I called the VAC hospital in NYC, and asked if I could bring in a ferral cat to be euthanized. I drove across several boros, at night, only to have the vet tell me no she wasn't going to euthanize the cat. She didn't even look at the cat once, which was in a cage in the corner. She advised me to go to animal control, however both 311 and animal control told me they won't help with ferral cats. I'm a nurse, and told VAC I euthanized one sick ferral cat at home; only to have the administrator threaten me, saying "You kill cats, it's now documented". Never mind that I'm trying to help suffering animals. VAC is a horror show...I'll try never to enter their hospitals again. First and last time here, and NEVER EVER mention euthanizing an animal at home. These are corporate people, and they're evil.

i took my pom to vet, because i want them to clean his teeth, dr. said he needs to have xrays and blood test befor cleaning his teeth. i have went to same hospital three times, and this last time i went they got me with a high bill, dr. said he needs xray and blood test, i was charge 424.00 and she said when i bring him back to clean his teeth, it will be another 400.00 dollars or more. i think is to much money, i already gave 424.00 dollars and i had to pay extra for his medication. the nurse said i am looking at 900.00 dollars. do you think that is to much what their charging me?
thank you

Not too much. Medicine is very expensive. Let me tell you what you’re paying for:

1) the Vet’s professional services- examining your dog to ensure they’re safe to undergo anesthesia, the appropriate preanesthetic labs, knowing what drugs to give YOUR pet, how much, and when (this includes all premedications, the anesthesia, blocks, and medications to go home), knowing what fluids to administer and at what rate and when, knowing what to do in an emergency, mapping the mouth (missing, loose, broken teeth, any masses, etc), interpreting oral radiographs, and then taking the time to drill and extract diseased and damaged teeth.

2) Radiographs of the teeth

3) Technician’s time - monitoring under anesthesia, scaling and polishing the teeth, and then recovering your pet.

Dentals often go anywhere from 1-3 hours, that’s a lot of time and a lot of things can go wrong. $900 is cheap. Most dentals are going to cost you $1500-$2700 depending on what needs to be done. That’s why VCA offers their care club packages (helps to unload a lot of those costs) and a lot of insurance companies are willing to help cover costs now.

Owning a pet is a privilege, not a right.

That’s not true…at all. And each hospital runs differently. I have seen some vets at VCA hospitals bend over backwards to help pets!

This complaint is totally bogus! Also, why don't you learn to write or speak English! No one sold your pet out from under you, you idiot! You were probably to stupid to understand what the Dr. was even talking to you about. $1800 dollars for Canine Parvo Enteritis is a reasonable amount!
