Zale Jewelers / Zales.com wedding ring

My husband purchased my engagement ring/wedding ring set from Zales in June 2006. The 2 rings were soldered together in January 2007. I took the rings (as a set) back to Zales in Feb 2010 to see about having them sized up as I had a child and could not wear my ring. They told me my extended warranty didn't cover it; however, there was another warranty that was available and I could purchase that and they would upsize/downsize my ring for free at any time. So I went for it. They sized up my ring and 2 weeks later I picked it up. Well, here it is January 2011, and I had lost a lot of weight so I took my ring back to Zales to have them size it back down. They said it wouldn't be any problem and it would be back in 2 weeks. They called and I went back in 2 weeks. When I got there the lady at the counter told me there was a $40 charge. I questioned as to why the charge. She informed me that if my rings were soldered together they charge $40 to put them back together. I informed her that I was never told of that additional charge. The guy who originally sold me the warranty was there so she called him over. He immediately deleted the $40 charge. I was fine with that, but was questioning what would happen in the future if I ever upsized or downsized it again?!?

So then, I tried on my ring to make sure it fit right. It felt funny so I got to looking at it. The bottom of the ring was paper thin. So thin I could have accidentally hit it on something and it would have bent. I then pointed it out to the manager. My ring was absolutely not even close to being this thin when I dropped it off, as I am very careful with my ring and know for a fact that the bottom of it was not worn at all; however, it may have had a few scratches. The manager told me he would send it back in and have them fix it. He specifically wrote on the receipt to the jeweler that the ring was too thin. He then wrote "Rush" on it and told me he'd have them rush it back. Here it is 10 days later and I haven't heard a word from them. I am very nervous about how my ring will look when I get it back. I am wondering how good of a jeweler they actually send it to and am thinking they probably have been "stealing" gold from other people too.

I highly urge people to shop some where other then Zales. My husband and I upgraded to an almost $5000.00 bridal set, after a couple of months my diamonds were falling out, I think I was missing 6 or 7 by the time they agreed to "fix" my ring. They sent me back a dull ring, and now, again, I have three diamonds missing from it! I work in the fashion industry, and do plan on getting the word out to all of my clients to stay away from Zales! They need to go under and I would love to help push em down!

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com paid $200 for white gold shank, instead got rhodium plating!

In 2003 I purchased a diamond engagement ring that was set in yellow gold. In 2005 I paid an additional $200 to have that same ring set in white gold (A white gold shank). From the moment I picked up the ring from the store I noticed it had a yellow spot on it. On several occasions I have gone back into the store as the ring has progressively turned back completely to the original yellow gold. Instead of replacing the yellow gold shank with a white gold one, they simply rhodium plated my original yellow gold ring! Rhodium plating only costs around $40! I have even contacted their corporate office. Their argument is "all white gold is yellow gold with a rhodium plating that needs to be re-plated every few years"! While I understand the process of white gold from yellow gold, I do not buy that I should have to have white gold re-plated every few years! Corporate also said I could pay more to have it set in a white gold shank that will not turn yellow, but it would cost more... Wasn't that what I paid for in the first place!?!

I am sorry to inform you, but there is no such thing as pure white gold. White gold is created by coating yellow gold with rhodium. Over time the yellow color will come through, but you can have it re-coated to bring the white gold color back. There is nothing you can do to avoid this, but you can ask to have it double coated which will lengthen the time before you have it re-coated. I would also suggest trying to avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach, ammonia, and chlorine as they can damage most jewelry. In addition, most big jewelry corporations such as Zales offer an insurance plan for an additional charge which will cover the re-rhodium of white gold jewelry. I hope this helps. 

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com botched ring repair

The solitaire diamond in my engagement ring was loose so I brought it into Mappin's Jewellers (owned by Zales) to have it fixed. I don't know why, but they altered the setting. I didn't even recognize the ring. It was completely different. They tried to fix it but couldn't. As you can see from the picture below there is still a notable difference. That's when the customer service guy, John Berry, told me to take it or leave it! Unbelievable, they damage my most important piece of jewellery and then tell me that it's "good enough." This is no longer the ring that I was married with. Eventually Mappins agreed to send my ring to the original maker (Birks) so that they could restore the ring to it's original shape. Even though John Berry told me the Mappins' repair job was "close enough, " Birks was unable to repair the ring and had to make a new one. That was more than 18 months ago and I still haven't got my ring back! What a completely useless company, and their attitude only makes things worse. I submitted a claim to their legal department and no one has responded. I am torn up inside. Not only did the ring cost more than 5K when it was bought from Birks 15 years ago, but it means everything to me! Do not buy from Mappins or Zales. Birks on the other hand have been wonderful!

My grandson bought a ring for his girl and they have no ring box to put it in.. He is embarresed to give it to her.. The ring was over $200.00 why cant he get a simple ring box... Vickie arp [protected]

Zales SCRA policy is very discriminatory as it only applies to enlisted Soldiers. The military is comprised of non-commissioned as well as commissioned officers. Their policies are not in compliance and they try to make it so that you won't be eligible for the 6% interest rate. The person(s) in charge of reviewing the documents are not knowledgeable on SCRA and have the audacity not to ask nor inquire with the ESGR or Congress. Those [censored]es don't even realize that former President Bush implemented this policy that happens to still be in effect!

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com bride

In June of this year, my (now) husband proposed with a beautiful ring purchased from Zales. The center diamond was certified and there was a warranty (on the diamonds only!) purchased also. The ring is 18K white gold with a 1/2 carat center diamond and small round accent diamonds. After just a few weeks, I noticed that when I turned my hand palm up, the "white" gold was yellowish. I never said anything, figuring I may have caused a chemical reaction cleaning at work due to exposure to glass/surface cleaner or bleach. However, my wedding ring has NEVER turned and is also 18K white gold. I wear both together at work and take them off to cook/shower/clean etc... So why is the engagement ring turned yellow? My guess is it was cheaply plated and now that plating has already worn off. Way overpriced jewelry and the salespersons are only looking for a sale so they can get paid.

***********this letter was sent by certified mail I have not yet hear from mr smith in regards to this situation*********** I have sent a complaint to the better business bureau of mobile, al and dallas, tx where the corporation resides. I will also send this letter to as many news and tv people as I possibly can due to the fact of how kelly bowman treated us after the earrings where returned she is very prejudice and she is psycho ###! Don't buy anything from this store or this woman!She is rip-off - artist!

I am writing you this letter because I have a complaint that I would like you to be aware of. On 8/15/2010 at 3:10 pm I went to the zales store in colonial bell air mall in mobile, al to payout my layaway with a balance of $68.90 for a pair of solitaire diamond (Sku # 011-[protected]). From 4:10 to 4:48pm I waited to pay for the earrings, almost a whole hour to be waited on to be & ldquo;approved” to pay out the layaway that was too long of a time to take a payment from a customer and pay my layaway out.

On 6/19/2010 I paid an installment of $50.00 which left a balance of $68.90 and was prepared to pay it off that day due to the fact that I was given a call a couple of days prior by phone by one of your sales associates stating that & ldquo;if I came in and paid off my layaway I would receive an additional percentage off of the earrings”. A couple of days later while in the store to receive the percentage off of the merchandise and pay the layaway out I was told by the sales clerk I could not have an additional percentage off of because & ldquo;i had already had a percentage taken off for the earrings and no other percentage will be applied and someone made the call by mistake!”

Mr. Smith, I received approximately 3 calls from your store at bellaire mall in mobile, al from sales associates during the duration of the layaway. The latest was one week ago on the 10% additional sales if I & ldquo;paid out the layaway. & rdquo; so I don’t understand why would I would be told in the store that the calls where a & ldquo;mistake?”

On 8/5/2010 I called the zale’s store to find out about any sales going on and if the august sale was still in effect. I spoke with a sales clerk and he pulled my layaway and gave me a price of the balance and he also advised me that zales would be having a 10% off sale through august 15, 2010. And if I paid out the layaway during the sale I would receive the additional 10%. He also told me that I was only given one percentage off of the regular price and he stated that the company policy on the layaway agreement that a customer could receive up to two discounts during the duration of the layaway. And he stated it would be no problem to make the adjustment when I come in. So sunday, 8/15/2010 at 3:10 pm to pay the balance of $68.90 and to receive my 2nd discount applied to my layaway which would have been 10% off.

The gentlemen that I spoke with on the phone pulled my layaway so that I could be waited on. It seemed to have been a problem with me paying the last installment of $68.90 and held me up for approximately 1 hour while he and the manager, kelly bollman, along with my layaway receipt in his hand & ldquo;discuss” my layaway in another part of the store. When the sales clerk came back to me, the he says: & ldquo;someone else paid your layaway out” I told him, & ldquo;no! Who would pay my layaway out? And are the earrings here?” and I then told him, & ldquo;if I paid them out I would have the earrings!” he then says, & rdquo; the store has the earrings. & rdquo; he then walked away from. However I was still waiting to pay the last installment of $68.90 of the layaway out.

The salesmen came back to me with a zale’s bag I then told him, & ldquo;may I see the earrings?” he proceeded to take the earrings out the zales box. I examined the earrings and it appeared to me that the earrings that I put on layaway to purchase at the store were not the earrings! I then asked the sales associate had he cleaned them. The sales associate says, & ldquo;yes, I did clean them. & rdquo; he then proceeded to tell me, & ldquo;they had paid the $68.90” and I said to him, & ldquo;who?” he then changed his statement and said, & ldquo;we paid the layaway off!” he then took the earrings and placed the earrings back in the zales bag and told me & ldquo;thank you” and sent me on my way!

That same night at home I noticed the receipt that the store gave me along with the protection plan was dated 7/24/2010. I never came into the store on 7/23/2010 or the whole month of july 2010. I was in the store on 8/15/2010. The last time I was in the zales store was 7/19/2010 at 12:29 pm. I have the receipt showing the balance that I owed of $68.90. I was in the store on 8/15/2010 but kelly bollman and the sales associate gives me a receipt that shows 7/24/2010. Why was that done?
I thought the protocol was for any purchase would have the correct date on the receipt?

The reason why I am going to return the earrings I know that kelly bowman backed dated the receipt to keep me from receiving the full 10% discount which I was told I could receive when I paid the earrings out. I know that the original price of the earrings were $1173.90. 10% of that would have been approximately $117.39 that is a $48.49 difference from the $68.90 that I originally owed for my last payment.

If the manager, kelly and the sales associate has to tell me those types of lies in my face as a customer, I will no longer be a customer of zales any longer! So even thought I am one person, I am going to tell everyone I know what type of treatment I received from your employees and your manager which is representing the zales corporation! And selling & ldquo;so called” fine jewelry to the public. I don’t trust anything the store manager or the sales associates says or do so therefore I am returning the earrings to get my money back I will take my money elsewhere preferably your local competitors that I have dealt with for years: goldsteins, david’s jewerlers, or ware’s. I assure you they would not try to do a & ldquo;bait and switch” or treat me like I want something for nothing and appreciate my money as a customer! And I am 100% positive that I will be treated better than kelly treated me in your store.

Bought a diamond ring from Zales...Was told by the sales person that if any thing happened to it that Zales would fix it...When I carried it in.. it was completely different than I was told...Two diamonds gone out of the ring later...And to top that off when I carried it in to the Zales store the manager would not even come talk to us...She told the sales person to tell us that Zales would not fix it...Will not ever purchase any thing from zales again will post to my 5000 fb friends not to purchase again either

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com damaged product

My experience with Zales had brought me nothing but stress, disappointment and so much dismay. It took me roughly five years to save for a ring upgrade and just ended up with so much disappointment. I'm the type that more often than not, does research before purchasing a product. Thinking that Zales is a reputable company, I skipped the research and went straight to purchase, which is probably one of the biggest mistakes that I've ever made in consumer history. The ring that I bought and fell in love with was a 1CT Bridal set ring that consisted of 1 engagement ring and 1 matching wedding band with a 1/3 CT center stone size Marquise cut diamond accented by 20 princess cut diamonds in a wax setting from Zales.com. After so much anticipation, my packaged arrived as scheduled BUT to my surprise, I received a wrong and damaged Ring! I got 1 ring with a princess cut centerstone in a prong setting with 2 missing diamonds on one side. I was so furious, took pictures of everything and drove right away to the closest retail store with the items in its original fed ex box including copies of my transaction receipts and a print out of the product specification with photo of the original ring that I bought. I showed it all to the store manager and sales person. They have processed the return and advised me that I should receive a refund in 2 days. What ticked me more was the store manager even had the audacity to ask me why I didn't go to their store to buy, as if blaming me for the faulty product I received. None of the Zales personnel apologized to me but instead the store mgr. tried to sell other jewelry to me in store. I already filed a formal complaint to better business bureau about my issue and will wait till I get a resolution. I don't understand why Zales can get away with this? After my horrible experience, I have started to read about horror stories of other consumers with Zales. I wish I have read the warnings earlier and saved myself from the misery. I hope someone will conduct an investigation considering the volume of people experiencing similar horror stories and most importantly, I hope I will be able to help and warn someone with my experience.

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com wrong ring received, bad customer service

I ordered a ring from Zale’s on 09/24/10 and received it about a week later. When i opened the package and found that the ring that was sent was not the one I ordered but instead was a 1/2 ct cluster ring and not a 1/2 ct 3 stone ring as I originally ordered. I called the 1-800 customer service number to inquire as to my options on how to get the ring that i originally ordered and was told that the ring that I originally ordered was not available anymore, I cannot return the ring to any store since it does not match what is on my receipt, and i cannot get a similar ring to replace it. After speaking to 3 supervisors, 1 Senior Supervisor and numerous customer service reps, i was told that everyone is entitled to make mistakes, they offered me a full refund which can take up to 30 days after they receive the ring which means that my refund could take until Nov 5th 2010, and finally they offered me free overnight shipping which is worth 21 bucks. So this basically means that today i am out of about 300 bucks and no 1 year anniversary present for my Girl Friend. Do not ever in your life purchase anything from a company that shows over and over again that they don’t care about the customer. This by far is the worst customer service experience I have ever had.

I just received my ring in the mail today. It isn't the 1/4 ct. ring I ordered, it is the 1/6 ct. ring that costs $150 less. They better get me the right ring before my 3 year anniversary in a few weeks.

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com poor customer service

I visited Zales at the Arbor Place Mall location to have a diamond replaced for the ring purchased for my fiancé. We were greeted by Hanna during the initial interaction. Hanna was very nice the first day; she provided information as to the turnaround time of 6-8 weeks to receive the ring back with the replacement stone. I purchased the ring in May of 2010, which means 6 months had not lapse before a stone was lost.

Hanna offered to trade the ring for an upgrade as long as I paid the difference. Since the upgrades available were a bit pricy for my pockets during that visit, we opted to have the stone replaced. She was very apologetic and assisted by making a few calls and gave me a new ETA of 4 weeks. 4 weeks sure is much better than 6-8 so I agreed and the Sept 20th was the scheduled date for pick up.

I called Zales and spoke to Hanna on the 20th. Hanna had no information for me during my initial phone call and asked if she would be able to call me back in 30 minutes. I agreed and trust that she would have based on my experience with her during the time we dropped the ring off. My fiancé called me 1 hour after my phone call to Hanna asking for the update as we are scheduled for engagement photos on 9-26. I called Zales back to speak to Hanna as a friendly reminder "also because my fiancé was putting pressure on me because she really wanted her ring back. Do you blame her?" Hanna seemed to be agitated by my call back, she placed me on hold and returned to the line with an update that the IDEC (International Diamond Exchange Center) had not started on the ring as of yet and she apologized.

I then asked Hanna, when she expect the ring to be returned. She provided an ETA of 9-24; I say to myself "oh boy, this is not going to be good when I provide the update to the misses. Ugggghhhh!" I asked Hanna why anyone had not called me to let me know that the ring will be delayed instead of me finding out the very day I was scheduled to retrieve the ring.

Hanna apologized and stated the IDEC normally correspond with the store via email and there were no updates as far as the ring being delayed. I asked Hanna if she could call me later in the week to provide an update. She agreed, my fiancé inquired on Thursday 9-23 about the status of her ring.

I called Hanna and she seem more annoyed than the last time. She informed me that she was very busy in the store and she would email and call the IDEC to get an update and call me back in 30 minutes. In my mind and I am saying to myself, "Oh how I remember the so called, I will call you back statement." 1 hour 20 minutes pass and my fiancé calls me to find out the update. I called Zales and spoke to Hanna again and she stated no word as of yet and asked if she could call me back with no timeframe.

2 hours go by, I receive another call from the misses wanting to know the status. I had none to report. I called Zales again and spoke to Linda who identified herself as the Store manager. I asked Linda for Hanna and she informed me that she was busy with customers and offered to have Hanna call me back. I say to myself why wouldn't the manager offer to assist? I informed Linda that Hanna’s lack of follow up is the exact reason for my call. I provided my name and automatically Linda had information for me. Yet again, no reply from the IDEC and they are still waiting.

I stressed to Linda that it is imperative that we have our ring on time for Friday for our appointment for the engagement photos. As you know vendors are not really flexible with their schedules. I informed Linda that the photographer who is taking the pictures is very busy and it will cost our deposit if we rescheduled. Linda informed me that they will make calls to have the ring overnighted the next day.

WHAT?!?! The next day? Overnighted? That is really cutting us very close! I requested something to be done if the ring did not arrive for Saturday the latest. Linda informed me that she did not have the authority to make a decision as what I was requesting and that was the District Manager's call.

I received a call from Hanna today making me aware the ring arrived. I visited Arbor Place mall to retrieve my merchandise. I saw Hanna and she acknowledged me and informed me once she is finished with her current customer she will assist. There was another woman working in the store and Hanna asked her to assist me by presenting the ring.

The ring was in a clear little plastic baggie and not looking so impressive. The lady handed me a receipt and asked me to sign. I was in the process in inspecting the ring when she asked a second time for me to sign for the ring. The ring was paid for in CASH so it is not like I did not own the merchandise. I asked the woman if the ring was cleaned because what I saw before me was a dull ring that was placed in Hanna’s custody in sparkling condition. The woman informed me that the ring should have been polished and asked if I would sign the receipt again. I asked the woman if she can clean the ring. The woman took the baggie and placed the ring in the cleaning solution. She then asked again for me to sign the receipt. OMG! If she stop asking me about signing the receipt and provide some type of customer service I will demand a refund!

When I had the ring sized at the Perimeter Mall Zales location, the sales person cleaned the ring and placed it on a black felt case where I was able to admire my purchase. This woman from Arbor Place Zales cared less and I felt as if she was treating me as if I was a second rate customer. I signed the receipt and asked for my other paper work that authenticated my maintenance visit and she walked away from me while I was in mid sentence. Like if I did not exist!

It was a TERRIBLE experience and I would NEVER visit that location again and I will post this very detail experience on EVERY site if I have to. This way Zales will hopefully re-train their staff on customer service!

I got 1 ring with a princess cut center stone in a prong setting with 2 missing diamonds on one side. I was so furious, took pictures of everything and drove right away to the closest retail store with the items in its original fed ex box including copies of my transaction receipts and a print out of the product specification with photo of the original ring that I bought. I showed it all to the store manager and sales person. They have processed the return and advised me that I should receive a refund in 2 days. What ticked me more was the store manager even had the audacity to ask me why I didn't go to their store to buy, as if blaming me for the faulty product I received. None of the Zales personnel apologized to me but instead the store mgr. tried to sell other jewelry to me in store. I already filed a formal complaint to better business bureau about my issue and will wait till I get a resolution. I don't understand why Zales can get away with this? After my horrible experience, I have started to read about horror stories of other consumers with Zales. I wish I have read the warnings earlier and saved myself from the misery. I hope someone will conduct an investigation considering the volume of people experiencing similar horror stories and most importantly, I hope I will be able to help and warn someone with my experience.

Anyway, the 2 days refund? more like 30 days! and if I don't get it in 30 days, the rep said to call them so turns out it's my responsibility to remind them! their reason? because of the volumes of packages they receive each day (hundred to thousands). So basically, I give their company props for being able to legitimize keeping people's money for 30 days, earning a month's interest on it while the unknowing customers pay for interest on their credit cards for a merchandise that's no longer in their possession. Simple math just imagine, the potential $ they could earn for 1000 people due for a refund. Maybe this would explain the free shipping! Price to pay for their 100 days return policy. Argh! hate that I got blinded with the glitz of that ring. I wish for this horror to end!

You don't have to convince me of my mistake, I already blatantly admitted from the beginning. Although I respect your constructive opinions, referring to your statement "I do not think your time or aggravation are such that you should have come here to complain." - any one has the right to express their own dissatisfaction, discomfort and annoyance if deemed unjust. It's the reason for complaint boards, this is another tool to get your message across to the entity or person you are complaining about and to people who might be able to relate. I personally can't measure any person's level of aggravation and I wouldn't judge because I do respect their rights. So In my situation, Out of $ + No Ring + Poor customer service = merits for my cause to complain.

This will be my last comment on the matter. I have said my piece. I appreciate your input and responses to my situation. You show good knowledge in Jewelry-related problems and seem to make responsible, wise choices in purchases (based on your answers), which makes your posts a good read.

@Stealth Pilot: Glad that I got one of my points across. Thank you for pointing out some more valid points for others to contemplate on but I just wanted to clarify that while your guess of a "mix-up" as an explanation to what might have happened to my order, may or may not be true, it is important for everyone to note that whether I have done any research or not, I should have received the correct item (as specified and advertised) that I purchased. When I bought the rings, I did not pay the seller less than what they asked and I paid them on time. I fulfilled my end as a buyer therefore, they should do the same. It was unnecessary to subject me with stress, unnecessary use of my time as well as the gas expense for their mistake. This is my main complaint.

At this day & age, with the popularity of online shopping, I think that any one, retailer or consumer, recognizes the associated risk in web purchases. Considering the economic turmoil, most businesses survive because of consumer trust & the related factors to sustain it. In short, it was my choice to buy the diamond online without seeing it. I had placed my trust to Zales that they will give me the item I paid for as they have attested, described and advertised. And secondly, of course, I am planning to get the ring appraised by a different jeweler to make sure that the specification is correct. Needless to say, any seller will be breaking federal regulations, consumer laws and civil rights for false advertising, deception and the like and anyone considering the value of their purchase should be smart enough to verify and confirm. It's like buying a diet soda (poor comparison to diamonds but don't want to use any brand names), I wouldn't be able to tell if the calories and ingredients are as what they say in the nutrition facts. I only rely on 3rd party independent certified testing experts or agencies who conducts the research and reports to say it is. And if I bought a diet soda, I expect to receive a unopened diet soda, not water or an opened juice box. Who wouldn't get disappointed if they didn't get what their hard earned money paid for? Just because Zales had poor reviews does not give them an excuse to not deliver the correct goods and it is also not a fair reason for me to be satisfied if they give me a different thing just because people commented that they are that way. My disappointment is obviously still prevalent.

Your point about Zales' online and retail store has some truth. I know this not only because of Zales but it is the same for any major retailer too. My order was shipped from TX, the retail store I went to is in CA. However, regardless of office locations or employees, online or retail store, Zales.com and Zales is one company/corporation. Why else would they say in their return policies that I can return the merchandise to their retail store? SO, online merchant mistake or not, they both hold the same responsibility to their patrons or any consumer. They adhere to the same company policies and standards, therefore, they should deliver an appropriate customer service for errors that any of their team makes. But just to clarify, I didn't take out my frustration at the store's sales clerks nor with the store manager. Although, I did express a dismayed tone while speaking, I cannot deprive myself of that. I was civil despite the horrible experience. I believe that some things just can't be resolved in aggression and most of the time it's really counterproductive, which is why they quickly acted on processing my return. My comment towards how I was treated by the store manager were my thoughts and annoyed feelings at the time. My issue just happened yesterday, I will post an update if they resolve ever resolve it.

Bottom line, I will be more wiser in making big purchases like this one. I waited five years to be reminded of a life lesson. So my advise, don't repeat other people's mistakes. Avoid them! If I may emphasize it again, a smart shopper does his/her research and know your rights.

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com lost policy book

I bought my diamond earrings that were only sopppose to be 400 I ended paying 7oo and I dont even know why. My earrings had a small black spot and now I recently misplaced the policy handbook and now they wont clean or check them for me when in fact im sure they have record to top it off I didnt know I paid for this policy they dont tell you. Please dont spend your money here. Bad customer service

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com will not refund money for a returned item

I pray that you will be able to assist me in getting back my money from Zales Jewelers! I have tried repeatedly to work this out unsuccessfully and not sure where to turn at this point.

I am a truck driver and therefore in different cities from day to day. This past September 2009 was my 16th wedding anniversary. On August 30, 2009, Istopped at a Zales store and purchased a ring for my wife for our anniversary. The total purchase price was $175.28 which I put on my Zales account. The account number is [protected]. The receipt for this purchase is attached and labeled as Purchase 1.

A couple of days later, in another city, I again stopped at a Zales store and found a more expensive ring that I liked better. This was on September 3, 2009. That receipt is attached labled as Purchase 2. I returned the ring that I purchased on 8/30 and put the more expensive ring on my account.

On Purchase 2 receipt it clearly shows a total purchase of $658.10. This is for the 2nd ring with the discounts, protection plan and tax. The receipt then shows a Total Return (which was the ring that he purchased on 8/30 and returned) of $175.28. This brought my Net amount due to $482.82.

My Zales statement shows a Balance of $658.10. This account had a zero balance previous to these two transactions. That balance of 658.10 is the Total Purchase prices on Receipt 2 BEFORE the return of $175.28. The statement then goes on to show both purchases. You will notice for the first purchase that it shows Previous Balance of $175.28, then Payments & Credits of -$175.28 and ends with Plan Balance of $175.28.

Zales uses Citicorp for their accounts. They have charged me for both rings and will not refund me for the return. I can't speak to anyone at Zales but instead they refer me to Citicorp. Citicorp receives all of the information that I have provided to you in the attachment and continues to tell me that they did credit me for the $175.28. I actually get very rude customer service from them because they are acting like I have stolen a ring from them. They keep sending me the copy of the receipt from the first purchase showing the initial ring purchase as if to say that I bought the ring, why am I now asking for the money back. Then they tell me that they did credit the money.

I have already paid off this statement in full in the amount of $658.10. Zales owes me a refund of $175.28 and I don't want it in a store credit because I will never purchase from them again because of this incident.

The ring was sent back with a grayish, smaller diamond that didn't match the other diamonds in the set. When my wife pointed this out to the sales lady (Betty at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville, GA), the lady snatched the paperwork that my wife had from her hand, displeased that she was going to have to send the ring back off for a seond repair. The reason why the ring came back with an incorrect stone, was that this sales lady had sent the ring in with the information from the receipt for the first ring that I purchased and returned.

My wife now has her ring and it looks good, but the fight that we have been through and are still going through has deminished the sentimental value that the anniversary ring should have had.

I think my comment didnt come thru earlier. i'm upset. Dion, when you returned the 1st ring, was there a seperate salescheck# for the return? if not, then you are not due any credit. a lot of times the sales clerk is lazy and will do 2 transactions into one. they should have returned the first ring by itself, and then rung the 2nd ring by itself. you had mentioned that they only charged you the "NET" difference of 482.82. the total ring is 658.10. unless you paid 175.28, then you do owe the credit card company 175.28. they just added the first ring and then difference between the two ring 482.82 to get total of $685.10. make sense? at the end you should have paid out of cash to the credit card company 658.10. and not 482.82 b/c the ring is worth 658.10 not 482.82. make sense?

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com bait and switch scam

Purchased a tennis bracelet that was in a display, clearly priced $99. after it was paid for, was told that was not the $99. bracelet it's a $2k, bracelet and we can't sell it to you, the money was already taken from my account, I then owned the bracelet, who puts a $2k bracelet in a $99 display? I received no comment from the customer service department of Zales. Incompetent and inept sales staff. I wrote a detailed letter to the customer service department and several weeks have gone by with no response, with the way our economy is now, this business can afford to lose Customers this way?

Zales has a 100 day return policy. Why don't you just return the $99 tennis bracelet. I think your angle is to get the 2k bracelet for $99. There can sometimes be a slim difference, visually, between a $99 bracelet and a $1999.
I think there is more to your story than you are sharing.

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com engagement ring

My husband bought engagement ring from zales. He requested it to have in yellow gold as they didn't have it at that time only white one. The store manager promised it would be done in a week. It was done. Six month later we started to look up for band, friend of ours offered help saying he knows a guy who can do it for us. When he so my engagement ring he was able to tell right away that it is a sprayed yellow gold on top of white one and they didn't even mentioned to us. We went to zales, they offered to exchange it, refused to give money back and info that that guy who sold us the ring no longer with them. I do not want anything from this store and would never buy it again.

We are experiencing the same situation as the two of you. I have a Celebration Engagement ring, 18K band with a 1.25 CT. Princess cut diamond solitaire. Zales states that the ring is "white gold." I believe the ring is 18K yellow gold, and when times changed and white gold became more and more popular, they had it rhodium dipped so the ring would sell. In a year, my ring had to be dipped 4-5 times to maintain the white gold look. And I KNOW THERE IS "NO" SUCH THING AS WHITE GOLD, but I do have other white gold rings, that I wear "ALL" the time that have NEVER turned even the slightest bit yellow, EVER! My husband spent $6500 on my engagement ring from Zales, and also purchased 2 diamond bands, at $900 each, and we bought his wedding ring there for $450. We were honest, loyal customers that Zales betrayed, by selling us an engagement ring, knowing the ring posessed qualities that didn't match my wedding rings, color wise. We are very embarrassed when friends & family want to look at my rings. We have returned to Zales many many times, only to hear, "it's the chemistry of my skin changing the rings, " but NONE of my other rings have changed, or they say, "it must be the chemicals I use when doing housework, " ha ha, but, low & behold I don't do housework, or I've heard, "it's from my rings rubbing together, " although I've only been married since August 2011! It's just another BS line, to get me to GO AWAY, I'm sure! I'm NOT stopping until they do something about it for me, I AM NOT SETTLING AFTER SPENDING ALL THAT MONEY WITH THEM! Thanks for listening while I vent about the WORST JEWELRY STORE AROUND...ZALES...THUMBS DOWN ALL THE WAY! DO-----NOT-----GO-----TO-----ZALES-----EVER-----TRUST ME, PLEASE!

I have had a similar experience with them, after 8 years of being together my now husband decided that we needed to get our wedding set. total that day we spent over 1500 on both of our ring. I got a white gold ring that was very pretty which I can only wear for about 2 months before the whole ring is yellow. Every 2 months I now have too take it in and have it "dipped" and be with out it for a month each time I take it in to do this. I have talked with them about the ring turning yellow only to get a response of either there is no such thing as "white gold" or its the Chemicals in my skin. every one of my friends have a piece of jewelry that is white gold that they wear 24/7 to never have it change colors on them. Bottom line, your not alone and I will never do business with Zales again unless its too get my ring "dipped" and thats only until we can afford to get a whole new set someplace better

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com stolen wedding ring

Took my ring to Zales to be re-sized & when I returned in 3 weeks to pick it up I was informed that my wedding ring was stolen off the delivery truck & not to worry b/c they'd "already reordered a new stone" & blah blah blah "standard procedure"

My husband & I are furious b/c of their easy going could care less attitude regarding sentimental value of the ring in addition to the fact that they called to order a replacement w/o so much as a phone call to me letting me know what happened. I found out when I arrived at the store a day after the promise date to be told. The manager was more concerned with the stores loss and minimized my $3500 ring as it was only one of 20 pieces stolen.

We have since went above his head to the regional manager & currently have been given the option to simply take the replacement ring with no acknowledgement of wrong doing, or take cash close to $1000 less than what we paid for the ring. I am mortified. I don't know what to do. My wedding ring is gone & either I take a look-alike or cash to buy a cheaper ring elsewhere, or of course contact a lawyer...To be continued. DO NO BUY ZALES.

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com they ruin credit scores

Make sure to read this before you decide to purchase any item requiring financing at zales or zales. com

Just to let you know that before I decided to write this I tried to resolve my unfortunate issue with zales and citi (Zales’s financing bank) directly. It is apparent to me now that neither zales nor citi are willing to help abiding by some of the worst customer service rules and regulations you’ll ever come across.

Here is what happened:
In 2007 I purchased a diamond wedding band for myself (Item #: [protected]) which I decided to finance through zales financing company (Citi group). They asked for 10% deposit and I was on my way with a brand new diamond wedding band that I thought would last me a lifetime. Not so fast! When I came home my wife noticed a small damage in the setting where diamonds are set in the ring. No problem I thought, zales should help me with this by exchange this ring for another. I went to 3 other zales locations and I noticed that every single one of these rings had the same problem with the setting and they were all damaged just the same. I decided to return my purchase back to zales diamond jewelry store for a refund as I had the ring for less than two weeks in my possession. I did not go back to the original store I purchased the ring from, because I live in los angeles and I purchased my ring in san diego, but that shouldn’t have matter I thought. So within about 2 weeks of my original purchase I returned the ring and was refunded back my 10% down payment at the los angeles zales diamond jewelry store location where I returned the ring and was told by the zales store manager that I owe nothing to zales and I can comeback anytime if I decide to buy something else (Something I am not planning to do ever again and would not recommend to any of you reading this post).

The problem:
I received a statement from zales about 2 months later stating that I owed them around $90.00 in interest for the time the ring was in my possession which was completely ridiculous since I returned the ring within 30 days of my purchase and should not owe zales anything. So I called zales’ customer service and after speaking with a few imbeciles who had no idea how to address the issue I was able to find an actual person who understood exactly what happened and who told me on the phone that the problem is now fixed and I should not worry about anything from here on out. Obviously if that was the case, this particular post would never have taken place.

It’s 2009 and the problem is getting worse:
I tried to get a loan recently and I was informed by credit bureau that zales reported that I was over my limit on my loan and that I was past due 30 days on my payment. What?!?! & ldquo;are they serious” I yelled?! How is that possible that I owed money on something that I did not own? How is that possible that after being told by zales diamond jewelry store manager that I owed nothing at the time of returning my wedding band and after being told by a customer service rep the same thing that I owed nothing to zales I am to find out that zales reported to credit bureau that I owed them money and was late on a loan? This is preposterous! This is ridiculous! This is madness! Zales and citi are out of their minds to report such inaccurate information to the credit bureaus. Guess what, they blamed me for this mess.

Resolution or lack thereof:
I decided to use social media channels to address this issue. I twittered about my unfortunate problem and got connected with zales’s twitter rep. This person directed me to the credit bureau that should have helped me with my problem I thought. So I spoke with citi and they told me that they’ll review my problem and will let me know of their findings. When I spoke with the rep, I specifically told him, that before any final decision is made i’d like to make sure that I am contacted of the findings and allowed to provide additional information to help address and fix this issue should the finding be inaccurate or insufficient. Well nothing of such sort happened to no surprise. I received a letter recently stating that the report could not be corrected due to & ldquo;no errors on the banks part”. Really?!?! No error on bank’s part?!?! Whose error was it then?!?! As I was told by the supervisor of the customer service supervisor (That’s 3 levels up from regular customer service rep. ) the error was mine. They informed me that I should have made a payment on the bill I received even thought I no longer had the ring in my possession and then wait until it gets posted and then request a credit back because I returned the ring and if the credit wasn’t issued then I would have needed to call back and ask for it again. Is this a normal way of doing business? Is this how returns are handled as a normal practice? Is it customer’s responsibility to make sure that zales and citi work out their issues with billing? Now that I talked with citi again I am being told that I have to go back to the store where I returned my ring at and ask them for a record of when my ring was actually returned. Really?!?! I don’t remember which store I went to, but zales does not have that information either. Nor do they want to research themselves when the ring was actually returned, but they definitely know that it wasn’t a bank’s error.

In closing:
I will make sure that the people I work with, friends with or talk to are all aware of the horrific business practices of zales and citi who ruin people’s credit scores and credit bureau information should they decide to return their purchases back to zales diamond jewelry store. However to avoid similar problem that I ran into, I could simply advise them (And all of you) not to do business with zales diamond jewelry or zales. com so that they would not be disappointed by the conveyer manufacturing of their diamond jewelry that has more quite a lot of defects. If that wedding band was actually manufactured from the beginning with no defects all this frustration could have actually been avoided. Do not do buisness with zales. com or zales dimaond jewerly as they will ruin your credit should you decide to return any of the items you buy!

The same thing happened to me! I had my bank issue them the full amount of what i owed on a ring. I received a bill the next month stating i owe 15 dollars in interest. I called CITI (credit bureau on zales behalf )and spoke to a rep by the name of Kathy. She pulled up records and showed where i paid and cleared my balance. However, at the end of the year i applied for a home loan. When speaking with my mortgage broker i asked for my credit report and she advised of my great credit but advised me of the negative which was ZALES-CITI. This is when i became utterly confused. It had been almost a year and i was not notified, NOTHING! They ended up turning this in for a 15 DOLLAR interest fee that was cleared when i called! And supposedly was already done?

Thus, i called back customer service and spoke to a guy by the name of Daniel. Daniel, advised me that there was nothing in his power he could do. I would have to contact Experian or other credit bureau to file a dispute. This took another 48 days to hear back that my acocunt was verified and shows a '0' balance. This im fully aware because the lady cleared kathy cleared it! I then call back. Got another lady (did not catch her name) who did not understand the situation either and was even harder to explain because none of which even makes since to me! She advised me that i shouldnt have went to the credit bureau and should have went to through their credit company. I did not see this as feesible so i asked to speak to a supervisor whom told me i should have been charged the interest fee and was referring that i neglected to pay. Do they not leave notes on the accounts? So now im having to send this letter off almost 2 years later to get this cleared up over a 15 dollar interest fee!

I have recently applied for a business loan and they have asked about this. I have been trying to get this taken off before i apply for my second business loan with no luck this farany help on how anyone got this straightened out would be great! The customer service is not on the same page. I have talked to over 12 of them on my two journey with this 'dubachery'. I get different answers form all of them. I would have paid them 800 dollars to obtain a great credit score. 15 dollars with not even an attempt to inform or even the will to want to help! Caredit is everything!

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com jewelery services

After dealing with this company for many years (since Parent's engagement), in order to size a ring it's taking now 2 to 3 weeks. Where in the world is the customer service! If anyone needs a fast service pretty much, it may end up having their purchase after 3 weeks and in the worst case 4. I can not understand where are the jewelers?. What happen with the customer service...why others stores in the same mall give a faster service and these times where you need to think twice before buying ...Zales defenetely need to act if they want our bussiness.

absolutely! I worked for Zales for 14 years, in the store as a bench jeweler, handling all their repairs and custom work. Most of my repairs had a 3-5 day turnaround! That was back when they still used local jewelers to do their repair work. they have since fired most, if not all local jewelers, and they send their repairs off to a consolidated repair facility full of half trained jewelers. Don't trust zales or any other big chain jewelry store to do your repair work. find a good trustworthy local jeweler! Sorry for your horrible experience.

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com terrible craftmanship

So this is my story... October 22nd, 2009 my then boyfriend proposed to me, making me the happiest girl ever. The ring was stunning! A beautiful round main stone, with three rows of 8 pavè diamonds on either side of the main stone, as well as tiny diamonds surrounding that. Not knowing my size, he purchased the ring from the store and did not special order it (nor was that recommened by the salesman). He had a larger higher quality diamond put in the ring. The main diamond is now uncentered, the day after I recieved it a pavè set diamond fell out and needless to say I was not impressed. I did not make a huge deal out of it however because I still needed to send it out to be sized. The ring's standard size was a 7 and I am a 5.5. I brought my ring to the store on November 7th, 2009 for the sizing and the diamond replacement and got it back November 18th, 2009. That night I wore it for maybe and hour before I took it off to go to bed. The next morning driving to work I realized that I was missing ANOTHER diamond this was around 8am. Then by 9am I realized I was missing yet ANOTHER diamond! By now I am furious and call Zales. The manager "Rick" told me to bring my ring in Saturday the 21st and the jeweler will fix it while I wait. So I bring the ring in and wait 2.5 hours to get my ring back, leave the mall and get 5 minutes down the road and 2, yes 2 more diamonds fall out. I head back to the store and the jeweler says he has no more diamonds to put in it and I have to leave it there. So I do and in the mean time I special ordered the same ring in my size, since the re-sizing of the ring obviously compromised the settings. So I make sure to tell him that I want the damaged ring back before Thanksgiving, so I can show it off to all my family. I picked it up November 24th only to find that the jeweler could not get any of the diamonds to stay in it. So now its December 1st...I have an engagement ring with 8 missing diamonds, I am furious and I am patiently waiting for my new ring. If ordering a new ring does NOT solve my problem, I will take it to another level. I will NEVER buy anything from Zales again in my life. The salesman and the jeweler should have both realized that the integrity of the ring would be compromised if sized and a new ring should have been ordered therefore avoiding this mess. This ring needs to be a special order ONLY. It is insane to me that this would happen...my engagement has turned into a stressful hassle, not what any bride to be wants. I hope this helps in your decision.

So it's me again, Special Ordered ring, still the SAME problem. Since receiving my custom ordered ring in January 2010, I've lost 4 diamonds. I am DONE with Zales, and their horrible craftsmanship. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Zale Jewelers / Zales.com watch repair

It's amazing how in thi economy, companies are willing on losing a clientel. My $1000 watch fell onto the ground and got scuffed up. I went to Zales where I purchased the watch to try and Repair.
The reason I went back there was mainly bc my jewler, I have purchased watches & jewelery from her for the last 7 yrs and I have followed her where she has transferred. Anyhow,
They informed that it would cost alot of money to Repair it. I love the watch and just wanted it looking brand new again. I agreed to send out my watch and they would estimate how much it would cost.
I recieved a phone call back 3 weeks later stating that it would cost me $280. I agreed and asked for my watch to be fixed. This watch was dropped off on 8/4/09... it is 10/13/09 and I still do not have my watch. It came back to the store 3 weeks ago still scuffed up and they requested that I still pay for it. They told me that it would have cost much more to fix the "face" of the watch, the most important part, they said it would have cost more money so they did not fix it. Never did I recieve a phonecall stating anything about this. Till this day the store manager keeps telling me, "Sorry that you feel this way, but it's either you pay for the watch repair, even though you are not satisfied, or, we keep the watch.. " I have 3 accounts there and they could care less that I cancel all 3. What happened to satisfying the customer. I called custoemr service 3 times and they told me she never even made this a priority to try and speak to anyone higher up and help out her consumer. She is a manager, at ZAles, she has no authority of a Corporation. And yet, I still do not have my watch. I am completely dissatisfied and I will make sure that I never purchase from them again. Thanks Stacey to losing 3 customers. There is no reason NOT to do the right thing. What comes around goes around.
