Veterans Support Organization Bogus Veterans' &Charity&

Veterans Support Organization is a bogus 501(c)(3) "non-Profit" which rakes in huge revenue and but spends next to nothing on actual veterans' services. It solicits donations through paid personnel, some of whom allegedly never served in the military, at malls and other locations across the country. It claims fake uniforms etc. as part of its program expense but does little of substance, spending only about 15% of its income on programs. It purports to publish the results of an "independent audit" on its website. In fact it does not.

Instead one finds a mere two page summary without details which is worthless. Presumably if the audit was conducted according to generally accepted accounting principals AND it supported the assertion that 65% of the gross revenue of $2.5m+ received in fiscal year 2009 was actual spent on veterans' programs same would be supplied for anyone to read. The fact that it is not is inherently suspect. Beware of this organization and be aware that the fact that a corporation is a "non-profit" does not mean that it is truly a charity.

I've been lucky enough to be given a job by VSO. I was on the brink of losing my house because no one wanted a Vet with PTSD working for them. But after sitting down with the Founder of VSO, I explained that I was a disabled veteran who had mental and physical injuries that kept me from normal employment. He and his staff welcomed me with open arms and gave me the opportunity to provide for my wife and child. I have seen how hard uneducated individuals try to bash the name of VSO through opinions.

"well I looked you up on the interned and saw an article stating you were a fraud."
Ha, well congratulations on looking at an outdated article and having a journalist make up your mind. I promise you, If you research VSO that you will find bad press. But look at the dates, and ask some damn questions. I cannot find a current article bashing VSO, the closest is from over a year ago (and the problems pointed out have been fixed and SOPs have been put in place to make sure they never happen again.)

Ask yourself this: If the Veterans Support Organization was a fraudulent non-profit, then how would we be in business for over 10 years, why would over 50 VAs rave about how we help their local veterans though donations, why would the IRS (as of a 2012 Audit) say that we passed with flying colors and should keep on doing what we are doing, how were we able to give over 400 veterans jobs in 2012, how are we able to house nearly 150 HOMELESS VETERANS.?

Too many people are not taking the time to ask the right questions, . We give 70% of the money we raise to our IN HOUSE PROGRAMS. we house veterans, we give them jobs as a stepping stone for better opportunities, we hove item/gift card donations to the VA and even have a grant program for vets in need. I have seen first hand how VSO helps veterans. I would have lost my home marriage and possibly my life if not given the opportunity to better myself.

Veterans Support Organization - SCAM

I have seen these guys out at the Malls, they don't wear the same uniforms that they did in the past, they are like snakes they change the way they look to blend in. I am a Army Vet, I am dishonered by the way they do business. I spoke to the one guy that was at the Mall and he sounded like a drunk..I can not believe that the Malls would allow a group like...

Veterans Support Organization Fraud/Scam

I worked for the VSO from February 2002 - May 2005. During that time I witnessed money being pocketed by the CEO, and other employees of the veterans supports organization. The CEO makes 51, 000 per year. Does that include all the money he pockets? Now i hear his wife is the President of New Life Haven and a part of the Board of Directors. I wonder how much she pockets. Also, his two daughters are paid employees with the vso. This is a scam. This is a scam. This is a scam. This is a scam. This is a scam. This is a scam. They live in a 2.5 million dollar house in Florida. How can someone that reports to the IRS making 51, 000 per year afford a 2.5 million dollar house! If someone looks into the tax filing for the vso, they will see that they only started giving in 2006. From [protected] the money was used for the board of directors benefits, then they realized " oh we have to give before we get caught ". I'm ashamed to ever work for this organization. They used the word "Veteran" to trick people into giving. I can't believe they are still around. I thought by now they would have been caught. I'm warning every community in South Florida, Florida and throughout the United States to be very careful with the veterans support organization and if you see them to please call your local police and explain what they do. I google their name and i find over 100 articles calling them a scam. Someone put an end to this scam.

VETERANS SUPPORT ORGANIZATION IS A SCAM-

Veterans Support Organization purpose of the corporation, item 6; it says nothing about veterans although all of their videos insinuate they exist to support veterans:

http://ucc.state.ri.us/CORP_DRIVE1/2009/0508/000000000/1427/200945651110_1.pdf

See how a non-commercial TV station, School Board of Broward County's TV station (FL), has been duped; notice the professional way the solicitors are dressed insinuating they are veterans; listen to the president admitting that the collectors are semi-employees, probably listed as sub-contractors for the IRS; they are paid panhandlers:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcZsT1AUVB4

The Stolen Valor Act of 2005,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Valor_Act_of_2005

should be expanded to include this kind of activity.

Everyone in New York please go to " The Stolen Valor Act" website and complain about the VSO and their scam.

DEAR STORE OWNERS OF NEW YORK, LONG ISLAND AND THE TRI-STATE AREA PLEASE BE CAREFUL OF THE VETERANS SUPPORT ORGANIZATION. THEY HIRED EX-CONS ( CRIMINALS ) TO FUNDRAISE IN FRONT OF STORES. THEY WEAR UNIFORMS ( CAMMIES ) WITHOUT PROPER IDENTIFICATION. ALSO, HALF OF THEM ARE NOT VETERANS OR ACTIVE SOLDIERS, DID I MENTIONED ALSO CRIMINALS! THEY ALSO POCKET 25 PERCENT OF WHAT PEOPLE DONATE PLUS EXPENSES..AMAZING! IT'S SO WRONG FOR SOMEONE TO WEAR A UNIFORM IF THEY HAVE NEVER SERVED, YET THEY DO AND THAT'S A DISHONOR TO ME. I WENT THROUGH HELL TO BE ABLE TO WEAR THE UNIFORM OF A SOLDIER, BUT THESE GUYS GO TO WALMART AND BUY THEM FOR 40 DOLLARS. Veterans Support Organization Veterans Support Organization WILL NOW CUT A CHECK AS &HUSH& MONEY

Brothers and Sisters the Veterans Support Organization will probably now give to VA hospitals around New York, Long Island and the tri-state area to cover their tracks. When someone calls them on it, then they step up and cut a check. They have done this many times in the past. Please DONT ACCEPT THE CHECK. I REPEAT VA VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENTS THAT HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THE VETERAN SUPPORT ORGANIZATION PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT THE CHECK!. IT'S JUST "HUSH"MONEY. THEY HAVE DONE THIS IN THE PAST. SEARCH THEIR NAME ONLINE AND GO THROUGH THE PAGES AND YOU WILL FIND MANY ARTICLES OF HOW THEY ONLY GIVE WHEN QUESTIONED AND HOW MANY TIMES THEY HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED IN THE STATES THEY REPRESENT. THE VETERANS SUPPORT ORGANIZATION SHOULD LEAVE NEW YORK IMMEDIATELY! ALSO, STORE OWNERS AROUND NEW YORK, LONG ISLAND LET ME ASK YOU SOMETHING. DO YOU REALLY WANT EX-CONS, CRIMINALS COLLECTING MONETARY DONATIONS INFRONT OF YOUR STORE? THE ANSWER IS NO. VETERANS SUPPORT ORGANIZATION AND THEIR SCAM CAME TO THE WRONG STATE AND SHOULD GO BACK TO FLORIDA.

Veterans Support Organization Veterans Support Organization lies

The VSO, also known as the veterans support organization say their future vision goals are to start a safe and sober housing center in upstate NY. The Veterans Support Organization say they are solely funded by the public. If they really care about our veterans they wouldn't wait until they collect enough funds. They can write a grant! How you might ask yourself? The U.S. Govt. gives millions of dollars in grants to organizations all the time. If the Veterans support Organization really wants to make this happen they would write a grant asap, and not keep collecting money. But you know why they don't do that...right? Simply because their employees keep 25 percent of what they collect plus travel and food expenses. Not to mention they probably pocket the money. There are so many good not for profits organizations in Ny, and Long Island that we dont need the VSO here. For example, the suffolk county United Veterans beacon house, Vetshelp, SCUV are just a few. Run by veterans for veterans. The Veterans Support Organization are run by ex-cons, civilians for ex-cons and civilians. Lets team up New York and stop the Veterans Support Organization once and for all.

Veterans Support Organization Non-profit

If there are any ligitimate complaints against the Veterans Support organization they should take it up with the BBB. The VSO changed my life. I do not say they are perfect, but

The Better Business Bureau provides mediation services to help consumers and businesses reach a mutually acceptable solution when complaints arise. The BBB acts as a neutral third party, listening to both sides of the story. Companies are ALWAYS made aware of the complaint and given an opportunity to respond BEFORE a complaint is closed and reported. Online complaint boards do not work that way.

Irate consumers post complaints without any checking being done to verify they are even customers and without the company being given a chance to respond. Postings of unverified statements may come from disgruntled former employees, unethical competitors, and consumers who in fact are wrong in their allegations.

Recently we received information from a local accredited business who hasn’t had a complaint filed to the BBB in the last 36 months. This company was told that a negative report had been filed against them by a complaint board and that it could be changed to a positive report if the company:

1.admitted wrong doing,
2.did what the customer wanted, and
3.paid several thousand dollars to participate in what was labeled as “Business Remediation, Customer Satisfaction & Resolution Programs” to remove the complaint.

The complaint board also promised not to post future negative information about companies paying money. It is interesting to note that this complaint board has a BBB rating of an “F” and has not responded to any complaints.

“It’s gotten so bad that we’ve had to file a restraining order against this individual, ” said the owner of the local accredited business. “If that’s not bad enough, the complaint board wants us to pay thousands of dollars to remove the false information from their website.”

Again, when a complaint is filed with the BBB, the key is that the company ALWAYS gets to review and respond to allegations BEFORE any reporting of the complaint.

The BBB advises companies that are subjects of allegations posted on complaint boards to prepare a response to the allegations. Review the complaint and response with legal counsel before posting. Depending on circumstances, often the best response may be no response at all. Under no circumstances should companies knuckle under to threats by paying money. The BBB would welcome information about these kinds of tactics.

Veterans Support Organization Shady Business

The Veterans Support Organization is similar to the UHO in many ways, and you guys know what happened to UHO..SCAM! They pay their employees 25 percent of what they collect, they hired ex-cons to fundraised for them, most of them never served in the United States Military, I can keep going but there's just too much negative information about them to type. The bottom line is that the Veterans Support Organization are a shady organization just like the UHO was and someone needs to do something about this in New York State. I even read that they fundraised at street corners and intersections! Are you kidding me. They say 100 percent goes to help local vets, local VA volunteer programs but It's not true at all. As a Veteran I'm deeply hurt that this is happening nowadays after vietnam and 9/11. There are many good organizations in New York that is run by veterans and they give over 90 percent. The Veterans Support Organization is not one of them. What a SHAME.

This "organization" was soliciting donations outside my local Walmart and they were kind of pushy and intimidating. Something about them just didn't seem right. They got ok reviews on Guidestar.org but I don't like the way they were asking for the donations. I was intimidated into giving them something and I just don't like that.

The VSO is the same as the UHO. Your paid employees collect monetary donations, your paid employees dont tell the public the truth that 25 percent goes straight to your ex-cons pockets collecting the money. You guys only give here and there to cover your tracks or when someone questions you...it shouldn't be like that at all. If you dont remember Veterans Support Organization please read the articles below to refresh your memory about your shady organization. Please take a moment. Thanks!

People should not make statements that they cannot back up. It is so easy to trash someone when the trasher is anonymous via internet. The VSO happen to be a 100% legitimate organization who have done remarkable work in the states they are registered in. The New York Chapter is new, started in October of 2009. It is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, registered in 5 states, since 2001, and has contributed millions of dollars since then to help local veterans with financial problems, jobs, housing, etc., and have helped the local VA Volunteer Services Department in their many great programs.

The people who are trashing this organization should be ashamed of themselves, for trying to do a greivous injustice to an organization that is first and foremost out to help local vets. This organization contributes to NEEDY VETS in each area they solicit in, and who they use to collect the donations is none of anybody's business, so long as the funds collected go where they are supposed to go. If they hire ex-cons, all the more power to them, they screen every collector, and each accepted one has committed to changing their lifestyle and working as a productive member of society. Why do the above trashers have anything against giving people a second chance at making a good life for themselves and their families? The VSO is not the UHO. To say it is is an unprofessional attempt to slander under cover of anonymity---a cowardly approach. If the trashers are for real, why don't they try to contact the VSO, and if they are truly in need of assistance, allow the VSO to show them who and what they are, by helping them---IF their claims are legitimate. The VSO website is www.vereranssupportorganization.org. Look them up!

I totally agree. They were at Roosevelt Field mall on Long Island back in December of 2009. The guy collecting donations looked more like an ex-con (criminal )rather than a veteran. He said he was a veteran so I asked him where he served and he couldnt tell me where. He also said he goes to the local VA. I asked him what town is the local VA..He said he didnt remember. I mean, our community needs to wake up and kick these guys out of New York! He was wearing cammies, but they were baggy and looked so unprofessional. I also ran into them at Pathmark. Once again, they tell these fairy tale stories that dont match up. I also noticed how they were smoking cigars infront of the people donating to them...unprofessional. The Veterans Support Organization = UHO. Enough said.

Veterans Support Organization Are they Really Helping

At first I thought them a scam. They I talked to the guys working. They told me they were homeless before VSO gave them the ability to participate in a OJT Program with housing and stability. They said today they were off the streets, learning to fend for them selves and regaining self respect.

They told me to call the VA Volunteer Service Division, Assistant Director Mike Brennan in NYC VA or the Chief Ms. Cintron. I did, they checked out as being a group who donated funds for holiday meals and were giving away winter coats and had a grant process for assisting needy vets with funds for rent or utltities. I then called Miami and West Palm Beach VA Volunteer Services Division and found out they not only donated regularly, but were the largest shelter for homeless vets in Broward County.

I recently saw them in a mall and spoke to them, I asked them their stories, they all verified that because of VSO they were back on the road to self respect and stability. A couple said they were ready to die because of their lack of self respect. They all admitted to earning a stipend for participating in the VSO work program but said withoout it they would not be able to get off the streets into housing and function.

The group appears to be providing a legitimate help to the vets participating in the program, so maybe they do not give 100 percent like other groups but the 50-70 percent going to veterans services is providing more than just a meeting hall, bar or BBQ and is changing lives.

I think everyone should call the VA Hospital Chief listed by the guys commenting here and check for themselves.

Update by Veterans Support Organization

I also checked them out. I gave $100 and wanted to know how it was being spent. I saw them at two malls. I talked to 5 different people with VSO. They all told me similar stories. They came in as homeless vets. Some with PTSD and could not hold down regular jobs. Today they are working on themselves as well as helping other vets. They all said without VSO they would be in the cold or a shelter and all said that before VSO they had been thinking about killing themselves.

Well, Ithought about it, thats 5 lives VSO saved. I then asked about Florida, where two of them came from. They said there are over 60 brothers and sister vets at a place called New Life Haven. I checked it was true. They had a national shelter for Vets.

So, how many lives does it take to make my donation worth while, well in y opinion just one, the next day I donated anther $100 and hope to help at the new center when it opens.

You see, I wa a homelss vet myself once.

I agree. The Veterans Support Organization has to leave Long Island, New York and various other parts of this country. They are lying ###. Attached is a picture of one of the criminals who works for the organization pretending to have worked overseas... Crooks and criminals just like the Illuminati thugs in charge of this country. People need to wake up and see the lies on both the big level and the smell level - these crooks are not a real non-for-profit. THEY TAKE SOME OF THE MONEY AND POCKET IT! She and Mike Brennan are real verifiable people at the VA who have checked with VA in FLA and have verified the assistance given by Veterans Support Group. Then I applied for help and received it. You know, most charities give like less than 24% to actaul programs. The Salvation Army gives like 87% according to the recent VSO Filing they give 67.5%. These funds go toward changing lives of persons with PTSD not self infliced drinking problems or drugs.

I had my brother in VSO and it changed his life. What is one life or 20 worth. Before we judge we should talk to the person in their program.

Veterans Support Organization Fraud

The Veterans Support Organization is a big SCAM!.Everyone please be very careful. They are all over the New York- Tri-state area. They were at my hometown of Huntington, Long Island at the Walt Whitman Mall in NY. I approached the guy soliciting money. He said ONE HUNDRED percent goest to help Local Vets. Thats not true at all. These guys collecting money get PAY for their time and they are not volunteers at all. They are civilians, ex-cons, but not soldiers in most cases. The next day I went back, and another guy was there. This time I was told that they give all the money to the "FOOD PANTRY IN QUEENS". QUEENS? Get the story right "VSO".If they are collecting money on Long Island, why don't they give money to Long Island soldiers. I know of 3 good Long Island not for profits that help soldiers, veterans ; not only with money but with food, and if the "Veterans Support Organization" are so concern to raise money for the food pantry, why dont they collect food instead of cash, and give it to the pantry on Long Island, NY! Seriously, the Charity bureau department of New York has to investigate these guys ASAP. They collected hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past few months. Also, in their incorporation papers it says they are incorporated in Rhode Island, but doing business in New York, which makes no sense. They have also changed their address three times since september 2009, and their phone number twice since then. They tell people lies, they wear cammies( uniforms ) with no name tag, or branch name on them to make the appearance that they are soldiers so people would donate huge bills to them, but it's just a big scam. All over the internet are stories how the Veterans Support Organization is a huge "mafia" scam, that started in Florida back in 2001, and they only donate when someone questions them. Enough is Enough, and someone please do something about the "Veterans Support Organization" and stop their fraud organization.
