Unwanted text messages

I receive a text message each day with a joke. I reply asking not to receive this and to remove me from the list. I receive a response saying that they cannot respond to my command. I want off this list and am unable to get removed. WHAT MUST I DO TO STOP THE TEXT MESSAGES FROM COMING??
