This company has post all over craigslist for "customer service" jobs. They say you are guarenteed $500 a week. Well I emailed them and when they called they said that I would be hired for a customer service rep at their "electronics" company. I went to my official interview and was hired that night by a woman saying that she thought I was a great person and perfect for the job. I went to 2 days of ### orientation ( I talked to the other people that were in orientation with me and found out that they got the same speech I did when they got hired) Anyways..on the third day when we started training they said "oh by the way we are training you to sell Kirby Vacuums." Everyone training with me got pissed and then you find out that the $500 is only guarenteed if you can set up 35 appointments to demo the kirby within each pay period. Other wise you only get $5 per appointment. So yeah there is the possibility to make good money, but you have to work 6 days a weeks for a total of around 72 hour each week at the risk of only maybe making like $50. My main complaint is that they lie from the minute they post their jobs on craigslist.

Heads up Bath Twp! Sounds like you got a green van driving around giving away free cleaning products and Kirby vacuum demos...Is it Larry? Is it rogue former employees?

I noticed that this guys is selling his AV equipment on craigslist. I am going to pass on making an offer on this equipment as i would most likely be scammed. Larry you may want to edit your photos on craigslist and remove the negative SHY banners.

I am so glad I found this page. My fiancé has been looking for a job, filling out a bunch of applications. He got excited today when he got the call for orientation in Ann Arbor for an electronic company. I was like babe that's almost an hour away what is the job? He wasn't sure but gave me the address. I searched it on my GPS and it was 41 minutes away, shy enterprises. I searched shy enterprise and thus page came up. I read the first complaint and he was like no thank you. If he would of wasted gas to go there for that crap I would have been pissed since I have work all week and just started so I won't get paid till next week for my first paycheck.

I too was surprised at the unethical methods this company uses for sales. I had thought those days went away when the last snake oil salesman passed away. Sadly, the salesman came to my door telling me they were giving away free laundry detergent and asked if I'd like some. Sure! I love free stuff! The catch? I had to let him demonstrate a kirby. My mom had a kirby and loved it! So I agreed and the demo started. Very high pressure to buy during the entire demo. Then he offers me this "special" discounted price. Which is about what the kirby's normally go for. I did want to buy it and the wife REALLY wanted it. He said he had to use my current vacuum as a trade in or he couldn't sell me the kirby at that price. (I assume it's so I can't do my own comparison of the 2 after they left and also to sell it for a profit) so I did, but the trade in price was less than a 1/3 of what I paid for it recently. I also made him promise me an extra set of bags before buying, which he agreed to mail them to me in a couple of weeks. I love the kirby, but the deal was shady and the lies kept flying. He also wrote the extra bags on his copy of the contract, but not mine. (stupid me for not checking). Now Shy says they are "looking into it" and would call me back the next day. That was 4 days ago, still no call back.
PS: I am NOT an employee, instead, I am a disgruntled customer

I actually had an interview on Monday for this company and the whole time I felt something was off. The person I inyervoewed with did not clearly answer my question when I asked about what I was doing. I got a call back for orientation on Wednesday and that's when I found out I was going to be selling Kirby vacuum.

Larry Shy led the orientation and what threw me off was he talked about how this job could lead you to make more than what you're going to college for and he also mentioned how one of his employees dropped out of college because the money was too good here. The room was made up of college students that were between 19-23 years old. I don't think telling us that we are not going to view this as just a summer job and that it's better than school is the right approach. The next thing Larry did that threw me off was he passed around his old bank deposit slips that showed us how much he deposited into his multiple different bank accounts back in the early 2000s. What employer does that? I thought that was very weird.

I left the orientation with a feeling in my gut that something wasn't right. I googled Larry Shy and I'm so happy I came across this page. It saved me from going any further with the position and wasting my time. This company does come off as shady and I would not recommend working for them. I was only there for the first orientation so I cannot verify that the company doesn't pay you the $400 a week that's guaranteed if you work Monday's-Saturday's and make 5 out of 6 morning meetings. However, I did not want to find out for myself. Personally, I think if there are multiple forums that claim this company is a scam to both consumers and employees, then it would be wise to stay away from them.

Thank You guys so much for feedback on this SCAM. I applied for the position via Craigslist thinking, hey I can do a few phone calls and set up appointments for things, etc. It wasn't until now, the day they called me, that I decided to just find out a little more about this company I could find no information on! Then I came across this review page! Thank You so much guys, I scheduled and appointment but hey screw them, I hate phone salesmen.

This company is advertising as sei. When I tried to look them up to find out more about the company, I couldn't find anything. When they called me, they left a message saying they wanted me to come in that day for an interview. They did not leave the name of their company and when I called back all the lady said was 'personnel department". I hung up and decided to do some research. They are in Ann Arbor and if they had seen my phone number, they would have seen that I live a good 1-1 1/2 hours away. They called me at 1:30pm. After looking up the phone number and reading the complaints, glad I didn't call back again.

They are VERY rude and pushy. The man brought a febreeze bottle and told us that it was free bc they were promoting their store that was coming to our neighborhood (downriver). We thanked him and he asked if we had a few moments so he could show us another product, unfortunately we said yes. He went to his van and we briefly walked out of the room, another man and himself just opened our door and WALKED right in without asking permission. We then seen it was a Kirby and my husband told him we weren't interested. After a back and forth battle for about 5 minutes, my husband told them to get the F@&$ out of our house. On their way out, they grabbed the bottle of febreeze. Absolutely rude and unnecessarily pushy. If I am going to spend that amount of money on something like that, I would NEVER buy from them! STAY AWAY from this company!

Just had a terrible experience with a representative from Shy Enterprises who was trying to sell a Kirby vacuum. He rang my doorbell at 8PM. I opened my door assuming that it was a friend or relative. He gave me a bottle of Febreeze and a business card and asked if I had a few moments. I said "sure", thinking I'd give him a couple minutes, and he ran back to his white van and brought up a Kirby vacuum in the box. He asked if he could set it down inside and I said "yes". Despite my telling him that there was no way I would be purchasing a vacuum from him, he just kept moving and pushing until he had the vacuum set up out of the box. Then he said he was going to get his manager who would do a 5 minute demonstration. This is where I stopped him and told him that I wasn't interested and that he needed to pack up his stuff and leave. He looked at me like I was crazy. "Seriously?" he asked. "But I just set up the vacuum." I told him that I didn't care and that I just wanted him to leave. "But you invited me in, " he told me. At this point I picked up the vacuum and started to take it outside. "Don't pick that up, sir" he told me. I reminded him that his stuff was in my house and that I wanted him and his stuff out of my house. I admit that I might have been a little rude, but it was dark outside (past 8PM) and he was very aggressive and didn't want to listen. He was cursing me up and down and it nearly became physical. His coworkers in the van came up and helped escort him off my property. One of the workers asked my wife if he could have the Febreeze back, to which she obliged. I got my phone and called the police and let them know that I was calling the police and that I wanted them out of my neighborhood. I do not have anything against people going door-to-door, but this was a scary situation for me, as my wife and family were inside. It definitely shook us up and it is the worst experience I have ever had with somebody trying to sell me something at my door. I know being a door-to-door salesman is a tough racket, but you cannot force yourself into somebody's home and refuse to take "no" for an answer. My wife and I have already discussed how we will handle solicitations like this in the future, primarily by not answering the door in the first place.

I'm glad I read this because I was suppose to start orientation with them tomorrow and its crazy I so happen to look the company up and look what I find same address and everything. Wow im the wrong person to mess with and im glad im not going tomorrow cause im coming from Detroit and if they told me I was going to be saling vacuum cleaners and I drove that far then someone would have to pay. Its ###ed up how they sell you a dream and say you get all types of bonuses and sign on bonus but its all a trick to lure you in n damn I had my hopes up for this job and I have a child to take care of and this just ###ed my whole mood up.

Guy showed up at my house at 9:15 PM last night. I didn't even allow him to get to the porch! He said he wanted to give me a free bottle of Febreeze, and when I declined he asked if he could come in and give a demonstration of a Kirby vacuum... AT 9:15 PM! I told him no, he gave me a Shy business card and left. I understand that a guy's gotta do his job, and had he shown up at a reasonable time I wouldn't have been upset, however after 7 PM on a weeknight IS NOT REASONABLE! I assume, after reading these posts that the company didn't get a permit from the city of livonia to go door to door, so they were coming after hours, to avoid being noticed!

Same story here..SEI scammed me and Larry Shy, Shy enterprises. I'm a college student, thought I was applying to a customer service job. Wasted my gas and money and they paid me nothing. I worked for free..well actually less than free cause I had to pay to get there. Scammed by SEI on craigslist. Funny how that guy above says he worked for them and they never change name >? lol.. google shy enterprises and seinowhiring.com . They post like 100 ads a day that don't really tell you what you're doing or company name, so big time shady Larry Shy, Shy Enterprises or SEI is. Below is an ad I fell for

Hello. YOU ARE ALL RIGHT! i worked for them just this past winter. It sucked. n yes chris is a d-bag. I had to make money to support my fam. I refused to b pushy at a door or do a demo for someone who wasnt interested but i had to lie to Larry or the crew leader (driver) If someone ask how long i told theman hour n a half if they said i dont have that time i would say ok no problem heres a card if you have time or change ur mind you juss give that number a call...and with a smile. no wonder i sold the most and got kicked out the least. BUT! i was always being verbly abused by larry and often not paid just because "I got in less doors" i workded from 9 till no EARLIER that midnight i would bet home. on the upside the money I was making was REALLY GOOD all because i did it my way. SO if you get that bosses are ###s n dont mind working along side pushy, rude, salesmen and are very good at bein sneaky around these types of people you can do great! and I will tell you now there were only 2 men in a group of about 20 that were like this.

They came to my house last night, giving a free container of Clorox wipes away. I was surprised to say the least when he grabbed a Kirby and was coming into my house for a demo. He claimed it would only take a moment of my time and it ended up being 2 hours. The guy doing the demo was really nice and courteous but his so called manager was very rude and impolite. Consistently insulting me, and finally after telling them several times that I could not make a purchase of that size without talking to my spouse I had to kick him out. Which became a shouting match. His name was Chris and he was so rude that there is no way on earth I would ever buy a Kirby from him. Now all of a sudden I'm getting hung up on by an Ann Arbor number, how convenient. He better hope he never steps foot on my property again.

Representatives of this company came to our neighborhood this evening. When asked to leave they became verbally aggressive with our neighbor. After being asked to leave several times, they did leave, but not without rude comments. Two hours later, they came back into our neighborhood and we called the police. The police located them in town and discovered they did not have a license to be soliciting. The company they work for is Shy Enterprises and they are selling Kirby vacumes. Avoid engaging with these sales people and do not let them into your home. If they are assertive, we advise you to call the police.

These guys are now recruiting as "SEI" out of Ann Arbor MI"

I typically will do some research on companies to better tailor my CV for the application process. The first "red flag" popped up when I noticed that their website domain switched to "shyhr.com" complete with the copyright tag for Shy Enterprises. I then of course start researching Shy Enterprises and found all these colorful reviews from both this and many more websites.

Thank you all for saving me both the time and the hassle of dealing with these guys. When searching for work, running into places like this feel like a kick in the dick.

Again, thank you all!

A sales'kid' from Shy Enterprises showed up at my door today handing out free Clorox wipes for a supposed promo. Without an explanation he just walked into my home Took off his boots and pulled out a vacuum. After demoing said vacuum over and over again even when I made it very clear I wasn't interested, I called my fiancé who called the kid's boss and finally got him out of my house. It was very clear that this kid was instructed not to leave and had to show proof to his supervisor that he showed me everything the vacuum could do. I even tried to pick up his dirty cloths to make it clear I wanted him to leave and he put them back down so his boss could see them. I'm scarred for life. I will never answer my door when I'm home alone again.

Could it be this company is moving around in Ann Arbor because of all the colleges around?

Rise up college students! Companies like this are preying upon you. You guys should be very, very mad that they are choosing you as their special victims.

You guys have all the power to change things here. This company has to be recruiting from somewhere. Even if it isn't through the colleges, the college students should be getting the word out. If you guys are not communicating then find a way to get communicating with each other. Find a way to get the college students who are sincerely seeking work to skip companies like this. Use social media sites if you have too. Save future students and ultimately consumers from being scammed.

Maybe you guys could create one website with a listing of companies to avoid and why. Go to your college administration and ask for assistance. Solicit your classmates and start brainstorming. Get the information out to the public. Try to get all the college students at different colleges checking this website. This is the best way to stop the scammers and put them out of business.

You guys are all bright. You are in college for a reason. You are trying to build a future for yourselves. Don't let this company and one's like it prey upon you. Be creative and get the word out. Who knows. Maybe one or more of you will become the next Facebook millionaire.

I was also saved as a consumer from letting these pushy Shy Enterprise door to door criminals in my door.

F rating proves there lack of ethics at the Better Business Bureau.

Did some research on larry shy and shy enterprises. Ann Arbor doesn't want you here Larry.
Funny how that last guy above that says he worked at Shy Enterprises is awfully quiet now, won't state his name and explain the F grade they received. Funny also how Larry Shy is so quiet in all of this. Probably to busy in court. You belong in prison Larry not in court!

Buyer beware ! All the reviews of this company throughout the Internet saved me as a consumer. I would have to think if a company can treat their own employees like dirt, how are they treating the customers. If you have provided this company with any financial information, I would suggest putting a credit alert on your accounts. From my dealings with them, I don't think they are above ANYTHING!

Shy Enterprises Pyrimad Scheme
Ann Arbor, US
Sep 20, 2010 5:16 pm EDT

"THIS PERSON THAT POSTED ABOVE IS A DISGRUNTLED EXEMPLOYEE!"

Reality- Everyone that works at Shy Enterprises is disgruntled except the people making money off of the daily disgruntled. (Top of the Pyrimad Scheme) Nobody is claiming that money can't be made off of cheating others, but you are operating a lying cheating scam.

"SHE STARTED OFF VERY FAST AND DID QUALIFY FOR BONUSES HOWEVER AFTER SHOWING UP LATE AND TAKING DAYS OFF IN HER FIRST WEEK DID LOSE HER PERFORMANCE AND BONUSES!""

Reality- Shy Enterprises is a door to door scam that lies to people about what they will be doing and "performance", "Bonuses" are incentives purposely developed to keep employees long enough to sell door to door vacuums and not get paid. Shy Enterprises will pull every scam in the book to ensure you don't qualify for their bonuses. You must, for example, work from 8am-1 am Monday, tues, wed, thurs, fri and saturday for 4 weeks straight in order to be eligible for your "Bonus", without lunch breaks and you must perform a minimum amount of "demonstrations" that are performed door to door, although you don't have any control over how many demonstrations that you perform, your manager has control over how many demonstrations you perform. Therefore, unethical managers will ensure that you don't meet the required amount of demonstrations so you are ineligible for your bonus. UNETHICAL SCAM

" SHY ENTERPRISES HAS BEEN INCORPORATED IN THE STATE OF MI SINCE 1995 AND OH BY THE WAY HAS NEVER CHANGED NAMES!"

Reality- Untrue. Larry Shy worked with another man under a different name prior to Shy Enterprises. Google Larry Shy and Shy Enterprises. There are many lawsuits against the company.

" IT NEVER STOPS AMAZING ME HOW LAZY, NEGATIVE, IGNORANT PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO BLAME THEIR LACK OF SUCCESS ON THE SUCCESSFUL."

Reality- How dare you call hard working Michigan workers Lazy, negative and ignorant. You hire 5-10 new employees per day that quit, are fired or are screwed out of money from you. Don't you talk about success. You are not succesfull because you lie to people. You might make some money off of scamming others. But you are not succesfull.

" IVE BEEN WITH MR. SHY FOR OVER TWO YEARS NOW AND ALL I DID WAS WORK HARD, AND STAY FOCUSED. IVE BEEN PAID VERY WELL AND TREATED EXCEPTIONALLY BY HIM AND EVERYONE I WORK WITH."

Reality- You are an unethical person. If you are so proud of your behavior then please post your name. There are only a few people that work at the top of the Shy Enterprises pyrimad that make any money, and they make it off of scamming at least 5 NEW victims per day. Victims that were told they were hired on for "customer service work". Victims that are lied to and cheated out of pay so that the few unethical snakes at the top of the Pyrimad scheme can make money off the backs of the ethical, hard working people of Michigan.

Thank you for the first two posts. I was recently contacted for an interview when I decided to do some checking. I kept asking repeatedly what I would be doing for this job and was told "demonstrating air circulation equipment". Awful fancy way of saying vacuum cleaner. Fortunately I smelled this as a scam, because anytime the person on the phone doesn't want to talk about what you would be doing and you don't remember applying to the job it probably one of these MLM's or worse. I will put these a-holes on my list with Universal Gas and Electric to tell people never to call back.

It's door to door vacuum sales. Amazing they're still in business. Not too amazing that they change their business name every year to another name as the complaints grow. Larry Shy is the owner. (If that's even his real name?) They hire people on as "customer service" reps who are told they will be answering phone calls for an hourly rate. When all is said and done, you are not paid for those days as promised. If you ask to be paid, Larry Shy will swear, cuss and threaten you, claiming he's busy. If you ask for written contracts they will cuss and act busy and pull every scam to avoid paying you for the work you've done. If you choose to sell vacuums, they tell you that your first sale you will make 2000 dollars! It's BS.. they end up taking the 2K away from you because the written sales contact says (you are only eligible for the 2K if you work 6 days a week from 8am- 1 am in the morning for a full month and are never late for a meeting.) That would be fair, if they gave you the contract prior to you doing the work? They lock the door for the meeting room early so you are technically late or pull many shady scams to ensure that you work for free. They hold contests where you can win a day off for your good work. Then they take away bonus checks because you took that day off? Every shady, unethical trick in the book Shy Enterprises and Larry Shy are on it. The only way they're in business is because they have 4 new suckers a day to lie and cheat. They hire slaves basically, because they don't pay their employees and lie to them. They don't supply the contract untill after the fact. When you finally had enough of their scam and you quit, they promise that they will have a check for you at a specific time and place, they act as if it's a total suprise that you are leaving and act nice to you. Pretending like they don't abuse their employees and see new employees every day that they lie to. You show up at to pickup your check at a time and place and they aren't there. They ask you to come back at another time. Then they magically aren't there at that time. They lie about what you will do as a job, what you will get paid and then when it comes down to a check, they lie about the date and time the check is available for pickup. They make you have to spend money on a lawyer in order to collect a couple thousand dollars you were screwed out of... That is how they succeed. They make money off of scamming Michigan workers out of the money they were promised. If you encounter Shy Enterprises in any fashion I warn you to run
