I have been writing checks for 25 years and never had a bounced check or any other problems. Today I wrote a check at Walmart, which I have done probably hundreds of times before, and my check was denied. I totally humilitated in front of a long line of customers and my own mother. The cashier gave me a little slip of paper with a 1 800# on it which I called as soon as I got home. I was told that the reason I was denied was because I had written several checks in the last few days. So what? What business of that is theirs if I have the funds to cover my purchases? I thought that was the purpose of scanning the checks in the first place- to make sure you had the funds to cover it. Now I am paranoid about writing a check anywhere!

I just went to Walmart and tried to EXCHANGE jeans my son got for Christmas. They scanned my ID and said they couldn't do the exchange because I have "checks on file"! I received a slip of paper with an 800 number on it. When I contacted Telecheck they ran my ID number and said there was nothing in their system! I am unable to write checks anywhere they have Telecheck, unable to return or exchange items at Walmart, and unable to cash any type of check at Walmart! And for no good reason! Neither Telecheck or Walmart will do anything to fix this!

Banking with my bank for 25 years+. Wrote checks at Walmart for most of those years. Never had a problem until today... plenty of funds available... no reason for a decline. Made my payment with another means and immediately called the 1-800 number. Got suspicious when they asked me for my checking account information after I spent 10 minutes typing the number correctly in my phone. I refused to give them any more than the last 4 of my SSN and flat out refused to give my license number. The line of questioning was suspect as well. None of which had anything to do with why I was declined. I totally agree... sounds like an ID Theft scam!

On June 2, 2011-- I wrote a small check to Wal-Mart, and my check was denied. The manager gave me this 800# in Houston, TX. which I called when I returned home. When I dial the phone number I was directed to type in my bank routing #, my checking account# my telephone # and then this machine asked for my Social Security #, when I declined to give out my SSN # some man came on the phone and I argued with him for 20 minutes. He said it was code 02--then code 04 that denied my check to Wal-Mart.
I personally think this is some kind of ID Theft and I will report this to the Colorado State Attorney General and let the Federal government handle it. Also I will never write another check to Wal Mart!

This happened to me too. I was in a local Wal-Mart and my check was denied. I called the number and they told me I was linked to an account out of my home state. I don't have any such accounts. Telecheck assured my that my name was cleared and that when I wrote another check there wouldn't be any problem. Well, guess what. They lied to me. I tried to write a check 6 days later and was denied again. I called telecheck and chewed out their CSR. If this happens again, I will boycott stores that use telecheck and I will encourage all my freidns to do the same.

THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME TODAY! and I was embarresed in front of a line (long line may I ad) luckily I had cash to cover purchase but to be humuliated in front of all these people about my check is no good, not to mention the fear of going to next store to finish shopping.

knreeves,

The problem is the way it is handled by the associates. Often the check writer is made to feel like some sort of criminal. Everyone knows what this announcement means: "Assistance to register 2" etc...does an announcement really need to be made? Why not pick up the phone (they used to have them) and call a manager that way?
Also, does everyone need to talk so loud when discussing it? It is a huge display when a check is declined and that is where the complaint against your store would come in with me. Handle my personal business discreetly and we would not have a problem.

It's not Wal-Marts' fault. Blame Telecheck. The store I work at also has Telecheck. Just recently, a man's check was denied and he chewed me out. I told him it wasn't my fault and that he should call the number provided. He made me feel little. Now, I know he was embarrassed but he shouldn't have taken it out on me or my store. My store, Wal-Mart, nor I decide if your check is approved or not, so please, don't write a complaint on us.

DITO, DITO, DITO...My story takes place at Aeropostle buying clothes for my 2 children's summer camp with 9 other sets of parents from school. As we check out I to my horror find I have only my checkbook and D.L. no credit cards. No problem I thought I have never bounced a check and there's plenty of money in my bank acc. After the check out line gets stalled they try the check twice and give me a slip with an 800# and trans act #. The other parents now think I am no doubt a criminal of the first order. After speaking with a person in Manilla for 30+ min. the best he can do is tell me there was no derogatory information in my file but my transaction fell outside their guidelines? WTF Well the next morning I go straight to Wells Fargo and me and my banker sit down in his office and get the speaker phone going. After speaking with his home office in S.F. Calif. that told him I have a A+ rating with them for the past 14 years he calls telecheck. Sadly he gives them total hell for 10 or so min.s but the best he can get is again my transaction fell outside their guidelines. We were told no one could tell us what specific guideline I violated but just referred us to a P.O. Box in Houston, Tx. Telecheck is what we always feared computers and automation would one day do and that day is here.

This happened to me today..total humiliated. I called TeleCheck and was told they needed to verify my address and phone number. I asked why since all but the phone number was listed on my drivers license. I'm not sure what they have going on but all the complaints i have seen all happened at Wal-Mart...curious.

I had this happen to me at a WalMart in KY. It was the most humiliating thing ever! People looking at you like you're some sort of criminal. It's absolutely wrong!
