Liberty Tax Service non-payment of wages

The Manager, Hatel, had me teach the basic tax course for two days, Monday (Jan. 10, 2011) and Tues. (Jan. 11).
He promised to pay me by the end of the week. He still hasn't paid me for the days I worked. I contacted the NYS Dept. of Labor and filed a complaint, so that
other workers won't be scammed by this company. The manager has repeatedly lied to me about sending my check.
Would you trust these people with your personal information if they repeatedly lie to their employees and dont't pay them the wages they are due!

I worked as a office manager, in PA for 3 weeks. I busted my butt with NO PAY! Needles to say I resigned from the position. I called the corporate office 2 times. They tell me someone will contact me and give me "reference number". I've just accepted the fact that i'm not getting paid but want others to be aware!

Liberty Tax Service full of lies

I recently filed out an application for a job they said wait by the phone and they would call me that evening ( never got a call) I called the next day and the reply was she had a meeting and she would call me before the next week was over ( never got a call) so I went by the office and she said no one told her ( that was a lie it was the same person I spoke with before(jerrie) so she said she(jerrie) would e-mail the test I needed to yake then she would give me 30 hrs. of work well as you know I never got the e-mail. That place is so full of lies I would never take my taxes there

Liberty Tax Service overcharged for terrible work

Never go here to get your taxes done. I have never dealt with a worse company and here's why...I had never done my taxes on my own before and wanted to get some outside professional help. There was a Liberty Tax right near my apartment, so I stepped in and had a few words with the ladies working there. They seemed very friendly and competent so I came back the following week.
I asked for a price upfront she said it would depend on my situation. After completing my taxes she attempted to charge me almost 400 dollars, now keep in mind I did live in two states that year, but I own no property, I'm a recent college grad with no spouse, no kids, and only one source of income. I balked at the price and she cut it in half for me, now that should have been my first warning sign, the fact that they could be so arbitrary with their prices. They sent me home with all my documents and detailed instructions on where and how much to send, unfortunately many of the totals they gave me were incorrect. They failed to communicate that with me even though they realized the mistakes they had made. I came to find that their head quarters had a very different set of numbers than I had. I also found out that they had failed to submit my data to another state I had lived in. Not only that by they had charged me an extra fee after I had made very clear I did not want a particular service.
I became irate and demanded my tax prep fees back. They refused even though I had ample proof that they had done a very poor job. However I did not give up. I called their customer service line every two days and sent countless emails for at least 2 months hoping that someone from Liberty would actual try to deal with my problem instead of ignoring me hoping I would go away. BTW the manager actually refused to give me the customer service line number I had to go look it up when I returned home. They gave me the runaround at every chance they could and even 'lost' my complaint twice. Eventually I did get my money back, but wasted a lot of my time in the process. Please save yourself a headache and do not go to this company.

Wow interesting you say that because I just basically got robbed from them too! Once telling me it was going to 50 bucks to complete my taxes they then gave me my paperwork. On my way home I almost lost my mind realizing they charged me $400! I lived in one state my entire life, one income, never married, and don't own a home. They're a bunch of crooks, liars and I will get my $$ back even if it means putting them out of business!

I worked for this tax service for two days teaching taxes. The manager told me the check was in the mail, but never sent the check. I finally had to contact the NYS DOL. Why would anyone trust their personal info to a bunch of liers and cheats.

For those of you who use Liberty Tax Service Etc, Please remember, these places stay open three months out of the year, yet pay rent for 12 months. How many other companies can do that. Please look for an independent TAX Professional that is open year round. It doesn 't have to be a CPA, It can be an enrolled agent.

Liberty Tax Service false quality guarantee

I had my taxes done by Liberty Taxes in 2008. The 2008 taxes were done for NY state and were done incorrectly as they did not appropriately prepare my NY state taxes. Although it was clear that I lived in NYC as all my paperwork for that timeframe was for NYC, including my W-2's, AND they filed NY state taxes, they are saying that I gave them a MD address, so they can't take responsibility. The MD address was my current addres for 2009 where I was living and asked for my taxes and forms to be sent. It was very irresponsible of them to pretend as if they did not know to use my NY address and deduct NY city taxes for the county that I lived in (King's County).

In general, I found them to be unethical in that they would not refund my return due to their error (which resulted in me getting about 2500 less in tax returns than I was expecting--I had planned to do stuff with that $). I am not sure Liberty is good at doing taxes outside of the region where they are. They didn't know how to prepare my NY city taxes as a part of my NY state taxes. If my money is not refunded, I will continue to post this story on BBB and every site I can find.

Liberty Tax Service bad franchise to buy

I just found out the very sad news from this Liberty Tax offices #1 record holding blue eye daughter named Annie Fuller that affter her short 4 season with them, breaking the national record, winning every kind of award and being paraded around to show "this is what you too can do" to prospectives buyers and current franchisees, she is now telling the truth.
The lies they feed are that its great to join them, FINANCE you business and you will earn equity, have new life, better quality and everything will be great. She is the latest in a line of seemingly successful Liberty Franchisees who have suddenly disappeared.
Although Ms Fuller is by far the most outrageous, greatest marketing queen and most generous giving person I have ever had the privilage of meeting, she too now is being kicked to the curb. John Hewitt has used her up, and when they made some mistakes, she turned to them for support, none was to be had. when she questioned their financing practices as they alledgedly took far more than they should have from her revenue, they started finding fault with her, and now finally have offered her peanuts to move on.. I will not reveal what, but this girl is amazing, thousands of liberty stores have increased revenue 10 fold from her help, she was rarely compensated for this but still gave it freely. Liberty tax and John Hewitt should wake up. I AM a current zee, I WAS going to expand this year, I NOW am more concerned about figuring a way out of debt and out from under the dictatorship of this corporation. An intersting question to ask Liberty when considering Buying or expanding is this :what percentage of franchisees who are established 2-3 years or more do over 300 tax returns per year (average fee is $200 or less btw)? The answer is less than 20%, See if they are truthful with you.
I would highly advise anyone to get into the business, NOT with Liberty and even if you are swayed by their dog and pony show, do NOT sign up for their 12% financing.
Once you start, you will not make enough to pay it off, and then they'll loan you more until you're too far upside down to ever get out.
Annie Fuller who is the exception and made plenty of money, owes less than half the value of her stores and they are forcing her to take a deal or let her stores die. They have all but told her they will block her selling her stores unless she gives THEM the money and then they decide how much profit she should get. Contact her to get her side and hear the REAL truth.. She is the epitamy of perfection with marketing, a franchisee we all strived to be like. she DID follow the system and this is how she was treated.. I'm selling too Miss Annie, I hope you read this and others DO learn the truth from you and open their eyes too!
God Blees you, and thanks for all you have done, keep positive as you always tell us. It will work out!
scared zee
When the #1 Record holding franchisee cant make it what hope is there for the rest of us?

Yes, I also lost my life savings. I was impressed with Annie. Key to failure is the minimal Liberty market share and the area overselling. Sold as a national brand, it is NOT. Nobody trusts Liberty and it is hard to pull clients from #1 and #2. You get a few EIC clients but they are dying out because of the IRS crackdown. DO NOT sign with Liberty TAX.

Liberty Tax Service exhorbitant charges

We had our taxes done by Liberty Tax Service, having missed our appointment with our accountant a few days earlier due to an illness in the family. This year our taxes cost us nearly $600 when in the past we had paid our CPA $325 to complete both the state and federal taxes with deductions. Our taxes were simpler this year, yet we paid far more than should have been charged. I will never use Liberty Tax Service again for doing our taxes, and am telling everyone I know to avoid them and seek out a good CPA or tax accountant who will do the same work for far less.

When using a Tax Service or preparer that you aren't familiar with, do not sign anything related to the return until you have reviewed the return, refund amount from the return, and a statement of the preparation and filing fees. Also, unless you are desperate for cash, do not take the 2nd day or instant retun offerings. They are a rip-off. Instead, take the 2 week refund with direct deposit (approx 3 weeks if you want a check).

If you are unhappy about your return, refund or fees, gather up your tax documents and go somewhere else. You are not obligated to pay them unless they file, and they cannot legally keep your papers. If you tell them up front that those are your terms for doing business with them, the will either tell you to go somewhere else, or will try to minimized your fees to retain your business. Until recently I worked as a tax preparer for a national firm, and would often discount fees to treat a client fairly. As an example, Dividends and Interest are both entered on thepage of the tax return, and the program that calculated charges charged $20 for a single entry on that form, with additional charges for additional entries. Somebody with a small savings account earning between $10 and $20, with no dividends, would wind up paying more to report the interest income thanhe had received in income. I would frequently not charge for that page if it was a money looser.

Liberty Tax Service rip off

RavingFan,
YES, it was unethical for him not to disclose the fees right away, especially when I asked him point blank before we started what the fees would be. He continued to respond, "We will get to that later" however never did tell me what the fees were until after the taxes were completed. I eventually contacted the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint, as well as contacted with an individual who works for Liberty Tax who confirmed they are NOT supposed to charge that large of a fee, especially for two tax forms. I eventually went back and requested my paperwork be returned and put a stop payment on the $350.00 check and went elsewhere. All these people on this site are not making this stuff up. They are ripping people off in larger amounts what they charged me and I would not refer anyone to this place because it is a scam.

It seems their practices haven't changed much!
I did my 2011 takes and same as above. I was expecting to pay less than 200 dollars, when taxes were done I ended up paying $350. I was never given an estimate on how much it was going to cost me and shame on me for not asking! Unfortunately, I was a procrastinator that year and waited until the last minute and didn't have a choice to shop around.
Out of curiosity I called back the same office again this and asked how much it would cost me to do taxes. Her response was "well, it varies on how many W-2's you have, dependents, and other factors, the system will price it at the end" I was like no thank you very much. Buyer beware!

i agree with all the complaints. i have been getting my taxes done with this company for years. i have followed my tax preparer from 5 locations in 3 years. (now i know why) i am currently waiting for my return i desperately need my money. i forgot, i could have gotten my return for free at another tax service since i do the short form and received my refund in 2 to 4 days. however, i thought as a repeat customer i would get special treatment! well its not 10 days and counting my credit union told me if you receive a draft and not a check count on it being another 5 to 7 days before you will receive funds! wow! the preparer told me 3-7 days changed it to 10 days on average then told me it could me longer you know how the irs is! well its not the irs but these out of state banks that can't keep up with the work and charge outrageous fees. i would have been better off filing myself and mailing it in, the average time is 10 to 15 days and some people all ready have their federal taxes and have cashed them. I will not be back anymore.

Liberty Tax Service did my taxes very wrong

I paid to get my taxes done by Mitch's employee. I was to get a refund. I got a letter from the IRS, and the IRS had to totally re do my taxes to correct them. I called Mitch at Liberty Tax service and he said he would refund the amount he charged me and then he never paid. I went in to discuss the problem and he said he would re do them, but as I told him, the IRS already corrected their bad work so why did I need him to re d0. He was very rude and lied several times. I would not recommend this tax preparation sevice to anyone. They do not appear to have the up to date knowledge to prepare taxes. I never got my refund he promised me twice. BEWARE OF LIBERTY TAX service in Renton off Carr Road and Petrovitsky.

As a franchise owner of Liberty Tax --I stand behind every return that is prepared in my office and the written policy. It is unfortunate that all tax professionals working for Liberty don't have the same interpretation of the policy. Customer Service is the number one concern for me as it should be for all Liberty's. Headquarters can help just email or call them.

Thanks to everyone who warned about this agency. I was trying to find a reputable location that I can trust. I called the location to ask a few questions and the person on the other could barely understand me and I could barely understand her. She did not sound interested in my call or inquiries. I thought maybe I might be able to find someone different there; but, the posts here confirm that I will be going elsewhere. THANK YOU for saving me some time, everyone!

Liberty Tax Service incompetent and over charged!

I was charged $400 for doing their job.

In past years I have always done my own taxes but was urged by my fiancé to have them done at this location this year since we bought a home and the situation was a little more complicated. He's had his taxes done at this office the last 3 or 4 years and really trusted the previous owner and his wife. He thought of them to be very knowledgeable about all of the different tax laws. When we walked in we were very surprised to see a whole new staff and were told that he no longer owns that location.

When the question came up about claiming the 1st time home buyers tax credit, the owner advised us that we could split it between the two of us. I informed him that since we had bought the house from my fiance's that he would not be allowed to claim it since I had discovered from my own research that one of the rules is you can't buy from a relative. The owner insisted to me that he had done a lot of reading up on all of the rules for claiming the credit and you hadn't seen anything stating that. I had him pull up the IRS.gov website on his computer and pointed out to him exactly where it was stated. Had my fiance and I split the credit like he advised, we would have been in serious trouble. Since my fiance and his father have the same first and last name, it surely would have been a red flag to the IRS and we would have had to find a way to pay that money back. The owner of the business claims to be an experienced professional yet someone with very little knowledge on the subject had to point this out to you...and then charge me $400 and my fiance another $150 just for the EZ form!

Gene and I will not be returning to your office in the future, nor will we be referring anyone to you

Liberty Tax put a flyer on my windshield that said they would pay me $50 to do my taxes. Instead I payed them almost $300. I asked them how they came up with that price and they said they do not know but the computer does it. I said is it based upon the refund and they said no, it is based on the paper work. My receipt listed the total cost and itemized the forms they filled out but did not list the cost for each form.

To make sure I had it straight I said, if I walked in that door and asked you how much it is to do my taxes you would not be able to tell me? And they said that was correct.

It sounds like I'm making this up doesn't it? What has the world come to when the customer is promised $50 only to find out that it is going to cost you some amount at the end, though we don't know what the amount will be, or have any idea until the process is finished. No estimate, no basis for the charge, just "the computer is going to do it".

I guess I should be grateful they did not charge me a million dollars.

That will be a million dollars sir? What! How did you come up with that! Computer says.

Liberty Tax Service over charged

We went to Liberty Tax last year to file our federal taxes. We almost fell on the floor when they presented us with a bill of $486.00 for a return that only took a few hours to prepare! They never disclosed prices up front. Naturally had they done that, we would have run like the wind! We went to our regular tax accountant this year and only paid $150. to have all of the same forms filled out. Our accountant was stunned at what we were charged by Liberty. Furthermore, we have discovered errors by Liberty that will cause us to have to have the return they prepared amended. STAY AWAY FROM LIBERTY TAX

I agree whole heartedly with the outrageous fees Liberty Tax Service charges. I recently had my taxes prepared February 5, 2010. I really went to inquire what it would cost. I had been preparing my taxes myself. I didn't even have all my information nor 2008 tax papers for comparison, but the customer service preparer informed me the cost depended upon the number of sheets needed (with a smile) and proceeded to enter information into the computer. I assumed that would require the 1040 sheets, Itemized deduction sheet, and my state tax forms. I was shocked to the subtotal came up to $591. I discovered later that didn't include the banking fees to have my return deposited into my account in which fees were deducted from both my federal and state returns! Several weeks after I read through all my forms, I discovered the "Our Written Guarantee" stapled in the folder at the bottom of my prepared papers which was not disclosed to me. Liberty guarantees a free consultation, but did not offer it. It turns out my total fee was $650! I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau. I am still waiting on a response.

Liberty Tax Service unfair business practices

We used this tax service for 2007 and 2008, with no issues. This time we went to a different branch. They did not disclose how much they were charging. Then when we read through the paperwork we call imediately to dispute $440 charge! I even went there, they said they could lower it if they did it different, but we would get less money from Government. After the money was direct deposited, they added an additional charge of $49.95. When we disputed it, they said it was for efiling, which, we thought was free. Again, this was not disclosed. I have tried calling corporate office 4 times, and no one will call me back. DON'T USE THIS TAX SERVICE! It would have been cheaper going to an accountant.

One thing you have to realize is that the state of Oregon is the only one that requires tax preparers to be pass an 80-hour course, be licensed, and have 30 hours of continuing ed every year. Starting next year the federal government is going to require tax preparers to be registered with the IRS, but in the past just anyone could walk in off the street and get a job preparing taxes in the other states besides Oregon. I'm glad this is happening, because tax prep can get very complicated.

The other thing is that Liberty has a written guarantee, and it sounds like some franchises are choosing not to honor it. As far as contacting corporate, I haven't ever needed to, so I can't give any input on that.

OMG. These people in the Long Beach office located off of Artesia Blvd and Downey Avenue totally ruined my taxes for the second year in a row. The owner Dan gave me a coupon (Free Tax Preparation) to use this year. But when I tried to use it he became angry with me and embarrased me in front of dozens of people at his store. I called the corporate office and filed a complaint. Also I have been dealing with the Franchise Tax Board regarding Dependant Child Tax that they disallowed me starting in 2005. This was the only debt that i knew that I owed. I went to Liberty tax and explained to Wiliiam (Tax Preparer) of my situation and. He said that he would help with my prior years debt problem with FTB and would not efile my taxes unless he finds that the FTB will not take my taxes. This idiot called another Liberty Tax and only asked a question then pressed send and sent my efile to the IRS. He did not do what he promised he would do. He did not take time with my unique situation. As of today, it wasn't FTB that was waiting to collect It was DOJ from an incident from 2006. Again William did not carry out his promise to me. I have called everyday to check on the status of my refund with them giving me false hope like, their only going to take a portion, your refund is scheduled to be released by the 8th, etc. So I called this morning and got into a swearing match with the owners wife Patty who told me that I am calling to much after her husband filed my taxes for free. No one in their "to busy" office told me that FMS (Federal Management System) or some crap took my entire tax refund and claimed it as an Off set. I learned it through the mail this morning. Liberty Tax corporate office needs to be more professional and more knowledgable before dealing with real situations in other peoples lives. They dont need to allow just anyone to operate a franchise just to make them a quick dollar. They need to pre-screen people and except an contract from those who have dealt with the General Public before. There services sucks! If there are any lawsuits going please let me know...mshickson562@hotmail.com

Liberty Tax Service most unprofessional service

1-25-10, I entered into contract with Liberty Tax in Grosse Pointe - Owner Don McGlone) for a Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL). I was attempting to obtain my refund money in time to purchase a used car that was available for a very short time.

I was told at that time, both verbally and in writing that I would receive notification of approval (or lack of) within 24 hrs and, if approved, I would receive my refund of $4781 within 48 hrs from the signing of the contract. The fee for such service was $342 to Liberty Tax and $87.24 to a Republic Bank.

Liberty Tax failed to follow through on this contract, as well as multiple promises to call me. When I tried to call the # provided, I was told that there was no phone line into the office at which I had filed my return, and that I could only speak to people at another office, who knew nothing about my file. I was also told that there was a "problem with the computer system at the IRS that prevented anyone from filing anything electronically, " and that was likely why I had not received my RAL within the 48 hrs specified in the contract.

On 1-29-10, I called the IRS directly. The IRS rep told me that my return had never actually been filed, and that there were no problems with their computer system at all. - that the IRS had been consistently accepting and receiving electronic filings since 1-15-10. He strongly advised me to go back and ask for all of my docs, and to inform them as to the cancellation of any contract, which had already been defaulted upon by them. He also provided me with instructions for filing a complaint against them with the Federal Government. After work, I stopped by the Grosse Pointe Liberty Tax office at which I had filed the return and asked for my paperwork, which they gave back to me with no apology or explanation whatsoever.

I have now lost the opportunity to purchase the intended car, and the process of receiving my refund money has been further delayed. I am a single parent on a fixed income, and this has truly caused hardship for me.

Why are you people going to these rip-offs, just get turbo tax and pay a college kid to input your info.
Use last years return if your financial situation hasn't changed that much. If it has go to someone you trust and not these rip-offs.

Liberty Tax Service deception

I had my taxes done at Liberty I was offered a one day refund or a two week refund. I chose the one day refund which I was denied for, so I was told i ended up doing the two week refund which is not a two week refund. After two weeks of waiting, you have to then wait another one to four days for the deposit to clear they say. Why would someone in their right mind want to pay high fees for a refund they are going to receive fifteen plus days later. You cantwait and get your refund in the mail for free. They dont deliver what the promise. They dont tell you this up front because they know no one would choose this. They dont tell you their fees up front, the young lady who did my taxes, told me what i had coming back, with their fees already subtracted. A t.errible way to buissiness. I would recommend them to my worst enemy.

Liberty Tax Service missing paperwork

Went to have taxes amended in July 09 after purchasing my house just like I was told by real estate agent. Paid liberty tax $125 to file the amendment. They told me it would be 6 to 8 weeks before I got my check. well at the end of week 8 I had not heard anything so I call the IRS, and they tell me that my amendment was rejected for missing paperwork. I had to refile and now the wait period was 12-16 weeks. I went back and liberty told me that this happens all the time. they redid the amendment but for some reason did not include the missing form. They told me it wasn't needed. and gave me 50% of my 09 taxes.in December 09 I called the IRS again to see if they made any progress. was told that on 12-6-09 that they were re-evaluating my claim and that it would be another 45 days. I call at the end of 45 days and got no explanation on why I still haven't got the check and that it would be another 3o days from 1-20-10. Went back to liberty to demand a refund of my original payment and was told they couldnt do that since the owner was not there and the IRS already had my amendment. Left my contact info and was told to expect a call that night. Waited till Saturday for a call and nothing so I went back and told the owner what happened. He offered to do my 09 taxes for free. I responded with "If you can't file my amendment right the first two times why should I trust you with my actual return?" I filed my return with H&R Block and I will actually get my 09 return before I get my tax credit. The problem is I was part of a program where the state uses part of the housing credit to make the down payment on my house and because I still haven't got the tax credit it will turn into a second mortgage that I have to pay on for the next ten years. Avoid LIberty Tax it is a waste of time.

Liberty Tax Service false advertising

I filed my taxes with Liberty Tax Service because of the advertisied RAL, I relize that these loans are a rip off to begin with but I was in desperate need of cash, Liberty charge around $500.00 to do a simple return and then I was refused the RAL because of a tax debt but when I contacted the treasurer department they said I did not have a debt, so it cost me $500.00 to do my return which I could have done for free myself and got it back in the same amount of time. I will never use Liberty again and I hope others wont as well.

I filed my taxes with Liberty Tax Service in Fayetteville, NC. I was told that it would cost me $90.00 for the simple return and I would receive a portion of my refund the next day if all checked out ok. However, the bank refused to upfront me any payment. When I received my federal taxes about 10 days later into my bank, I found that they had taken an additional $200.00 out of the return. Then to top it all off, they took my whole state tax refund ($275.00). I could have filed my taxes for free and saved myself some heartache. My boyfriend had his taxes done the same day at Liberty Tax Service also. He also was denied the next day service. Of the $455.00 he was to get back from the Federal, all he ended up with was $50.00. This company needs to be fully investigated. I plan on going to the Attorney Generals Office and lodge a formal complaint.

Liberty Tax Service awful service

I am writing to get a resolution to the serious injustice my husband and I have encountered, at the Aberdeen SD. store. Owned by Terry Narum of Sioux Falls SD.

January 2009, we chose Liberty Tax for filing our 2008 taxes. During this preparation I noticed that I had forgotten, my Wyndham Hotels W-2. Sense we lived only a few blocks away, I drove home and got it. When arriving back, I handed papers to the tax preparer. After being there for almost Two hours, we where thrilled to be getting a return of $5391.00, the most we had ever gotten back, we where so happy we wanted to sign and get our money.

January 2010, I received a letter from the IRS stating that we did not summit $10, 910.00 worth of taxable income. IRS states we owed $2187.00 for this error. Confused I called Liberty Tax [protected], phone being answered by a message that they are open on Wednesdays; I left a message with my concerns and ask for a return call. That week went by with no call back.

January 13th, I called again and made an appointment for the 14th @ 3:00pm, reinstating my concerns.

I took with me the same papers; I had received from the preparer in 2009.

Rose was sitting at her desk as I sat down; she took a folder from her desk drawer, which was mine. I gave Rose the letters from IRS, after about Five minutes I explained to her how to read them. Rose, then informed me that my W-2 from Wyndham Hotels was not in there file. I handed her my file and she went threw it, stating the something. I became upset and asked what Liberty was going to do to help me correct this, at that time Rose offered to pay penalties and interest, I told her that was not enough. Rose asked how I knew I gave all W-2's to preparer, told of having to go home and get them, coming back and handing them to him. At that time she said person that did ours work on Monday the 18th, she would talk to him and call me. Still very upset I said like the call back I got last week, after leaving a message. Rose at the time told me that not all calls get heard, which only added more anger toward Liberty Tax. I told Rose at that time I would protest in front of store if I could not get the help that was needed to correct this. I asked for a guaranteed call, was told yes on Monday the 18th.

The meeting lasted about 20 minutes. So frustrated when I got home, I went threw my papers in the folder and found the missing W-2, which she had over looked, I have to wonder on purpose.

Thinking I would just give up and go away.

I never got that call either on the 18th.

I call Liberty Tax on, January 20th, was told they were going to do nothing sense I signed papers, all this was my fault, reinstated that I would start at 4:00pm and end at 5:30pm for the next Five days, with protesting. I, was told that I better not do that, I ended call.

At 3:45pm I received a phone call from Terry Narum, asking about my protest. Terry telling me that I signed papers and that there is nothing they will do to help, also that he would have his Lawyer after me. I asked are you threatening me, was told it would be a fact. I stated the 1st Amendment, and told of talking to all the local authorities on my rights, Captain Dave McNeil, from sheriffs office, saying that I was well within my rights to be on the sidewalk, which is city property. At that time Mr. Nanum said "look little missy you better watch your self". I asked Mr. Nabum never to call me that. I ended call, feeling that I was being threatened and he was trying to scare me.

Arriving at 4:00pm, we set up and held our signs proud.

Being there only Fifteen minutes a Liberty employee came and asked us to leave, I politely said no. Few moments later a Police Officer arrived with KSFY news reporter. The Officer went into store and reporter started filming, Officer came out and spoke with us, telling us that we had every right to be there and left.

During that hour and half Seven cars stopped and asked us what was going on, we told our story and they told theirs, of the dealings they had with Liberty Tax. Not good ones. Those persons also stated that, if it where not so cold out, they would be right with us. Jay and I had our picture taken by at least twenty different people. Aberdeen News Paper also did interview.

January, 21st our second day, was just as eventful, persons taking pictures and honking, waving, giving us thumbs ups.

KSFY stopped and finished interview, which aired at 10:00pm on the 22nd.

Mr. Hewitt, we are asking that you correct this with the IRS. Jay and I are very humble people, that don't have a lot. We really needed our refund this year to buy groceries, diapers, pay our huge heat bill. The IRS has taken our whole refund.

As a former Liberty Tax employee (Paid Income Tax Preparer) I would alway put a check mark at the top of any/all documents given to me to make sure I didn't miss any. The fact that you went home to get this SPECIFIC w-2 makes it hard for me to believe it could have possibly been overlooked!

Over the year I worked for liberty(they don't deserve a capital "L") I had heard on more than one occasion from the owner that "we are a marketing company which happens to do taxes"!

How crase and unprofessional could one possibly be about something that is so important to all U.S. citizens?

Everyone makes mistakes, but if you make a mistake-stand up and do what needs to be done for your client! That is how you build a business.

I have read "what do you call a former liberty tax franchisee-"a defendant". They take many of the people that choose to let their franchise go and file a suit for "the non-compete clause" in their inital franchisee agreement even if it doesn't really apply to the individual franchisee. Their superior capital (money) let's them just bully the ex-franchisee with incurred legal fees until the franchisee is financially not able to defend themselves in court any longer. That prohibits them from forming another tax prepartation company of their own, in whatever the area designated in the initial agreement.

Be smart, don't have your taxes prepared by any company because you see someone outside in a "lady libery" costume.

THIS IS THEIR VERSION OF "LIBERTY" !

Hello nadine7819,
We appreciate you reaching out to us again via complaintboard.com. As you are aware we have received your emails regarding the issue stated above. We are sorry that this happened to you as our customer. As stated in the guarantee, we do not pay the tax that is assessed when an error is made on a return. Due to your particular tax situation, the tax due would be the same whether or not the return was filed correctly the first time. However, penalty and interest would not have been assessed and we will gladly refund those fees upon receipt of a copy of the letter from the Internal Revenue Service outlining those particular fees. We hope you accept our offer to refund your tax preparation fee and pay the penalty and interest which is currently due resulting from the omission of the W2.

Kind regards,
Liberty Tax Customer Care

The manager's name is Rosetta not Rose, and I'm pretty sure that if you were missing a W2 with an income of over 10, 000 you should be smart enough to notice that. Also, if you ran home to get this W2 they would not have filed your taxes, the would have put it on hold. Even if they tried to file them, you would have had to sign the paperwork and either pay right then or pick an option. Plenty of people come in day in and day out to just see how much it costs and end up not filling for whatever reason and they are never charged or filed without their permission. Also, if you noticed it after you filed you would have had the rest of the tax season to file an amendment, which I would assume you would have noticed if you would have picked up your tax file that you are supposed to which contains a copy of your tax returns and your w2s. I do believe you are a scam artist.

I'd just like it known that Liberty Taxes are still to this day in 2014 up to the same tricks and worse.

Last Year Liberty charged me $415 for doing my taxes. Just yesterday I walked out because Liberty Taxes wants to charge me $750 with a $150 'discount' making my cost $600 and $50 in my pocket! I called over the manager and tried to see why it was so much and he said I shouldn't complain they are just trying to help me get a decent refund which was only $1, 200 after their payment, on top of not getting earned income for my 2 kids because they said I didn't make enough of my own money last year..

He said I worked temp so a W2, self-employment and unemployment and so they were charging me $200 per tax form...I am not an accountant so is this ridiculous or is this the way it is done all for a 1, 200 rebate?

I took my paperwork and went to H&R they are still charging $250, is much much better and the refund has shot up to more than 5, 000 with them because I will be getting Earned income for my daughters.

I'm done with Liberty I feel like making a sign and marching in front warning all those who don't know better away!

I got a call saying i was approved for $500 from the office in Franklin. When I went in to receive my check they found that the server was down and unable to accept signatures. I returned the next morning and was told "I don't know how to print the checks…sorry". I then called after work that same day and asked if the person working was able to print checks. They said yes and told me stop in. Upon arriving I found that once again they were unable to take electronic signatures. I must admit I became irate! They made a phone call that took over ten minutes and resolved nothing! I am now at their mercy and have no clue when the check i am approved for will be printed!

I also had a bad experience at Liberty. I had to tell the girl that was doing the taxes what deductions I could actually take and she must have made a total of seven phone calls to two different managers for assistance and to confirm my deductions. I needed the money to pay my tuition so I decided to go with the RAL, which I was supposed to receive within 48 hours. I never heard from them and 4 days later I called to see if my check was ready. I was told the loan was not approved and now I would have to wait another 8 days. I still have to pay the fees for the loan even though they are waiting until it goes through with the IRS. They charged me well over $200 just to do my taxes. I will never use Liberty again!

My husband and I sat for over two hours watching some new guy at Liberty Tax try to do our taxes. TWO HOURS. Then when he finally finished and gave us the price, we left. I think they are a bit overpriced for the staff they employ. The whole time I was sitting there watching this guy type in our information on the computer, I was listening to all the other employees making phone calls about how they were sorry and this changed, Blaa Blaa Blaa. They would have to refile, it was gonna take an extra week. I don't think any of them knew what they were doing. So we went to a different tax place, + $300 difference. Yeah, that was our experience. Wish I could get my 2 hours back somehow.

at least you got a call to let you know you werent approved. in keene nh they offered 50 cash when you fill out your taxes but didnt advertise when so i didnt get mine at first. i had to file a complaint to get that. i didnt get a call to let me know that i didnt get approved. i also got charged 500 to do my taxes which to me is taking advantage of parents getting earned credit from the government. i will never ever ever use them again.

Liberty Tax Service last pay check

On April 8, 2009 I was informed by the owner Terri Perice she would need a waver the last week of tax season. I was told they needed me to work long hours it was a total of 51 hours. I've ran into Terri once outside of the establishment and she told me she needs my information to report to corporate, but by being an employee my information should be in the office. I've called once a week on Thursdays between 9am-3pm but will not return phone calls. Im just curious about how to go about obtaining my check for the work I did.

CALL LIBERTY. I would almost guarantee that the owner is not in good standing with Corporate.

File a complaint with the Ohio Divison Of Labor & Workers Safety. Do a web search on that term to find their web site.

And/or call

Call Liberty headquarters at [protected]

Either way, you should definately contact the Divsion of Labor & Workers Safety so that they know the owner of this business is violating federal and state labor laws. You might not be alone.

Good luck! And do not give up until you are compensated.
