doesn't want to offend any customers. Just so the corporate office knows, there is a huge Hispanic grocery store on Buford Highway in Atlanta, which is next to a Goodwill store. They do not allow backpacks and large bags, and they will actually check bags at the front. Going on, if the Salvation Army stores don't have signage to deter shoplifting, then it's an open invitation. Moreover, if thieves have no fear of shoplifting, they will come back over and over again, which will kill a stores bottom line. Wake up Salvation Army! Walmart is closing stores because of chronic shoplifting.

Desired outcome: Signage on the front door that says no backpacks or large bags allowed.

The Salvation Army USA Embarrassing verbal assault

On 2/3/2023 I visited to mountain home arkansas salvation army to recieve help with food for my family of 5. After filling out the form and waiting seeing people get boxes of food I was excited to finally be able to have a meal to feed My family. They pulled a cart out and an gentleman took it they then said my name, but he had already took and left with the items. They then presented me with a small bag of bananas some fish sticks and 2 cans of beans. Confused I asked if this was all I was meant to get. The lady in the bag said and I quote "ewe I frigging hate that, it's not meant to support you for a month.. you get what you get" I felt so ashamed and embarrassed I was left crying and didn't even take the little food that was left for me that my family desperately needed. I will never bother the salvation army again in my time of need they not only offered me shame and guilt, but offered no help for me and my 4 children. What a horrible experience I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

The Salvation Army USA Lack of help from anyone at the Salvation Army, extremely rude workers!!!!!!!

I have given to the Salvation Army for the last thirty years, thousands of dollars in clothing and money and also was a bell ringer for them last Christmas, but NEVER again! I would recommend ALL start putting any extra money you get into a safe in your own home instead, so you have extra funds when you need it! All the Salvation Army does is take, take, and take some more, but God help you if you need help on a utility bill or anything else if off work on unpaid FMLA or for any other reason as they will find any excuse not to help you with ANYTHING! At the same time the girl Kammy in the Marion IL office was bragging about her the new computers they just got! Oh, that is a great use of our donations! The Salvation Army is a scam, they take in billions of dollars, pay their CEO a massive salary and benefits, have new buildings and now filling them with lots of employees and buying themselves all kinds of stuff! Every time I have dropped off clothes the employees are rude, stand around talking and no help! When you call or go in for any help which I have done twice in my life, they act like you are a bother and try their best to deny you any help at all! The girl Patti in the Centralia IL office sits and talks to her friends and has her dog in the office and did nothing for me, then says she will call you back and never returns your call! The office I contacted in Springfield picked up the phone, then hung up on me and when I called back six times, no one would answer! I tried to reach out to the corporate office and got some foreign girl by the name of Hlile at the number [protected] who kept trying to get my personal information before I even told her what I wanted after I asked for the corporate office number, she then argued with me and kept talking over me and was extremely rude, then when I requested her employee number or last name refused to give them to me! I finally had to hang up on her! I then tried to find the corporate office number and they're in London with no number listed and any other offices I tried had full answering machines and would not pick up! DO NOT GIVE THESE CROOKS YOUR MONEY AND DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO WORK FOR THEM COLLECTING MONEY THEY ARE MISUSING THE DONATIONS! I am done giving money out to anyone, will save my own and will not help anyone, just as they do to me! They have no problem taking and then using it on themselves or handing it out to the same deadbeat's day after day and foreigners and minorities but when a natural born CAUCASIAN working class citizen of this country reaches out, they use them to work for them, take their thousands in donations yearly and then if they ever need help, turn them away. God will turn them away too, when they try to get into Heaven, he sees all, and they just turned away a twice widowed mother! Stupid people.

Desired outcome: Fire all of these workers, get a working corporate number and give it out to your customers, start using the money given to you appropriately before you are shut down by the regulators and IRS!!
