Fake goods worth lakhs seized
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, September 25
The cyber cell of the UT police today recovered a catch of fake goods of reputed brands worth several lakhs, which were sold to customers online.

The police conducted a raid at a godown in Industrial Area, Phase I. Fake products of international brands including watches, garments, wallets and shoes were seized from the godown.

AS Cheema, DIG, UT, who monitored the raid at the godwon, said that the accused who were still at large were duping innocent buyers by selling fake products. “We had received over eight complaints in which customers bought branded watches ranging between Rs 50, 000 to Rs 1.5 lakh which turned out to be duplicate”, the DIG stated.

He further stated that the accused used to operate on different websites to dupe the customers. “The customers were shownoriginal products on the website, however, the duplicate products were delivered to them”, DIG added.

The olice had recently received a complaint from Maninder Grover, a resident of Sector 38, who had alleged that he bought a Rolex watch through the website worth Rs 59, 000, which he later discovered was fake.

Police officials said that Grover was lured as discounts were offered on the website and so he purchased the watch. However, later on when he showed the watch to authorised dealers they claimed it to be a Chinese make replica of the original watch.

The police sources said that more raids were expected to be made in the coming days. Probably this was the biggest ever catch of fake goods caught by the Chandigarh Police.

They further said that the accused identified as Gaurav Bhatia, a resident of Sector 47, and Dixit, a resident of Sector 40, were still at large. The accused had taken the godown on rent.

Two held for selling fakes of branded watches online
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, September 24
The police today arrested two persons for selling duplicate products of renowned brands.

The police received a secret information that handlers of www.richkart.com are cheating innocent customers by selling duplicate watches of branded companies such as Rolex, Rado and Tissot, and have a godown in Ram Darbar, Chandigarh.

The accused used to upload the original photo of branded watches on the website to attract customers but delivered duplicate products to the buyers, the police said.

A team of crime branch, headed by SI Ashok Kumar, laid a trap near the railway bridge in Ram Darbar and apprehended Ashish Sobti, alias Ashu, of Suraj Enclave, Chhaju Majra village, Mohali district, and Karan Vir Singh, of Jagtar Nagar, Patiala, with two bags carrying duplicate branded watches. On interrogation, the duo said they were going to Plot No. 91, Ram Darbar, Phase II, Chandigarh, to get the products packed. The police recovered a total of 14 duplicate Rolex watches, three fake Omega watches, two duplicate Rado watches and a fake Tissot watch from their possession.

Both the accused were produced in the court today. The court sent Karanvir to judicial custody for 14 days while Ashish has been sent to police remand for one day.
