Save Mart harassment of customer

A long time Save Mart shopper went to the Save Mart store in Reedley on April 29, 2009, and gave an employee a gift of 3 homemade rolls on her lunch break. When the employee had worked in that store a year or so before he was always grouchy but now appears to be in a much better mood. She took him the rolls because she felt he deserved a "Random Act of Kindness" for the positive change in his attitude. Before she checked out with her purchase she was approached by the manager and asked if she had given the employee the bag of rolls. She said she had. He wanted to know who gave her the bag to give to the employee and didn't want to believe that it was from her and that she had made them. It WAS from her and she HAD made them. She was TOLD to pay for her purchases and then go with him to the back room. He made such a scene in front of the other customers that they stared at her and she felt like they thought she had shoplifted. She was humiliated in front of all the other customers.
In the back he told her there is a policy that employees can not receive things from customers. She said she has given home baked things to employees before with no problem. He treated her like a crook for her kindness. He also told her that the employees get paid for their work and do not need anything else. He verbally hinted at threats of police involvement if she did not sign a form saying she will never enter that store again. She signed the form because she felt threatened by him. The manager was very rude to her. He walked her to the door of the store and made sure she left.
Since when is kindness a crime? Especially such a crime that you are not allowed back into a store? Since the incident she has heard all kinds of rumors about herself. All false, I should add. Even one saying she is a stalker. What she is, is a very kind giving lady that thinks of others before herself. Save Mart needs to fire that manager and get their act together not harass customers when they show kindness.

I agree the manager should be fired. I think the people of that town should not shop there if he continues as manager. A real life Grinch. If an employee has changed in such a positive way he SHOULD be rewarded. The lady should file harassment charges against the manager and store for the treatment she received.

That's awful. If I were her, I'd call the local newspaper - nothing like getting a little front page news for a bad manager.

I understand lots of places don't allow their employees to take gifts from customers, but the employee should be the one who knows this, not the customer. At the very least, if it is "store policy" then they should post a sign that says so.

Save Mart Donuts

Every Thursday I & my husband go to Save Mart on the N. side of Carson HWY 395 to buy donuts. We are retired seniors. Several times in the last few weeks there were no Crullers(donuts). The mgr.Ken has said his orders are not being filled. We shop at this store weekly and live at Silver Oak Golf club, near the store, some times I walk at 6:30AM . While there we buy other food items and we like the store. Why can't we get the crullers on a regular basis? The store Asst.mgr wasn't much help either, 4-17-08. Please help.
When Albertsons was there this never happened!

I am an employee at Lucky on Clayton Road in Concord. I have not used my real name for fear of retaliation. The store manager at our store has transfered or fired all who have opposed her. She has numerous harassment lawsuits against her, which she has lost most of. She has made several comments about the union not running her store as well as the union not...
