This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I keep getting phone calls from them, telling me I can't cancel and if I don't pay they will send it to collections! I explained to them I am not working and have to feed my children. They said I owe them 825.00.For magazines, are you kidding me? They said I committed myself to five years! Well they kept calling me and calling me, and each time I thought it was to confirm my order,so maybe I wasn't paying close attention to what was being said. There has to be a way out of this mess!

Can someone please help me?

Scammers scammers scammers. I was lured into signing up for this service by a promise of a free laptop as a gift for signing up. Guess what? Come to find out "I don't qualify" for some reason or another. I specifically asked multiple times if I qualified, and that I didn't need to take any more steps to get my free laptop. The sales rep lied. Plain and simple. Also, after half an hour on the phone with the Viking sales reps and managers, I'm told for being so patient I'll get money knocked off my monthly subscription. YAY right?! Nope... they still charged me the $59 whatever. So once I find out I'm not getting the laptop I call and tell them to cancel. I was billed only 9 days ago. They take 4 days to call me back, and proceed to tell me I can't cancel, I made a commitment. I say, well I changed my mind, and haven't gotten any magazines yet. After telling this guy for an hour or whatever that I don't WANT magazines I wanted the free laptop I was tricked into believing I was getting, he finally says well I can see we won't be changing your mind. You've already been billed for your first cycle blah blah blah so if you'd like instead of continuing your service I can switch it to your one magazine for 2 years. You've already paid. So I said fine screw it and HOPEFULLY will only be getting that one payment taken out. I still feel screwed and don't want the magazine... I may try calling back tomorrow and telling them I want my money back, don't want their stupid magazine, and if they give me any ### I'll report them. Think it'll work? Probably not worth my time. $60 gone... oh well as long as they don't call me anymore, or take any more of my money. Will be problems. Someone please get these ### shut down.

Im glad I came across this site. I too just had my phone hooked up about 5 days ago, and today I got a call from them, I didnt speak to them they left no message, I seen their name on the caller ID. Seeing it was a magazine and I write an automotive related column for an on-line paper I thought someone seen my writings and wanted to talk to me, so I Googled their name seen their page and knew right away they wanted to sell me some thing.
Next time they call I'll know not to pick up! Thanks for the heads up.

They are so unprofesssional. There is a woman in "collections" names Christy, who keeps calling and teleSTALKING me. I told them I did not want their service, I told them I never agreed to pay 5 years worth of magazines that they cannot be certain will even be in print in 5 years. They yell, can't pronounce their words, have horrible grammar and keep calling both my phones number, of which I did NOT give them. I told them they should use their time to sell and call people that WANT their service NOT people that DON"T want it...they are completely nuts, like who would work for such a scammy company. They even called me today, wanted to know my new credit card number, so that they could issues me a refund, IN THE EVENT, that they may have made a mistake! Like I am going to give them my credit card number? They are complete idiots and I have filed a Consumer Protection Complaint against these nutcases...i cannot believe they are in business...They call both my phones all day long...why aren't they calling people who want their service? Highschool dropouts who can't get a better job would only work for such a scammy company...please google consumer protection in your state and file a complaint or call the Minnesota Better Business Bureau and the Police Department in their city...they are completely unprofessional and a scam.

I just got a call tonight from this service. I have had my home phone hooked up for a whopping 4 days so the only people that have the number are my landlord, my mother-in-law, and the phone company. Surely the first two didn't sell my name, so it had to be the phone company. That is another issue altogether but as a former phone rep, I want to remind everyone to do what I forgot and clearly state any time to start a new service (phone, internet, whatever) that you do not want your information shared.
Anyway, the woman called at 8:50 at night. She mispronounced my last name 4 times and then tried to give me a pitch about how she just wants to let me know that I'll be receiving these magazines for six months. I didn't listen to the rest of the pitch. I told her not to send anything, that I wasn't interested, and I hung up. As the phone was going down, I heard her try to save the sale by saying "No, no ma'am" but that's all I heard before the phone went click. Since I was so clear in my refusal, this had BETTER be the end of the calls. I will be instructing my family not to answer anything from this company in the future.
My point is, what this woman said and what "Hank" claims is said are completely different. This woman made it sound like she was just going to have six months of magazines sent to me, end of story. I'm sure if I had stayed on the phone, I would have had her asking for my credit card number and all sorts of things. Not happening!
But it only goes to show that this company IS misleading people and playing on them to try to trick them into paying money. Never, ever give out financial info over the phone and when someone like this calls, just hang up after you tell them no. There is no such thing as free in this life, especially from telemarketers.

My husband just got a call from these people, and thought it sounded good. So, he agreed. The guy then said that a supervisor would be calling him, in a few minutes to ask him if he was satisfied. So, while my husband was waiting for this supervisor to call we decided to look at the website. After we saw the website had no information on it at all we decided to look up reviews. Then we found this website. When the supervisor finally called back we told her we were not interested anymore. She asked why and he told her why. Then she proceeded to say that the order was already complete and that there was nothing she can do, and that we would have to pay. Then she proceeded to say that he also agreed to a 60 month commitment. My husband said they never mentioned anything about a 60 month commitment. These people are nothing but big scammers. Luckily they didn't ask for any credit or checking account number. We will also be contacting a lawyer about this tomorrow.

I will be getting with an attorney in the coming week to start a class action lawsuit against this company. They are breaking the law. I will post a link to the website here once it is up and running for people to join the lawsuit.

This place needs to be and WILL be shut down.

I am currently in a dispute with Viking ... They caught me one morning upon waking up after I had only had my phone turned on for 24 hours. They said that they got my number from the phone company. I didn't go with an unlisted number and hadn't put in for Do Not Call list yet so I didn't think much about it. I let them play their speil and the price sounded right in the beginning. I am a single mother of 3 small kids and by the 3rd phone call the kids were running around screaming and I was trying to cook breakfast. Of course like everyone else has stated... the price did go up. I think I paid them the first $30 and then my finances went down hill. I started recieving magazines almost immediately. NOT ONE of them were anything that I would have even thought about reading. For 2 months I never recieved what I had actually ordered. I refused to send them anymore money and flat out told them so. I told them they could give them away to someone else cause I wasn't paying the bill. I finally moved 2 months ago and somehow they got ahold of my prepaid cell number...?... I had a small discusion with them that resulted in them hanging up on me and then calling me back and telling me that there was a mistake on my account and that they were going to refund my money to me. Hence, asking me for more personal info. I had refused to give them my new address and told them that I hope the new tenants at the residence enjoyed the massive amounts of magazines because I did not want them. And I also told them that I refuse to give out anymore personal info and that they could keep the $30 as a gift for their hard efforts. They then had me put on hold and went and got a supervisor or someone else and they told me that apparently there actually wasn't a mistake and that I was still held liable for my obligation of payment. She proceeded to play the recording of the final phone call when the order was placed... I hung up half way thru cause it was eating my minutes. I then proceeded to call them back and the woman was pisssssssed... she proceeded to get extremely irate with me wondering why i hung up on the recording and I told her she was eating my minutes and that I know what was said. And that I still refused the service cause I was not going to pay for something because I had not received anything that I was suppose to be paying for. (I probably made 2 payments with them... I don't remember). They have now supposedly given it over to a collector. The collectors call about 3 times a day and I have fun tormenting them. I even got loud into the phone cause they called at 9:30 at night. I just picked it up and said " You do realize it is illegal for you to call me after 9pm, maybe you'll have a better chance tomorrow!" They hung up directly without saying anything. The next day I told the collector that if the company had done a credit check on me before making me a loan for a bunch of magazines then they never would have got themselves into the position. My credit score is extremely bad from a past marriage and the divorce and I don't have funds to fix it while trying to feed and house my children along with sitters just so I can go to work. I do think that for these types of companies (just as the banks have to do) they should be required to have a hand signature on a document that lists everything about YOUR OBLIGATIONS to them so there is no misunderstanding. Especially with the amount they are charging! I still refuse to pay them and I'm basically waiting to see how far they will go... There has been no activity on my credit reports from them and thanks to this post ... I now have more ammo to mess with them with... Yes I am that bored sometimes...lol I wish everyone luck in whichever way they are dealing with these guys... I should have known better and I did know better and I still fell into it... Another hard lesson learned the hard way :D

**I worked there for one day** They have callers in Bloomington Minnesota and also Fridley. I started at the Fridley call center and soon realised that they were ripping people off and I never came back.
I never got paid for that day either!
It is crazy to pay that much money for magazines and NO...you cannot cancel. I think if you cancel the card you are using and have a new one reissued it should stop them from stealing your money...call your bank.

Oh, and here is how it works. There is a huge room of callers and if the person does not have a bank account of credit card number you are to tell them that the 'program' is not for them. You are not to mention the price but once and it is all script read. Seriously, most of the kids working there were high and ... it was a crazy environment. They also steal from the workers, I actually sold 2 subscriptions, but they make the manager there finalise it...he said they didn't want them. I called the people back since I jotted the phone numbers down and sure enough they both said they gave their credit card info to my manager.
I decided not to return because I couldn't stomach the fact they are ripping people off or magazine (which you should subscribe to from the magazine themselves). Please beware of Viking Magazine!

To add to my previous comment. Before paying them the full 5 year payments, we had paid for a few months, then I told them I wasn't going to pay, and cancelled my credit card. After disputing with them, THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD GIVE US A REFUND, SO I GAVE THEM A NEW CARD NUMBER. After giving them my number they said they couldn't refund the money. AT NO POINT DID I TELL THEM THEY COULD TAKE ANY MONEY OUT OF MY ACCOUNT. The next day I had a payment pending on my account. THEY STRAIGHT UP TRIED STEALING MONEY OUT OF MY BANK ACCOUNT, WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. I cancelled the card the same day. Then a couple weeks later my wife for some reason paid the $800 dollars.

My wife ordered with viking as well. I told them we're not paying them, but my wife paid anyways. I don't know how much, $800 or something. She's on deployment in the Navy and now they're calling up and saying we only have a year and a half left, even though we paid for 5 years. They won't give us a refund! Way to support the troops! I'm sick of their calls. I don't even think she has recieved a magazine from them.

When I agreed to start this subscription I honestly didn't understand what i was getting myself into first off I didn't relize that the payment would be so high for a magiazine subscription. But that was my fault for not listening to them. So to all of you who are having trouble with this company you need to realize that you got suckered because they knew how to word it just right so if someone isn't really paying attention they can sucker you into paying more then you really should be. The only thing I can say is if you talk to them you can get them to lower the monthly payments so you arn't doing so much for each month. When I started out I was paying $50 a month. well i got them to lower it to about $30 dollars a month. I was however not recieving all of the magazines that i had ordered but they called me not that long ago and told me that they realized they weren't sending all of them and apologiesed and said that they would start sending all of them. The thing that does get me about these people is I just set up a landline connection a week ago and they have already started calling it. Since i really dont want to talk to these people thank god i got caller ID along with it too! so i wish the best to everyone and hope you can if anything lower your payments. if you find out how to get out of it please let me know.

viking magazine did the same thing to my 20 year old son, when i called them to cancel they said they couldn't cancel it cause it was over 14 days, well this is ### cause when they can take your word verbly, and use that against you as a binding leagal contract, they sure as hell can take it to cancel the order, you shouldn't havr o sign a paper to opt out . i think it's ### no magazines is worth 1000.00. and i feel we all need to obtain an attorney and sue these people . see how they would like to pay millions out .

LISTEN UP FOLKS! HERE IS ALL YOU NEED TO DO – TRUST ME ON THIS; I HAVE SPENT YEARS ON THE INSIDE OF THIS BUSINESS… I MEAN SCAM.

O.K. you’ve agreed to purchase these magazines because some wanna-be slick high school ### gave you the ‘speed read’ while you were trying to cook dinner. You were even stupid enough to go get your credit card “do you need me to hold while you locate that”… ring a bell?

O.K. here is where the ‘trust me’ comes into play… simply tell them to cancel, also tell them you are going to contact the state attorney general and for goodness sake call your credit card company and tell them to stop any future transactions.

Ohhh sure their “collection department” will tell you that you HAVE to pay… and that you’ve been recorded agreeing to the terms… and that it will ruin your credit… etc, etc. Well, you may have agreed to purchase the magazines… so what! AGAIN, tell them to cancel your order and put your name on their ‘do not call list’ and that you want the owners name because you are calling the state attorney general because you believe you were misled into this transaction. Believe me, they will NOT report this to any credit bureau and the prospect of having the attorney general poking around their little scam operation… you know, just to make sure their up to date and current on the ‘do not call list’ and that their ‘sales script’ is legal along with their lead source (no pds files) etc, etc… will have them simply canceling your order.

You’re welcome.

I just got off the phone with the viking magazine company. They reeled my husband in after offering him a prize of some kind. Now they want us to pay 897.oo for magazines they are sending in. I told them we dont need them, I dont read them and my husband is deployed. So he couldnt have canceled even if he knew about this cancelation policy. These people are so rude and give you the runaround. They played a recording for me that basically had my husband's voice saying yeah and okay after every question the guy asked him. This guy was talking so fast, and my husband would have stopped him and told him to slow it down. He never just lets people talk like that when it's information he needs to know. Anyways, all this stuff about them confirming the order and stuff like that is bull. All they want is to get your info so they can make money. And they are targeting soldiers and their families. Wtf! My husband is out defending their freedom and they are conning him. I filed a complaint with the bbb and my husband is going to talk to his lawyer about this. Im thinking of taking this all the way. If you have been scammed and you havent been able to get out of this, send me your name and number. I am going to court with this if I have to and I need proof that this isnt the only time it has happened. we need to work together to get this company closed down. They cant just keep taking peoples' money like this. Here's my email: g_atita23_pr@yahoo.com

I'm glad I read this. I went all the way through the process about an hour ago and then went to the internet. After reading these I called Vikings customer service number right away and told them to cancel it. They had already attempted to charge my account but it hasen't gone through. I was suspicious once the price seemed to change, and am glad I found this. I didn't have any issues with the customer service being rude but that's little compensation for trying to rob me.

Terrible company. I am laid off and barely make enough money to keep a roof over my head. Tried to cancel, but they hang up on you and treat you like a 3rd class citizen when you call customer service. I'm a disabled veteran, and live on $900 a month, and these guys told me I could get 5 magazines a month for $15. Of course, I agreed out of boredom with sitting at home, thinking that it was a good deal. A few months later my rent went up, so I tried to cancel my subscription, they said I can't do that and the next bill was $50! That place is a total scam, the subscriptions aren't worth it, the junk magazines are irritating, and their customer service is the worst I've ever encountered.

I am writing for what I have went through in the last few magazines which I did not want and have to pay for them but last month when they took out 39.99
out of my instead of the 29.99 I called and the customer service said I did not have to pay this month but I check my account and found out they did take out my account 29.99and they messed up my account again so I am going to pay off this account for these magazines and never pick up the phone again and talk to viking magazine employee again which I have been very smart over the years of avoiding them and other telemarketers

I just did the same thing but it was for another magazine company. They recorded me to but I was thinking they never record you saying you couldn't cancel the account or that you had to pay for everything. You were just agreeing to a payment plan not a contract. and They didn't have you guys sign anything either. Tell then to stick where the sun don't shine and if they don't you will get your lawyers involved and you will sue the living [censored] out of them. that should scare them off.

I got loured into a similar ploy by United Readers Service. Those ### are taking the money I could use for daipers and glasses so that i can actually see the phone number when they call everyday. If our country is so great, how could these types of scams be legal? Our economy is plumiting. People here in SO CAL are deeply in debt and these east coast snobs think that they can just trap undeserving people in more debt. It is right here in front of there eyes...in black and white. This needs to stop. These are not the types of enterprises our country has taken pride in protecting.

I got caught up in this scam about a year ago and got stuck paying $360 to shut these people up. I never recieved the cancellation document and since it was past 14 days I got royally screwed! They are awful, dishonest people who have no shame. I had not heard from them in about 6 months but then the past couple of days Viking started calling me! I saw their 952 area code and just cringed! I was like who the ### do these people think they are. My fiance answered my phone and told them to not call again and the guy of course was so rude to him. (typical of Viking magazine people) They then called me back again yesterday! So I finally answered the phone, (I had already paid everything off to get these people off my back and told them to put me on do not call list 6 months ag0). Now 6 months later they had the nerve to call me back and say prices were going up ! WTF! I told them I have already paid you people off and to get off my back and to never call me again. I am worried they might start charging me again. These company is ridiculous and are scam artists. HOw do they live with themselves at night knowing they are ripping people off! Whatever you do stay as far away as possible from VIKING MAGAZINE!

Please, the same thing has been happening to my daughter they won't let her cancel. I answered once and asked the woman why can't my daughter just cancel them she is a single mom of two and can't afford the magazines and she said that she didn't cancel in the alloted time. I then asked her if my daughter would have to keep buying magazines for the rest of her life since there is no cancellation policy and she had no answer. I put in a complaint with the BBB and Attorney General, this is enough my phone never stops ringing.

Well after they get through the whole shpeal they want a credit card from you right then. I told them I wasn't going to give it to them and they said it was necessary for the order. That is was direct payment from the credit card company. I mean really? This day and age and they want me to just hand them all that information, and not be willing to send a bill every month. The first time they called me they told me that there were no charges applied to the card, that it was just a verification method. Okay?! Now, the last time they called, they said it was to ensure payment. At least if they are going to tyr and hustle me, they should have the same story and procedures. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE. It is a scam, they lock you into a contract and they have your credit card information. Big mistake. If you plan on ordering magazines, do it for a good cause. Order through MADD, a portion of their profits go to the awareness of teens driving drunk. They are extremely pleasent, easy to work with, and NEVER ask you fro credit card information. They send you a bill every month that is usually no larger than 20$!

I got involved with this company after they tried to rip off my son for four, 60 month subscriptions and one 36 month subscription. They wanted $897.00. They took him for $360.00+ before I got involved. My son is in the military and they tried to play that angle to get him to pay. What they failed to realize is that I commanded a squadron and that I understand pedators that prey on young people. I told them that I directed him to stop paying, to get a new card from his bank and never give the number to anyone. That's just free acces to your account. When I told them they were stealing from people, they told me I was an over protective father. To which I said thank you. I then got the supervisor to admit that the sales pitch is fast paced, but he said it's repeated three times and recorded. To which I responded, it doesn't matter. My son told me he cancelled to which the supervisor said, not in time. So I told him it's your word against his and his word was good enough. You need to be firm and stay in control and and ask to talk to a supervisor. You can put them on the defensive easily and it becomes clear they know they are stealing from people. Don't let them bully you with threats of collection. If it shows up on your credit report, explain the situation if asked. The bank/lender will understand that this company is a predator. This type of situation was a major topic of my commander's calls. They won't see any more of his money. More people need to tell companies like this NO!

We are just going through the same thing except the company has added subscriptions and has not delivered the magazines we originally ordered or return any of the monies. We just filled with the BBB today.

Hank, after reading your message, it sounds like this service provides a loan for magazines. I did not think of it that way (I mean, seriously..who would get a loan for magazines?). Had I thought of that, I definitely would not have gotten the service. If you all advertise "loan" how many people would get the service? Essentially, that is exactly what this is. When you compare it to making a car payment, and you say that after the 14 days, the service can not be cancelled because Viking pays for the subscriptions and you are paying the money back to Viking...hmmm...definitely sounds like a loan to me. Magazines are a luxury item and not something that we should be forced to pay for. I will agree that everything was said to me and I do not hold the company at fault but I would not recommend this service to anyone. My company is closing in a few months and I will be laid off, I'm a single mother to 3 small children...paying for magazines is not at the top of my priority list and it sucks that I am "stuck" with this.

I just hung up on a little ### of a guy and also I made a complaint to the better business bureau and I called my friend who is a lawyer. She said it is trickery what they do however you have to fight it in writing to the company and also dispute your credit report if they take you to collections. They can't report you unless you have prior written notice about it.
