Reservation Counter misrepresentation, excess charges, poor customer service

On January 17, 2016 I went online to look up the Hampton Inn in Nashville, TN (1919 West End Ave., near Vanderbilt University). When I entered the information in the search engine the first choice I received seemed to be the website for the hotel. What I did not realize at the time is that this was actually the website of a third party booking agency (Reservation Counter) that uses the logo of the hotel to mislead potential clients.

I called the phone number listed on the website to inquire about reserving a room. The representative on the phone never stated that he was working for an outside company. I believe he started the conversation with "Reservation Counter" or "Reservation Desk" which led me to believe that I was speaking to an employee of the hotel at their reservation desk (especially since I thought I was calling the hotel based on the number from the website).

Maybe I should have seen the signs during the phone conversation, the representative spoke rapidly and asked for my credit card information after quoting me a rate for a one night stay. I thought this was being done to reserve the room, but my card was immediately charged. The nightly fee for the hotel was $139, but I was quoted a price of $170.00. When I asked about his I was told that these were fees and service charges. I was also told that this was to be expected on a holiday weekend (Dr. King Holiday weekend).

As it turns out these are fees that they collect for their "services" which is in addition to what you would have paid the hotel for a direct booking. So they aren't doing you any favors they are charging you for something you could've done for less on your own. However, I didn't even realize I was dealing with an outside party at the time of the call, I thought I was dealing with the hotel.

I experienced problems while traveling and knew that I would not be able to make it to the hotel. When I called the hotel I was told that I did not make a reservation with them. They stated that I made a reservation with Expedia (it took them a while to figure this out). I then called Expedia and I was told that I did not make a reservation with them, but with a third party that they are affiliated with (it also took them a while to figure this out). At this point I was truly confused because I never knew I was dealing with an outside party. This third party booking agency is Reservation Counter, also known as Reservation Desk.

When I called Reservation Counter they informed me that they have a no cancellation/no refund policy and although I would not be able to make it to the hotel I could not be reimbursed. When I checked my email I saw that this policy was stated in a confirmation email which also appears as if it is from hotel.

I was scammed. Perhaps I should have seen the signs. I do feel that they mislead people and take advantage of consumers.

When I researched this company I discovered that my story is not unique. Many people have had the same if not worse experiences.

They were "hijacked" when doing an online search

They thought they were dealing directly with the hotel

Their credit card was immediately charged

The fee exceeded the amount that would have been charged by booking directly with the hotel

They do not allow refunds, cancellations or changes

What makes this situation worse is the fact they charge consumers more than the actual hotel charges to book a room. I am also disappointed with the hotel and Expedia for participating in this scam. They are aware of this company's fraudulent practices, yet they don't seem to be concerned. I guess everyone is happy as long as they're making money.

Hopefully others will heed the warning and avoid these scammers.

Reservation Counter room booking

Thought I was talking to the hotel directly. Even though it was clear I thought it was the hotel with the references I made they allowed me to believe other wise. Even though they have a no cancellation policy the don't tell you that you can't change it. Customer service is a joke. Can never get a manager. My friend has the same problem and could not change his room even when saying he would pay more to do so. He eventual git to a complaint department, which I was never offered.

My friend got stranded in Galveston. I googled Motel 6 Galveston, Texas. Call the number on what appeared to be the Motel 6 online reservation center and ask the person if I was speaking with the desk. He said no and that I had reached the after hours Motel 6 calling center and that he could help me with anything. He went on to explain how during the high volume check-in times, that all calls were forwarded to them even for extra towels request. I need to prepay the room charge and needed to know if they needed me or my credit card to be present. His response was no we do this all the time. Well the Motel 6 was too far from their cars location so I let him know that and I would continue to keep looking on the internet. He ask what part of Galveston they were near. I responded Stewart Beach & Broadway. He check for one of what he described other hotels managed by the Hotel 6 company. He came up with Beachcomber Inn just 2 blocks away he exclaimed! However they area about $6 bucks more, but the have a FREE DELUXE Continental Breakfast and a coupon for 20% off entrees at the The Healthy Chinese Restaurant.Well I book it. Stupid Me! Waited for the confirmation email it was good & had the Beachcombers name, address & phone. I gave them about 10 min. the called their desk. They had my prepaid reservation, then the guy explained, but not the $50 theft & damage deposit required this small independent owner required that is clearly marked on their Expedia site that it had to be paid at time of check-in in cash or placed at that time on a credit card. GUESS WHAT! The people I was told was Motel 6 WAS NOT & they had booked the room thru Expedia.com for a fee paid extra to them. I had explained my friends car had been robbed(wallet, purse & cash), damaged(attempted to steal the car), stuck in a parking garage that had closed near the seawall & not drive-able. This ### DID NOT CARE. 1st off the Inn was over 5 miles away. 6th st. all the way to 6 st. Thank God the police there gave them a ride and a food voucher for a small meal each at Mc Donalds. The Beachcomber is not part of Motel 6, has a normal free breakfast fruit, coffee, tea, juice & pre-packaged muffins or donuts. The would have given them 20% off the room with proof of the police report, but because it was through Expedia & prepaid it was nor refundable. No coupon for the Chinese Restaurant & I had to drive all the way to Galveston to take them my cred card or cash. It was late I was tired, the owner was there by then & offered me the %20 % off another single king room, so we all 3 didn't have to cram into 1 bed. Thank You Beachcomber Inn(Great place for the price). This company(Reservation Counter)cost me a tank of gas in my van, an extra hotel room, lunch out on my way home today and if their so called helpful employees will commit fraud & misrepresentation, I'm certainly calling my bank in the morning to get new debit/credit cards. Now I have major frustration & valuable time from my work to swap over my auto pay on bills to the new credit/debit card and if my $$$$ does turn up missing the inconvenience of having to wait 7-10 day for my bank to kick in the insurance to replace it & pray they don't steal more than $5000 or the overage will not be covered. Reservation Counter room reservation for caesars atlantic city

My husband wanted to surprise his daughter and I for x-mas with a girls weekend out, he order show tickets, spa... and a 2 night stay @ Caesars which he said he was at their site; well the reservation were made and we all surprised and grateful for the gift, I wanted to add an extra night just in case the weather was inclement it would give extra time to arrive, when I called there were no reservations, in our name even though I had an email confirmation from [protected]@reservationcounter.com, when I called the # I was transferred all over the world from Guatemala to the Philippines and given a story to forward the email to [protected]@reservationcounter.com and the would see what happen, long story short I was glad I wanted to book the extra day as Caesar was booked solid for the w/e and I couldn't imagine traveling all that way only to find out there was no room, It turn out well I was able to contact Julia (USA Las Vegas)who works for Caesar and she was able to book a a room at a nearby casino. She was very apologetic for the inconvenience and overall I hope Caesar's know they have a GREAT Employee working for them which will keep me loyal to them. Beware when booking thru Reservation Counter a third party waste of time.

Reservation Counter cancellation, charges

My wife called the number [protected] to make reservation at The Wildwood Hotel. This was a number that was listed under the heading of Wildwood Hotel on the internet but was the website reservationcounter.com. She made the reservation confirmation number R453191583. Approximately 2 weeks later my sister(mother of the groom-this was a block of rooms for a wedding in Wildwood Missouri) text us a number and told us the room was $93 night. Reservationcounter.com had charged us $126.50 plus $39.02 in fees. So I decided since my sister had now told us of the block rate and had given us a number of [protected] I would call the hotel and changed our fees. When I called the hotel and gave them the reservation number they told me they had no reservation for me under that number. So I called this reservationcounter.com, told them to cancel my room and send me an email cancelation. They did not send anything until I called again. Then they sent me a reservation confirmation and showed they had charged my credit card $165.52. So I called the Wilwood back to complain that they were letting these types of services represent them. The mgr ran it up the ladder and come to find out this reservationcounter.com is not authorized to book anything for the Wildwood Hotel. Someone needs to get a warrant and break this scam/sham oeration of theirs up. Pissed off in South Dakota.

Reservation Counter hotel reservation "service"

November 16th I made a hotel reservation and accidentally made it for the same night. I called within 10 minutes to ask them to change the date and upon doing so they let me know they cannot change dates but would have to cancel and charge me the whole amount. This is a SCAM! It wasn't even the right hotel! I called the hotel and they had let me know that this was an issue with them and it has become a problem where customers think they are getting their reservation though the hotel and they are not. The "manager" at the phone line said that he doesnt have the authority to cancel but will "try" to have it waived but would take 48 hours. THIS WILL BE 2 DAYS AFTER I EVEN NEEDED THE HOTEL! What happened to customer service? This is a joke. Use a more reliable company that only takes your credit card for holding the room, not actually charging you immediately.

Reservation Counter scammed reservation

I am not sure how they do it, but they swept in on my inquiry to ChoiceHotels.com. I was attempting to cash in on my third night free with ChoiceHotels and instead I was channeled to Reservation Counter without my knowledge. Not only have I lost out on my third night because it will now expire, I was charged $188.74 for a room that the hotel charges $145.01. In addition, on the other side, they charge the hotel a commission to make the reservation. Reservation Counter is affiliated with Expedia. Repeated phone calls to both Reservation Counter and Expedia met with no resolution. All I was requesting was the difference between the room rates to be refunded to me. Many, many complaints with the Utah BBB who, amazingly, still gives them an A+ rating. Marla

I wish I could help. Honestly, the Utah BBB (where they claim their US headquarters) did not help much, but, it may be worth a try. Perhaps with more continual complaints, they'll actually do something.

A very similar experience to others. Had no idea that reservation counter had hijacked my hotel inquiry and that i was not longer dealing directly with Marriott. Now I have a charge on my credit card and no room to use. After several dead end attempts to have a reasonable conversation with them, I have to dispute the charge with Visa.

Reservation Counter hotel booking

Yes, I got taken too. I was trying to book directly on the Days Inn site & somehow they snuck in a I was finalizing my room. It was all OK at the hotel, but it turns out I paid about $15 too much, which on that room was 20%! Now I'm worried about the security of my credit card, as if they do this, what else? The hotel said they were paid by Expedia which goes along with what someone else said. Be careful, I sure will next time.

I avoid to use the third party to make reservation for a hotel because I think whenever it goes to dispute, it is better off to deal with the hotel directly. I found this Holiday Inn Express at Time Square and I went to its site and order right from the original page. I found out that for the same bed room which suppose to cost $126.81 after tax by hotel.com, I was charged $233.37 on the same day. I understand there are a few dollars difference but not over $100 much. I asked the manager of the Holiday Inn Express to fix it and they said that they cannot find my confirmation number. Later we then discovered I thought I reserved from the hotel itself directly is a misled. I found out I am a victim among many others when order online thinking they are making reservation directly from the hotel itself.
I Saw someone complained to complaintsboard.com just for $15…

I called this Reservation Counter hoping they could give me a break. But they just said that is whatever I agree. Well, I don’t actually agree to order through a third party in the first place. It is Reservation Counter blended in so many people fell into the traps thinking they are the hotel itself. They have no sincerity to resolve the problem but rob your money. I am going to file a charge back through Citibank for my one hundred dollars because of the misled.

Reservation Counter unethical behavior and non refund

I was looking to book a room for an emergency getaway with my husband and two babies. I wanted a room with a kitchenette so I could cook for my babies, instead of eating out and repeated it several times to the man on the phone. He stated it was no problem and that he had it taken care of. He even repeated it back to me. I then got my email and called the hotel to confirm. I was told there was no kitchenette and that my reservation had not even asked for one. I immediately called back to refund (because the lady offered at the hotel, and they told me they would submit it to investigations and I would hear back in 48-72 hours for a decision. Meanwhile I was put on hold for 25 minutes after only for a woman to get on and then tell me no refund but they may do a compensation in 2-10 days/ When I asked what that was she had no clue. I cried and we stayed at the hotel and shelled out over 200$ on top of room to eat...for 1 night. THIS COMPANY IS A JOKE.

Reservation Counter shady/misleading business practices

Warning Warning Warning ... to all my friends and associates. I recently called a hotel to make a reservation for a business trip. When I called the number, they said thanks for calling the reservation counter. As it turns out, I was speaking with a company called Reservation Counter and they never fully disclosed that I wasn't speaking to the hotel directly. (I pulled the number off the hotels web page when I did a search; probably click bait) I should have been given a room rate for a specific organization. When I asked about that organizations rate, I was told I was being quoted the best rate. WELLLLL, as it turns out, I wasn't given the organization's rate because ONLY the hotel can give that rate. (Remember, I'm thinking I speaking to the hotel) You'd think the rep I was speaking to, when I questioned the rate, would have informed me to contact the hotel directly... Reservation Counter actually charged me $40 more per night than what I should have received thru the organization rate. Don't be fooled by Reservation Counter's claim of "Lowest Price Guaranteed"! I certainly didn't get it! They are an off shore service desk with an anchor office in Utah. When I asked to speak to the person's supervisor after I discovered the truth, they refused to give me that person’s name and number or email! Nor would they give me the address or phone number for the Utah office. (btw, the Utah’s office isn’t listed on their website anywhere) They simply wanted to pass the buck and pass me off to a support desk. TERRIBLE customer service with misleading/shady business practices! My advice to all is verify that you're speaking to the hotel's reservation desk and NOT Reservation Counter. If it is Reservation Counter, hang up and find the direct line to the hotel!

Reservation Counter scam travel agency company

My elderly family member attempted to book a room direct with a major hotel chain. Somehow, they wound up on a shady website managed by Reservation Counter USA, who is supposedly an Expedia Affiliate. It took several hours, just to trace back where these charges were coming from.

We were then overcharged for two rooms, for a one night stay. Upon calling the company they said "non refundable" which we then had to spend several more hours dealing with the hotel, and Reservations Counter, on a conference call.

Reservation Counter then promised us, we would be refunded our money. However, they have not done that. The basically lied to us on 3 different occasions, assuring us we would be refunded. So we had to file a dispute with our bank.

Avoid this company at all costs. Do not book any room, flight, etc, through a company of this type. Always goto a direct, trusted, reputable site.

Reservation Counter misrepresentation and fraud

Reservation Counter is claiming to be Harbor Shores on Lake Geneva indicating to guests that they are at the property, when if fact they are not. They are using fake phone numbers and giving out confirmations to Harbor Shores on Lake Geneva, however actually confirming reservations at Comfort Suites in Lake Geneva. Guests do not know this until they are charged a no show reservation at comfort suites and showing up to Harbor Shores on Lake Geneva where no rooms are available. Reservation Counter is taking credit card numbers from guests again, indicating they are at the property and the concern is what they are doing with this confidential information. There is not a telephone number to reach an owner or management of this fake company.

Reservation Counter misrepresentation

This is a third-party hotel booking site with call center taking your credit card info in Guatemala Central America. Unlike other booking sites (Hotels.com, Travelocity, etc) they create a web page for a hotel that is a really good spoof of the hotel's actual web site. Very difficult to see that you are not on the hotel's web page unless you study the full string of the URL address. The phone number to call must be set up unique to each hotel because unlike other booking sites, they already know what hotel you want, they don't have to ask. Even verifies the hotel name and address without being asked so they really make you think you are talking to a hotel in New Jersey. What tipped me off was that I was going for a special group rate and the "reservation clerk" put me on hold to "check with the front desk". Came back saying both that there was no record of the group and that all rooms at that group rate had been booked. Never mentioned that he could not give the group rate becaue he had nothing to do with the hotel. FRAUD! Got caught when I checked with the promoter and found out that my reservation was made through a third party. Cancelled right away; they don't make it easy to do that, took two calls. Sure, maybe the booking would have worked out OK if it had not been for the group rate. Their rate was the same as the hotel's regular rate so no benefit giving your credit card number to a Latin American internet scam operation.

Reservation Counter fraud in reservation

Googled to get the hotel phone number but reservationcoutner link was first and their website does not say it is a third party. I reserved a room and told it was a refundable reservation. The confirmation email said NON-refundable so I called back. Reservationcounter (RC) says the hotel has to cancel or change the reservation as RC can do nothing an this is hotel (Hilton) policy. I called the Hilton and told Hilton policy is not to touch 3rd party reservations which makes RCs statement a lie. Called RC this mornng and told my complaint was "elevated" and expect an email in 24/48 hours. RC STILL saying the hotel is the problem and they called the hotel multiple times to have the hotel correct it. Bottom line is RC made the mistake (if it was one) and will not change their mistake. Plus they blame the hotel for not being able to make the correction. The website does not say this is a third party company and they will not change the reservation to be refundable. On top of that they blame the hotel for bering unable to change the reservation. I'll give it until end of the day and will call my lawyer if not corrected.

Reservation Counter fraudulent charge

My wife booked a valentine's day retreat at a Hilton Hotel through this company. We paid $180 and received a confirming email from this company. After a two hour drive, we found that there was no reservation, the hotel was booked solid, and there was no record of us at all.

The company telephone system had no people answering it all weekend, and just went into endless hold over and over. I couldn't even leave a message. I have had to cancel my credit card to avoid any attempt to charge more on the card, and have contested the charge.

I finally reached the company this morning, and they said they would "look into it". That is unacceptable. They took the money, promised to book a room, sent an email saying they had done so, and then didn't answer the phone when I realized I had been had.

Under no circumstances use this company. I would give them zero stars if this form would let me.

Reservation Counter poses as actual hotel brand

ReservationCounter.com is a SCAM. Be very, very careful when you think you're contacting the actual brand you want to stay with - you may instead get this company which is an affiliate of Expedia. I'm pretty internet-savvy and they still kind of slipped in there on me. They will overcharge online rate that hotel advertises and charge your credit card IMMEDIATELY. I've never had a hotel charge me until arrival. When I tried to cancel and get a refund online, it showed the reservation was cancelled but provided NO info regarding refund of money. What a time-consuming, frustrating hassle this was! I first called Wingate by Wyndham and was told to call Expedia who told me to call yet another number which turned out to be AARP (I am 38). Finally, the fourth call lead to a promise of refund and I was also assigned a "case number." (?) All this for a hotel reservation. Avoid reservationcounter.com

I just got off the phone after getting nowhere with a “Supervisor” at Reservation Counter. I too thought I was dealing with a hotel directly.
My girlfriend stayed at the same hotel and paid $80 less for her 2 night stay. As with others, my credit card was IMMEDIATLEY charged when I booked. Lesson learned. I advise staying away from this site. Also ask the important question if you are dealing with the hotel itself. Shame on Priceline for being affiliated with them.

I don't think they are an affiliate of Expedia. I booked through them, thinking I was dealing directly with the hotel, and the charge showed up on my credit card as Priceline, which I had not contacted. We canceled our reservations and have been promised a refund. I have an e-mailed confirmation; will wait and see if my card is credited. And yes, they charged my card at the time of reservation, something I'd never heard of. Total scam. Avoid at all costs.

Reservation Counter fake hotel reservation

My complaint barely varies from the others who have complained about this company. I too thought I was making a reservation directly with the hotel chain, Comfort Suites for a hotel in Rolla, Mo. Supposedly they made the reservation. We did not receive the text for our confirmation-First or rather the second red flag. Of course, the reservation center was located in India. I do not have a case against the workers but rather the fat cat American(s) who own the company and our taking advantage both of the consumer and their workers. Owners should be put out of business. At any rate, we got to the hotel an hour later and there was no reservation. The desk agent check at the Comfort Suites in a 50 miles radius but to no avail. Fortunately, he had one room left (it was the Friday of Memorial day weekend ). We attempted to cancel the reservation but without the confirmation number which they did not text us we were unable to do so. I called Reservationcounter.com and was given the run around. They told me there were on the phone with the Comfort Suites in Rolla attempting to sort out the situation. While I was on hold, I called Comfort Suites Rolla. They indicated that no one had contacted them. The reservationcounter rep returned to the phone call and told me that the Comfort Suites Manager refused to refund the money. I told her that i was currently on the phone with Comfort Suites and they had not be contacted. I was livid. All the information they gave me was absolutely false. Evidently this company is in business to make phoney reservations and collect the money from people who are supposedly not cancelling their reservation. In my story, much credit is due the Comfort Suites Manager who further investigated and found out that my reservation was at the Quality Inn, unbeknown to me since I never asked for a room at the Quality Inn. She was not familiar with reservationcounter.com. I contacted American Express to dispute the charge. They indicated that it will not be paid since I did not request a reservation at the Quality Inn and did not receive the service for which I paid. Again, this company needs to be put out of business! I will be issuing a formal complaint with the BBB.

Tried to call a listed Hotel (Holiday Inn-French Quarter Perrysville Ohio) and was told they were booked but would call and see if something else was available. Found me a room and billed my card, gave me an itinerary # that they emailed to me. Took my family out of town only to find the Hotel they booked for me...had no vacancy and didn't have any need for a itinerary #! There were no other rooms available around this location and while talking on the phone to the Supervisor in charge of Customer Support(David-100522 in Guatemala!) I was told " let me see what I can do about a refund"... was put on hold for 35+ minutes then hung up on! So there I was with my family 5 hours away from my home, Money out of my account for a room and no other rooms available for closer than another hour away...and no longer convenient to out destination!
3 days later I finally get a hold of (David) to find that they did reimburse my account @ 2:15am that morning and there was nothing else they would do. He couldnt get me to a supervisor, couldnt tell me who the company CEO was and then gave me a Mngr name and number (John Machen [protected])that no one ever answers! I want nothing for free, just want to know how to never use them again, make sure my company (GEICO) never books through them, my family, friends and soccer Club never has to use them again. They scam with fake Reservations. take Credit Card #'s, Personal info and emails and does what with them? I now am canceling my cards and changing every password I have! Please ask when booking anything if this is the company doing the booking...and if so yell SCAM and hang up! RESERVATIONCOUNTER.COM IS A SCAM!

Reservation Counter scam

I noticed that the price of a hotel in Paris that I was trying to book was considerably cheaper on the Reservation Counter website than anywhere else. I dont know what made me suspicious as the website is quite nicely designed, possibly the difference in price and the US telephone number given on the webpage. It was a good thing I checked or I would have had to deal with the resulting problems in French, not a language I speak very well.

I googled hotels in the Nashville area and chose a Courtyard Marriot off google maps located on West End. When I clicked on the reservation link under the hotel information (which as I look at it now, has tiny writing saying it is an "ad") I was taken to a website that looks very similar to Marriots website and allows you to make reservations for hotels. When I made my reservation, I recieved and email confirmation saying I was booked at a Courtyard Marriot in Nashville, but the address was on the other side of town. I called the number for cancellations and they said they would be happy to help me. (The customer service representative spoke very broken English, leaving me to believe that this is a foriegn company). He said he would be happy to help me change my hotel to the side of town that I wanted. He informed me that he was unable to book me at the Courtyard Marriot on West End, but he had another Hotel (Aloft Nashville) that was 2 blocks away. I said that would be fine. At the end of the call, he informed me that I needed to call another phone number to complete my cancellation request. When I called the number, a woman (who also spoke even more broken English) said that I was not able to cancel my reservation because it was inside the window for non-cancellation, even though I had made it 10 minutes ago! I asked to speak to her supervisor and she hung up on me. I called back, spoke to another woman, same result. To add to it, when I was assisted by the gentleman a few minutes earlier who "changed" my reservation, he had indeed NOT changed my reservation, but only ADDED another one. This reservation was also NOT refundable.I havent even mentioned that the rates they book you at are about $20-30 higher than the actual rate of the hotel. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT use this company! They are scamming leeching foriegners capitalizing on tactical placement of links that imitate REAL hotel booking links. Shame on Google for allowing this company to purchase ad space on their site.

Reservation Counter fraud

In a rush to make a hotel reservation, I called the number listed. Thought I was speaking to an employee of Best Western.
Made the reservation, and they said a confirmation would be sent. Waited for an hour...nothing. Called the number again and asked where was my confirmation. They said they had no record of my reservation. I looked up Reservation Counter online and discovered it was a fraudluent company. I called another number for Reservation Counter, and they acted like I made a mistake. I told them to cancel any reservation they had made for me, but they couldn't find anything. I then called my credit card company, they said a $1 "test" had been placed on the account, but nothing else. They then put a watch on my account. I called Best Western directly and made a reservation for almost $100 less than Reservation Counter's quote!

The next day I called the hotel. They now had two reservations in my name. One for $141, which I made, another for $207 which they said "Expedia" made and was paid in full. The hotel said they couldn't cancel this second reservation. I called Expedia. They had no record of the reservation. They suggested I call my credit card again. I called the credit card company, and they said reservation was made by Travelocity. They put a dispute on the charge and said I wouldnt be responsible for this $207 charge. They said to call Travelocity directly and try to cancel the reservation. I called Travelocity and they found the reservation and cancelled it. They said they would refund my money within 20 days. (20 days...WTF?) They said unfortunately this happens a lot with Reservation Counter. They are misleading and charge huge fees for things you can do by yourself for free.

I waited about 30 minutes and then called Best Western again. They said the reservation had been cancelled. So now I am just waiting 20 days to see if I get my money back.

DO NOT EVER USE RESERVATION COUNTER!

I've had a similar experience to those who have already posted on this site.Spoof web page, not informed I was dealing with a third party instead of the actual hotel, not being informed they were charging my credit card in advance, phone connection characteristics indicative of an overseas call center, NOT an in-country one.

After my trip, I needed a detailed receipt for my official travel voucher in order to get reimbursed and they refused to provide one. So-called supervisor was rude during that particular exchange. They even refused to respond to the BBB complaint I filed. I've elevated it to the WA State Attorney General for further action.

I would advise anyone who has been scammed by these people to do the same. The more evidence the AG gets, the stronger the case to send these losers to where they belong.

Reservation Counter hotel reservation misrepresentation and scam

I
was a victim of a hotel reservation scam in late January when I
thought I was making a regular reservation at a Holiday Inn in
Florida. I then had another reason to check my credit card
balance and found a charge from a company called "reservationcounter"
where they had made an advance non-refundable reservation at the
hotel.
I now know how I got scammed. I went to TripAdvisor to
choose a hotel in Crystal River, Florida. I chose a Holiday
Inn, so I hit the show prices button and a Holiday Inn Logo came up
which was the lowest price. When I hit the Holiday Inn logo I
was certain I was in the official Holiday Inn site as it is pretty
much an exact replica. I had asked for a simple
reservation which would be payable after our stay at the hotel.
Such reservations could be cancelled which was important as we
have a health issue. This "reservationcounter"
set me up at a non refundable rate, charged me the fully flexible
rate, and then charged higher taxes and fees than would be payable
at the hotel. I am out well over $100.00 and lost
flexibility. If we cannot use the room because of health
reasons, I will be out some $470.00. I have since learned from
Holiday Inn that the reservation was made by Expedia.
This certainly lowers my expectations and trust for TripAdvisor and
Expedia.

Since that time, While making additional reservations, I have
noticed that if you are to decide to stay at a certain brand of
hotel, like Holiday Inn, Marriott, Hampton Inn or probably any other,
and you Google that brand, a website comes up as "Holiday Inn
Reservation Counter" That then leads you into the
"reservationcounter" site rather than Holiday Inn or any
other chain you choose.

Reservation Counter misrepresentation

I looked up Americinn on my ipad. The website directed me to you. I had no idea I wasn't talking to Americinn reservations. My first question was "Do you have a pet friendly room available? I am travelling with my dog." The gentleman I was speaking to, whose primary language was not English, told me that yes, there was a pet friendly room available. I told him that was great and to book the pet friendly room. He quoted me $87.99 plus fees and taxes. I booked the room, arriving 20 minutes later. I asked the desk clerk if there was another door we should come in so I wasn't bringing my dog through the lobby. He told me I was not booked for a pet friendly room and that it was $124.00 for a pet friendly room. I had no other options at that point so I said sure but then his system would not let him change it since it was booked through you. He was kind enough to call the manager and get approval to put us in the pet friendly room for what I had paid through you. He told me you were Expedia which it does not say on the website.
I would strongly suggest having people who speak English answering your phones and have identification on your website saying who you are. Also, tell your agents, if someone asks for a pet friendly room, reserve them a pet friendly room.
I will be much more cautious in the future to make sure I am taking to the hotel itself and not Expedia or whoever you are.
