Item Description: Dishwasher |
Brand Name: Kenmore Elite |
Model Number: 665.13104K902 |
Serial Number: FY4502079 |
Sears Stock Number: 13104K |
Where Purchased: Pleasanton, CA |
Date Purchased: November 27, 2009 |
Comments: The touch buttons of the dishwasher started to come out within a year of use. I thought it was issue with just one button, so I glued it back on, but now all of them are starting to come out. This is a manufacturing or design defect that Sears should, as this type of issue should never happen with a very light use.
This is clearly a manufacturing/design issue that Sears is supposed to fix but they are refusing to do anything about it.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was put on a 45 minutes hold to no where.

Dear amalik1234,
I want to apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing with the touch buttons on your dishwasher. I can certainly see how frustrating this must be for you. As the seller of appliances on the behalf of the manufacturer, we hope that the item will not fail, or cause our customers any problems, because they have our name attached to them but anything that is manufactured has the possibility of failure, be it a refrigerator, washer or a Ferrari. No retail organization (or manufacturer) can guarantee the item you purchase will not fail. All this being said we do value you as a customer and would like to see how we can help resolve this situation. My name is Laura and I am with Sears Cares, a team dedicated to handling escalated issues such as yours. At your convenience please contact our office via email at smsupport@searshc.com and a personal case manager will reach out to you directly. In the email, please provide a contact phone number so that we can call you directly, the phone number the dishwasher was purchased under (if different than the contact phone number), and please do include your user name (amalik1234) for reference to your issue. Again, I apologize for all the inconvenience you’ve experienced with this and we look forward to speaking with you soon.
Thank you,

I have a Kenmore elite Dishwasher - model 665-13119K701, SER#FY0514177. Buttons started to peel off within few years. My wife & I, use dishwasher perhaps twice a week only. I am very frustrated to learn that I need replace entire panel for $127 + repair cost.
We have number of Kenmore appliances and now wondering to continue replacing with another brand.

Can you provide me with only those peel off buttons so I can glue them back?

This has been a problem for years with no help from Sears. I will definitely now look elsewhere for my next appliance!

Several buttons on my Kenmore Elite have also came loose. I was able to glue one successfully, however one button came off a function never used even once. This button seemed to disappear so I have a silver spot to look at to remind me of an another overpriced poor quality Kenmore product.. This was the only top of the line Kenmore product that did not fail after a few years of light duty use. It's very disappointing that Kenmore can not offer plastic replacement for these loose buttons. Anyone considering purchasing Kenmore products should reconsider and buy a better quality brand that stands in back of their products!

I bought my Kenmore washing machine just over two years ago and the cheap plastic buttons are cracking. Stupid me, I thought it was a fluke and stayed brand loyal to Kenmore. Surely, a company couldn't possibly design their products THIS badly. This was my second Kenmore washer to replace my old one where the buttons did the same thing. Now, I have to replace it again and I've seen some good deals on the Lowe's website for GE products. I've never tried GE but it's gotten be better than Kenmore. Such a shame I didn't learn my lesson and stay away from Kenmore! It's heartbreaking to see Kenmore take advantage of so many people!

Same problem. Wondering if anything has changed since the last post in April? All I want is a replacement flimsy plastic overlay. There is NO reason on earth they can't make this part of the panel available separately. Makes you think this it's all a planned conspiracy to sell expensive parts! Disgusting.

Purchased a stainless steel Kenmore, side by side fridge. Soon after, started seeing what appears to be rust spots forming on the stainless steel. Called customer service, but was informed that as long as it was still cooling, there was nothing they could do. Shortly after that, the ice maker quit dispensing cubed ice. Now it will only dispense crushed ice.

I have had my Kenmore range for less than two years. I maybe use my oven once a week. After 6 months of use, the oven started to smoke and sometimes catch fire. There were no spills. It has progressively gotten worse. Is there a recall on these ranges?

Same problem with our Kenmore Elite dishwasher. Model 665.13123k703 The buttons on the control panel have cracked and fallen away. A replacement overlay is not listed in the parts catalog, only a control panel for $127. The machine works well as long as you can remember which button is which. Contacts with Sears have been unproductive.

I am having the same problem with my Kenmore HE2 Clothes washer and dryer. The button overlays started fall off after 3 years just outside of the extended warranty that I purchased. I searched the web looking for replacement overlays without any luck. Not a great
reflection on Kenmore quality or lack there of.

Wow. I thought I was the only one. I finally went on the parts site and saw that they don't sell a new overlay, just an $85 new control panel. We've been missing our most pushed buttons for some time now, and more are threatening to go. The idea of shelling out $85 when the current control panel works is ridiculous. There has to be a more inexpensive fix for this! At the moment, we remember what each of the buttons that is missing is for. All of our appliances are Kenmore Elite. We bought the model dishwasher we did, with the stainless tub, thinking that it would last. Now it looks like crap.

Many of you on this forum have only experienced their Kenmore dishwashers losing their plastic buttons on the control panels, well BOTH my dishwasher AND fridge have this issue. I have had both appliances for a number of years, but have been gluing on the buttons since the end of the first year. (which I should never have had to do in the first place) Now that the buttons have fallen off and have been lost or vacuumed, my appliances look terrible. I take pride in my home and kitchen, and up to this point have been very loyal to Sears and Kenmore. That being said, my Maytag dryer went out suddenly a couple of months ago, and I immediately headed to Sears and picked up a new Kenmore dryer. When you purchase appliances, you buy the best quality that you can, with hopes that they hold up, mechanically, but that they also hold up on the outside. These buttons are used frequently, and this fact should have been taken into account when this product was manufactured. I can't afford to replace the panels, and my faith in Sears and Kenmore is fading.

We just had one fall off today. This is stupid Sears fix the problem. $85.00 to replace the whole control panel for plastic buttons is stupid! You should be replacing it with something that won't do that again. What if I spend $85.00 and it does it again a year from now. Elite my butt! This is crap! I also have racks that are rusting after we were told they wouldn't ... that is why we spent all this money on this stupid thing!

I am having the identical problem with my Kenmore dishwasher. I bought an expensive upgraded dishwasher and in less than a year the plastic buttons were coming off. We have tried to glue them on, tape them on but now it is impossible. This is clearly a design flaw and Sears needs to be responsible and at least offer repairs. Very disappointed in Kenmore, the quality has gone down the drain. They should be embarassed and do a recall.

My cracked buttons are on my refrigerator (Kenmore Elite). It sounds like it is the same cheap plastic overlay that they are using cracks on other appliances. I have a service agreement that was purchased and even then Sear will still not replace the buttons. They said it is a cosmetic issue and when I asked if I could purchase the over lay they said I would have to buy the entire ice/water mechanism that would cost close to $400. I agree that is if this is a product defect that many customers are deal with then they should have a solution in place. This is so wrong! Has any one had any success in having their plastic overlay replaced? Please tell how to do it. I have now spent half a day with a repair guy, on 5 phone calls and have gotten no where!

I am having the same issue. The buttons are popping off. My cancel button came off and others cracking that I don't even use! I say ef the company if the do not have a solution to a problem that is just bad manufacturing. They should be ble to at least say...for a small fee we can send you a new face for your dishwasher. Because it is clearly a piece that just glues on.
I HAVE COME UPWITH MY OWN SLOUTION! -thanks kenmore (sarcasm)
I peeled off the face sticker on mine. Although it didn't come off pefectly. (Some of the black paint) I painted the sections of black on the back that came off. It doesn't look perfect...but it works. I am taking the whole piece in to get laminated. Then I will find a glue to put it back on. I am not saying that anyone else should do this! It's just what I am trying to do since I do not want to buy a new dishwasher right now, and it sounds as if the company does not want to help past supporting customers. (Never again)
C'mon kenmore! How much would it cost to send a plastic piece to the customer to replace this? And at a cost to us! Instead of having something ghetto looking in my nice kitchen.
Thanks a bunch.

I have had the same problem since months after we bought the Kenmore ultra wash. I have tried to glue them back on, but more have loosened and two are lost. This is a big disappointment in Sears, and my previous good experience. This is clearly a design flaw and has been for some time. It should be fixed for customers.

I have the Kenmore Ultra Wash QuietGuard Standard Dishwasher. The controls work but all the buttons cracked off because of the cheap plastic. I agree that it is definitely a design flaw and it should be replaced by Sears. I certainly will think twice before making another Sear's appliance purchase.

Same problem. Cheap plastic face on control panel, very stupid design. We had similar problems with the installation and, later, a repair to that installation - contractors not showing up, no calls, days of work lost waiting for no one. When we bought our house, I bought everything Sears. Very sad to say that Sears of China is no longer an option for us. I really wanted to see Sears survive, but I'm not holding my breath. I also notice that there is no longer any sign of "Sears Cares" on this site. Sears was once a proud name with a long history of excellent products and service. Now it's barely a joke.

Guess what, I have the same problem. I glued one button back on, but now it seems to have fallen off again and the vaccum took it away for good. All the buttons are loose. Very disappointed in a 2 yr old diswasher with this level of "quality".

I have this same problem. So many buttons have fallen off we can't remember which unlabelled button do what. After my first complaint I was contacted by a Sears cares person but there was no follow-up after our initial conversation. Research on other websites shows many more people having this problem and replacement parts doing the same thing. My wife is looking for a new electric range. I seriously doubt we will be considering Kenmore.

I have the same issue with my stainless steel Kenmore Elite dishwasher purchased in 2009. I believe that there is a design flaw and that this is not a rare defect issue. Some of the buttons started falling off a year ago and now all of them are in some way separating from the panel. There are many posts on the internet about this issue. The cost to fix it is ridiculous. Design for quality and quality control used to be something I associated with Sears products such as Kenmore. After owning a Kenmore Elite washer and dryer where the washer failed after 6 years and an Elite dishwasher that started having this button issue after only 2 years, I am reluctant to consider Kenmore in my future purchases.

I too have the same issue with my Sears Kenmore Elite. I spent over 2 hours explaining the issue to 4 different persons at Sears. I was convinced at the store to spend extra money on the Elite series dishwasher when I purchased all my appliances. We RARELY use our dishwasher and all the push buttons are cracking. I was told that I didnt purchase an extended warranty so they could do nothing. They would NOT even discount the part which is the entire control panel I have just found out. My dishwasher was purchased in April of 2010. Delivered and installed by Sears several months later, and first started being used in Dec. of 2010. We run it maybe once every 2 weeks as we do most dishes by hand. Buttons we do not even press are cracked and coming off and now I am supposed to invest over $100 to replace with no guarantee of it not happening again. I told Sears I have a young family with years of major purchases ahead of us, and said this would impact my future with them. I was appauled by being told "I am sorry you feel that way, but there is nothing we can do." Over $4500 in appliances and now looking to replace an appliance. My advice, dont believe any malarchy they tell you and also avoid Sears and their products all together. It is obvious why they struggle as a big box retailer. I am sad that all my tools are craftsman... I was once proud.
