Big Lots unethical behavior / carrie the rude manager

Went to the cashier to pay all the items that I got. But one of them has no price tag. It was the last one and it was from their Christmas items so I was expecting it would be on sale. The manager named Carrie happened to be beside Ana w/c is the cashier who helped me w/ my stuff. Ana saw the item with no price tag and so she asked Carrie if she know what the price is. And she said that its a Christmas item but its back on a regular price then she told Ana to charge me $10 for a Christmas item which supposed to be on sale and then she told Ana to asked me if I still want the item and I said yes. So Carrie looked at some papers where the items in the store is listed but no luck. Ana is so nice to looked around the store to see if there is anything that is similar to that item and Ana is so patient to even looked it up in their system. Then Ana looked around again in the store and still no luck. But she came back with a new item to probably check the bar code so that maybe it would be a lot easier for her to find the item in their system. Then I heard Carrie told Ana "charge her $12 for it" then I was like, what?! Saw that the line is getting long, so I asked Ana how much is the item that she came back with? She said that it's $8. I got upset because it has the same size as the item that I wanted and Carrie wants to charge me $12 for a Christmas item that is suppose to be on sale? I just decide to get the item that Ana brought instead. And when Carrie heard that I will get the other item, she just walked away with a smirk on her face.

My complaints:

1. Why is she still employed in your company? She can't do her job right. She doesn't even have the patience to deal with that kind of situation. She should be ashamed of her self. If that is the kind of person you guys hire, you will not only lose customers.. You will lose a lot of your employees too. Please be wise.

2. How could she work with that kind of attitude in a retail environment? I understand that we all have problems. But please, do not bring it to work. If you don't feel like working or cannot handle the stress, take a break or might as well quit.

3. She can't treat anybody like that. Just because she's miserable, it doesn't mean people has to be too. Don't spread it. Please be professional.

4. $4 might not be too much for her, but it has a huge impact to other people. So, don't be abusive.

Big Lots faulty recliner

Conroe Cuddle Up Recliner SKU# [protected]

We purchase the recliner on 09/18/16 for $446.89. The switch to make the recliner open has always been stiff and we thought that this was normal until this week 01/22/17 when the switch broke. The recliner now does not recline. On Monday, 01/23/17, I called the Van Nuys store on 7241 Sepulveda more than 4 times, each time staying on hold for more than 15 minutes, and the last time more than 30 minutes. I was told that the furniture person was not there that I should call back. Finally, I was able to speak to the furniture person "Ronald" who basically told me that he could not help, that I needed to call back tomorrow when "Paul" the furniture manager was in office and he could help. Therefore, I called this morning to be told that "Paul" would not be in again today. My husband left work to go into the store as I became very frustrated staying on hold with no response. The lady told him that the only option we had was to bring in the chair ourselves and they would issue a $200 store credit. We explained that we wanted a replacement, as my husband tested the exact recliner model in the store, and the switch was not stiff and worked perfectly. She said that either we keep the broken recliner or take the store credit.

Neither of these options are fair. If the switch was faulty and they have the exact recliner in stick, which they do, I think it is a fair request to replace it for the new one.

I added a copy of my receipt for the chair to this complaint, a

Big Lots chocolate big one recliner "big daddy is how big lots refer to it.

SKU#[protected], the springs that recliners back and forward snapped. We went to big lot and they could not help us they claim they don't carry this chair anymore, could not give us any information. In the meantime the recliner does not stay down, you can bring it down when you get off but the feet rest goes right back up. All we need is a spring and directions as to how to put it on.

Thank you,

Big lots gave me a spring off a frame they kept for parts. I could not match the place their springs went as my chair is older. Your pictures matched and I thank you for posting.

Thanks for taking the time to post your comment Sandra, the pictures were so helpful and my husband connected the spring in no time. Looked for diagram or videos on the internet...no luck. After a lot of searching I found your pictures and fixed my recliner. We had the spring made locally and paid less than half your price for the spring.

I have the same exact chair and I love it, last week my spring broke, I ordered one from Amazon 4-3/4" long with one inch hook on each end 3/8" in diameter. It was very easy to put on and is working perfectly. It is rather pricy for a spring $20, but cheaper than buying a new chair. I bought mine last year in February at Big Lots. I am a 73 year old female and if I can put it on, you can. See my photos below. I went to Big Lots last year and took photo of where spring goes, as spring slipped off last year. Good Luck

Big Lots employment store 4602 big lots

This place is one of the worst places to work. Store associates are only hired on part time only. They say flexiable schedule---thats a load of crap. You are expected to have an open ended schedule. If you need to modify your sched for any reason you automaticly don't get any hours. Only those that have fully open schedule get some hours. They never schedule enough people to work thyough out the day---so there is no customer service. The regional manager is an a**hole to all the staff members. I worked at big lots 4602. So glad I don't work for them anymore.

Big Lots staff

I work at the Big Lots here in Colorado and I have never seen such poor management, and not just the management but the company overall is a sham. They offer no benefits, little to nothing pay raises after a year, and don't change a thing when they receive a complaint. They make the women go in at 4am to unload trucks and will still have their nerve to be angry with them when they don't have it unloaded on time. If you look around the store, the men are busy yapping to one another or hiding in the office or break room. One of the managers was addressed about him taking too long of breaks and being extremely rude when workers ask to use the restroom and he didn't get a write up and continued to do it. Also, all the people that work here act like it's junior high all over again and they are constantly gossiping about everyone that works there. And lastly, the boss was having an affair with one of the employees and still was able to keep his position. DO NOT WORK HERE.

Big Lots other complaints

I'm not an employee. I've never been an employee. I agree with the posters who say "this is their policy, they say it up front, deal with it."

I don't buy at Big Lots on the items I will need more than 30 days to assess. I keep my receipts, and I'm careful to check out their products in time.

They set rules to keep their prices down. It prevents thieves from picking items off the shelf to return for store credit. They have many temporary or occasional items that can't be added back to stock.

So be aware. Be mature. See the rules. And buy accordingly. If you want more time, and no receipt, shop elsewhere. If you want the extra savings, don't gripe about the policy that makes it possible.

I came to google search, just to verify the policy because I want to return something, and didn't want to go past the return time. You can do the same!

I'm a software developer with a BS from a good university, and a relevant job. I have never worked at BLs. I don't personally know anyone who does. (I have a neighbor who worked for CVS but that doesn't count.) So just so you know, it doesn't take being an employee to have the opinion I have.

Big Lots rude manager

I received an item from big lots. In Murphy nc but it did not work. I went to return the item but didn't have a receipt because it was a gift. I was told by the cashier that I couldn't return it without a receipt. I asked to speak to the store manager. They paged Angie over head. She proceeded to tell me no receipt no return and if I didn't like it not to shop there they didn't need my business anyway. Well don't worry they will not receive my business any longer. I will not shop at a business th a doesn't need my money and has such awful store managers.

Big Lots furniture

Their Simmons Manhattan recliner and sofa peel and crack ridiculously quickly. I have owned both items for two and a half years and have rarely used them and now they are beginning to crack! They crack on the upper cushion where one's head or neck would rest. No wonder why they won't sell an extended warranty on the furniture. If the furniture was so fragile, I am surprised that there is no label or manual describing proper care and maintenance to prevent this quick deterioration.

Big Lots don't buy from them, ‘coz you will get nothing from them

I placed the order on the website www.biglots.com. I choose some stuff for the Christmas, and it was mentioned that the items were available. So I placed the order and paid for it, but after several days I got the email that my items were sold out and they offered other things, but I wanted to get my money back. The seller hasn’t provided any response. These people are scammers and liars, who take money and provide nothing. Please post your comments about this company.

Big Lots complaint of poorly made furniture

I purchased a bed, dresser, mattress, box spring, sofa and recliner. I had to rent a truck and pay people to help me take this furniture home and set it up. When we open the box that contained the sofa the back was not properly nailed on. Did not want to go through the trouble of returning it so we hammered it down, it was going up against a wall. Now we get to putting the bed together and one of the bed rails had two large pieces missing. Had to put bed together as I was not sleeping on the floor. Had given away old furniture. Go back to store and the provided new rails. Which have not been put on as I am 65 years old and unable to replace them and still trying to find someone whom can help me.. Used the recliner for a couple of weeks. On 05/07/14 I go to lean back on the recliner and hear a snapping sound and I fall back and of course hurt my back. The back of the recliner broke. I have had it and called the store and filed a complaint with corp office. They replied with a telephone number that no one answered. Left voice mail but no one has called back. Store manager called and they are now in rush to pick up the damage furniture, so picking it up on Sunday. Especially the recliner. They sell furniture not is not good quality and is made so poorly that it is a hazard and dangerous. Now having issues getting my money back. Told them to take their sofa and recliner at my age I cannot take a chance that the furniture I am sitting on will just give away and break with me sitting on it. I weight 140 lbs so I did not break it only after using it for a couple of weeks. I really want my money back and if they keep giving me a hard time I have pictures and will obtain a lawyer so sue them. DO NOT BUY FURNITURE FROM BIG LOTS THEY SELL C***

Big Lots release mechanism

The Release Mechanism had broken within a year of purchase. I can not locate a replacement. Nobody seems to know where I can find this mechanism. The recliner can not recline without it.. A subsitute from another recliner can work. But as I mentioned, I do not have a clue where to find one. I would fix it, if I could get the Parts. Please advise!

I purchased the same chair and yes the handle broke on mine as well. I found my paper work and was able to get up with the company and order the part I needed for $5.00. The chair is made by American Furniture, 604 Pontotoc Country Industrial Park Road, Ecru, Ms 38841. For some reason I didn't save their Phone number, They were very friendly and helpful. You have to send them a check and they will send you the part. Took only a few minuets to put in.

Big Lots rue manager

My daughter and I went to the store looking for a Tablet that I had seen on advertised on my computer. First we could not find anyone to help us, when we did find the Tablet it had another price? I had received the ad on line with the date of it's sale date, yet when I asked for the tablet I was told they had none.. I asked for the manager and she didn't even look just told me rudely "We Have None and the sale starts next Saturday anyway!" I went to their store in Hicksville and guess what I found it! On sale and with all the help I wanted! SO WHY THE DIFFRENCE OF THE TWO STORES?
Is it because of the different locations of the two stores?
SHAME ON THEM!

Don't bother with the local bozos. They're obviously not interested in helping you (and probably already spent the money on candy and movies). Go right to corporate ( http://www.biglots.com/help/contact-us ) and be polite, check your spelling, and keep in mind that the person on the other end of the corporate web site just wants to resolve the situation peacefully. Make sure you include your receipt number and dining set part number (model number?) so they can do their background checking. If all else fails, it's time to contact your local Better Business Bureau ... and they'll need the same kind attitude and information ... my grandma used to say something about catching more flies with honey than with vinegar. Frankly I was always more worried about attracting bears with that honey but ... :-)

Big Lots never have the items they email me

Every week I get emails describing their great products and prices, so once again I go to the store as I wanted to get a pink comforter and shams. They were suppose to be in on Monday, I went on Tuesday Morning I looked everywhere and then I asked one of the employees. He said let me check with the manager. He came back and said we are getting a new truck load tomorrow morning please call back and our staff will be happy to check for you. I am disabled and it is a lot of work for me to go to the store plus waste gas. So today I called at 1:00 pm giving them time to put their new things away. So this lady answers the phone and I tell her that I was told to call today. She says well I can't look now and we have not taken the stuff off the truck. I said well he said to call in the morning and someone would check. She then gets angry and says well ok then you will be on hold for a long long time. I hung up. I am done with them sending me advertisements and never having what they say and their rude behavior. It is not a very safe place to go as their are always the homeless out there asking for money. I am done with that store and their incredibly rude staff (except for the nice man who tried to help me). I don't care what the price is, it is not worth my time and energy to go there!

I went to the Big Lots Store 1224 at 6900 San Pedro in San Antonio, Tx. I went to look for a dining set that I saw in the paper. I saw it, liked it and decided to buy it. The salesman was not customer friendly! I bought the item not because of him, but because I wanted it! When I went to pay I wrote a check for the amount due. He ran it and loudly said it was declined! I was totally embarrassed! He told me to call my bank to see what the problem was. I called and they said I had plenty of money to cover my check.they told me to tell him to run it again. He was getting somewhat upset because he ran it and it was declined again! My bank could not understand. I was becoming more embarrassed, because, he was rather loud in saying it was declined again! I finally gave him my debit card and that went thru! I don' t know if I will shop there again!

Big Lots manager (tina siltzer)

The employees have filed a number of complaints with the tip hot line and HR about the manager Tina Siltzer including sexual harassment on two male employees plus virbal swearing at the employees calling them ### even when the store is open. She has even threatened to fire the entire stock team because she says they move to slow for her and they can`t do their job right. All the employees at this store are working under a hostile enviroment everyday they work with her. She tells us that we are useless and not worth the time to talk to. She has no respect for anyone there. If you have an misunderstanding with her she will cut your hours. Thats her way of getting even with you. She has even yelled at customers and employees while the store is open. We use to take pride in our store 4426 and our job but, since she has been there she makes us feel like we are the ### under her feet, everyday.

Big Lots treats employees like dirt

This company does not care about its employees. It is no secret that they are trying to get rid of all those who have been working there for five years or longer. I fall into that category. For the past three years, I have been subjected to verbal abuse and threats of being written up, demoted or terminated. Until 2010, my managers were good. The current one has a foul mouth and takes obvious pleasure in belittling associates in front of their peers and customers. Immature and of questionable sanity, this manager has accused me of lying and slacking off. I am ANYTHING but a slacker; always busy and finding things to do and doing them. Ours is a rather large store. Often, we are a skeleton crew: one cashier, a manager on duty, one recovery. Still, we are expected to have all freight merchandised, store recovered perfectly, match or exceed expected daily sales total. The store is in a grungy old building that smells of mildew and urine (rodents? feral cats?) The floor is littered with merchandise that we are constantly picking up. There is no communication from management to associates. Yet, we can be written up for not doing something we were not told about. This is extremely unfair! Associates are lied to by management and promised things that are never delivered. I am appalled that, after years of loyalty to this company, I am being treated like an obsolete object rather than a human being. Management team show no respect for associates and, when asked for help, make it known to all present how annoying this is. With no support, no guidance, no communication, how can customer service be anything other than shoddy? If you are looking for a job, stay away from Big Lots. Going to work there is the biggest mistake one could make nowadays.

Big Lots Customer Reviews Overview

Big Lots is a retail company that offers a variety of merchandise, including furniture, seasonal items, electronics, toys, home décor, and groceries. The company operates both physical stores and an online shopping platform, providing customers with options for in-store pickup or home delivery. Big Lots is known for its closeout and overstock deals, where shoppers can find discounted prices on a range of products. The company aims to provide value to customers seeking a diverse selection of goods for their homes and everyday life.

Big Lots In-depth Review

In Summary: Big Lots is a retail giant offering a diverse range of products at competitive prices. With a user-friendly website and a loyalty program that rewards frequent shoppers, it stands out as a convenient shopping destination. While the in-store experience and product quality receive mixed reviews, the company's commitment to community involvement and sustainability adds to its appeal. Read on for a detailed review of Big Lots.

Company Overview: Big Lots has a rich history as a closeout retail chain, offering a wide variety of merchandise from furniture to groceries. The business model focuses on providing value to customers through a broad assortment of products at discounted prices.

Product Range and Selection: The variety of products at Big Lots is impressive, ranging from household essentials to outdoor furniture. Brand names are often available, and the store is known for its seasonal and limited-time offerings, which add an element of surprise to each visit.

Pricing and Value for Money: Prices at Big Lots are generally lower when compared to traditional department stores. The frequency of sales and discounts, coupled with the Big Lots Rewards Program, offers additional savings opportunities for savvy shoppers.

Online Shopping Experience: The ease of online ordering is a highlight, with straightforward shipping options and costs. Order tracking and delivery timeliness are generally reliable, though there can be occasional delays.

Quality and Durability of Products: The quality and durability of products, especially furniture and home goods, are adequate for the price point. Clothing and accessories are of reasonable quality, though not comparable to specialized retailers.

Loyalty Programs and Incentives: The Big Lots Rewards Program is a standout feature, offering membership benefits such as coupons, exclusive deals, and a points system that leads to rewards on future purchases.

Community Involvement and Sustainability: Big Lots demonstrates a commitment to community involvement through various initiatives and supports environmental sustainability efforts, though specific details are not extensively publicized.

Pros and Cons: Strengths include a wide product selection, competitive pricing, and a beneficial rewards program. Areas for improvement are in-store wait times and consistency in product quality. The online shopping experience could also be enhanced with real-time stock updates.

Final Verdict: Overall, Big Lots offers a satisfactory shopping experience for those looking for variety and value. It is particularly recommended for customers seeking affordable home goods and those who appreciate loyalty rewards.
