I got an email a few days ago from an American company that organizes Green Cards for a US Visa for individuals. I did an application with them a few years ago, after graduating from college, but have no interest in renewing it now. In the email they sent, they asked me to update my details & re-upload a photo, now it appears that I was mislead and in updating my details they renewed my subscription. I don't want any transaction to go through from them & have told them so, but they have not responded to my request.

Please see a copy of emails exchanged to further explain:

Dear Garry Kelly,
Please note that the charge for your application was only made once. We charged 29$ for one year in the green card lottery. The reason why your application is now locked is because our technical department needs to review it and we can~t have any change of details during the review.

You have not answered my question: Have you charged me for registering an application which i only updated (2nd June 2007)?

What do you mean by locking my profile? Are you trying to automatically charge me now on a continuous rota?

I await a response anxiously,
Garry

Dear A woman from Norway,
There are many cheats roaming on the internet, who keep fooling people on the name of some big company. Unfortunately, USAFIS is one of the victims of such frauds and have succeeded in maligning the name to some extent. I know atleast one family who are in USA because of the services of USAFIS. You can always keep your issue on their official website and I am sure your voice will be heard. You will come to know whether it was USAFIS or someone else.

I registered with USAFIS almost 3 weeks ago.. yesterday I uploaded my photo to the application. A woman named Jane Parker also called me about my credit card numer, and at that moment my stomach felt it. To give out your credit card number over the phone is just something one should never do. It is insecure, as you do not know who is sitting on the other side. I didn't think about it too much and clearly when she called, so I gave her the number. Ever since then I have been feeling in-complacent. So now, after reading all your negative comments from all over the world, I decided to block my credit card, and order a new one.

Thank you for great advice,

A woman from Norway

I applied for 2011 DV programme through USAFIS. They have since called for complete documents which i have submitted, However they requsted my Credit card confirmation details which i gave in good faith.I have since noticed from my Credit Card statement that they keep collecting funds every month which cannot be accounted for. Am now getting worried about the safety of my money.
Are we sure about this organisation's activities?

* Green Card Lottery winners will receive airline ticket1 for free, up to $500 value.
Terms mentioned herein are limited to winners who registered
through usafis.org and hired Usafis.org affiliated law firm to process their Green Card application.

That is what their site says. You will need to pay their law firm to process you green card application in case you won it, and it will cost you about $2600.00 USD. For this amount you can purchase at least 2 tickets one way from any point in the world to US.

Except that you will also need to pay at least $755.00 USD to your local Consulate when you will go to the interview to take your visa. And additional $$$ for passing various medical tests and vaccins. It is not as easy as it looks like.

USAFIS – Promising Successful DV Lottery Application Submission

USAFIS is a non governmental agency, assisting people in getting a Green Card through diversity lottery program. With our expertise, we can make the process of getting a Green Card simpler, by preparing a to-the-point and error free application for you.

It’s true that people can apply to Diversity Lottery program for free, whereas we charge some money for the services provided. But it doesn’t mean that we make any false promises to people. We only guarantee the acceptance of your application to the DV lottery program. Whoever is claiming that we promised them a Green Card is totally wrong? No one can guarantee you a green card through Diversity Lottery program.

At USAFIS we only help users in making successful submission of AV lottery application form. We remove all the possible chances of making mistakes and prepare an application with comprehensive details and documentations.

Some people even claim that we have charged their credit cards illegally, this is a complete mesh. As we are strict followers of law and all legal rules associated with customer services, which means there is no chance of any misuse of your credit card.

Received a call which I was very suspicious about from USAFIS. After being pressured into it by their staff they managed to secure my account details. I now regret this as they are a FRAUDULENT COMPANY which you should NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR. Keep the change. I hope karma prevails.

USAFIS.org is SCAM / FRAUD / HOAX.

DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE!

Please read the following warning form the Federal Trade Commission:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt003.shtm

I made same experience as Tiffany Yearwood described in the previous comments. A fictional character "Jane Parker" called me on my phone and requested my bank account details via phone. When I told her that I can't give away my details over the phone, she forwarded me to her "supervisor". He also then asked me for my bank account details, claiming that that is the only thing left to make the application to enter the lottery. When I said that I would like to make a bit of research before paying for something, he got upset and hang up. He was very frisky about getting my money RIGHT NOW, which immediately unveiled the obvious fraud.

Applying for green card lottery is FREE of CHARGE! So don't pay anybody, even if they claim that you are paying for their service. Application is very simple and can be done online, you don't need to pay anybody to do it for you. It is so simple that only a illiterate person will not be able to complete it.

For reference, read again the following warning about USAFIS.ORG alike websites:

USAFIS is a fraud - what the friggin hell? but they give you a ticket to the usa if you win no? check the terms and conditions. you can enter for yourself free but you won't get a plane ticket you silly people. and if you were smart enough to realise www.usasgclottery.org also does this service. these people can't crook you because the USA green card lottery now has online electronic checking and email confirmation that your entry was received and YOU CAN CHECK the status of your application now too. So there is no fraud you silly people. Wake up. You are paying for a service of them doing it for you and if you win you can get a free flight - tell me does the official site give you flights? NO - wake up.

Guys,

i have been contacted by USAFIS and i have applied over the phone and entered the draw. the woman who called me was an american unlike the stories i hear over here, but now i have serious doubts about what is really going on with that organization.
They have also given me a username and password and they have emailed me the receipt of the money i have paid and they said that the first draw will be in April 2009.
i really have mixed feelings about this thing, i don't know what to believe anymore! is this thing legit or not? in her phone call, the woman said that they are approved by the government and act on their behalf.
any further output on this matter is highly appreciate it.
and much to what has been previously said, if this thing is a scam then i am willing to join other swindled victims in here in a class-action law suit against those people and take further action as we move forward.

Let me know guys.

Its sad that people continue to fall to this scams at this time and age.im shem kogi from Nairobi Kenya and i wish to categorically state that usafis does not exist and you will only participate in their programme at your own peril. To apply for green card you are NOT REQUIRED TO PAY ANY COIN.The green card is not issued by an organisation but by a department called US DEPARTMENT OF STATE.click for example dv-lottery 2010 or travel.state.gov if you realy want to apply for green cards.guys, dont be too desperate to leave your beloved countries and when the deal seems too sweet can you please take a second thought.

Hy guys! I totally agree with you both. It happened to me last evening, I accidentally oppened their application form via Facebook and did not proceed with the payment at that time. Couple of hours later, a very insistent woman with foreign accent had called me and she put pressure on me as well to do the payment. She did not asked me, but she started filling the application form for 4 years entry and because I did not have enough credit(luckily), only 1/3 of the money went through. I already blocked my credit card and no longer want to hear about this sort of business. So, please be careful...you should not reveal your credit card details to no one and do a bit of research on the internet before, also check out the Terms & Conditions. I don't hope for a refund, I just felt miserable for being so naive. USAFIS is a very suspicious company...

Security comes first. I have just received a call from New York ( I am in South Africa). A lady called me
wanting me to complete my lottery application via visa card. The first time she called, she spoke in
english, the second time, she talked in French (typical french accent). I am not really convinced to
give them my card information. Also, she put so much pressure on me that night, that she wanted me to
pay.Something is not clear. Is there anyone who has won this so called lottery out there?
If so, please inform us (inocent people) about the truth of this whole thing!

THIS IS A FRAUD! This is just a rip off, the company charges you money for doing NOTHING, SCAM SCAM SCAM BIG TIME! DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT provide them with your credit card number and DO NOT apply for any of your services. Your money will be gone before you know it. Please pass this message to EVERYBODY who is trying to apply for Green Card Lottery. It is better to do it through an OFFICIAL U.S. Government site, not this criminal business that USAFIS is. Please stay away from USAFIS web site and the whole company!

Look people, USAFIS is a SCAM! read number 4 at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diversity_Immigrant_Visa
as is previously posted. IT SAYS RIGHT THERE that the US government even warns that USAFIS is a scam.

The US cannot do anything to shut down the site because the site is based in ANOTHER COUNTRY. All they can do is warn people about the scam(which they do). ANY AND EVERY US GOVERNMENT WEBSITE ENDS IN .gov not .org, net, com, ANYTHING.

The DIV form IS FREE from the actual government site(I don't know it off the top of my head). No "lotto" that you pay for can garuntee you a visa, THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. Your entry, and length of stay in the USA is SOLEY DECIDED by US immigration. (INS)

Stop being fooled by these fraudsters (which will say and do ANYTHING to get your money). The money you wasted on the site could have paid for your plane ticket to the US. As long as you have a passport you can gain entry to the US rather easily for a 30 day vacation. Once here you can easily apply for extensions/a more permanent visa.

I can't believe, after 3 pages of people saying this is a scam that ANYONE would even think about joining the site (Prerana Joshi). Don't waste the money. There is no opportunity with USAFIS. Stop being lazy, and actually find the US IMMIGRATION website and look up how to gain access to the country. You will save yourself a lot of money, pain, and mental anguish.

USAFIS IS A SCAM!Of course they are going to say they aren't, because they want your money, but remember, the official US DIV website WARNS YOU that USAFIS is a SCAM. They tell you flat out that all the lottery sites for DIV are. ONLY TRUST .gov WEBSITES for any immigration concerns.

Send me an email if you have more questions, I will be glad to help you and make sure you don't get ripped off!

I m a young girl of 18 from Nepal.I have been receiving emails from USAFIS.In fact, i m trying to have my further studies in US and i'm going through the procedures like TOEFL, SAT n all...
I think this program can give me wide opportunities to work, study n adjust myself in US.
My parents have agreed that they can offer me money for this but i don't want the money to go in vain.Rather i can use the money for my student visa[if i m not guaranteed that involving myself in this lottery will pay off].That's why i would really be thankful to you people if you guide me whether i should go through this or not.

I have filled out online application for my family in Ethiopia, while I was in Europe
As soon as I completed the short version of the application form it asked for my Credit card number it gave a congratulation conformation. And then I was notified that I have farther to complete detail information about the persons I was applying for. After I filled out remaining information and trying to submitted the form, the message kept on telling me that I need to inter that of the same info that already interred.. After trying to submit this form for about an hour and wasn’t able to. I decide to email the agent.
By the way, I have printed out every steps of and Form that I filled out as it displayed..

I have emailed and explained the situation. I got a reply that said someone will get back to me soon. Then I received email from USAFIS that was not answering my question at all it rather talks about something else. No one answer my question, and the charges has gone through.
My family are getting make believe calls at odd hours all the way to Ethiopia, they have being disturbed and harassed, over and over. When they told me about it I have asked them to refer them to me by giving them my email although I knew this USAFIS has my email. Which they ignore to comply to my questions. Today, I received an email from my family that UAFIS called them to ask for Credit card, types: master card, diner club, American express, It’s number, security code, (locate the final3 digit number and expiration date of the card. Let me just ask this question, the charge has gone through two months ego, I have a receipt of that, why are they asking Credit cards numbers of my family or mine?
.
As I have spoken to a number of people especially Ethiopian community about this matter, I have found out that many were fooled into this USAFIS scam, paying with credit cards charging them wrongly and other with other and similar and stories..

I am outrage that a country like a USA, will let this company function legally using innocence people to be reaped off. This is not portraying a good image of US.

Although, the majority of the people are that gotten reaped off are not a US Citizens, or do not reside in US. However there are a lot of us that are US citizen that experience this mischief because of or for our family members. Therefore we should file a action law suits against this wrong doers immediately! .We will also have a good coverage of this news guaranty.

Everyone, please gather all your proves, if your family has been harassed and disturbed, inform them to record the conversations and phone calls. Please post your email to this web site as for now I do not want to be identify be my email so. Phone calls and conversations has been recorded so far when they called overseas demanding credit cards pin more information.
Spreading “ you are going to go “ is their strategy to having other to sign up and give credit card so please do not be fooled ever. Spread the word to all you know to give a credit card to business that has to do with US lotarry or DV even under different . It you need a DV Form ask your nearest US embassy afriend forom the State of a family member to forward you one.. I was fooled because of my laziness, I am sure I will get my money back. I hope you do the same.
It is ironic recently, there was fraud charge in my account that took a place somewhere I have never been. Could it be linked to this agent having my CC and secure number? I will let you know if that was so. Email just your name, location, your story in short, how much you were reaped off, I will send you steps of things we have to do and who we have to contact.

Is this green card lottery real. I received a call from a woman in New York she gave me the name "Jane Parker". If you don't know by now "Jane Parker" is a fictional character from the move "Spider Man". She tried to convince me to give her my credit card information over the phone this was the only thing needed inorder to complete my form so as to qualifiy for the lottery. Someting about her lack of answering my quetions with sincerity, coupled with her instructing me to pay in Euro dollars even though the lottery is to live/work in the United States made her and the organization she claimed to represent very questionable. She also gave me a number which conveniently is not the number she call me from, because her number was a secured line. So her contact number would not directly contact me to her. Hopefully a true representative for this green card lottery will be able to contact me and give me some insight as to who "Jane Parker" and her "organization" trully are.
Hey "Jane" if you do get a chance to read this make a mental note. People in third world countries don't spend the entire day swinging from tree to tree. Some of us do swing to internet ever now and again.
