Fidus Group - Roof installation

BEWARE of Fidus Roofing =Botched looking roofs! This is my experience with this company. Fact 1.) Large truck ruts left in my yard from Fidus Roofing causing possible damage to my sewer and water lines. I was told the roof shingles would arrive Thursday, October 8th and be placed on the roof, using my driveway then the refuse container would be delivered Friday, October 9th to the driveway, the theory behind this logic was to prevent damage to my yard. The reality was the garbage container was delivered Thursday the 8th and the shingles were brought in Friday the 9th afternoon, the delivery truck that Fidus hired drove all over my yard leaving very large ruts and damage to my property. Is this the professional service that Fidus gives to all of their customers? I dare say if I were to take a huge multi-ton truck to the owner Mr. Suplee’s yard and drive all over it, he wouldn’t appreciate this kind of service. Fact 2.) White caulk was smeared all over my roof in the chimney area. Now maybe this is appropriate for a white roof, but I purchased a dark grey roof and my bricks are dark red. Imagine my surprise to look up and see white mess smeared all over my brick at the chimney line. I asked my neighbor, the city inspector, the person who passed off this roof about this. He stated to me, the roof fulfilled basic city requirements, the area was caulked. Once again, would a reasonable person object to this unprofessional, inferior workmanship? Yes, I think if I can stand in my yard and see copious amounts of white mess smeared all over my chimney at the roof line, I should and did object. I should be grateful that the area was caulked, to prevent leaks, but should I have expected a company to do their job they were hired to do in a professional capacity? For example use clear or dark colored caulk on dark colored roofs. Has this been done to other customers of Fidus? Fact 3.) The right front shingles appear to be misaligned. I can stand at the road and it is obvious that the front shingles were installed in a bizarre fashion. The rest of the roof looks good, but this particular area looks completely botched. I was told by Walter, Fidus’s supervisor “it’s your roof”, wow that is such a great statement. I asked why the decking wasn’t replaced and the area made to look better, I would have gladly consented. After all I am paying over , for a whole new roof on a 1400 square foot house, a couple of hundred or a thousand more would have been acceptable to me. The reason the roof looks “wavy” that is the term Mr. Suplee uses in this description is that my house is a 1940’s bungalow, it is old. Excuse me I can look around at all the other houses in my neighborhood, all of which are the same age and their roofs are not “WAVY”. I then stated to Mr. Suplee if the roof deck was rotten it was supposed to be replaced, why was I not asked and informed about this during roof installation and given a choice. His statement “to fix this entire roof would have been expensive.” Ok folks my husband and I paid cash for this house, I just purchased a brand new Infinity, I think I could have purchased new decking for my , 500 roof, my house is 1400 square foot. A professional company would have asked and told me during construction there was a problem! Fact 4.) The day of installation of my new roof was an eventful one. It started by the supervisor at the site “Walter” telling me numerous false statements. I can actually state I was told out and out LIES at this point. He told me “we could have 15 guys today and your roof will be done by 2pm”. I was ecstatic! To think my new roof would be done that fast with so many workers. Well here comes the reality, 3 workers showed up around noon, a 4th person arrived later. I was then told by Walter “this roof will be done by 6pm.” Well as the day wore on and after I saw a multi-ton truck pull onto my yard to deliver shingles, damaging my property, I knew this was going poorly. I called Fidus Roofing and reported the bizarre circumstances. Was my call taken seriously? NO, it was not, no one came to check on the ridiculous situation developing. I then received what I believe is a type of threat because I was complaining. “Walter” began to tell me how he never raises his voice or loses his temper, he just gets people back. That revenge is his “thing.” I left and went home after that conversation, with a second complaint call to Fidus Roofing. I then received a call from “Walter” asking me why I hated him and begged me not to get him fired. I never once have asked for anyone to be fired, period. I do not want trouble and frankly I do not want Fidus roofing or any of their employees or former employees to come near my home. My husband and I are both handicapped, we do not want problems. That is why we paid Fidus Roofing their full wage owed, I am hoping this letter will spur changes that are positive and better care will be taken in the quality of the workmanship at Fidus Roofing. I will say this for Fidus, after I objected Fidus did return to throw sand in the yard ruts and smeared black caulk all over the white caulk at the chimney. Fidus did offer to rip off the front section of the roof and redo the obviously misaligned shingles. Folks after this experience I have to ask, WOULD YOU allow this company to return to your home and perform any more work? Gee I’m so lucky to have to spend my time telling this roofing company how they should fix their inferior botched looking roof and I have had to pay for such inferior service. I have asked the BBB in Jacksonville, Fl. to allow my complaint to stand and be a warning to other people who are looking to hire Fidus Roofing. I have been duped out of a large sum of money, and now have a botched looking roof. I want to warn others about this unscrupulous company so they won’t have to endure the time draining upset that I have had to go through. The BBB has done nothing but send me personal insults from Mr. Suplee the owner. Beware of this company and the unscrupulous owner.
