There is alot of past medical history missing from the gentleman's story. The most important being his medical condition prior to his open heart surgery. Was he diabetic or on long term prednisone therapy?(which, by the way, can cause many of the problem's he encountered) Bottom line, a healthy patient is just not suddenly admitted for an open heart procedure. Any tube that is inserted during open heart surgery,(most often a chest tube X 3) is done so with the chest still open, and my thought is that the mediastinal chest tube migrated to cause a puncture in the stomach.
