UniFirst - terrible at everything

Before we even started service, they couldn't get anything right. That's how sad this industry is, especially when a company can mess up every step of the sales process and still win the bid.

I'll try to make it short and to the point. It took 7 or more tries to get our emblem right. They used "used" clothing to fit us and ended up having to replace half our clothes because they weren't the correct size. Then they kept trying to charge us for the clothes they were replacing (The driver had to keep correcting the bill for weeks in a row). Now our shirts are coming back destroyed with grease stains and they smell like it too. They say they will replace any shirts that are ruined, but in reality, it's all of them. The shirts we have now (After only a couple months of service) look worse than our old shirts do after 7 years of dry cleaner service. As a result of this shirt fiasco, our drivers are forced to wear disgusting, smelly shirts until they are replaced, and we are extremely unhappy about that.

The district manager doesn't want anything to do with us. He personally gave me his card after the first batch of shirts had to be replaced and said if we had any problems to contact him. He won't return my phone calls or emails now. They like to push all of the burden onto the driver. Well, this isn't a driver issue. Our driver seems to be working hard to fix the problems, but there doesn't seem to be any quality control. Why on earth are shirts this bad even being delivered? Can't the person putting shirts on hangers see how bad these shirts are?

In an attempt to resolve the billing issues, we've repeatedly asked for monthly billing. After my last complaint to the District service manager, I received a phone call telling me that the monthly billing requested will finally be honored after only 7 months of trying. It should also be noted that the billing is so screwed up and confusing that Accounts Receivable cannot figure it out. Between all of the mischarges and contesting them and credits and not being billed certain weeks because they've screwed up so badly, the books are so far gone that our President has already spent hours trying to figure it out. Apparently they don't apply the payments to the correct invoices. If there is an uncaught error or a simple missed payment, it throws it all out of wack because they just apply the payment to the oldest invoices, even if the amount doesn't match.

What else can Unifirst screw up? No really! Tell me so I can address it now and avoid even more headaches! This is PATHETIC!

Another update to this utterly pathetic company...
The clothes are coming back ok, but the extra charges on the invoices are ridiculous. The driver is always having to cross off extras, and it has gotten out of hand. They still haven't set us up on monthly invoices, even though the salesman said it was doable. We have called several times about it and it still hasn't been addressed. I am back to contacting the district manager, and we are forced to argue with the driver every week. We aren't even allowed to sign invoices anymore unless they are the proper amount. Unifirst is a train wreck. They have failed EVERY step of the way.

I've contacted corporate directly through email, who didn't respond to me, and merely shoved my complaint back to the district service manager about a month ago. Since then, it was found that our clothes were being washed with the wrong clothes (We already knew that). The district service manager has done everything in his power to restore faith in the service and get our shirts looking normal. We'll see what happens when he stops inspecting the clothes. This is a repeat of Cintas (actually worse), and everything that has happened or will happen is apparently only obvious to us. So please, tell us more about how serious your customer service is. We'll be here laughing and crying for the next 2.5 years...

Until then, here is some advice that I am SURE will be taken with the upmost seriousness...

1. Wash the executive shirts separate from the grease monkey shirts. Not sure the difference? Read the tags! Executive shirts like ours soak up the junk in the water. Especially grease! Our shirts that weren't replaced yet still smell like grease after 3 weeks of "special wash". They look much better, but the smell stayed. They are also very faded now.

2. Have whoever is putting clothes on hangers look at the product. Is it stained? If so, don't send it! Order a new one ASAP if the stain can't be removed! Unless Unifirst would like to provide more "spare" uniforms in rotation, then you have to keep up with the shortages.

Just by following those 2 steps, this entire problem could have been avoided. Also, if you cannot provide this kind of service with the current pricing, I am confident that there are countless businesses willing to pay more for a decent uniform service. Do you know of any?

I had pictures attached, but I took them down because they are EXTREMELY damaging to the company and I do not want to create a harmful environment with Unifirst while we are waiting for our problems to be fixed. We signed a 3 year contract, and I will be holding their feet to the fire for it's entirety. While every company has it's problems, and Unifirst hasn't performed anywhere near satisfactory, I am hoping that our problems can help them improve their operations to prevent it from happening again.

It wouldn't let me edit to give an update, so here is one. Another week went by and clothes are still being ruined. They are cleaning executive shirts with the grease monkeys' shirts and the grease is sticking to ours. It just took this long to realize that apparently. (I mentioned it since its the same mistake EVERYONE seems to make. *cough* CINTAS cough*) No one seems to be checking the shirts as they get put up on hangers. My suggestion to anyone foolish enough to deal with a uniform company is to use clothing that doesn't stain so easily. More polyester and less cotton? It's a sad reality that Uniform companies are only about profit. If they truly cared about the product leaving their facility, we would never see these shirts come back to us so horrible.

After a lot of work on their end, they were able to right every wrong and get our account on track. No more mistakes. I'm glad they got their act together. I hate leaving bad reviews, but someone has to do it when things are out of hand. I'm curious to watch their episode of Undercover Bosses.
