 Officials with the North Island Credit Union announced Monday that several of their members have been the targets of a "phishing" scam.According to Geri Dillingham, executive vice president and chief operating officer of North Island Credit Union, the scam involves e-mails requesting personal and account information using the North Island identity and logo.The e-mails originated from illegitimate overseas entities, according to Dillingham.
here were some members who did give out their personal information, Dillingham said. Those individuals were quickly reissued new debit card numbers. She is most concerned about nonmembers who may fall victim to the scam.North Island has notified all members with active e-mail accounts, making them aware of the scam and reminding them that North Island does not send e-mails asking for personal information.North Island officials said they have also added a disclaimer to its logo as well as an informational consumer alert on its Web site.Security experts said that if you receive a message that looks suspicious, do not click any links.Consumers who have provided information related to this scam are urged to contact the North Island Credit Union immediately.
