Sam Houston Rottweilers review: 9 month old puppy had to be put down 8

People who said they've had a great experience with this breeder are obvious extremely lucky, and its just luck. I got a Rottweiler Puppy from her in 2011. The puppy maybe weighed 3 lbs when I got him. Kristy said that the siblings were always eating his food and he was small. I got the puppy home and after a day something just didn't look right to me. Took the puppy to the vet, he had worms and a parasite that took 2 months to get rid of. He had to have an ultrasound of his head. It was touch and go for weeks.

She immediately offered to exchange him. Then tried to chastise me for buying the medicine when she had that at her business. I already loved my puppy Madsen and knew she had no plans to nurse him back to health. If I knew something was wrong with the dog, then she did as well, and gave him to me just the same. I debated that she needed to pay the first 2 vet bills and she argued I would of had to take him for shots anyway. After explaining to her that he couldn't even get shots at this point, she finally paid for the visit.

The only kind thing I can say is, I got a puppy with the best disposition toward people and children and he was beautiful. Well worth any money or time we invested. He lived to be 9 years old and was loving and loyal and is missed. I contemplated getting another rottie from her, but after reading above, I believe I got lucky.

Would warn any potential buyer against using this breeder. Kristy kept trying to get me to use the "family and friends" option in PayPal so that she could avoid fees. Felt very sleazy. When the puppy arrived, we had her x-rayed when she began having hip issues after 6 months. My wife is a veterinarian. We told Kristy about the issue, she "ghosted" us after that. No refund, no follow-up. Buyer BEWARE!

I had a terrific experience with Kristy at Sam Houston Rottweilers. My wife and I were able to go look at, pick up, and play with the puppies prior to picking one out. We agreed on a price and have had our dog for over 2 years now. He’s awesome: lovable yet protective, beautiful and big! Our Thor (Frederick) is the easily the best quality Rottweiler I’ve had and Kristy was prompt at answering any and all question via email, text, and phone. I have nothing but praise for their quality, standards, and their kennel in general.

Had a terrible experience with this breeder. Puppy was not what was promised and has had serious health problems from the beginning when the puppy arrived very sick. Took breeder up on her "warranty" for an exchange, never heard back. Would not recommend!

When this customer approached me about her puppy being diagnosed with Ostesarcoma I told her that to date we had never experienced that with our Rottweilers, but still I did the research to find out all I could. In our Sales Contract we offer a general health guarantee and hip guarantee for all puppies sold. Many breeders wont even cover Hip Dysplasia. While our contract doesn't cover Cancer we would certainly try to accommodate our customer and find a good resolution that would satisfy both parties. In all the years that we have bred I have never myself bought a dog where the breeder guaranteed against Cancer, Leukemia etc. Sadly, those are things that as breeders we have no control over, same as you could never say that your own child couldn't get cancer, etc. These are things that are unfortunately unpredictable and if there has NEVER been ANY incidents of Cancer in the lines then there is no way to anticipate this could occur. Even though our contract does not cover Cancer, I would have gladly worked with her to offer another pup from a breeding of their choice but they didn't ask for a replacement, just informed me of her pups condition. My offer is still as good today as when she called, if she chooses to be angry thinking this was something I could have known beforehand or prevented then there isn't much I can do to change that. We have an excellent reputation and a long referral list of well satisfied customers who love and adore their pups and come back for another or refer others to us. I'm of course very sorry to hear this happened as we put tremendous time and dedication into our breeding program. I know she bonded and got attached to her puppy so that's why we made the offer to try to help bring resolution to it. If they choose not to accept then there isn't much more I can do. I felt a reply was necessary because of the deep passion we have for the Rottweiler breed.

While I personally don't know of any breeders that guarantee against Bone Cancer, I would have still provided her with another pup at a substantial discount. I've never purchased a dog in 25 years that the breeder gave us any kind of warranty against Bone Cancer, which isn't under a breeders control. No one can say their child wouldn't ever get Cancer or Leukemia, unfortunately these things can come up that are beyond our control. Still, we have always gone above and beyond to be sure every customer is well satisfied. I would have easily offered another pup at a great discount to help with the grief and stress of losing a beloved puppy. This customer didn't request another puppy or we'd have been happy to offer her one from any other breeding we had currently or upcoming. Still, to this day I would help replace a puppy for her, even now.
