SmartStyle never again

I stopped into Smart Style on Beville Road, in Daytona Beach, FL to have my hair trimmed, signed in and stood, (no seats to sit down), waiting while stylist continued a personal phone call on her cell phone for approx. 3 minutes. She finished her call, never smiled just asked "what can I do for you", I told her I would like a shampoo & cut. She says I'll be with you soon and she proceeded to brush hairs out of a clipper, never smiling, never conversing with me, not offering me a seat to sit so I continued to stand while she did unnecessary things around salon. Sign in book showed there had not been a customer there since 12:30pm and I was there at 2:20pm. I assumed customer satisfaction was not a priority to her and told her I would pass and left. She yelled at me as I was walking out that "I have things to do". Never again will I subject myself to such rude behavior.

SmartStyle salons blow dry rip-off

I went in to Smart Style in Spencer, Iowa for a simple 12.95 haircut, which I've been getting there for more than 2 years. After the stylist, Diana, trimmed my hair, which took no more than 8 minutes, she started blow drying my hair. I didn't think anything about it. I didn't ASK her to blow dry my hair, she didn't ask me if I wanted it dried, and she certainly didn't tell me it would cost extra for this. But this time, when I went to pay my bill, it was $17.05. I asked why it was so much. She informed me that it was extra to blow-dry my hair. In the 2 years I've been going there this has never happened before, and it was very sneaky of her to pad the bill that way. I paid it, but wish now I'd made my complaint on the spot.

SmartStyle no customer service

i went to smartstyle inside walmart to get my hair cut when i walked up to the counter there was a hand written sign taped up that said "at lunch" so i sat down to wait patiently with my son there was no one else waiting we seen people walk by look in see the sign and walk away the stylist was sitting in the back room i know this because a couple came in and went to the back to visit her. i waited twenty minutes when she came out of the back room from her lunch break she clearly seen me sitting there but when she walked up to the counter to remove the sign a gentleman just walked up i heard her say have a seat in this first chair i obviously thought she was talking to me when i walked over to her i seen she was ready to start cutting his hair i was very surprised she did that, she told me rudely its going to be fifteen or twenty minutes i went back to sit and wait i asked my son did you see what just happened? he said yes. when i was next to have my haircut i told her i waited twenty minutes before you came back from lunch you seen me sitting there so why did you serve that customer first who just walked up? she said oh i told him to come in at 6:30 i said no you didn't because he was one of customers who had walked by and seen your at lunch sign and walked away earlier, besides i told her i called here to make an appointment but you said you didn't take appointments just walk in so now your telling me he had an appointment? she knew she was clearly lying and rudely said do you want a haircut or not, i said yes i do. i asked her to give me her managers name and get this! she said i am the manager my name is Gabrielle. wow i couldn't believe it if she was a manager how could she treat her customers like that, i told her well i'm sure i'm not the first one to complain if you only have one stylist working and your going to be at lunch and its first come first serve then why don't you have a log so the customers can write their name down and we wouldn't have to go through this and jump to conclusions its done in other salons, she said she wasn't allowed to have a log but at the same time she pulled one out wrote my name down and the time that did not make any sense at all i said you could have acted more professional about handling this situation she said she has fired stylist for picking and choosing over customers if thats the case then she needs to be fired herself. i will not go back to have my haircut there again and as for my over all conclusion i was obviously passed over for another customer and treated badly, i couldn't understand why at first because iv never met Gabrielle before and i was in no way being rude to her so the only reason for this treatment is discrimination of race. theres something really wrong with that place i believe no one deserves to be treated like that.

I am so sorry you had such a bad experience, and I work at a Smart Style myself and first of all she should have put a time on the note stating what time she would return and for her to walk out of the back room and not even ackowlege you and your son is a big no no, its not only rude, disrespectful but very unethical. There is a sign in sheet for customers to sign in their names and yes it is first come first serve, so if the gentleman's name was not written down first than you should of been next and not him. The way she treated you was not right and she should of apologized for it.

SmartStyle terribly burning scalp/ horrible foil job

On Feb 26/11 I decided to treat myself to a nice set of blond highlights throughout my head. My husband worked some overtime just for this occasion and I have a family reunion in 2 weeks time. Since the stylist I normally see wasn't available I made the poor choice to visit SmartStyle in Walmart #292 Painted Post. I specifically asked for a stylist who was an "expert at doing highlights". I was told I would be seen by such a person. After I was asked to sign a form to "allow them to do a color treatment on me" the beautician whisked away the "form" aka waiver while I was asking questions about it and I was never given a copy. I am not even sure what it entirely said--when I asked about it she asked for it back from me, took it from me, and said "oh don't worry about it, it isn't important". I should have run away at that point.
So I sit down. I show her what I would like--somewhere between a pretty strawberry blond and a nice natural light blond--not white but NOT brassy orange (like it turned out). She asks her fellow co-worker for advice as how to "mix the colors properly" She starts at the back of my head and I feel the cold, strong smelling bleach on my scalp--I have NEVER felt highlighting product ON my scalp before--this sensation continued over sections of my entire scalp. I don't want to say anything or embarrass the beautician so I sit there, nervous. I noticed the usual "weaving" of the comb/foil tool isn't happening as I am used to, also making me nervous, but again I don't want to cause a scene. She is taking larger sections of hair parting it and highlighting whole patches--not what I have ever experienced, but again, I think "maybe she has her own technique?" Then I lean my head WAAAAY back at her request (which was very uncomfortable) so she can finally finish the top & sets the timer for 30 mins.
By this point the back of my head where she started is itching and burning but I don't want to make a scene so I sit and endure it. I realize now I should have spoken up. The lady next to me noticed my discomfort and we both begin to look for my stylist. She isn't there. "Maybe she is in the back", she says? So, after 30 mins I am ready to cry and finally she reappears and washes the stuff out and offers a $3 conditioner (heck yes please stop the burning!) which she takes about 10 seconds to apply and immediately rinses it out--so much for the 1-2 minute treatment I am paying for! Unfortunately she didn't rinse the chemical processor or the conditioner off since I had some white processing bleach particles still in the front of my hair and a large patch of sticky conditioner (?) in the back right hand side of my head. After a blowdry I see orange brassy uneven highlights and I feel like crying but I pay her anyways as not to embarrass her and even pay a tip to be polite (which she looked annoyed that it wasn't MORE!).
I go home and show my husband who wondered what they had done other than give me an orange highlighted bright pink scalp? We took pictures of it. I washed my hair (since it was sticky) and put some conditioner on and slept with a bag of frozen peas on my head to stop the burning. While the pinkness of my scalp subsided some, the searing hot lava burning sensation did not and I visited the local ER in the morning for a large dose of steroids and was told to come back if it didn't subside. I went back to the salon and asked if the manager would come and rectify this terrible situation immediately. I did not yell, I did not call names, I was obviously upset and on the verge of breaking down into tears after being in pain for the last 20 hours and being told "call the 1-800 line and you will get a refund we can't do anything for you". I ask for some treatment--ANYTHING--to stop this burning. Nothing. My husband calls them and was told that his wife was "nasty" to them. He was disgusted and demanded a full refund of we'd call an injury attorney--his wife had every right to be UPSET after just returning from a trip to the ER! I did receive a refund after he called them but I had to go home and apply my own aloe vera gel. It has been 25 hours and my scalp is in searing pain. I have no rash, no sign of an allergic reaction (as one of the unhelpful stylists tried to imply and even suggested it was "normal" to apply bleach directly to the scalp!) but I do have obvious patches of my scalp which have been processed (bright orange blond) and patches of hair where the foils bled under leaving patches of orange brassy chunks. NO decent stylist would EVER suggest that bleach for foils should EVER be applied directly to the scalp. Even on home hair dye kits it states "DO NOT APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE SCALP"! No kidding?--Do you think it might BURN? Hmmm...
So bottom line---NO pretty strawberry light blond highlights here--I look like a brassy ugly orange vomitted in patches on my skull--and it feels like I have been branded in those patches with hot lava--WORST FOIL JOB EVER! I will NEVER ever go back there. No wonder they make you sign a waiver--BUYER BEWARE!
I added photos unfortunately the flash washed out the pinkness of my burning scalp, but it is there, and hurts like crazy! One thing to note, the highlights do not go all the way down my hair but I do have vertical "bands" of brassy orange blond, so now I have to go to another salon and have it corrected (when the burning finally stops) so I don't have an unsightly band of brassy orange as it grows out. ALL my previous foil jobs (and I have had all positive ones until now) have had an obvious section of "natural" hair where the scalp was not bleached or touched by the product. Not so this time!

Oh here's another photo my husband took of the back of my head--notice the bleached areas on my scalp and no where else--yeah that's where it still BURNS--almost 48hours later!
I'm wishing I would have refrained from politeness and told her to get my head in a bucket of ice water--stat! Seriously, if it feels like your head is on fire--chances are pretty good it is. Run like hell to the nearest wash station and get your head in there! I'm in pain, I'm angry, I need to vent.

Note: I mentioned in my complaint I had "vertical" bands of brassy orange but I intended to say horizontal bands where the bleach bled through...even one of the stylists at the shop noted that the foils "don't continue all the way down your hair as they should". The "vertical sections are only at the first 2-3" from my scalp downwards. Please lady, do a color refresher--it will help your technique greatly!

Sorry to hear that. You can use a purple shampoo like shimmering lights by clairol to get the brassiness out. Make sure to follow the directions or tone it with a ash base (blue, violet, or sometimes green) to cancel out the brassiness. If you live by Sally's or beauty supply you can go in and have them help you find a toner. Don't be afraid to speak up if you are in pain. That stylist sounds like the one I had where she didn't wash everything out and conditioned it for less than one minute. Oh well there goes their business to both of those crappy stylist. Hope everything works out.

SmartStyle time, outcome, unprofessional!

I went in to get a cut, color and eye brow wax. The girl that took care of me said it would take approx. 2 hours. I was there for 5 freakin hours! Then, my hair didn't look anything like what I wanted! It was almost an orange color on top! I told her I was not happy with it a couple days later, and she offered to redo it, but said it would take another couple hrs., as she had to basically do the same thing again. No thanks! Not sitting there another 5 hours! In addition, I have never had an eye brow wax like this girl did it either. There was very little actual waxing, and alot of plucking! Which I could have done myself! She also did not apply pressure after ripping off the wax. It was really rediculous, and the whole thing cost me $140.00. I will not go back and would not recommend!

SmartStyle haircut

I went to Shawano because I had alot of dead and damaged ends. I told the hair dresser to cut my hair and I realized that 5 or 6 inches would be cut off. I told the hairdresser to cut it all one length and she could go a little shorter if need be. I was very specific and the young lady cutting my hair said I'm just going to techturize it and took a razor and made this swipe down the back of my hair. When I got home I looked in the mirror and my hair is layered starting at the middle of my head in the back. I was explicite in telling her what I wanted and she just did what she wanted. I am very upset and I realize it will grow but it shouldn't have to. Why can't you hire hairdressers that listen.

SmartStyle carol, manager and stylist

I had used Carol, the manager of the hair salon for a color and style and was satisfied. On 1/7/11, I signed in at around 10:00am and ended up waiting well over and hour and a half before she started a spiral perm for my fine hair that would be wash and wear (she said). I was left sitting with a wet head freezing as the room was cold and so was the permanent solution she put on my hair. It was miserable as I sat at the shampoo bowl for close to one hour freezing and uncomfortable. I saw an advertisement and looked on the charge chart at the front and it said perms included styling. Carol did not want to style it but did and I had to go into a fitting room to comb it out it looked so awful. Oh, and listen to this! I did not get out of the salon until it was dark here close to 5pm. I spent an entire day having my hair ruined and had to pay for it! The perm was not curly but my hair was dry, brittle and straight. She had taken numerous personal phone calls and one from her "big boss" regarding another client complaining of discrimination. I was sitting there thinking that this hair salon needed an overhauling! My hair has been overprocessed and I went back in to see Carol on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 to see what she could do to fix my damaged hair. She conditioned it and said she would trim it but cut a lot of my hair off. It is still a mess and two of my friends who are licensed hairdressers told me the product was either bad or it was overprocessed and now I would have to get even more cut off and get monthly deep conditioning until my hair grows out! Carol argued with me and told me that the fact that my hair looks terrible and I cannot do anything with it "is all in my head." I want my money back and compensation for my damaged hair. When I went back in Carol was rude, did not offer me any of my money back and would not admit what was obvious. She messed up! She also took personal calls while waiting on me. I am telling everyone I know how bad Smartstyle in Michigan City, IN is and will never patronize the place again!

SmartStyle ignored because I am hispanic

I would like to file a complaint against this company. Today I went to get a haircut -got there at 5:05PM & they close at 6:00PM (new year's eve). I set there for over an hour waiting & waiting. I was being complete ignored while everybody else was tended to. I was overlooked by someone whom had just walked in but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. After both ladies were done with their customers, they were at the register counting money and b...sing. The younger one was right next to me sweeping but after waiting for over an hour I stood up & put my coat on - still the young one right next to me still ignoring me. I finally left because they made me feel like they were ignoring me because I was hispanic. I started shopping at Walmart but the more I thought about it the angrier I became so I went back & told the older one that I waited over 1 hr.& was just ignored...she said sorry. I believe they wanted me to leave. I will never go back. I will be filing a lawsuit.

Working for this company was a complete nightmare. The store manager was incompetent and an extreme kowtower. She constantly criticized my work, while lacking certain technical skills herself. The pay was atrocious, and totally not even worth staying with the company for. Beyond the store manager, the district manager was never reachable, so therefore unavailable for questions which the store manager could not answer. After asking the district manager numerous times via voicemail to E-mail my vocational rehab counselor so that I could have clothes and shoes to work in, she never did. She called the store one day with an extreme attitude, and after telling her that I was feeling attacked and didn't want to work for the company because I felt like nothing was being done regarding my vocational rehab, she told me to clock out pack my things and leave. She is a very horrible person who should not be in the position that she is in. But I know a higher power is at work, and what goes around comes around. So I know that both the store and district manager will get theirs in the end

When I called the salon the woman working there was from the beginning not polite. I asked her 2 simple questions, how busy are you and can I come in at any time to get my hair dyed. After 30 seconds I was so frustrated, and ended just forget it. I ended up going in the salon anyway because my mom needed her hair done that day and every one else was closed.

At the salon, there was only one stylist working and she was trying to talk my mom out of not getting her hair done, saying ohh its going to be $130 are you sure? Over and over. My mom said yes its fine. As the woman was doing her hair, she didn't say a word during the whole hour and a half process.

I work in retail and find that VERY unprofessional.

Also when the woman was doing my moms hair and she dropped some dye on her smock and shouted dang it!

Just a completely unreal experience. Do not go there!

I got my nieces hair cornrowed at Smartstyle in Winder, GA. I keep their hair in cornrows. Their hair lasts four weeks and that is with heavy activities like swimming and going to the beach. The day after their hair was done, their hair began to come undone. I took them back in the next day to have it fixed. I was told how to remedy it at home. This was after I paid my money to have it done! Less than a week later, it looks like ###. We have not done anything that would constitute, high activity. I called and spoke with the manager, he said he would call back to reschedule an appointment. It has been two days, he has not called. I gave him two numbers to reach me, he has not called either! I just called their corporate offices. I was told that styles are not guaranteed once you leave the salon. It is not like they got a press and curl. They got braids, cornrows that should have lasted at least three weeks! After five days they looked like ###. So, be aware that even braids are not guaranteed to look good after a few days. Although, if anyone knows anything about braids, they should last a lot longer than five days. It is the main reason parents get braids done for their children. Mind you, I had extensions used, it was not just their hair that was braided. So, it should have lasted a lot longer than it has. I have only kept it in this long, about 8 days now because I want the manager to see how terrible it looks. They are sending me a gift certificate even though I will NEVER use them again! What am I supposed to do with a $90 gift certificate from Regis?

*Update* My Father went to the salon on my behalf and spoke with the manager. The manager then issued a gift certficate so that I would not have to wait for the one to be mailed fom the corporate office. I get the certificate in my hands and it is written out for only $88, mind you I paid out $89.90. I know it is only a $1.90 difference, but still, they found a way to piss off an already dissatisfied customer. It seemed they were saying screw you customer, we could really care less about the fact you were not happy with our services. Oh yeah, I forgot to add that when I first tried getting an appointment, no one would answer the shop phone for three days. They had turned the ringer off. The day of my appointment, I arrive and was told that the stylist would not be there that day because she was not on the schedule. I was asked to come in the next day. I could not, so the manager, Will Smith, called in another stylist, my appointment was made for 7:45PM, but then changed to 7:00PM. I feel like I worked with them on every level to give them a chance and in the end they crapped on me. This manager, Will "L.A" Smith literally ran me down in Walmart to solicit my business. He told me I would be very happy with their services. So, when you call corporate and get Katy or Ashley on the phone, just know you may still not get the satisfaction you seek and deserve. [protected] is the number for their customer relations. I think they are used to getting calls from pissed off customers and they refuse to make you happy. They have never heard of the saying, "The customer is always right".

I visited the SmartStyle inside of a Wal-Mart for a trim. My hair was a few inches past my shoulders in some places (it is layered). I was asked what I would like to have done. I told the beautician I would like a shampoo, trim, and a blow-dry. I asked her if they still charged $1 for conditioner, and she said, "Actually it's $3.00 now, " so I told her no conditioner. Thought that might have tipped her off that I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for a trim. So she trimmed my hair, used a blowdryer and a brush. When she was done, my bill was $41.45! You read it right. I about fell in the floor. I wasd charged the $13.95 for the ADULT SHAMPOO and CUT, $17.50 for SHAMPOO AND STYLE ADVANCED, and $10.00 for SHAMPOO LONG LENGTH ADD. This is insane. I would like to know where I can complain about this. I would never have paid this much for a haircut and blowdry. She didn't even use a curling iron or hairspray on my hair, so I'd like to know what kind of advanced styling was performed. If anyone has had this same problem and has complained somewhere, please let me know where. This is ridiculous.

I started my career in cosmetology at a local Smartstyle and would like to advise anyone wanting a job there to PLEASE think it over. If you want to be a robot or slave churning out five-minute haircuts, coming in early and staying late to clean or attend meetings you don't even get paid for, made travel to other stores in the area (being told you'll get compensated for your gas but you never see this compensation), and barely have enough money for bills/food/gas... then you may get along just fine. I, on the other hand, did not.

I was extremely nervous when I started at SmartStyle because I had just gotten my license and didn't have a lot of experience with clients. I had questions about certain haircutting techniques and my manager wasn't helpful at all, not to mention she wouldn't even let me attempt a color/other chemical service. She didn't show me how to ring up particular services, and barely showed me how to open and close the salon. I got criticized and made fun of because I was slower than the other stylists. Slowly I began to get better, and our old manager was replaced with someone who deserved the position. Things ran smoothly until I transferred to another salon. I worked under three managers in the course of a few months, and was told by several people the area supervisor did not like me as a person. I got in trouble several times for having my cell phone at work, when I only used it in the back and/or on my break, and had my hours cut for no reason whatsoever. I was told I needed to be more productive... I was averaging $150-200 a day in service sales which I thought was good enough... not compared to a coworker who often did $400 a day in services whose haircuts took five minutes and were of low quality. I did redo's on several stylists and did not receive credit for them. Upper management kept finding reasons to get me in trouble, so I packed up my station and left one day. One of the rules is that all returned products were to be taken home or disposed of, not used on clients because they might have been tampered with... I took several returns home and was told the company would seek legal action if I did not bring them back, along with stylist samples (which were sent to us by various product lines AS GIFTS) and products which I had paid for myself. It has not been fun. I regret working there and wish I would have started out with a private salon. I came home tired and cranky every night from working my butt off for peanuts. I gained weight from eating fast food because I was never home long enough to cook a decent meal. I stayed stressed making goals for myself so that I would have money for bills and to live on. They tell you you are guaranteed minimum wage if it equals more than your commission, but also tell you to clock out at times during your shift if it is slow because if you are "out of commission" more than 2-3 pay periods, you will be fired. This company is very unfair, likes to get rid of its most dedicated workers, and upper management is a joke.

Hi and i do agree with you that the price was too high, I work for a SmartStyle myself and what you should have been charged is just the haircut itself, since you did not ask to be conditioned or blowdried and even style. If she would have asked you if you would like a haircut blow dry and style than yes it would have been extra but since you told her just the trim and no conditioner than no you should have not paid that price,

SmartStyle bad eyebrow waxing and haircut

A quick pampering for myself while the kids are in school turned out to be a nightmare in hell. Around 11:34 yesterday I went into Smartstyle to get my eyebrows waxed and a haircut that took ten minutes or less. Every person receives a hair washing and conditioning that YOU pay for. (I did NOT get the washing). The lady sat me down with dry hair and used a flat iorn for a comb, needless to say my hair doesn't curl right and is zig zagged. My eyebrows well to be nice as my husband puts it "I have the look that I was in serious thought or constipated" because one eyebrow is twice the size than the other. The young lady did NOT give me a mirror to even check to see if I liked the results. When I replied that this was the fastest cut and waxing I ever received she told me she liked to stay on top of things. (I had NO clue about the eyebrow until late last night).
Today I went back and another young lady fixed my lopsided eyebrow that was twice the size than the other and commented that eyebrows was the other ladys specialty. (I hope everyone is cautious unless you want to look constipated). The other lady who righted a wrong was very friendly and made things right for free and she doesn't get paid for fixing other peoples booboos. I hope she finds another job soon!

SmartStyle false advertisement

Flyer in smart style reads:the perfect package, $20.95. Includes haircut, basic conditioning service, blow-dry and hot iron touch-up.

I sign in and wait approximately 35 minutes. Called to sit in the chair and told him I wanted the advertised special. At which time I was informed my hair was too long and it would be another $20.00. The blow dry was not a style but just a dry and the hot iron touch up is only for the ends. Not only am I upset that 35 minutes that I do not have is wasted but too late to go somewhere else to get it done.

I guess the biggist issue to me is these businesses get away with leading us on and thinking we are so stupid we will give in and fall for their ploy. Don't let them insult our intelligence. Take a stand and take away their business. You work hard for your money. Don't give it to someone who treats us as if we don't see they are thieves.

I have been to this location twice this year and both times I was pretty much ignored as a paying customer. All the stylists had to talk about "The Shop" business. First of all this should not be done in the presence of customers. I'm sure all the Wal-Mart customers walking by could hear what was being said too.

The first visit I had to wait only a few minutes. The second visit my wait was about 20 minutes which did give me some time to look through hairstyles. So I don't have any complaints about the wait.

They did ask me if I wanted a shampoo and I said yes and I did get one both times so that is not an issue. My haircuts were exactly what I wanted too. The stylists that I had did a great job as far as that goes.

So I guess I would have to say that my complaint is not respecting your paying customer and giving them your full attention. I am moving soon and will try the new location once. If I find this still going on then I will certainly switch to another hair salon immediately. I just feel that they don't deserve my hard earned money at this point but I will give it one more chance.

I have made the mistake of working for this company (off and on) for almost 2 years now. I was let go the first time because of overtime. I was told it was mandatory that I take the classes in the morning (an hour drive from my home) and still work the evening shift (my salon is an hour and a half from the salon where the classes were held.) I was ask to come back because the salon was short staffed. It seem my job is to cover the schedule. My manager is covering a number of salons. When they are short staffed I am often sent there to help, but I am not allowed to transfer. I work long hours, often alone with no access to a restroom, food or water. I can not leave the salon unattended during business hours. My finial straw has come realizing that I have worked for free. My manager claimed that she had to redo an entire full head foil. And if that wasn't bad enough... then came the BOGUS customer refund. I gouged his hair with clippers (on a scissor cut.) The paper trail leads back to another stylist. So I was written up for botching the haircut and ringing it out to another stylist to cover my tracks. Needless to say... I need to find ANOTHER job. I will be cautioning other stylist to stay away from the Smart Styles in this area.

ginurse234, I am a Smart Style employee in Pennsylvania, our Perfect Package is $21.50 here. It is not your fault that you were un-informed about how the pricing works. If your hair is 4" past your shoulders it is considered long, which does cost more to blow-dry and touch up. A Touch up is ends only, if you were to get everything curled or even straightened it wouldn't be a touch up it would be a style. Which would cost more. To blow dry long hair it takes extra time. This should have been something the hairstylist should have told you while giving you a consultation.
Please understand Smart Style is a walk-in only salon. It's usually first come first serve. The wait usually is because a hairstylist is spending the time with another client. I always think of it as, if you were the client in the hairstylist chair, would you rather he/she rushed through your cut, spent 15 minutes max and sent you on your way? Or would you rather have him/her spend 30-45 minutes cutting, drying, and touching up or styling your hair? I just think if I was a client the time spent waiting just tells me that the hairstylist cares enough to spend the time with each of his/her clients and make sure they leave happy. Otherwise, Home Office would be getting even more complaints daily.
Either way, if you would go to any other salon, your cut alone would have been $30.00, an extra $15 just to blow-dry and maybe put a hot iron through to smooth the hair. $45.00 vs $20.95...
Your complaint is valid and I believe the hairstylist should have laid the prices down for you from the beginning.

They do not care. They want to talk about what they want to talk about. There are a bunch of people standing around gabbing about the business. I am so glad that I have my own business and I don't deal with this back stabbing that they are doing.

I can understand if you are unhappy but keep it between the stylists in private. I don't need to know what goes on in the shop especially if they are that unhappy.

Thanks for your comment though. Much appreciated and I will certainly try that with the new place.

SmartStyle over price

Went to my local Wal-Mart on Daniels Parkway and Highway 41. I was having a stressful morning, so decided to go to Smart Style to have my hair washed and blow dry.

I was signed in at 11:45 a.m. for my daughter and me to only have a hair wash and blow dry. (This is a mother, daughter and aunt working there shop - a family!) No waiting list and no one was being serviced when I arrived and when I left - there was no one there waiting for service. This is why...

There was no sign displaying the cost of the shampoo. But, I figured how much can they possible charge. On average it's between $2.00 and $4.00 per person.

The "aunt" that was washing my hair asked me do you want a quote on how much it will cost to have your hair blow dried. I said sure. For your daughter's hair (shoulder length) the cost is $18.00 on top of the $13.00 hair wash and for you $25.00 (long length) on top of your $13.00 hair wash. I was shocked at the amount of the fee and told her no, thanks. Towel dry is good.

Needless to say, we both left there with our hair dripping wet and where charged $26.00 for a wash (did not even get a receipt). I looked up at the clock as I paid and it was 11:52 a.m. (7 mins for both for $26.00) WOW! Talk about highway robbery!

I would discourage EVERYONE from going to this salon! You get a better wash and dry at Cost Cutters, Fantastic Sams (Same type of chain salons as Smart Style) for those money tight situations and for a high end salon I would say go to Vincent's or "Hair Salon" on Lee Blvd.

But, Never, Ever go to Barbara, her mother and aunt shop! Yike! There is nothing "Smart" about this place other than rip offs!

SmartStyle manager is a...

I recently visited the east side smart style in casper wy. wich i have gone to for the last 6 years ! there was a new manager for the first time since ive been going in there! she gave me a terrible haircut and color but of that wasnt bad enough she talked bad about other stylists and the old manager who has done my hair on several occasions and was very professional .. i really felt like this new mgr. was back in high school and the way she bragged about setting 3 people up to get fired was really in poor taste ! i can see why the salon i once knew as a busy happy place to be is now not worth my time! never going back!

SmartStyle Hair color left on too long

My first complaint is concerning getting Wave Nouvea in June and not having any curl definition at all. When I went back I was told the rollers were to large but it could be re-roded in another 2 weeks. My head was a mess and I ended up spending $69 for shampoo, blow dry and curl. Two weeks later I went back and had my color redone. The color was put on and left on for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I became really upset because I had already told the beautician that my hair was shedding really bad. Today I went back because my hair is shedding more and feels like straw. She did a protein treatment for which I had to pay and of course I also had to pay for the other service.

I feel that this is not right, because if you create a problem you should correct the problem, and not at the clients expense. I am considering a lawyer, which is not how I normally function. So I decided to attempt to contact you first about the situation. Can I please get some help in trying to not go bald headed.

SmartStyle horrible haircut!!!

My daughther went into this shop on August 14, 2010 to get her hair trim. She is starting her senior year this year and she had let her hair grow for the past 7 months. Her hair was long and even. she was able to put her hair into a ponytail or up with a hairclip. She got her haircutt by Lisa Marie Connor. My daughter asked for her hair to be trimed. Oh my God! I couldnt believe what I saw! Her hair was SHORT! Her hair lenght was to her neck. So short she couldnt put it up in a ponytail. That's just the beginning. She had pieces of hair chopped up in the back part of her haid u know like layers. My daughter had her hair cut by her before but no problems and then of course it was a razor haircutt last time. I wonder if she know what trimming is. this lady its the shop manager. I just got back from the shop to talk to the "manager' and she was gone. The others ladies were very understanding and willing to help. They also apologized and offer to fix the problem. One of them offer to even out her hair in the front. I told her we didnt want to keep cutting her hair. I asked for my money to be refunded and they told me that the manager was the only one able to refund my money and that she won't be back until Monday. I thanked them and i walk out. Came home and decided to file a complaint. I hope someone will take care of this situation. Another question, How does a company run a business without having a manager on site for every shift or at least someone authorize and capable to handle any situation that may arrive? I hope someone can actually listen to this customer.

SmartStyle hair was not done properly

I went on 7/9/10 to get a perm. I still have the receipt...it really says perm. Where is my perm? No one could even tell I got a perm much less paid $44.95 for it. I went back the next day, the girl that did it, Ruby, said come back Tuesday, the manager is not here. Went back Tues well this Dizzy manager said lets give you a conditioning treatment and see if it helps. Never heard of conditioning treatment to make a perm take, but okay, lets try. NO DIFFERENCE! I'm still not happy with the results and no money returned. Called customer service and because Melissa the manager called them before I did they said sorry...we can"t help you. Well I have been telling everyone I know about this, so I hope you read and decide never to go. Thanks for reading ! Leslie Wright

My friend took her daughter there for highlights as she was getting her senior pictures done. Every place they put the highlighting solution, her hair came completly out (and she was getting chunky highlights...). And I mean out from the roots, not just breakage. The stylist told her she "must have something wrong with her hair."

I wish I would have read this comment before I got my hair done! I am a stylist as well so I am thinking I am just picky. I went in and got color and highlights last friday there and a cut. I paid 80 dollars for it all. It was not what I asked the girl to do but I liked it and I didn't say anything because I have been in her shoes. So now it has been a week and there is no color in my hair... you can also see my roots... Ok well I went to school for this so I know your are not supposed to have roots showing a week later and you should still have plenty of vibrant color still left in my hair... not the case.. My hair is a mess... I am very mad! I am calling there tomorrow to either A get my money back or B they are going to fix it... Now I am debating whether I should get the manager to fix it or not... Good ole Lincolnton...

SmartStyle unprofessinal, long unjustified waiting

Hi, I m a doctor, and very rarely a complainer, I get my hair cuts at the saloon where I live but this time we were driving near lexington going back home (2 hours away from Lexington) and it was Sunday evening, i did some shopping at wallmart and thought to have a hair cut because the hair saloon where I live will be closed by the time I get there, but unfortunately I made a big mistake. There was no waiting customers a head of me, I signed in at 4 50 pm and waited, there were 2 hair stylist already working on 2 customers, finally around 5: 10Pm, one of the hair stylist said she needs to take a lunch break, and told me to wait for the other stylist, who in return told me it ll be only few minutes, well the few minutes turned out to be 40 !, I had to wait until 5 50 pm until finally she finished, although the first stylist returned from her lunch break and did nothing except staring at me. When it was finally my time (after waiting 1 hour, without any customers ahead of me) and I naturally complained about all of this unexplaied waiting time, the first stylist (who went on lunch) was very rude to me, and she gave lame excuses (such as I did nt aknowledge my presence, although I signed my name like u should do, and she saw me and told me I m going on lunch break and I should wait, and kept staring at me when she returned) and she said I can simply leave (after 1 h of waiting ).The hair cut took her only 5 minutes as they closed at 6 pm

By the way both of the stylists did nt have name tags on, and they did nt introduce their names and did nt even call my name to have the service.

Thank for your attention

SmartStyle hackjob

I had hair down to the middle of my back, and wanted to get a long bob. The place I usually go had a 3 hour wait, and I wanted to get my hair cut before I lost my nerve. So, I went to Smart Style in Walmart. I told the girl that I wanted a long bob, just below my shoulders, and she said okay. So, after telling her no several times to wash my hair, I finally caved in and let her. She did not dry my hair, and while ripping her comb through my hair, my shirt got SOAKED. So, then she says, "I'm going to try this style on you, you will love it." Without even asking me if it was okay, she started cutting my hair. My hair is 4 inches shorter than what I wanted. While she was, once again, ripping her comb through my hair, she ripped one of my earrings outs, and said "Oh well, we'll find it later..." While she was drying my hair, she hit my several times in the head with the dryer. She then hassled me to let her flat iron my hair, and honestly, my 5 year old nephew could have done a better job. At this point, I was extremely irritated, so I paid, and left. When I got to my car, I looked in the mirror, and noticed that she did the worst job cutting my hair. It looked like I had cut it myself at home, with a pair of scissors. One side was a lot longer than the other, she put in layers, which were at least 2 inches apart. When I put my hair into a pony tail, it was obvious that she did a horrendous job. I later found out that the girl, who's name is BROOKE, that cut my hair, did not have her cosmetology license, and was just apprenticing. Had I known this, I would have NEVER let her touch my hair.

SmartStyle rips off 78 old woman

On February 9, 2010 my mother (78 years old) went to the local Wal-Mart Smart Style to get her hair done. What a mistake. She told the Manager, Debbie that she wanted a color and cut. The color was 44.95 and the cut was an additional 17.95. Then said mananger asked if she wanted highlights. My moms previous stylist had done 2 colors and did not charge extra. She did not know that it was extra so she said sure why not. At that point you would think the MANAGER would tell her it was an additional $49.95...five dollars more than the first color but she said nothing. At the end she charged her $113.85 for a job which my 14 year old granddaughter could have done. The color was awful and uneven. The cut was miserable at best. I went to the store to confront her and she blew me off saying she was not willing to do anything to help me. I have called the corporate complaint line 3 times. Each time they promise to call back in 30 minutes. No call backs. Not to wonder. Seems corporate is as miserable as their shops/managers. DONT USE WAL MART STYLE SHOPS.

SmartStyle nightmare conclusion

Hello, I am writing this review today in conclusion to my last review ( Smart Style Nightmare- Lebanon, Va). Since that review has posted it has been brought to my attention that my child’s hair was ruined intentionally, by a cosmetologist whom does not believe in allowing preteens and teens to have highlighted hair. The cosmetologist has been going to all of my review sites stating her opinion of how it is so very wrong for teens and preteens to dye their hair. She has also been posting comments of slandering, cursing, swearing profanities, and telling lies about my daughter and I.

At this time I would like to ask everyone whom is posting comments on my and my child’s behalf to stop and take that time to pray for Anita and her family. I would also like to ask that you do not go back to these review sites and continue to read the comments that she will surely write to upset everyone. If we all quit responding she will have no audience to perform for. So please pray for them all and god will handle the rest.

SmartStyle overcharged

3-03-10 I requested a perm at a north Austin, TX Wal-Mart Smart Style salon and was charged $75 due to the "length" of my hair. My hair is not even shoulder length and extremely thin. My hair came out straighter than it was. The stylist, Kay, said I must have done "something" to it and refused to refund my money or do anything about it. I asked at other locations and was told the correct price was $44.95 . I have used your salons in the past, but am DEFINITELY NOT satisfied this time. I have returned to this salon requesting help several times and have been told by this stylist that she did not have time that day to "re-do" it and to come back another day. She continues to stall me. Please help--either refund my money or something. I am assuming that you will stand by your company and assist your customers regarding their satisfaction. Please note my e-mail address below, as I am not on my PC.

Thank you,

The 44.95 is for hair that is EXTREMELY short. Like boy-haircut short.
I probably would have charged you 64.95, but that would still be with me being nice.
The price you were charged was correct.
