My stepdad is 80 years old and has just been admitted into a nursing home.My mother is 77.I live in Texas, they live in Oklahoma. I have been working with DHS on getting them more benifits when we were told by a representative of Pyramid Ins.that a policy they had purchased had been cancelled "as of February". I found this odd since my mom had just recieved a statement dated 06/19/08 from them saying that they were not able to deduct premiums directly from their social security checks and would be billed directly. My mom recieved a bill for the 2 policies at $70 each dated 06/24/08 and went to the bank to have one of the ladies help her make out a check. After getting back to Dallas I called Pyramid Ins. and spoke to one of their reps. I forund out that they had indeed been cancelled 2 months after inrollment however what i finally got out of the rep was that it was in 2007. I coundn't believe it. When I asked why she would recieve a letter abd statement like this 18 months after cancellation i was told that they were computer generated. What a load of crap. My mom walks slowly with a cane and has a bad knee. it is very hard for her to get around. When she recieved this ststement she thought that she really owed the money and went to the bank to pay it. My stepdad used to pay all the bills and she had no idea.
This company is ran very unprofessionally. It is also very interesting that there was no communication with my parents for 18 months and 20 days after my step dad goes into a nursing home they shao up giving the indication to my mom that this was an active account.
