Unfair policies and min. payments
Complaint Rating: 100 % with 4 votes
My father-in-law gave my wife a credit card while she was in college and before we met. We're in the process of paying it off. I've made over 10 payments on this card that these sacks of crap at FIA Card Services charge interest on which is apparently KILLING me!!! So far, all those payments have done is they've knocked down the total payment by about $250. Each min. payment is over $100. These people are stealing us blind!

On top of that, I've noticed that they just "decide" to bump your min. payment up by $50 or whatever they want and they claim that it all depends on the days in your cycle. That's BS because one period (Feb.) had less days and the min. payment was actually greater than the previous period that more days (Mar.).

Another thing is that their ridiculous policy doesn't let you get ANY information if you're not on the account, even common sense stuff. Like for example, one month I didn't receive my bill that I've been receiving at my current address for the last 4 months, and when I called to simply inquire on it, they said that they couldn't give me that info. How stupid are they! You can't tell why I'm not getting a bill when it's BEEN coming to me for the last several months? What kind of dangerous info could be leaked if they told me? It makes no sense to me, but maybe I'm missing some information. Anyway, it's all too frustrating and they totally want to ***. I wish there was a way to cripple this company.

I have been an MBNA credit card customer for over 25 years. Somewhere along the way, my multiple cards were merged into one card with a $52, 700 credit limit. At some point the MBNA card became World Points and now FIA (whatever that stands for). My interest rate has crept-up to 14.9% with a minimum payment of under $400. The outstanding balance is $35, 000. All of a sudden my interest rate jumped to 19.9% and the minimum payment to just under $1, 000. I called to get some clarification, ended-up in the Retention Dept. (there's a joke in the name of that department). They claimed to have issued an "Op-Out" letter, which offered comtinuation of the 14.9% but the account would be closed. Or, 19.9%. Since I was stupid enough to call them, they now said that I could either take the 14.9% Op-Out or continue at 19.9% with my credit line capped at $37, 000. Basically, had I not called them, I would still have $17, 000 available credit instead of $2, 000. The thing I don't understand is that my relationship with FIA and all of my creditors is excellent. My credit score is 785. I've never been late nor have I ever paid as little as the minimum payment. FIA uses cockeyed logic that raises the rate for those who they determine to be a risk to their "bank". What they don't seem to understand is that by raising the rate, their customers will then be pushed even closer to bankruptcy and their bank will never see payments for the outstanding balance. I even pointed-out to them that my real bank credit card holders (CITI and Chase) each have comparable funds loaned-out to me on their cards with interest rates of 4.5% and 6.5% respectible.

These FIA people are totally out-of-touch with reality and aparently shills for the republican congress that caved to the credit card companies who whined to them a few years ago.

This company is very bad for the US economy and I hope they are investigated, fined and put out of business.
