On 2011/03/19 in the afternoon I had a virus/trojan notification on my laptop which would not allow me to access the internet on my computer or delete any files such as SYSTEM TOOLS. The computer would only allow access to this SYSTEM TOOLS website that asked to purchase an antivirus program to fix my laptop. I fell for the SCAM as it appeared legit. I was billed $79.95 for a lifetime product but when I was emailed the product key to be entered it stated that it was invalid. The product key was copied and pasted as indicated but it would still not work. I contacted the customer support number 1-800-417-5679 and spoke to a representative who did not ask for any information to verify my purchase or identity. He did not even ask for the transaction id number, but only asked for my email address as he would send me another product key. I did not receive any email from him whatsoever. I used my desktop and went online and requested a new product key from the website "http://systemtoolonline.com". I was emailed another product key WHICH AGAIN DID NOT WORK, and continues to state that it is an invalid key. I again contacted customer service who advised me that I could be typing it in wrong. I asked for a physical address of the company and the representative began to stall on the phone. The representative began giving me a so called address which did not start with a number, but then when asked which city and province or state he was in he began to stall and change the subject. I advised him that I believed this was a scam and would be reporting it to my credit card company. I also asked for a postal code or ZIP code however he would not provide it. I then asked for a refund which he stated that he would refund my credit card at that time. The conversation then became heated as I advised him that he was scamming me and not providing a service. The representative then hung up the phone on me as he was raising his voice. My credit card company was advised however I have to call back in 2 business days to file a complaint. My concern is that multiple fraudulent transactions may be made on my card during this time.

I had the identical experience this week and will now, hopefully, remove the program. Don't know if it's done any harm or how it got on in the first place.
I've filed a complaint with my Credit Card and they are looking into it. I've told them I will not pay the charge. I didn't contact and see no reason to. John's experience is sufficient.

I had the same experience last night. I called my bank and had my debit card cancelled and reissued. John and Lee, has this been resolved for you as well? Did you receive your money back? Unfortunately I used a debit card rather than a credit card so the 79.99 has already been taken out of my account.

I had the same experience yesterday (April 30th), called the same number and got the refund. I still went ahead and cancel my card.

I google'd the phone number and found this forum - seems like this happened to you guys about a month before. Just wondering if there's any follow up stories?

I was able to get them to undo my charge of 79.99. But I also felt the need to cancel my debit card just in case. I've been informed by my IT friends that if this happens in the future (your pc says it's infected and cannot go to any site but this scamming site), if you just shut down and re-start in safe mode, you can then run your AV and clean it up (for free!!)

had the same thing happen yesterday. had to take our brand new Mac to the apple store and have the software removed as it wouldn't let us remove it. The Apple store had never heard of it, & the genius told us we had to have downloaded something to get this...we said, no we didn't..it just appears on the top right near your volume controls and makes you think you have a virus or more than one. I called the 800 # and the guy who answered (Jack) who sounds like he's from the middle east, said we would get the refund and gave me a confirmation#. We'll see!! Lesson learned!! We did close our debit cards down, but they also have our address etc. I'll be checking my credit for fraudulent activity for a while.

I went onto the apple forum and found out a lot of people got hit over the weekend. i was relieved that i got my money back. but i'm still a little annoyed that something has been downloaded onto my macbook without my permission. it's been removed, but i have no idea what kind of info they have retrieved from me...

the person who answered my call was a lady ... with some kind of russian accent...

OMG!! i had this happen to me. The one good thing i did was that i used a pre-paid card cause i was scared to use mine. The program even worked for a couple of days before it disappeared.

This also happened to me, it took me a little time to realize it was a scam (I noticed a charge of $100.12 on my credit card bill to a website I did not purchase
form).I saved the E-mail to this bill and cannot link up to any of the supports.
