Very poor 🤒
We don't know much about how Dollar Tree handles customer complaints outside ComplaintsBoard, but what we see here, on our website, is quite disappointing. We think there might be reasons for the company's actions (like not knowing about the complaints), and we would be happy to see them among customer-focused businesses that easily solve customer problems. But until that happens, we ask reviewers to be cautious when dealing with Dollar Tree and using their services, and to carefully read the experiences of other customers on ComplaintsBoard, because who is warned is armed, you know! 💪

Dollar Tree Store #214 cashier name: Amique

I shop at dollar tree ofter. At store 214 as I was getting in line to make my purchase, amique turned off her light. There were lines, and I asked her if she was closed and she replied "yes". The moment I stepped in another checkout line, amique asked the customer behind me to step into her checkout line. She took the african american woman who was behind me instead of assisting me.

I replied to her why did she do that. She got all mouthy and said "go ahead and report me. Do you want my name?" I obtained her first name from another checker. I have never been treated in this way before in my entire life. This yound girl needs to be strongly reprimanded. The sooner the better. I am going to persist in this girl having consequences for her bigoted behavior.

Thank you

Dollar Tree Customer service/store manager’s attitude

Dear Sir,

My name is Amy Broussard. I am a 62 years old widow who shops at Dollar Tree regularly for my 9 grandchildren. My complaint is about the manager at the small town Dollar Tree in Reserve, LA. Store #06753. Address: 3919 Airline Hwy, Reserve, Louisiana [protected], On Friday July 14,2023. My friend an I arrived at the store around 1:45pm and shopped till around 3:00pm. We had 2 baskets full when we went to the register and when we checked out we ended up with 3 baskets. My bill came to $450.56. I gave the cashier/manager $350.56 in cash. and $100.00 on my debt card. She got so mad that she had already pushed the cash button and I didn’t have it all in cash. It was never a problem before with other cashiers. This lady preceded to tell me to return all the stuff because I messed her up. My purchases added up to $450.56. She kept telling me in the front of the other customers that I was supposed to tell her when I got to the register that I had two forms of payment. It’s not her job to tell her what payment I had that it was my job to do that. I told her I did not know that and her response was that she is not a genie. Because it was so much my friend had already started putting the stuff in the truck. I told her OK I would return it. That’s the only solution she had. I was really disappointed that I couldn’t get what I had spent over an hour shopping. She didn’t offer any other way to resolve this problem but she just wanted me to return it. While my friend was getting the things back out the truck she called another employee to start putting back my stuff I had shopped. She also started talking about me to the other customers while I was waiting for my refund money. She waited on 3 customers before she started helping me again. After she waited on those customers she told me she had given me back my money which she hadn’t. She was so angry the whole time she was dealing with me. I am caucasian.

All the other customers were African American and she treated myself and my friend totally different. I was feeling very nervous that she wasn’t going to give me my money back. She ended up taking the drawer out of the register, went into an office and came back out to get a receipt out the other register She went back into the office (without saying anything) and later came out and handed me $350.00 without a word. I waited for my Chang.56 and she said, “what else”? I told her about the.56 and she got mad again. I ended up just getting out of there cause she was being so ugly to us. The total for my purchase was $450.56. She not only threw away a large sale she wasted my time by just throwing away the sale. This is a small town Dollar General. I assume they don’t get a $450.00 sale daily. I won’t be going to Dollar Tree anymore. I would rather pay a little extra at Dollar General than to be treated like that. At least when I make a big purchase at Dollar General they are grateful and excited. It makes for a happy shopping trip. I am just so disappointed that in these times with the economy being so bad managers do not appreciate customers and their purchases. I come from a big family and I will warn others of the manager attitude in this Dollar Tree. I have to say that this is the worse shopping experience I have ever had in my 62 years. I have worked in retail all my life. How is employees to know how to treat customers if management treats customers this way. This is the 1st time I have written a complaint letter about a person in retail. I know how hard it is and everyone has bad days. This was just to way over the top not to write a complaint. Thank You for reading this letter. I hope this manager learns how to treat customers. From Very Disappointed Former Customer.

Desired outcome: Better Customer Service

Dollar Tree Harassment and intimation

On July 14th, 2023, I was shopping at store # 4820 in Randolph, Massachusetts, while I was shopping, I was followed and stared at while trying to purchase items by a manager and employee, Store security camera can validate I behavior in terms of not acting in a suspicious manner, I was followed up to the register line while waiting to cash out for purchase. I felt nervous, afraid, and being intimated. If someone from your office can investigate this matter would help ease some of my fears of going back to that store. Going forward, my hope is to have a positive experience while shopping at the Dollar Tree Stores. A reply from someone within Human Resource Department at your earliest convenience is greatly appreciated. I can be reached at [protected].

Dollar Tree Charging for bags when we don't want them.

In Colorado, we now have to pay for bags at checkout if we need them. So we have gotten into the habit of bringing our own bags. TWICE now, at the Canon City store, we were asked if we needed bags and said NO. They charged us anyway. I didn't realize it until later. It's not a large amount by any means, only 10 cents each time, but it's the principle. NOT COOL. Not sure if this is a deliberate attempt to make a few extra bucks every day or not. I hope everyone checks their receipts before they leave the store. If you pay for a bag, you may as well make them give you one.

Desired outcome: Speaking to the employees about this. Or, if it's deliberate, KNOCK IT OFF.

Dollar Tree Manager's Attitude

The manager (I assume he is now the manager) at the Dollar Tree, Store #7642, is obnoxious and rude, as he was again on July 9, 2023. He has acted miserably at every Dollar Tree store in my county. He has a very short fuse, and it seems many have to tip-toe around him.

This employee has been at the other two local Dollar Tree stores, and is currently at the West Gate Drive location, West End, NC. It is NOT a pleasure to shop at any Dollar Tree store where he is present.

He has consistently been rude and unapproachable. He is confrontational and loud. His attitude leaves a lot to be desired, and I do not plan to ever return to Store #7642.

Desired outcome: Reprimand

Dollar Tree Service

Good morning,

I recently visited. Location #7418 on July 1st and purchase a few items one being Breyers ice cream retailed @$5.00. However, when I made it home and decided to have a serving, I opened the package, and it was freezer bitten. I went to return the item into store today and wasn't pleased with my interaction with the store manager. I enter the location the older lady at the register didn't greet me as she was drinking under stable. She was very nice in assisting me with my concern she then picked the phone up to get the manager. The manager came out of office in front of store didn't say one word to me in acknowledge me and my concern(eating). The sales rep explains to manager the issue. The manager then looked at the item and stated looks like you let it melt and refroze it. The manager then tells me you can go get another one I explain to her I didn't want this to happen I again, so I asked for a refund or even a gift card. She stated no you can just grab something else then in which I really didn't want to at the time. I very disappointed with store manager passive aggressive behavior. Her was Angela.

Desired outcome: Yes, If the DM would have a conversation with his/her store manager on profiling or prejudging guest to insure everyone receive great guest service.

Dollar Tree in Auburn, California has had lots of empty shelves (even on their scheduled delivery days of Tuesday and Friday) for at least the past three weeks. When I asked why this was to a few of the employees the answer was consistent. "The Manager won't give anyone additional hours during the work week because it will make her bonus a lot smaller".

DOES ANY RETAIL STORE MAKE MONEY FROM UNSOLD PRODUCTS SITTING IN A WAREHOUSE OR BACKROOM?

Where is the District Manager at this time? We used to see the old District Manager at the Auburn store a couple of times a month. He even helped stocking shelves a few times and at that time he had managed a store in the Sacramento area. We never see his replacement District Manager (only once this year).

I knew a store manager for Longs Drugs in Fresno California years ago. He wore a suit and tie and didn't have a store receiver. HE was the receiver and when a delivery came in, he had someone IMMEDIATELY put it out on the shelves. He told me, "Products don't make money for the company sitting in the back room".

Thank you.

Dollar Tree Complaint regarding poor customer service from tamika at store #490

Dear Dollar Tree Customer Service,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my deep disappointment and dissatisfaction with the terrible customer service I experienced at your Dollar Tree store #490 located at 5502 Fry Road, Katy, TX 77449. The incident occurred on July 3, 2023, at 8:41 PM.

During my visit to the store, I encountered an employee named Tamika who displayed an incredibly rude and unprofessional attitude towards me as a customer. I initially approached John, who was manning the register, to inquire about the name of his coworker. John informed me that her name was Tamika, which I later discovered firsthand.

Upon asking Tamika if the store had any spray bottles in stock, she responded in an aggressive and disrespectful manner. She shouted at me, directing me to the bottles located near the store entrance. Feeling taken aback by her tone and demeanor, I began searching for the items she had suggested. Unfortunately, Tamika proceeded to scream at me once again, this time in front of other customers, ridiculing me for not being able to locate the spray bottles in a blue box.

As a customer, I firmly believe that such behavior is absolutely unacceptable and a clear violation of the principles of good customer service. I have always regarded Dollar Tree as a store that values its customers and strives to provide a positive shopping experience. However, this incident with Tamika has left me questioning the integrity and work ethic of your employees.

It is disheartening to see that some employees are allowed to exhibit such blatant rudeness and lack of respect toward customers. This kind of behavior not only reflects poorly on Tamika as an individual but also tarnishes the reputation of Dollar Tree as a whole.

I kindly request that you thoroughly investigate this matter and take appropriate action against Tamika for her unacceptable behavior. Additionally, I urge you to reinforce the importance of proper customer service etiquette among all your employees. It is crucial for Dollar Tree to maintain a culture of respect and professionalism toward customers.

As a loyal customer, I sincerely hope that Dollar Tree will address this issue promptly and effectively. I trust that you will take my complaint seriously and implement measures to ensure that incidents like these do not occur in the future.

I would appreciate a response from Dollar Tree regarding the actions you plan to take in response to this complaint. I believe that by addressing this issue and striving for continuous improvement, Dollar Tree can restore my confidence in the company's commitment to exceptional customer service.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon. You can reach me back at my email address [protected]@hotmail.com

Yours sincerely

Rosa Garcia

Dollar Tree Management poor service

Store 3184, 7/2/23 5:15 PM, only one "NEW" cashier open and lines going down the aisle. Two other associates in the store and no one helped the poor new cashier. One provided her assistance and went back in the office. Katelyn was paged and didn't respond promptly, then walked by the line down the aisle and said I need to do xx first and then I'll help with the lines. When I went to say something Kately attempted to talk over me and continued to rudely interrupt when I brought it to her attention. New cashier on a holiday weekend with a line down the aisle, not good management. I find Katelyn to be rude, loud, and obnoxious! On other occasions when I shop in my neighborhood store, I have seen the same behavior of her, she is NOT a leader. When I asked for a DM's number and the number to corporate, she said she didn't know it, what store manager doesn't know how to handle customer complaints and provide corporate information. I can go around the other corner to Dollar General if you don't want my business and give them my money! Just because it's a dollar store doesn't mean customers should be ignored and have to wait in line FOREVER to be checked out.

Desired outcome: I would like a call from the DM for this store. My number is [protected] and my name is Robin [protected]@aol.com

Dollar Tree "Brittany" store number 7390. Racism and harassment

Brittany (manager) has shown prejudice for ethnic families shopping at this location (store 7390). Brittany has shown a constant need to harass and stereotype ethnic customers with small children. She has shown a unprofessional demeanor towards loyal ethnic customers and has even yelled while on the phone assisting a customer. Brittany is bias when it comes to customer product exchanges (picking and choosing who she will allow to make an exchange). I would love to give this location more stars because this store location has always been great for the community. Pamela, the store's sales associate is great, she has great customer service skills, she is friendly, knowledgeable and always helpful. Thank you Pamela.

Incident happen June13,2023 and June 29, 2023

Desired outcome: Termination or retrain and send her to a new location. Train on the proper exchange policy. Train Brittany on what acceptable customer service skills are. Customers have a right to shop, no matter what color their skin is.

Dollar Tree Manager, Chantell Jonathan

To whom it may concern,
Please see email below.
Dear Reva

Since 2007, Birch Family Services (Day Habilitation Program) and the Dollar Tree organization have been in partnership. As such, the organization allowed groups of people with disability to volunteer at your East 98th Street and Flatbush branches, and have even providing gainful employment opportunity to qualified candidates from this population. Birch appreciates Dollar Tree policy on inclusiveness and wishes to continue with this partnership.

On May 4, 2023, we were advised by the new manager that Dollar Tree will not need our services for the next two weeks. At the expiration of those two weeks, I spoke with the new manager, Chantell Jonathan, who advised that the people with developmental disabilities volunteering services will no longer be needed at Dollar Tree indefinitely. The reason given was that the store was going to be developed into a superstore and I sought clarification, and none was given.

Notwithstanding the inability to volunteer at the worksite, the individuals still continue to support the store by making purchases there regularly. The group miss going to the worksite, the staff there miss having them around and so a manager, Kim Edwards, allows the group to volunteer on Thursday on her shift.

Regards,
Carole
Birch Family Services has had a long-standing, productive relationship with Dollar Tree, and we would very much like it to continue. When Dollar Tree hires one of our volunteers, they get a well-trained staff and tax deductions.
Sincerely,
Reva Zawel
Senior Coordinator, Birch Family Services

Desired outcome: We would like to continue volunteering, as it is extremely beneficial to both parties. Birch Family Services has had a long-standing, productive relationship with Dollar Tree, and we would very much like it to continue.

Dollar Tree Store inventory on shelves

Galesburg Illinois store location.

Every time I go into the dollar tree store… There are more boxes in the back room (you can see then) then there is inventory on the shelf! Many many many occasions, I’m still finding newly stocked inventory for New Year’s Eve, or Christmas glasses, etc. If the inventory had been put on the shelf during the holiday season, they would not just be finding it in the back room. It’s extremely frustrating to go into the store and consistently finding empty shelves, while not finding… The item that you need!

Desired outcome: Get employees to put inventory on the shelves.Store has to be driven by numbers. You can’t sell inventory if it’s in the back room.

Dollar Tree Its not about the products I shop at dollar tree.

Ive been a regular customer at my local DT for at least 10 years. I shop once a week averaging about $60. This week I decided to go shop for some July 4th decorations. This time I have not shopped for two weeks until yesterday. When I came in I didnt see my favorite once retired salesperson at the cashier whose name is RUSTY. Let me tell you about Rusty. Hes retired like me, hes been working at this DT for a good one year. The moment I met him for the first time he was to me the best representation of what a salesperson should be. He had an endearing, enigmatic, and irresistible personality. Before he came, Dollar Tree was like the cemetery you had to visit out of necessity.

After Rusty joined this team, his customers enjoyed shopping not only for the cheap products but honestly because he lighted the room every time. He was just a captivating person who made your shopping spree one level up with fun and laughter. His voice towered even at the back of the store when he greeted every customer who just walked in like they were friends hes not seen in a long time. And at the cashier, while hes doing the final charging of your items he is most considerate and sensitive to the nuances of the products you are paying and his side comments were always positive and service centered to you the customer.

I really enjoyed shopping at DT when Rusty was working so I try to schedule my trip when he did. But yesterday I was shocked that he was gone and a new young teenage-looking man I have not seen before was speaking to another customer at the cashier and replied to a customer who asked, Hey where is Rusty? He replied that Rusty was fired for misbehaving toward a customer something like acting in a non-professional way but he didnt give the details of course. So I also asked him later about Rusty and he replied the same but said Rusty was let go before he was hired.

Of course, I was not there to give my opinion if the action against him was justified or not. All I can say is that from my vantage view, Rusty was the best thing that happened to the local DT where I shopped. Whatever he did, maybe justified for letting him be fired, that's the decision of the employer. But I'm just wondering why DT could not consider as a whole the positive contributions of this person and allowed him to be able to return after say putting him on leave to ponder on his "sins" against his company. Maybe giving him a second chance? Ive not ever seen any incident of unproductive and difficult customers in my ten years of shopping there so I cant even wrap my mind around the possibility of Rusty acting i such an out of control way because of his gregarious and ready-to-please personality .

So this is for you Rusty, wherever you are, I hope youre in a better place where the concept of a second chance is still celebrated. Im retired too and as a former health professional working in the busiest local hospital ER, trauma setting, in the southside of Chicago for over 20+ years there's not a day where I didnt embrace and pray for second chances even for people especially young people, who made wrong decisions and were now lying almost in their death beds.

Desired outcome: Celebrate sales team members who actually say they love their job and who show that by making their customers walk in as if they are the most important people that day.

Dollar Tree Employee customer service

I am writing this complaint in regards to customer service at one of your stores in Compton, California store #5484 sales associate Zulema. On 6/6/23 there were 2 registers being used to check out the customers, 1 register #3 had it's light on and was assisting customers and had a long line which extended down the aisle, the second register #4 did not have it's light on, but the clerk would assist customers by "stating next in line on register 4". I observed this for about 4-5 customers. Shortly thereafter a young hispanic lady walked up to line #4 and clearly saw all of us waiting in one line to be served and I stated the line is back here, the young lady looked at us and looked at the clerk and the clerk told her "I can help you" so at this time I became furious and stated well then I'm next in line and placed my items on the counter at register 4, but she (Zulema) continued to service the hispanic young, no apology was given in fact she did not say anything. I told her if you do things correct and in order you can prevent unnecessary problems and that if her line was open then she should turn on her light so that all customers would know that she was open instead of showing bias to a certain nationality. I feel this was poor customer service and has no place in society and in the workplace that's especially made up in a community that has diversity among it's citizens. As I was completing my transaction, an African American young lady asked her if they had a certain item and Zulema was very rude to her when she responded "well if you didn't see it back there, then we don't have it".

Desired outcome: Explain to this clerk to display unbiased professionalism and respect to all customers that patronize this establishment. There is no place for blatant racism and discrimination in America. Maybe she needs cultural and ethnicity training.

Dollar Tree Bad experience with rude employee

Store # 156
9870 W Broad St, Glen Allen, VA 23060
Been visiting this store for 20+ years.
Simply asked an employee for a question. She became hostile and very rude. I walked away and she wouldn't stop insulting me. I asked for her name and she refused to give it to me.
Then she rushes to the store manager to "report" me before I can get to him to discuss what happens. She wouldn't give us our privacy and began getting belligerent in front of customers. He was not supportive and actually began laughing with her. I need this resolved or for their regional manager to get in touch with me. Nobody's answering to file this incident so they understand what's truly going on in their stores and take appropriate action.

Desired outcome: Employee fired for harassment, bad service & customer bullying

Dollar Tree complaint regarding unprofessional conduct of employee at dollar tree fairview

I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration regarding an unpleasant experience I had at your Dollar Tree store located at 153 Bergen Blvd, Fairview, NJ 07022. On June 4, 2023, at approximately 9:40 AM, I encountered an employee who exhibited unprofessional behavior, which not only left a negative impression but also reflects poorly on your establishment.

Upon my arrival at the Dollar Tree Fairview, I was met by an employee stationed at the entrance, who informed me that the store was closed and I could not enter. When I inquired about the reason for the early closure, I was told, "We have the right to close as early as we want." The employee made no attempt to provide any explanation or assistance regarding the situation.

Moreover, when I politely requested the employee's name for future reference, I was met with a disrespectful response. She replied with, "Figure it out and have a nice life." This type of dismissive and unhelpful attitude is not only discourteous but completely unprofessional. As a customer, I believe that such behavior is unacceptable and undermines the positive shopping experience that Dollar Tree should strive to provide.

To make matters worse, this was not an isolated incident. I experienced the exact same situation on the previous day as well. These repeated occurrences contribute to a pattern of poor customer service and reflect negatively on Dollar Tree as a whole. I can assure you that I am not the only customer affected by this issue, and it is undoubtedly costing your store potential sales and damaging your reputation.

I urge you to take this complaint seriously and address the issue promptly. I kindly request that appropriate disciplinary action be taken against the employee responsible for her unprofessional behavior. Additionally, I suggest conducting proper training programs for all employees at the Dollar Tree Fairview location to ensure they understand the importance of providing excellent customer service and representing the Dollar Tree brand positively.

As a loyal customer, I believe in the value and affordability that Dollar Tree offers, but incidents like these make me reconsider whether I should continue to patronize your store. I genuinely hope that you will take the necessary steps to rectify this situation and restore my faith in your establishment.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing from you soon regarding the actions taken to address this complaint.

Dollar Tree Clean up the store or find someone who can.

This store is almost unstoppable. Boxes fill the aisles while the shelves have empty spots. People running into the boxes, or having to step over them. Not only are you losing money because your inventory is closed up in boxes, but it’s a safety issue!

We shop at many of the stores, but this one is by far the worst.

The manager also has an attitude and berates customers in the store. I’ve heard it more than once.
