This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

The breeder collected a deposit for a kitten, only to raise the price a day later without notice. Then when we could no longer afford the kitten the breeder stopped responding to emails and phone calls and just kept the deposit, not responding what so ever to explain why our money was not being returned nor offering any other kind of deal or plan of action. Stay away! Buyter beware!

I can speak to my experience with dorinda at rideau lake bengals. to those that are quick to judge or have some vendetta against rlb for whatever reason this review is not for you.

Really wanted to write this for those considering this breeder, in lieu of some strongly worded reviews on here as I believe she is a quality bengal breeder. if some of the reviews on here deter you, there's a chance you might be missing out..

I can understand some of the comments on responsiveness but overall my experience was positive and I found her to be fair and in the end did everything she said she would.

There was an issue with covid that changed things and we were able to come to a satisfactory agreement. this was after the contract was signed and my deposit was taken.

Blankets, toys, food, pictures, everything was provided as promised. she was also able to provide me with references which helped in my decision to go with her. in the end, I simply don't want to get ripped off and get what I pay for so to me it's not really about the breeder or whether I like her, it's about the bengal and whether I get what I pay for. I consider myself tough when it comes to this, not one to put up with bs and rideau lake bengals came through.

The bengal female I purchased from her has an amazing temperament and is extremely intelligent. i've had good comments from vets on this so I do think she breeds quality bengals. very social around my nieces and humans in general. secondly, the look of her bengals are amazing. i've seen other bengals and none come close to the luxurious look that she breeds. I always get comments on how beautiful she is, there's a certain wow factor about the kittens that she breeds.

Threatening phone calls from both Dorrinda and her thug drunken delusional boyfriend, Threatening to kill my cats and myself.
I believe the animals are mistreated especially when the 2 are on a bender wich happens frequently drugs and alcohol.
Then the figure it's a good idea to call and threten you and your animals.
Stay away, there are better people to deal with than these 2 pychos.
All this because they offered and promised to make an appointment to have my babies fixedand then never did it, leaving me to make my o2n appointment wich was 2 months after applying.
Also was promised a price ans when it came down to it they raised the price last minute when i came to chose and pick up.

Omg! All the good replies are Dorinda making fake accounts! If you click on them, they say one comment only. Who makes a profile to only post a comment to this? Apparently Dorinda. They also all sound the same. I bought a cat from her and she truly does it for the $. Once you send your deposit, don’t expect a single thing from her.

Bought my bengal from her. Was a battle to get a commitment that a flight was booked to get it to me. I feel if I didn’t hold back on half of the money the cat wouldn’t have shipped.

It was shipped infected w crypto which clearly all of her cats had/have. It isn’t cureable. It can subside or cause future problems.
The cat bled for months. She said it was stress. When I told her I had a vet diagnose crypto her response was “hey”. What a ‘tard she is. Unfortunately I believed her about the stress, bought a cat from another breeder and now both are infected.

Worst breeders ever ! Just want your $ . Not professional at all. After they get ur deposit they don’t send u pics and videos as promised unless you bug and beg them to. Never reply back to ur messages . Finally when it’s time to bring to your home,
They come but “ forget “ the food as it is stated in the contract. Brought me a towel? Said to bring the baby a blanket from the home. And most def only in the business for the $ they don’t care about u or the cats. Never again would recommend to anybody!

BUYER BEWARE - DO NOT BUY FROM RL BENGAL unless you like the headaches

i know of a few individuals that have bought from them and drove for several hours to purchase kittens from them, only to have headaches later on. this breeder takes no responsibilities even with a health guarantee. All "positive" replies here are from the same person, and the last few say so directly/clearly.

THIS IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL BREEDER, JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A ROOM IN THE HOUSE FOR BENGALS, DOES NOT MEAN SHE IS A PROFESSIONAL. "BACKDOOR" breeders are better and more honest than this one. Even the backdoor breeders know who and what they are and don't hide it.

The website is a free site for RL BENGALS, not professionally made, nor professionally managed. Further proof she is just a backdoor breeder, who has documents from TICA dating back to 2013, nothing recent! furthermore is way too expensive for the live-stock they breed. becoming part of TICA is very easy, and it stands for nothing, what matters is your professionalism, honesty and compassion. RL BENGALS are found to be wanting.

RL BENGALS JUST HIDE BEHIND PAPERWORK AND THEN DISAPPEAR!

My client (also a friend) who is going through headaches because of RL Bengal has tried to contact them for the last one year to no avail. I also tried on her behalf and again, no reply. JUST A BUNCH ON THIEVES. MAKING BUSINESS OUT OF LIVES.

i wanted a bengal for myself, funny thing, i went to the back door breeder instead of these goofs. they were not responding to my friend anyways, so whats the point of going to them!

so far in 6 months, i have had no issues AT ALL! makes you wonder about breeders and papers really.

Good luck to all, hopefully most the people who have done business with RL bengals have not suffered! but from this forum it seems they have, what a shame! anyways i hope everyone the best! life is unpredictable, anyone can become ill and there are many ways to pass away, can't always win. just warn. people i know are just cutting the losses and moving on!

I have found a few negative comments on Facebook in regards to this breeder as well as a few complaints on this forum about this breeder. I know many people that have had dealings with her in the past and have never heard a bad word or a problem. Sounds to me like someone didn't get what they wanted from the breeder and has decided to slander them. I am aware of another breeder that has issues with them and they are causing all kinds of problems for Rideau Lake Bengals. I believe legal action is being taken against this individual for slander. When reading this complaints I think people need to keep in mind that there are always two sides to a story and it is very easy to make up fake names and accounts on line to make it seem like many people have problems with someone.

I completely disagree with the negative reviews submitted about Rideau Lake Bengals. My experience was positive and I was thankful for all of the support and information that Dorinda gave us throughout the years with raising our beauty, Abbey. We had no previous experience with Bengals when we purchased Abbey. Therefore we had lots of questions and at times I'm sure we were a little annoying. We were each time responded to quickly and without prejudice .When I came to meet Abbey I was welcomed into Dorindas home, which was very clean and safe for kittens .My overall experience was a good one.

I purchased a bengal kitten from Rideau Lake Bengals about 3 years ago. I had a very uneasy experience. I can agree with the negative comments indicating that she "is in it for the money". Dorinda was very pushy with my decision to purchase our girl. She was my first cat and I was new to the experience of purchasing a pet over the internet. She would say that she had multiple individuals also interested in her and that I had to decide that day, which I did because I was so in love with her! Once I put down a deposit, Dorinda stated that she would email us photos and videos weekly or as often as we would like, that was not the case. Many times I would have to email her first, almost begging for her to send us updates as I wanted to see the growth and changes in our baby girl. I believe over the course of the 7 weeks we received 2 updates, both I had to beg for and ask for multiple times. When it came down to the day we were going to bring her home, Dorinda and her husband? (boyfriend).. met us at a location that was in the middle of both our locations, we drove by car. We met them in an underground parking lot at a mall, my boyfriend and I definitely got the vibe from the two individuals that they were "sketchy". They did not dress professionally, did not speak or interact in a professional manner, and did not seem to care too much about our plans for the kitten or anything like that. They had multiple kittens in a cage in the back of their car, and they arrived with the music in their car blasting so loud. They gave us our kitten by hand with a baby blanket, that the kittens had clearly soiled on over the course of the car ride. They did not provide new toys, or a sample of her food to help ease her into the transition of food we were going to be feeding her. After we left, I texted Dorinda updates on how our girl was doing, and we response was "who is this?" as if she already deleted my number and did not care about her after we left. She did not care at all about how she was doing until i brought up the issue that when we took our girl to the vet, that she had a heart murmur. She was very defensive that it had nothing to do with her and it must have been my fault. The vet told us her had either been born with the murmur or that she developed it in her early weeks due to being raised in a stressful environment. Dorinda was very upset with those claims and denied all accusations. A year or so later I texted Dorinda again with an update, that our girl was heart murmur free! (thank goodness she is okay). Dorinda once again.. did not have my number and questioned who I was. At this point she still really didn't care about our girl and how she was doing, there as very minimal conversations. This year on her birthday ( our third contact attempt since purchasing our girl 3 years ago ) she did not really care, I sent her photo updates, and her only response was "can i use these photos on our website?". I must say that I was not satisfied what so ever with my experience with Rideau Lake Bengals. It was an unpleasant experience and if giving advice to someone wanting to buy a kitten, I would say look else where. It was a bitter sweet experience for me, because I absolutely LOVE my girl. She is beautiful, healthy, and has a great temperament. For a bengal, she is a lap cat, is very social, and loves life. I would not change a thing about my girl, it is just a shame that she had an unpleasant start at life coming from Rideau Lake Bengals and that they provided us with an unpleasant experience as first time buyers.

I too have purchased a kitten from RL Bengals. I was pleased with all the customer service I received, as I had just had a kitten who suddenly passed away. I got said kitten from Roman Saly, who when my 7 month old kitten that I had for 10 days before she passed away during her spay procedure. I proceeded to contact him as my kitten had died within 10 days and he told me that I could pay the extra balance and get a new kitten. I paid 700$ for my 7 month old kitten and 12 week old kittens were 1250$. I was very upset that he wanted me to pay the extra for a new kitten, as I even paid to get an autopsy done and it proved that she was sick. We had no other animals in the house nor had she come into contact with any other animals before going to the vets to get spayed. Roman Saly also said he would get back to us about other kittens and to this day he hasn't gotten back to us regarding any new litters. Now back to RL Bengals. I bought a Bengal from RL Bengals and she had amazing customer service, she gave me pick of the litter and she sent me updates weekly, she also called my cat by name since he was born. When I got my kitten I took him to the vet 3 days after I got him, his vet appointment was fine. So I brought him home and found that his ribs felt funny, I ended up taking him back to the vet for an examination and possibly for x-rays, when I took him back the vet didn't believe me until he felt it for him self. My kitten was FLAT CHESTED AND THE VET AND THE BREEDER DIDN'T NOTICE. So I contact the breeder and the only thing she told me was that if I needed to euthanize him let her know and she would come. I am very displeased with the service I have received since bringing my kitten home. Also there were two flat chested kittens in the litter and she still continues to breed these two cats together. She also doesn't want me to tell any future buyers about my cats condition, which I find a little weird. The upside to my dealing with RL Bengals is that my cat is amazing, he is very loving, very attached to me, and he is very much a lap cat and the best addition to my family ever.

My husband and I are breeders and decided to purchase a breeder boy from RL Bengals. We contacted Dorinda and she informed us that she didn't have any but there was a kitten available who was sold to a woman in Toronto who's baby was having a severe allergic reaction. She gave me her contact info and said "deal with her cause she needs to find a new home" but then said the boy was to be a pet only. First of all, I was very surprised that she wouldn't have taken the cat back if the woman's BABY was having a severe reaction to the kitten. As a breeder, I found it to be a bit unsettling that she would leave this woman to have to sell the kitten herself for cheaper then she paid instead of offering to take the kitten back. Secondly, we were not looking for a pet, but rather a breeder. When I explained that I wanted the boy for breeding she asked me how much I was looking to spend. I told her the amount and she immediately jumped at the chance to take the kitten back and handle the sale herself. Which was fine by us. Right away she started asking us for a deposit on the boy. I explained that I would want to see the kitten before I put any kind of non refundable deposit down. She invited me to meet the woman in toronto and I could send her the money, which we obviously didn't feel comfortable with. We are buying a breeder kitten, we would obviously want to go to the breeders home and meet the boys parents and see the type of environment he is coming from etc. I examined all of this to her and she said that that was fine. My husband and I made a plan to take the 7 hour trip (one way) to her home to meet the kitten and the breeders. We left early afternoon yesterday and 5.5 hours into our trip, we hit some rough roads and slid into a ditch with our van, which completely wrote it off as it was pretty crumpled. I explained to her what happen and that we were with the police while I was texting her. She did ask if we were ok first (which no one was hurt other then some severe whiplash) but then immediately started pressing us on when we would expect to get to her house... Like are you f'in kidding me... Its all she seemed to care about. Asking if we are close, she can bring the kitten to us at the scene of the accident... Or are we getting a rental... Then she started asking if we even wanted the kitten still. I said yes of course we do but we obviously didn't expect to total our van on the way to pick him up. Between cops and tow trucks and trying to figure out how to get home, all this woman cared about was making the sale as she "missed out on 3 other buyers" apparently. Which is odd since the kitten was in someone else's possession until we said we wanted him as a breeder. On our way home with the tow truck and our totaled vehicle she sends another message asking me for a deposit again and asking when we are coming to get him. I said we could come the following weekend with a rental and her reply was " yeah ok, as long as we still have him. Need to find him a home now". My husband and I were furious. Disgusting display of lack of human compassion. I am happy this happened before we bought him as I feel everything happens for a reason and this breeder is clearly all about the money and doesn't give a crap about anything of anyone else.

On a side note, as an editor, I can confirm that the "responses" to the above complaints were written by the same person in a very personal a defensive manner. I can almost guarantee that the breeder made all the responses herself to counter the complaints against their cattery. If you read them all one after the other, it is pretty clear to see that they all say pretty much the same thing and use the same language and tone and also the same slang terms indicating that they were written by the same person. Either way, I would never recommend this breeder to anyone. I didn't even get to meet the woman and her true colors shown bright right through her fake niceties.

I purchased a 12-ish week old kitten from Rideau Lake Bengals, and I've been very happy. His name is Bandit and he's as crazy as they come. I believe from the day he was born, he was well looked after and socialized. Unlike some Bengals, he is what I would call a "Lap Cat." He loves to cuddle and gets along perfectly with strange cats and dogs. Shortly after having my kitten, I noticed he showed signs of discomfort, was not eating and lacked energy. I wasted no time in taking him to the vet and it was quickly confirmed he had an issue with his stomach. Long story short, it was the diet I had him on, and as soon as I adjusted that, he has been perfectly fine every since. I however, felt horrible with guilt for causing my little guy any discomfort. Finally, my neighbor followed in purchasing a kitten from Rideau Lake Bengals, she is absolutely happy with her purchase. Our cats are healthy, happy and have several play-dates each week. Should any health issues arise down the road, we're both confident that this isn't due to any negligence on the breeders part.

I have purchased a kitten from Rideau Lake Bengals and had no problems with either the cat or the breeder. Terms of payment were all discussed with me as well as being in the contract. Video's and pictures were sent frequently and always upon request. Cat was delivered with no complications and was also in perfect health when taken to the vet within 72hrs. The vet in fact commented on what a really beautiful and perfect shape the kitten was in. We have since had him neutered where again the vet commented on how healthy and well bred he is and have had no issues with him. He is a beautiful cat, we feed him a very good quality high protein food as recommended, and as such he seems to be doing very well. The breeder continues to answer all inquiries quickly. I am not really sure what anyone else can possibly expect or wish for in a cat or in a breeder?

Hi everyone, last winter my bengal Shiva died of kidney disease (cat was bought 5 years ago from anther breeder near the U.S.) When Shiva died suddenly it was very very tough for me as he was so my little buddy. Since then I have purchased another beautiful bengal boy, named him Shiva jr (to honour Shiva original) I bought this bengal from Rideau bengals and almost a year later Shiva jr is big, strong and most importantly healthy. I couldn't be happier with my purchase from Rideau Bengals. If you are thinking about purchasing a Bengal and want a quality cat I would go with Rideau Bengals, they are caring breeders.

My husband and I completely disagree with the above complaints. After the amazing customer service we received Rideau Lake Bengals, we cannot believe anyone would ever have a bad experience. We fully agree with every word bagheeramrm and mtorres wrote and question whether the complaints were sourced from friends/family of other competing breeders.

Rideau Lake Bengal kittens are born from amazing blood lines. We shopped and shopped and shopped for a Bengal and when we saw the kittens Rideau Lake Bengals had, we knew we found the best. There was about 6 weeks from the time we selected our kitten and paid our deposit online and when she arrived to us in Edmonton. At first we were a bit nervous trusting an out of province breeder because we could not visit the cattery and we did not have any experience with the breeder. We really wanted the kitten we chose and therefore decided to take the risk.

The breeder informed us of everything we needed to know about having a Bengal. She explained to us how they are different than the average house cat. We were so appreciative of all of the information she shared with us that we didn't know. She sent us a contract immediately which clearly outlined the terms and conditions. Then she started sending us photos and videos every week (sometimes more often!). Our kids LOVED getting the pictures and videos so that they could see her as she went through the early stages of being a kitten. We were able to choose a name for our Bengal and the breeder started using it right away. By the time Zoe came to us, she knew her name! She came in a kennel with a fuzzy blanket and some toys. The process was effortless! We have nothing but great things to say about this breeder!

We got Zoe in March 2014. After Zoe came home to us, the breeder called and texted several times inquiring how she is doing and if we had any questions/concerns. Over the past 7 months we have called the breeder a couple of times to ask get advise and she either answered our calls immediately or returned them within a day. She spent a lot of time on the phone with us and we never felt rushed. You can tell that this breeder has made her breeding business her life and that its in her heart to do it. Sure there must be profit in it but you can tell that is not the only reason she is doing it... She clearly loves her Bengals!

About two months ago we decided to get another Bengal so Zoe had another cat to interact with. We didn't even consider looking at other breeders. We called Rideau Lake Bengals and found out in they had two litters due within a few weeks. The breeder kept in touch with us throughout and we got pictures the day the first litter was born. Every second day or so we got new pictures until the second litter was born at which time we got a ton of pictures of that litter. We picked the kitten we wanted, within a few days told the Breeder his name and she has been calling him Rex and sending us pictures and videos ever since. We can't wait until he arrives in a month!

If you are reading these posts and are trying to decide whether or not to purchase a Bengal from this breeder... PLEASE give the breeder a call and ask her for contact information for the people from Edmonton that bought Zoe and Rex from her. We would definitely spend the time talking to you in person about how wonderful this breeder is. We appreciate all that she has done for our family in finding the perfect pets and want as many people out there to experience that as well. Shying away from getting a Bengal from this breeder because of the complaints would impact the breeder... but more importantly it will impact you the most! Check out the quality of their Bengals and do your homework. Ask for references and call them. You will be able to hear in their voices what their experiences were.

I also disagree with the above complaints.I purchased an adult cat from the breeder approximately one year ago.At that time I had not much knowledge of the Bengal breed, and had many questions most of which I could have googled but chose to take the more personal approach and ask the breeder. Not only did she answer my questions, but she went out of her way to check in with me to make sure things were going well.Over the last year she has sent me pictures of our cat before her time with us and has kept me informed about anything she thinks could benefit the life of our precious pet. This breeder is knowledgable, responsible and truthful. The next bengal I own and there will be more, you better believe Rideau Lakes Bengals is where I will go!

I completely disagree with this complain, I bought not only one but two kittens from them in different periods of time and I satisfied with my experience with them. Not only the breeder kept me posted with pictures, videos and messages from the kittens but after I have received each of them she was always available for any question that I had. I knew just reading the contract that the money was not refundable, so after making my decision I knew what I was doing and that I didn't have a way back, so I seriously though about getting the cat before to sign any contract or sending the deposit to hold any of my cats.

The breeder was super helpful helping me to adapt to my first cat (She was my first cat ever!), I took her to the vet as soon as I got any of them and all the test were perfect! and after receiving my second cat that my first cat became sick (we finally concluded it was just stress), the breeder ever called my vet and we tried different treatments until she got better in just a few days following a different diet and helping her to accept her little sister.

I love my cats beyond words! and I am really grateful that the breeder has always been there for me each time that I need it, even if it is only to say thank you for the pictures that I send her once in a while!

I disagree with all the above complaints. I have purchased a Bengal from Rideau Lake Bengals and am beyond satisfied with my experience.
To the first one: Read the contract. Read the contract. Read the contract. The contract clearly stipulates all conditions for the purchase of the cat. If you read the contract the price is LOCKED IN once you place a deposit. I highly doubt you lost contact. I was in touch with the breeder not only daily but received frequent updates via text message when any vet appointment happened. I also frequently received video's of the cat playing with his litter mates. Raised the price without notice? How did you know the price was raised?
Second Complaint: You did not do your research. Clearly you did not follow an appropriate diet for the cat that was recommended by the breeder. You do not buy a BMW and put in Toyota oil which is what i think you were expecting with this cat.
Complaint 3: Cheaper breeders? I don't know what kind of cat your purchasing but if you want to purchase cats that are abused and over bred in kitten mills then support a cheaper breeder. Cats of this calibre cost over $2000.00, known to go upwards of $50, 000.00 Again, you are not going to purchase a BMW at the same price as a Toyota. These are high maintenance cats that go to cat owners who are acquainted with breeds.

I purchased a cat from Rideau lake bengals over a year ago and am beyond satisfied with my purchase. The breeder spends time with the cats hands on and you can tell. Bengals are not lap cats and are not cuddly. If you do not understand this do not get a bengal. They are part wild cat and require a high protein diet. Which the breeder fully explained to me, she fully explained to go on Youtube and look at videos. After i READ the contract and fully understood that THERE IS NO REFUND ON THE DEPOSIT IF YOU CHOOSE TO NOT GET THE CAT i placed a deposit for my bengal where the price was locked. on the contract, initialed by the breeder.
I took my cat to the vet within 2 days of getting it with all his current vet records and vet contact information that the breeder gave to me at the time of purchase. I also fully understood according to the contract I would not get TICA papers until he was neutered, as per the contract.
My bengal scored perfect with the vet, blood, urine, and stool samples. Nothing was wrong with him. Subsequent vet tests have all been perfect marks.
Whenever i had a question or concern with my cat or any of his behavior the breeder was in contact with me within 45 minutes. I was never hesitant to call her because she is there for support and knows the cats. She is a professional, if you go through the contract you know she is serious and takes pride in her dedicated work. My cat has been a wonderful companion. He is fully toilet trained, playful.

These complaints have no merit and are clearly made by boneheads who do not have the skill to read a contract.
Please find attached photos of my cat from rideau lake bengals.

Would not suggest giving your hard earned money to this breeder. I had a bad experience. There are other more honest and much cheaper breeders you can go through. I highly recommend Roman Saly! Beautiful cats, great pricing, and he's super honest. Also Kanpur Bengals and Dazzledots are favorable breeders. This breeder comes across as very unprofessional.

This is strange. Becuase I noticed they were weird too. Especially when we went to pick up our kitten. They looked shady. And a month later when I sent them videos there was no response to the emails or anything. Now a year later our cat just had an abdoninal surgery for intussusception and on top of that ($6000 later) I have to take him to another vet for a neurological exam. Hes staggering to one side and cant keep his balance. Im freaking out. I love this cat so much and hes the most beautiful bengal Ive seen, I just hope I can cure this!
